Cabbage Key used to be an old Florida hole in the wall bar. Back in the 80's I was a delivery captain and it was my go to stop on the way when I was coming across the Okeechobee and up to Tampa. It was just a bar and there was a parrot that walked up and down the bar and would knock your beer over if you didn't pick it up. Good memories.

I've been watching since the start and really appreciate your content and spirit! Keep up the good work. If my bucket list pans out maybe we can meet up around a fire on a beach somewhere. Thanks

Captiva and Cuys are my favorite spots on the Gulf, Spent my life from a kid staying at Jensens cottages on Captiva, awesome old florida resort and we rent a skiff to run around the bay , My daughter and i never went to Cabbage key, after this video i regret that, Awesome fun video , seems like old times guys , Looking good out there, I Just Bought a 42' Chris Craft , doing refit in Hilton Head sc and will be motoring to west coast of Florida soon, it is home where i grew up and spent my days boating and sailing from a kid, from Tarpon Springs south to LongBoat key and love South Florida, finally getting back on the water, cant wait! My daughter sent you all a video of us at North Captiva Pass with a Dolphin acting like our long lost dog!

Really impressed by your video skills. Truly beautiful and yet still homespun natural like.
This old dog enjoys watching young cats in love with the sea and life.
Been hanging out in the charlotte harbor arena for 30 years now after I stopped by to visit my brother as a single hand live aboard at anchor. Pelican bay is a favorite spot during the weekdays.
I wish you well as you do life.

In March we chartered a Seawind 1000XL out of Burnt Store Marina (Charlotte Harbor) and stayed at both Pelican Bay and Cabbage Key. Pelican Bay as an anchorage is outstanding, being protected from all directions and decent space for a couple dozen boats. The dinghy dock to Cayo Costa was closed so we didn't get to the west side - bummer. Cabbage Key was almost vacant compared to your visit. We ate dinner, and the steaks, fish and chicken were all first class, although not cheap. Excellent ingredients and obviously prepared by a true chef - one of the best meals I've ever had. The Nature Trail is lovely and takes you past some of their rental houses. They also have a handful of rooms in the restaurant/hotel. Beautiful little spot. I am enjoying your adventures!

Punta Blanca also had a schoolhouse on it which one of my uncles went to school there in the 50's. In the 70's, before the State took possession of it you could camp on it. Growing up my family and I camped on it many times. I have metal detected it over the years and found some cool relics and coins there. Cabbage Key does have great food and is reasonably priced and with my job I have gotten to know the owner. I have some cool videos on my channel of going there in a helicopter. One recent video, I mounted a Gopro on the outside of the helicopter. My first dollar bill I put in the restaurant was in 1984... yes, I'm old.

And their website appears to appreciate their effort, meaning they shows photos and videos of the lovely couple. I completely agree, this is a special new, beautiful upgrade to a funky boat company. I like how they are giving the greatness of a tri design and Corsairs trialability a boost with a gorgeous, fast looking design.

You can find all the old bottles you could ever want by diving off the end of Duval St, north end of the island. Facing north Left of Pier House down by the Concret columns. It’s a tricky dive and you can only dive at slack tide, 45 minutes. That end of Duval was the garbage dump, Cuba Coke bottles, blue glass, old blob top port bottles etc. etc.

I've been to that exact sandbar inside of Caya Costa, towards the end of the video that you stayed at, many, many times. Cool spots to see on the way south is the pink sand beach on the Gulf side of the north tip of North Captive., Then Ding Darling and Tarpon bay on the inside side of Sanibel. Then headed south, the inside side of Cocohatchee Pass. Then just inside Hurricane Pass at the south tip of Keewayden Island. Then just south of that is Captain Kirby's Cove (fun spot). Then passing Marco Island, the Dome Homes off the tip of Cape Romano are a very cool and interesting history of a failed family paradise that was built many years ago, but the island washed out from under these stilt dome houses. They are out in the water and great to snorkel under on a slack tide is the winds are low and the water is clear.

Bottle/artifact hunting: As others have mentioned, old settlement sites (don't dig unless you find a trash dump), dive historic areas.
My best experience was while working for a Land Surveyor during construction of the Ocean Reef Club on North Key Largo. Deep in the mangroves, jungle and salt marsh. Occasionally we'd find old hand-made bottles, and ship's hatch covers carried inland by hurricanes.
Unfortunately, the "how-to" may involve hours with a machete, deep in the jungle. Or just check with some Land Surveyors, some of them are interested in artifacts, and may be willing to share clues. You're in a good area to just stumble upon stuff.

I have no knowledge on searching for bottles along the beach.... but, if you can find an old homestead inland from the beach they will often have a dump hole where they threw things that would not burn in a firepit, such as bottles. In Oklahoma some of the OLD homesteads can be difficult to find and may only have a couple of flat foundation stones on the ground or more common will be some non native plants growing close to where the house used to be. Such as Iris or Easter Lilies. I'm not sure what would have been a popular plant in your area though.
