In fact it’s been forgotten but Jim Brown’s reputation was such that when Burt Reynolds saw his stunt double arrive he called Zanuck and demanded that a black stuntman be found he told them it would be no way Brown would allow a white me in black face to be his double. Once that barrier was broken on this film and the Split both starring Brown then the campaign started by the black stuntmen was almost won it would end when James Garner signed with them making skin game. That allowed the black stuntmen to have a chance to make money.

jim as well as being a great football player was an intelligent and articulate man.he was also a very good actor.he was making waves in the industry and did some great roles in very big pictures.then sadly for him blaxploitation movies became a huge thing in the early 70s.great for black actors on the whole but jim did some and kind of got identified with them much as lee van cleef was with italian westerns.when the craze ended jim was no longer on the a list of stars.its a shame because he was an amazing screen actor.if you think of the action films of the 80s many would have been ideal for jim.hollywood wanted a black action star as eddie murphy proved.
