Everyone can hate on these guys for using the "wrong wheel drive" and all that stuff, but I have nothing but respect for them because they are not conforming to the technology that every other team is following and they are genuinely trying to push the limits of what we know about racing.
@@turdferguson9190 Exactly. The car wasn't getting the electric drive to the rear wheels, IIRC, robbing them of about 30% of their power. This thing had epic potential.
This made me emotional. All the hard work, dedication, and hope that all the teams put into their cars, 24 hours of continuous fighting, something you don't see when you just watch it on TV. Films like this and Truth in 24 continuously make me appreciate, love, and most of all respect motorsport more than I already do.
+LuWeiHuang This caught something that most people don't realize about racing, and that is racing isn't just the race, it's the thousands of hours of preparation, the engineering, the fabrication, the testing, the tuning, the practicing, the re-engineering, the re-building, and more practicing that occurs to get to the race that is really racing.
Five years later, I still watch this video at least 1x every three months. I like everything about it. The racing, the engineering, the narrative, the cinematography, and the music. LeMans is a beast. If you’ve ever driven a Nissan Skyline GTR, it all makes sense.
Say thanks to GoPro also, for creating this Audiovisual masterpiece. Watching Le Mans since 2018, but watching this feels like that I've been in the race already. I'm watching it rn to see the Nissan running.
this is some really great stuff right here. the storytelling, the cinematography, everything that went into this video is top notch. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.
Nissan. I'll always be a fan for life. The proverbial "economy car" line that took the first cross-country title in Australia under the Datsun name. The inventor of the RB series inline 6 twin-turbo. An underdog with a top-dog bite and hold. They might not have gotten a LeMan's title yet, but they've taken titles in many other races around the world. From the street to the track. I have faith that Nissan will take a LeMans cup. They've always had rough starts, then came out on top. Just like the original Star Wars movies. Laughed at by execs, loved by millions of fans. This is the kind of competitor I like. The people who try different things. Take bold moves, and take risks.
love these types of videos, theres nothing better than sitting down and watching a 30 minutes video instead of all those 2 minute videos that GoPro posts, Awesome job GoPro!
+Dheeraj Reddy that they disrespected what le mans stands for by putting out that they're "different" when their sorry asses were even slower than some LMP2 cars. they had the nerve to gather so much hype but cannot deliver ONCE AGAIN. they do it every year at le mans with the deltawing, that stupid zeod and this piece of crap of a P1.
+The Host First of all, you didn't tell me what I wanted to know which is what the commenter means by "winning 24 hours of marketing. " Yes Nissan didn't do well. But they put in their best effort, as shown in the video. They didn't disrespect anybody or anything. The video begins with why Nissan thinks they shouldn't copy their competition (in your words, being different)
+Dheeraj Reddy They put their best efforts my ass. They made a weird race car in 6 months , got to Le Mans , had a race full of problems and mechanical issues and they finished with one car 100 and some laps behind the leader. In 2014 they said " we will win Le Mans " . At the beggining of 2015 they said " we will not race Silverstone and Spa because we will keep developing the car for winning Le Mans ". After the first practice session at Le Mans when they've found out the car is crap and full of issues they started with the usual bullshit " it is a revolutionary design , we didn't have time to test " and so on. After a dreadful Le Mans race , they said " we will be back in 2016 and we will win everything". And now , a few weeks ago they retired for 2016 WEC saying " they have to focus on their other racing programs ". It was nothing but a dirty marketing move and the sad thing is it worked.
Nissan didn't win the Le Mans, but they definitely won a lot of fans with their social media efforts and content. Gran Turismo competition, the youtube live streaming and now this documentary. Epic work and I can't wait to see this car succeed.
Personally I think it was pretty brave to have 3 cars there....they really worked the crew. Hopefully they can get their hybrid system to work next year! Great job, NISMO...hope to see you in the FIA WEC series.
Le mans, precioso vídeo, increíble trabajo de equipo para intentar acabar una de las carreras mas duras y prestigiosas del mundo, gracias por compartir con todos nosotros como se vive desde dentro este apasionante deporte de equipo.Gracias.
Beautiful video ! It absolutely represents the magic and spirit of le Mans. Sounds, atmosphere, race highlights, night, spectators, just perfect ! About Nissan, well, it was a mistake to spend too much money on advertising. They could use that money to develop the car faster and better. The car wasn't fast either on track, 20 sec slower than the 3.16's Porsche N°17 and it wasn't reliable. For their technical choices (FWD, FR Engine, 5 Speed Gearbox), it really takes time to develop the package, you can't make a competitive race car in such short amount of time (For example, the first shakedown of the Porsche 919 hybrid was in June 2012 !). Plus the Hybrid system was set off during the race cause it was far to be reliable. Darren Cox is now apparently out from Nissan Motorsports, but I'm pretty sure the truth is he got fired. Sorry to say that but that was the right choice. Now Nissan is fully concentrate on developing the car and hopefully they'll be able to fight Toyota, Audi and Porsche. Good luck Nissan ! And please make your car RWD, you gonna be much faster on the Porsche essesses.
***** Sure; Nissan had a brilliant idea there. But Nissan was limited in budget for racing this year and as you probably imagine, it is very difficult to develop a car with 4 times less the budget of Porsche.
+TobRacer I think that is the all idea for Nissan. Innovation in technologie, taking things further where others fear to go. So they fail. But they will be back and try again. It's love for engeneering, not taking results as the absolute purpose. Since delta wing cars or else. I completely understand what you say. But also understand the way they put thing in mind.
+TobRacer This isn't how budgets work. They didn't spend development money on advertising, the advertising dollars were always advertising dollars. Pouring money at the problem does not allow you to overcome time. Honda/McLaren, RedBull are spending plenty of cash and are both garbage.
+TobRacer RWD is obsolete in LMP1 right now, everybody runs AWD (although not full-time around a lap), which Nissan intended to do also but couldn't make it work in time but they will do next year.
This is what motor sport should be. Different Manufactures should be encouraged to demonstrate what they think or what they can do the best. In my point of view innovation is always a big part of motorsports, but it's just too EXPENSIVE too lose or play around or not helpful enough to improve the revenue of the car company. That's really sad
ik this car was slow when taking corners which most likely contributed to it being slower then pace but u cant say that the beginning when it was entering the first long straight; it sounded amazing
Everyone can hate on these guys for using the "wrong wheel drive" and all that stuff, but I have nothing but respect for them because they are not conforming to the technology that every other team is following and they are genuinely trying to push the limits of what we know about racing.
Conforming to what is beneficial to win races ,everything else dont matter.
@@stevenjr6582 the car never really had an oppurtunity to perform fully...
The side you drive on hardly qualifies as "technology".
@@turdferguson9190 Exactly. The car wasn't getting the electric drive to the rear wheels, IIRC, robbing them of about 30% of their power. This thing had epic potential.
It's not about technology, it's about physics.

