if you guys would like,i can pick you up in whittier...take you for a road trip to see denali or just into anchorage..or if you just need something delivered from anchorage(boat parts?)i can bring them down to you...i'd do it just to check out your boat..whittier harbor is usually full..if so,i can pick you up in seward which should have room for your boat..thanks for the vid..safe sailing..pws sure is a beautiful place...i fish out of kodiak and live in willow..
A couple of questions about winter yachting, if you don't mind: - before snowstorm, what if you try covering winch and sheet on it with some cotton\plastic bag or some other covering and wrap it with some thin rope(so that it won't fall off from wind)? You can just take off that covering afterwards and your winch would be free from snow and most of the moisture and should be more workable in such conditions; - what are the possible dangers to unblocking frozen hatches with warm\hot water (considering there are plenty of show around and heat source available inside); - could teak decking help with walking on the deck?
Looks fantastic. Can you tell us how you would mitigate and what survival techniques you use if an accident was to happen like falling in the water, ie getting warm, do you carry fire making stuff with you? I’m sure many of us would find these things really interesting. Lovely to watch
I live in Sitka Alaska and I have to tell you to be very careful up there where you anchor up during the winter because a lot of bays have fresh water flowing into them and that water stays on the surface and overnight if it is cold enough, the entire bay will freeze and you will be stuck until it thaws which could be weeks to months. So always anchor in bays with lots of seawater moving in and out and no big rivers in the mouths.
It happens in Chichester Marina in the Solent as well and is so thrilling crunching through the ice back to your berth!! Ha Ha not like the Arctic at all!!!!
Always knew the Finns were a hardy folk, these are the people that fought the soviets to a standstill in the Winter War, but this is as ridiculously hardcore as anything I have ever seen!
I am going through each of your videos one by one and enjoying them very much. I appreciate how you explain the technical aspects of all that you are doing and your thought process when making decisions. The viewer can learn a lot watching these as your breadth of knowledge is really impressive. Best of luck growing your channel.
Love your videos. So much fun to see you living in the cold on a boat! I have a paddleboard that I use often. What is the outfit you wear for paddling in freezing conditions? I want to try this
It is good morning when your videos appear! Always calm and soothing to a winter bound central USA. Fantastic to be isolated from other humans for a long time, a serenity that only those who have been there know. Thanks for sharing and all your talent!
For any of you watching this. You have no idea the hardship it takes to do videos like these. They do it with a smile on their face. This is super hard-core.
Babe I get it, that's why it's so outstanding! But I'm from the North of England, it can get bad but never Artic bad 🤫 You speaking to the others, from tropical sailing year round?
Thanks! Another great video. I can’t turn the clock back and walk in your shoes/skis but your videos help me to imagine I could have been there and done that. Really enjoying your gentle sense of humour.
I would just like to tell you something it’s my first time watching you but anytime you have a problem with any kind of seal that goes around the door or rubber seal, car boats anything use Vaseline just enough rub it on your fingers and run it around the whole rubber seal on both sides and you’ll never stickit doesn’t freeze at all it might help you next time so you won’t have to use your hammer or a screwdriver to break anything because if you break something where you are you can’t repair it OK this is Alan Weir from Massachusetts
Turbidity is the cloudiness or haziness of a fluid caused by large numbers of individual particles that are generally invisible to the naked eye, similar to smoke in air. The measurement of turbidity is a key test of both water clarity and water quality.
Again greetings from Poland. I have been watching you since very beginning and I love it. I have been on sail an ski in Troms once...and Arctic is alluring...and what you are presenting here always moves me out of this world to a different space! Thank you!
Your channel is the best! Every time you ski from your boat it takes me back to my past, skiing from my kayak in beautiful Lake Tahoe California! You are one of the reasons my wife and I recently bought a 38 foot sailboat and started sailing in the Pacific! We currently are living on the boat, fixing it and doing a few day sails each week and the occasional overnight out to the beautiful Channel Islands off the coast of California. Maybe someday we will sail to my favorite place Juneau Alaska! Maybe someday you’ll come here! Fairwinds!
for like a week or 2 now I was craving for a new video of AAs, and here it is! 😀 Great scenery and narration, as always. I'm so glad I found this channel, it's one of the best I've ever come across. Every video tells a story, a piece of your unique adventures, way of life, with amazing landscapes and videography. Makes me feel calm and somehow know that freedom truly exists.
