    This is why the endurance cars are so much better right now than F1, the LMPs have to freedom on design and powertrains that F 1 doesn't. But it's also like comparing Apples to Pears.

    Front Wheel Drive ! Wow, that's a total departure from main stream racing. And it explains the long hood. This will be something to watch.

      It has plenty of disadvantages. And it's nothing new in racing. It was used long ago. The reason it's not used anymore, is because of the known disadvantages. Understeering, and the fact that weight shifts to the rear upon acceleration.

    • @Chuck59ish
      @Chuck59ish 9 лет назад

      With hydraulic suspension sued today acceleration squat isn't a problem. And yes they did have a gearbox problem during the COA runs, but at least they knew what the problem was.. As foe winning the Miller cars in the 1930 & 40s at Indianapolis were front wheel drive. And if it wasn't for innovation, we'd still be drive Ford Model Ts.

    • @Mooselover1011
      @Mooselover1011 9 лет назад

      Charles Damery The squat isn't what matters. It's how energy travels.

    • @Chuck59ish
      @Chuck59ish 9 лет назад

      They have an electric motor to power the rear wheels on acceleration, so it's a moot point. It is a hybrid.

    • @Mooselover1011
      @Mooselover1011 9 лет назад

      Charles Damery There is more power in the rear, but bigger tires in the front. Another thing that makes no fucking sense.

    All the people who say that its going to understeer just by the fact that it is front wheel drive do not know squat...

      Ryan B no worst than any other LMP1s , the Porsches and Audis have huge front arches.

    Fornt wheel drive in straight run and all wheel drive acceleration in start and cornering thats why they put bigger tires in front coz it spins more than the rear for only acceleration purposes but they can used front and rear simultaneous when the road is in wet condition its amazing isnt it?

    GT Academy drivers already in this year? If yes, that's pretty quick, atleast 1 year in the GT3 category.

      Meaning drivers who came through the GT academy previously. Like Shulzhitskiy, Mardenborough, Reip, and Ordonez.

    Its not front wheel drive! It is all wheel drive like every other LMP car. 550hp from naturally aspirated twin turbo v6 and 750hp going to rears from KERS.

  • @Mooselover1011
    @Mooselover1011 9 лет назад

    God, please don't tell me that means the new GT-R is going to be front wheel drive. And what the hell were they thinking with front wheel drive? All the weight of the car shifts to the rear when you accelerate. Plus front wheel drive will understeer. It is really hard to make it not understeer. They've used front wheel drive in motorsports before, it's nothing new. It's not used now, because it was proven less efficient in racing.Only one thing he mentioned is true. More efficiency. However, faster cars blowing by, and lapping you means they can fill up faster than the super efficient car. I'm truly amazed they went with a front wheel drive layout. Astonished really.

      No the street version, which isn't coming out until 2018 model year will be a mid-engine version to race in GT3 against the Ford GT and such.

      550hp to fronts from naturally aspirated twin turbo v6. 750hp to the back via KERS, but i am not sure how they're storing the energy.

    • @Donkybonky

      For Le Mans? You know it!
      the Nissan has been designed to send some of the hybrid power to the skinny rear tires if desired. How that power reaches the tires is the good part.
      From dailysportscar
      Picture the loooooong driveshaft extending from the front of the car to the back of the car, terminating at the rear axle line. It connects to a differential housing that scales upward, high enough for driveshafts to reach across and over the through-flow aero tunnels. Those driveshafts connect to individual gearboxes that also sit in tall housings. With the high differential housing connected to the high outrigger gearboxes via driveshafts, the rear wheels are turned by short driveshafts from the base of the gearboxes.
      The entire exercise is done to prevent sticking driveshafts through the tunnels and reducing aero efficiency. Anyone other than Bowlby would have skipped the Herculean task and lived with the extra drag. Thankfully, he and Eakin, the team’s gearbox genius, chose performance over ease. Toyota played with RWD and AWD versions of its LMP1-H challenger during its development stage, so it’s hard to say whether the Nissan will start racing with FWD, AWD, or a blend of both options, but we do know the systems are in place to be utilized.

      I don't get it. You're saying that not only will only the front rubber be steering and powering the car but on top of that they have a complicated electric awd drive option that is above the aero tunnels therefore raising the CoG? Also petrol in a class that is skewed for diesel. It's going to fall off the road and be slow.

    • @Donkybonky
      @Donkybonky 9 лет назад +1

      GrahamBartle You may be right! However the benefits of those aero tunnels can't be underestimated. Time will tell: should be fun to follow!

    • @ShionShinigami
      @ShionShinigami 9 лет назад +2

      GrahamBartle At least you can say that this kind of technical layout was never been done in such a high level race car, so there is a lot room for improvement especially at the beginning. And time will tell what is the maximum potential out of it. I mean no professional race car company has tried it out, so no one can say for sure that it will turn out badly and unsucsessful.
