    I recently bought the WiiM amp and a chifi hybrid. Douk gizmo to AB then. Different for sure, but with tone controls/EQ, still too many variable to decide on a keeper. Anyway, decided to watch a movie through the WiiM. I couldn’t get the audio to synch with the video. Even after fiddling with the TVs settings. Just fyi for those aspiring for a soundbar replacement. My WiiM amp, connected to my tv, no bueno. YMMV, but if this feature is important to you (2.1 home the-at-er) make sure you try that out early. This is through hdmi connect. Didn’t try rca.

    I bought the SMSL AL200 a while ago.
    It sounded great...while it worked. I think the quality control must be very poor, because it only worked for two weeks, one of which I didn't even use it. It turned itself off and never came back on.
    I keep using my old AIYIMA D03 which, although it is not the most attractive, works perfectly and sounds very good, especially for its price.

    Hey Randy, would love to see you review something from Buckeye Amps. They are value-priced, performance-priority (as opposed to aesthetics or features) made-in-Canada amps based on Hypex and Purifi Class D modules. The cheapest one is a 250W/channel stereo Hypex for $575. Measurements are off the charts. But how does it sound? You could answer that for us….

  • @mikel5582
    @mikel5582 5 месяцев назад +3

    I watched a video yesterday touting an "affordable amp" that was north of $3k. At this my point in life buying that amp wouldn't noticeably hurt my bank book but what the heck? Why describe a >$3000 component as "affordable"?
    Being somewhat new to watching hi-fi RUclips channels, I'm left with the impression that channel owners either focus on under $1k stuff or over $3k stuff with very few reviews of in-between stuff.
    A big question for me is: at what point in price does additional cost start seeing diminishing returns on sound, build, aesthetics, and durability?

    • @cheapaudioman
      @cheapaudioman  5 месяцев назад +1

      lol... almost immediately. not all 1k amps are the same. some companies mark up their stuff 3x over cost and some 12x over cost. with the new class d stuff it's getting harder and harder to justify 1k plus stuff if you're just in it for the sound... most people aren't just in it for the sound though. if we really peel back the onion we all like things for different reasons. it's a long way to say that I bet I could set up a system for under $500 and play it next to a 5k one and blind test folks and I doubt they'd be able to pick out the more expensive ones. these ultra affordable class d's are great but if you have a decent budget I'd get something from Cambridge, Yamaha, or Emotiva. Denon etc. are there differences? sure. but they're minimal

    I would separate my amp from my preamp. - I have the Emotive BASX-A2 which sounds incredible with my Linn Espek floor standing speakers. It is easily filling a 500 square foot space. They can be had for $500. For a preamp, I am running an older Music Hall integrated amp with a pre out function . However, if I had to buy a new preamp I would want to keep things as simple as possible -- the Schiit SYS Passive Preamp Volume Control and 2-Input Switch -- at $75 -- will work with just about any line source (except for a turntable) and pick up minimal distortion to feed that excellent Emotiva amp.

    @francescotenti193 5 месяцев назад +2

    Yes, lots of great choices for under $600.00, the Yamaha A-S501 at $599.00 should make that list as well and ditto for the Cambridge AXR85 and 100 currently on sale for $499.00 and $599.00. A few months ago, I picked a Cambridge CXA61 for $599.00, brand new and not refurbished, lots of connections, BT and DAC and that nice Cambridge sound. Generally speaking, I'm not crazy about the small Chinese amps because of lack of connectivity, more often than not just one set of RCA's. To me the best deal when on sale at about $150.00, or less, is the Sony, lots of power, connections, BT, phono and headphones pre amps. Throw in a set of Sony speakers and a source, it can be a phone to start, and you have really good sound for about $300.00, or less if lucky, not a bad deal.

    Missing from Yamaha: The R-S202 can be had (refurbished) for $129 for solid, inexpensive two-channel listening. The R-N303 is just $249. Both are 2x100, have phono pre-amp, etc. The 202 has bluetooth, the 303 has WiFi and MusiCast. The Yamahas have (in my experience, which isn't saying much) much better quality than the comparable Sonys.

    When it's on sale the SMSL VMV A1 Class A Biased amp with a headphone amp out the back is amazing... And is under $600 on sale, $659 not on sale. 10w+10w 8ohm so you will need fairly sensitive speakers...

      well Fosi already got 2 slots on here and I like the ZA3 over the V3. V3 is still awesome but having a list of 10 amps with 3 being from Fosi isn't all that interesting.

    TELL YOUR PEOPLE OVER AT FOSI AUDIO WE WANT A SUBWOOFER ONLY AMP THAR HAS A DIAL TO CONTROL THE LOW PASS FROM LIKE 20hz to 125hz MAX! Not this stupid 300hz low pass nonsense. It should be a 18db not this 6,8, or 12db nonsense where you can still hear vocals coming over the sub! Supply it with the better 48V 5A power supply do not even bother with the garbage 32V power supply!!!! Making them stackable and linkable would nice. It would be nice if the they made a full range model with a true 3 band parametric EQ! I think they fail to understand how much the market wants these things!!!! Sincerely-John

    So I'm looking for an amp to connect to ky Pioneer lx505 to be able to connect 2 more channels for 7.1.4. I think it does not has to be that expensive, as receiver will do most of the job for it, but it needs to have passive outputs for my incoming monitor bronze 50s. What would you recommend?

    I would appreciate a video discussing how a external DAC comes into play with an amplifier that already has one built-in
    Maybe you can draw a small diagram whilst talking about the topic..

    This was a really good review! Proof that you don't have to put yourself in the poorhouse spending mega bucks on a overpriced system that only gives marginal returns. I liked this and frankly I do have a tough time choosing from this list (save for the Emotiva $600 amp as that is already too high for me). The Loxji unit looks pretty good as a nice all in one system for my computer setup. I saw the review on that and like it. But I do like the idea of going with small separates that are based around the Fosi ZA3.

    Hey Randy been looking at getting the TA1 however even on the current sale international shipping brings it up to around 790usd. I can buy the rotel a10 from a a local distributor for around 400usd, however would like the extra power, sub out ect. I’m struggling to gauge the value proposition especially as 2/3 of the cost is shipping and have no ability to listen to it in person, and think that that money could be better spent somewhere else. Would love to get your thoughts. I plan on using it to drive a a pair of kef q150s with a a project debut carbon / laptop as the source. Thanks mate really love the channel.

    What I would like to see from Fozi are these amps mounted in a chassis with an integrated power supply(s). The long dc power cable into the amp raises the impedance and limits bass dynamics. Maybe it sounds good with the giant external power brick, but it could sound better with a good power supply, closely coupled to the amplifier stage.

    Ok what good is a subwoofer output with out a subwoofer amp with true adjustable low pass well bellow 300hz like in the 20hz to 100hz range? I do not want to spend $500 for a subwoofer amp when all I really need is for Fosi Audio to get off their ass and build an exhisting product with the added true low pass adjustable feature I need.

    New one(s) from Fosi already on kickstarter. And they'll come with a much antecipated 48v 10a power supply, so the true max power of the tpa3255 will be unleashed. (i hope). Overall measurements and expected price seem excellent and looks like fosi will step it up, once again!