I can't even imagine all the work put behind setting up, mounting, color grading and editing this video. Much respect to the GoPro team.

Genuinely one of the best executed automotive films I have watched in a long time. Kudos.
Great video about the importance of failure. Success is earned through hard work and even then it isn't guaranteed.
Best video gopro has uploaded so far
Hands down best and most powerful GoPro video. My dream as a kid was to race in the 24hr Le Mans. It's never too late
4k quality is insane

I watched it in 144p. Insane.
I didnt watch it. Insane.
Awesome! One of the best films I've seen about Le Mans. Congratulations to all involved in the making. Good luck to nismo next year!

So proud of the Nissan LM cars! If you own a Nissan, you have a piece of brilliance!
so much respect for the team and the idea of the car itself. being the different one and going the "wrong" direction. this is a special car.
I think every single engineer apreciated your try, wish nismo luck for the next year, you were brave with this completely new concept.
The sounds..........the sounds are amazing! I aspire to be one of these engineers. I want this so bad....see you in a few years.
What an unbelievable story. Love it.
The sound of turbo in the slow running engine is something surreal! Pretty beautiful!
amazing story, footage, and editing. couldn't take eyes off of video.
1:21 I love this sound!

amazing edit!! love that cinematic effects!! nice gopro team and filmakers!!!

Wow, to see the backstage of what these guys had to go through, "awesome" is an understatement!
Best video you have published in a looong time. Keep it up!
more vids like this longer than an intro, its about time!
I love this video! Go Nissan! Keep up the good work.
Awesome video guys, really captured the the event, the teamwork and kept me entertained throughout. Great story.
This is awesome! Hope they will be joining the race for years to come.
Its sad that they don't continue this project.. They give up already 🙄
chantiboy Nissan is not the company they used to be, all starts at the very TOP, ownership and leadership.
Wow! That was made incredibly well. A sure eye opener on the behind the scenes and dedication to this sport.
The big Japanese promise is back in the road. Congratulations to Nismo and GoPro.
Les 24h du Mans, juste magique !

This 4K video is amazing, thanks you!
More harder to the victory more relief you have and the left scars will tell the story...
Congratulation Nissan
Amazing video.. Kudos to Nissan for trying hard and bringing new innovations to the table. Can't wait to see what they do next year.
They had a bad race this year in Le Mans. So innovation, they still need to work on that. I hope they race better next year.
Good work Nissan, Awesome work on the audio video work too. Spectacular piece of video!
24h of Le Mans! what a race!
My favorite lmp car ever made even though they didn't finish but still my favorite