The entire continent of North America was covered in glaciers until 12,000 years ago. Where I live, 130 miles north of New York City, there was a glacier 2 miles thick! Long Island, NY is a giant morraine from that glacier!
OK. The scenic shots were awesome! That bay is beautiful! But I was really curious to see the inside/interior of your "cozy sailboat", so disappointed not seeing the inside 🙁. Plus I was wondering how you heat your interior?
Merci à vous deux pour ce partage. Magnifique. Restez comme vous êtes tous les deux. Vous faites parti de ceux que je préfère regarder. Bravo. ( From France/Brittany)
I have to say that I'm very impressed at your courage. Most of us in the U.S. are fair weather sailors. Going out in the winter, especially an artic winter, takes nerves of steel. I don't even like going out in SoCal in the winter as the seas can get rough at any minute. It can be sunny and serene when you head out, and absolutely wind blown and choppy when you head in. Working about ice, snow, and frost-bite is a whole different level.
Those shots around the 8 min mark are incredible. Man I wanna see these mountains someday from a sailboat, too. Thanks for the amazing footage, I clicked on this video expecting a vlog of your adventures and had no idea what a pleasant surprise this would be.
I just love your new boat. You're in such a niche, I'm a sun seeking type of sailor but my hat off to the both of you. Would you mind sharing what video equipment you're using? Thanks
Absolutely Love your videos! This one in particular as I work for the company that provides the Oil Spill Response Barges and Tugs you guys visited in Outside Bay in this video. Keep up the good work Guys !!!
I began watching you, in awe, 4 years ago! I thought-"who is this Juho guy" that thrives in frigid climates. Not your typical sunshine and sandy beach sailing channel. You may have had 5K subscribers then. Now 142K! It's awesome to see how your channel has grown doing something you love. Well done!
Hi from Newcastle Australia. Temperatures in the high 30"s, a bit different from Alaska. Your videos are excellent, you have a great gift for this. Safe travels, I always look forward to your emails.
Beautiful work once again. I am very much enjoying your adventures, and full of admiration for your skill and spirit! Love the wildlife, the snow and the mountains. Looking forward to seeing what else you get up to this winter.Thank you.
I'm from the coast of Maine an we get some crazy winter weather and storms but what we experience isn't as extreme as Alaska is! My hats off to you guy's, what your doing takes nerves of steel! Much love from the coast of Maine 🤙❤️
Hi, beautiful scenery. Another interesting and informative video. Are you ‘riding out ‘ the winter before the Northwest Passage sail to Iceland? Are you Icelandic or Finnish please? Phil, Suffolk, U.K.🇬🇧
love the drone footage of the whales, so special. I have those skis with tele bindings on them, and use the scarpa t4 boot. that way you can ski up hills, and do turns with control on the way down. It is a great ninch ski. I spend my winters on them every day.
I love winter - even to the extreme! Thank you so much for your energy and education. I love learning the details of your life on board, and I especially liked how you acknowledged that you and your partner had no other human contact for 4 weeks…I’m living vicariously
I bought one of your prints on AL. Love it. I see another good print you could make from this video. It is an overhead of you passing over an iceberg, parts of it shooting out of the water on either side of you. I would buy again. That is an awesome experience capture on film, albeit digital now.
Wow! Wow! Wow! This adventure is just incredible!!! Don’t care for sailing, I like cruisers, personally . But adore Alaska! Please stay safe. So many things could go wrong. Shoveling a sailboat is something I’ve never seen nor care to do! You guys are brave and amazing ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I would Winter in Alaska on a cruiser in a heartbeat!! Didn’t realize you were on a small boat. Take extra special care!!!!!
Wow just spectacular, really want to sail in Alaska now, we are of to Finland for a week in a little over 3 weeks but combining my 2 favourite thinks sailing and skiing is a dream!!! Need to make that happen. Safe travels.
What a cool look into glaciers, and firsthand from a paddle board, no less. Dang guys, PWS in January😮! How are you staying warm??! Loved the Nordic skiing. It sure makes me miss home. You two are really brave, prime examples of SISU with an insane desire to share the never ending beauty of extreme weather areas. I sure hope Mother Nature gives you a fair shot at getting home this spring. Magnificent video, thank you.🤗👍🧦🧣🧤
I wonder if putting a tarp over the hatch would make it easy too pull the tarp back from the hatch without the use of cutting tools and hammers. Just an idea I don’t sale.
Thanks for watching! Want to support the creation of these videos? you know where to head to... 🤓

