I love the new improvements on these jeeps. I thought we would never see these modern features! Can’t wait to see how it hold up to the test of time! Another great video and review! Informative and entertaining as always.
This rooftop design is similar to the sliding rooftops that were offered on some Jeep Liberty KKs. Looking at those should somewhat show how this sliding part will hold up over time
I have a 2008 Liberty with the sky slider roof. The roof still works and I open it every chance I get. The only leaking is at the automatic car wash and the dryer sucks the top up a little and lets water in. Otherwise, dry as a bone, snow and rain. I haven't traded it in because of the top.
But it wasn't "raining" when he opened the door, that was his point. The gutter system doesn't protrude far enough forward because they redesigned the windshield so you could flop it on the hood in 5min.
The soft top on my JK works this same way too. Any water trapped in the gutter runs in when I open the door. But it's a jeep and I don't cry about water getting on the floor.
Vhey, even the hard-top on my JK leaks a bit of water into the cabin when you open the doors, so I guess it's a Jeep thing and most of us put-up with a bit of rough around the edges.
This will be a huge issue if your in a cold weather climate like me. Water coming in that amount if you have carpet now your going to have mold issues. In warm weather you can remove the carpet & remove the drain holes in the floor. If someone on the passenger side your now going to have issues. I would give this a failure in cold weather areas.
Do the older wranglers have drain holes? I have a 2010, and a 7 year old. So there are pounds of crumbs and filth in my car. Would love to power wash the floorboards inside and let it drain. lol
My experience with switchgear is quite good when it comes to moisture. Old toggle switches continued to work after repeated moisture/dry cycles. I had problems with old wiring looms/insulation and routing.
This sliding top design is very similar to the sliding top that was offered on the Jeep Liberty for several years. We bought a Liberty for our son and found mixed reviews on the top. The problems seem to occur with age and ranged from leaks to alignment issues. Needless to say we stayed away from that top and got a hardtop. Hopefully Jeep has corrected those problems
cars used to have a drip edge over the door but, maybe to save cost or aerodynamics in the wind tunnel for mpg, it's pretty common for rain to run down into the vehicle. when i first bought my taco and had to open my window during the rain, it wasn't the rain coming in the window that was the issue. it was the waterfall off the roof pouring in that surprised me. vent visors can help with at least the first few inches of open window. no vehicle avoids water coming in entirely if you open the door outside during the rain.
Mr god, ( lower case 'g' intended) Jeep has FINALLY figured out how to make a top that doesn't leak in a heavy rain shower! I do like those removable side/rear windows too.
I hope you guys can talk to the jeep people to fix the leaking issues. I live in South Louisiana and it rains a lot and if I open the door and water pours in that would not be good. Great video thanks
I can understsnd that but even my full hard tops can leak when the water is shooting at the windows sideways. I dont know what to think about that new top. I have torn my bikini tops on trees, that one would suck to have to replace.
Yeah mold and mildew is fun when it was your jeep that inflamed your respiratory system. Got rid of my wrangler soft top. Haven’t had any health issues
You should have put the windshield down and back up before doing this. Then, we could have seen if the new folding windshield reseals where the JK's didn't.
My 2017 JKU doesn't do this at all! We've had some pretty rough rain in Michigan lately and nothing leaks inside when I open up the doors. Outside of the wind blowing water when I'm outside running into the store. After a heavy rainfall and I pull into my garage, I'm all dry! Never heard of this til now 🤔🤔
That water being channeled into the cab is a problem on earlier Jeeps as well. My 2013 Sport soft top has done that exact same thing since day one and it really ticks me off.
I have a 2011 with a hard top and it it still pretty loud but the soft top I wouldn’t have if I had to drive on the highway it is terrible a couple of my friends bought jeeps with soft tops and it was unbelievable how much wind noise there is
The Liberty KK has the sky slider top option that was basically identical to this one. That top option on the Liberty didn’t do well in the hands of time. I’m curious to see how Jeep has improved on this design. It seems that everyone has magically forgotten about this.
