    You can hook up an active subwoofer via the 3.5mm preout. Also, at 50%, the tone controls are (supposedly) at neutral - so no 'boost' at 12 o'clock.
    The advertised power ratings of these amps is not realistically achievable. It's measured at 10% THD and at 4 ohms, and to get close to 175w x 2 + 350w you would need at least a 700w power supply. These ship with a 160w power supply, so the absolute best you'll get out of it (without upgrading the power supply) is 40w x 2 + 80w into 4 ohms, so more like 25w x 2 + 50w into a typical 8 ohm load. Still more than enough for desk top or small listening rooms, and perfectly OK as part of a soundbar replacement setup in a larger room.

    Barrett--my man! thank you for pushing the reviewing envelope we just made the following comment somewhere else:
    "May we suggest a good place to start is to focus on it's sound quality and don't be afraid put it in a system with Focals, Wilsons, KEFs, PS-Audio, Dynaudio, Magico and close your eyes and enjoy the sound ---and not pigeonhole into scenarios i.e., desktops, garages and second systems only simply based on their price, size and being Class D, as is the norm across reviewers."
    And you did it---bravo
    We sort-of conducted our own crude listening test. Our DAC samples RUclips streams at 48K, we flipped between your Sonus Faber Sonetto VIII powered by the Tonewinner amp and your Fosi BT30D powering the Sonus Faber Sonetto VIII (in this video), listiening to the same track "Gentleman"--and I must tell you, we enjoyed the track must better with the Fosi BT30D powering the Sonus Faber Sonetto VIII pairing---hands down!!! it was not even close.

    I have a NAD 216thx powering a st of Cerwin-Vega vs100. It's a real nice sounding AB 125wpc @8 ohms amp. It's pretty old so I am getting it serviced. I bought the Fosi V3 for a stop-gap and wanted a backup amp anyway. It got great reviews and I own a Fosi MO4 for a 12" sealed sub I built and it does a good job for its use. Anyway, the V3 is great, the vs100 are 95db sensitivity so I don't have to push it but cranking them up it holds its own. I was suprised by the bass and clarity. Upstream I have a WIIM Pro, RME ADI-2 DAC fs, Schiit Freya N preamp. I have the 48v power supply and found about 3/4 on the dial was best, I control volume with the preamp. I agree, best for a small room or near field set-up.

    It helps having a good set of speakers to drive like you do but I could tell it was pushing those drivers pretty decently. It had some pretty good bass. By the way the speakers are gorgeous. Thanks for the review I got the 30 but not the pro it wasn't available at the time I bought the 30 it's still a sweet little amp. I think I'm going to upgrade to the pro for the more power cuz who doesn't need more power LOL what size power supply does it come with? because my b t30d only came with a 4.5amp power supply which is not enough to get the potential out of it so I upgraded my power supply and it made a huge difference!

    I just upgraded my desktop amp from Fosi Audio BT30D to BT30D Pro. The difference in power delivery is massive. With regular BT30D I often need to crank up the volume knob to 60-70% to get the volume I want, and I don't listen to loud music. With the Pro I rarely need to reach 50%. Sound quality is also improved. The regular BT30D uses very unusual opamps (I forgot the number, but they are quad opamps and are not commonly used in signal line), while the PRO uses the generic 5532 opamps. Also the regular B30D has this problem of clipping if the input signal is too high, and the PRO doesn't have that problem. I bought it for around $76
    I've replaced the opamps of the regular BT30D with 4562 and it sounds way better. I'm planning to replace the 5532 of the PRO with 4562 also

    I bought 4 various versions of these things to take load off of my avr in 5.1.6 and they seem to work fine. I don't know if my ears could tell the difference but they seem fine to me. I kind of have a feeling of wondering if I'm missing something not using a 2k amp but for $60-$130 each I had to give it a shot. Plus I forget to turn them off and only one of the four gets warm. And its the one in a big enclosure and the highest psu.