Lovely to watch
Who else beside me wanted to watch them chillin out inside the cabin, watching neflix?
I love winter sailing from the comfort of my warm bed. Thank you for bringing me along.
Me too, no pain . Lessons learned.
Absolutely stunning footage, thank you for sharing 😊
But ONLY from my warm house!
Watching from South Dakota, so nice to enjoy winter sailing videos filmed in warmer climates ; )
🛌🔥u know it😄

So as long as sea water, it doesn't get frozen?

In my cold heated house feeling warm watching you de ice. Switching from my older pattern login and owe you 2 episodes. ❤ from carolinas USA
thanks once again! :) glad you enjoyed
Also watching from the Carolinas..wonderful video....
The glacier picture from 1959 is insane! What a view that would have been in person.
Love your videos. So much fun to see you living in the cold on a boat!

One thing nice about this time of year in Alaska, no big brown bears.

The music is just perfect for this badass video.

Bringing living on the sail to a whole new level! I like the idea of taking it north vs the Caribbean. Now I need to get the wife in board.
It’s rough. I’m a sporty type person and don’t know that I’d want to do this.
Wonderful, stunning, refreshing and so impressive compared with 99% uTubes
I never thought of Winter sailing. But I’d probably take it any day over a hot sticky mess of a Summer day. Beautiful scenery.
Thanks! Another great video. I can’t turn the clock back and walk in your shoes/skis but your videos help me to imagine I could have been there and done that. Really enjoying your gentle sense of humour.

The clarity of the water is called turbidity.
Excellent video. 👍
ALWAYS good to learn a new word. Thanks.
LOL turbidity is the lack of clarity.
Clarity of water is called transparency.
Turbidity is the cloudiness or haziness of a fluid caused by large numbers of individual particles that are generally invisible to the naked eye, similar to smoke in air. The measurement of turbidity is a key test of both water clarity and water quality.
@@danskehansAlways good to be wary of RUclips experts!😂
What a journey! I never expected this to be better than Patagonia sailing, little did i know people could do this. Your skills are exceptional.

Life…well lived! Your videos are such a visual treat and thanks for ‘taking us there’
Would be nice to see a fire down below at anchor with a nice warm cozy evening inside the boat...
The videography, the music, the commentary, it’s all outstanding! BBC levels of quality.
This is a breathtaking location. Your drone footage is exceptional. Stunning. And whales!! SUPing in dry suits!! Thank you Juho & Sohvi. Safe travels.
Wowsers, you're both living such a wonderful lifestyle with fabulous experiences, thank you so much for sharing 🤘👍

I am sure Juho knows being from Finland. Finland was under the same conditions after all :)
Steve Martin had a great joke..."I'd like to see America return to what it once was...a frozen wasteland covered in ice."

I remember Valdez. Now to come at that bay through your beauty first, this is powerful.
Incredible great footage what a view! Wow ❤thank you for sharing.
thanks so much!
@@AlluringArcticThat is a very sweet ride you have there,…and the boat looks pretty good as well.
Beautiful video! The whales were so amazing! Many thanks, Jul and family ❤
I could watch that stunning end scene forever!
That first snow dump looked pretty heavy and wet. Perfect to build a snowman :)
The winter scenery is so beautiful❤
Tack!
This was a breath taking video. Thank you.
I, and I can probably say We, are in awe of your adventures !!!!
This guy is so quietly determined and courageous.

OK. The scenic shots were awesome! That bay is beautiful! But I was really curious to see the inside/interior of your "cozy sailboat", so disappointed not seeing the inside 🙁. Plus I was wondering how you heat your interior?
Take care folks, enjoy seeing your adventure! Carefull how hard you hit that fiberglass with the hammer!!! 😊
Awesome awesome awesome. This is truly awesome photography. My wife and I had the privilege of visiting Alaska last May. Thanks for this video. Bob
little fabric boots to go over the winches would work great.....
Some really beautiful drone shots in this video. Thanks for bringing us along on your travels.

thank you, glad you liked it!
I've been traveling around northern continental scandinavia by car and have completely fallen in love with the north. Alaska looks absolutely amazing.
Really spectacular and unique. Dealing with the cold and skiing from a boat is, frankly, more than I can imagine. I’m hooked.
Fabulous content......as always. Your channel is one of my top favourites. Love & light from Cape Town.🌟💫

Pump pliers to pull knots apart - truly ghastly... Another wonderful film, thanks!