    I've also recently got into these cheap Amazon/China class D amps, and picked up the Fosi DA2120C that has a built in DAC and more inputs. As reference, I've been in the home theater space as a hobbyist for like 20 years (god I feel old now), and my current HT setup consists of several thousands of dollars worth of gear, but I've never ventured into this mini amp/DAC setup space before, and I'll tell you right now, I prefer my Fosi DA2120C 2.1 setup for music than my current 5.1.2 setup. I've got cheap JBL Loft speakers connected to the Fosi and a Kantu Sub8, and it sounds just perfect for the space it takes up, and the minimal cost. I'm hearing things in music I've simply never heard before, and it's added so much more joy and interest in listening to music. And like many, including cheapaudioman, isn't that the benchmark of a good system - that it makes you want to listen to more music? Not to discredit my 5.1.2 setup, but I simply don't have a way to feed it a good source like I do with the Fosi, which is connected to my laptop for hi-res lossless Apple music.
    For those with slightly bigger budgets and are concerned about the DAC performance of OPs amp, I'd highly recommend the DA2120C. Currently on sale now for close to an ATL, at $145 after a $20 coupon.

      So are you comparing 2 channel stereo from the fosi with a home theatre 5 channel base, 2 atmos system with I suppose a av receiver of some sort? That is the receiver like a denon or or yamaha or something? If you put the receiver in 2 channel stereo to make an equal comparison then music listening should be at least as good as the fosi and most would prob say better on a dedicated 2 channel avr pushing 100-125 watts in 2 channel. Sorry if I'm confused and getting this wrong but a surround sound setup has to divide the total wattage and most importantly listening to music genneraly is better in 2 channel. In addition there are so many selections in an avr that can effect good music listening, such as pure direct mode, is there a surrond up mixing option on, crossover, etc, you prob know all of the details.

    Cool review! Those little amps are impressive. I have 2 SMSL SA300's. One on my desk top, and one in my family room. My TV is above the fireplace, preventing a center ch, so I have a 2.1 set up there. Amazingly they kick ass! Sub outs, tone controls and decent power. Can't go wrong with the Fosi, especially for the price. A good steak costs as much these days lol. 😂

    Thanks for the review. Sadly my experience with Chinese designed products is that they mysteriously break 1 week after the warranty expires, must be a built in cycle counter or just subpar components (which is not surprising). So either buy once-cry once and it it'll last you a life-time or something that's cheap, but lasts 2 years, tops. Great review, though, thanks.

    • @SpecOfTech
      @SpecOfTech  Год назад +1

    • @ceeweedsl
      @ceeweedsl 8 месяцев назад

      So, basically anything made in China is the same? My experience has been that it depends quite a bit on the brand and specific model's design. I have a $20 3116 that barely works, it's got a counterfeit chip in it, can't take over 20V. I also have a $50 Aiyima 3116 based 2.1 amp and it's night and day for build quality.

    • @petejay1409
      @petejay1409 8 месяцев назад

      @@ceeweedsl Well, that's the problem - that everything made in China is not the same, highly inconsistent quality. If you buy something designed (not necessarily made) in Japan, Europe, Germany, America, Australia, South Korea etc. you can be pretty sure, you're buying quality, give or take, however Chinese desined stuff, you are flipping a coin and I, for one, am tired of experimenting, especially if it's something pricey. For example would you buy a Chinese designed car? Although 40% less expensive, in 4 years its residual value is between $0 and a landfill...

    • @ceeweedsl
      @ceeweedsl 8 месяцев назад

      @@petejay1409 This is not a car, it's a class D amp. Built around the latest Texas Instruments amplifier chips. TI also designed the reference circuit although it's not clear where Fosi varies from that reference. I've been very happy with ours for over a year and it seems robust externally and internally. I like that many of these class D amps use an external power supply. A laptop supply will work though underpowered. One less thing to fail and cause me to trash the amp. I also have an Aiyima 2.1 amp based on the older TI 3116 chips that is very nicely made as well but about half the power. Still loud and clear. Both amazing quality for the money. But hey, if you believe that it's going to fail soon then you should definitely not get anything made in China.