I have a 2006 Jeep commander I get random leaks from sunroof , windshield, driver passenger doors , and A pillars . When I get Heavy heavy rains. For the past 12 years other then that I love the truck . Lol
The liberty had a similar retractable roof (sky slider) seems like there was always problems with those. The hard tops always had leak issues plus the previous jeep even had problems with water pouring in when you open the door.
Hard top JKs also have water pour in from the gutters when opening the doors in the rain, its no big deal. I'm sure Jeep made those new controls on the dash waterproof. Sometimes I'll just wipe my hand across the area and rid excess water before opening the door, but I mean your buying a Wrangler, its top or doors will eventually leak anyway. If you don't like it, Jeep offers plenty of other models that won't leak lol.
What kind of wind buffering do you get with the rear side glass panels off, roof open, but rear windshield still in place? Looks like the rear glass can’t be removed.
Ooh, that was one of my biggest concerns. You could sometimes drive it dry but what if you need to open the door now? I guess the old hard top design with RAIN GUTTERS will stay the standard engineering winner. Not a deal breaker, but...
I know this is a 2 year old comment but those people who don't live here don't get it. It rains in the winter. So when the water gets in, the windshield gets fogged up. When you go to start up the car in the morning. It can take FOREVER to see. You need a towel! Or worse is if it freezes- you end up having to scrape the INSIDE of your windshield too. Sure you have a defroster but that can take forever. You want to laugh? Move to the WetCoast, drive a Jeep in the winter, then we'll see who laughs.
I would imagine a lot of dust and fine gritty sand getting stuck in the tracks over time. Then it wouldn’t slide as smoothly. I almost want to make a bet that it will happen and be the most common problem other than the leaking an occasional track jumping off a track and some minor sun fade. They sell window holders from jeep to store those in the rear so the glass is safe I do believe.
For $40,000+, you too can have engineering like this...That second angle is water coming in from inside the trim...is that flow from the gutter? or must be from the inner joints of the PSHT...? I'll stick to my JK for now...
Any tips or thoughts on how well this top handles snow? I'm in Buffalo. I'm wondering if I'm just safer with the hard top, as tempting as the sky one-touch power top is.
Ps i already see an issue. The water leak8ng in from the doors when you open them are getting into the electrical knob on the left hand side. Electrical short circuits are part failure on the driver side is going to be the factor. Also that water will surely rott the floors.
Ok, I think I'm just going to hang on to my good old JKU. While the side panels and power roof are a technological improvement over the old hard and soft top, I have to say: it's a Jeep Wrangler. If I want something with a fancy power roof I buy a BMW. I bought my JKU used (1 year old, 10k miles) and the hard top only came off once - and is still hanging in my garage. I use a soft top all year round because in California that's much easier and there's no severe freezing weather to think of. Yes, all Jeeps leak. That's what the plugs in the bottom are for. If I want a boring car that doesn't leak - again, I buy a BMW. I got into my Jeep with 3 inches of water in the foot-well. Pull the plug - all good. Jeep Wrangler's are a lifestyle, not a statement. No matter how much the Jeep Company wants to turn a JKU into a Land Rover - it's not a Land Rover. They should just embrace what makes a Jeep a Jeep - it's a bit like that venison roast over an open camp fire - no amount of microwave will ever bring back that flavor. Just stick to it for crying out loud.
"A boring car that doesn't leak" "BMW"... I feel like there are plenty of other significantly more boring and affordable brands to make your point here, like Toyota or Nissan. Nonetheless, Jeep has made a livable vehicle with modern technology that both retains on existing off-road prowess AND improves on it, while also making it a much more bearable daily driver. Let people complain, these things will still fly out of dealerships at stupid rates.
I have, although I liked the 420d better (mostly because it's convertible and they did an excellent job on the diesel engine), together with a collection of other fast cars - simply because my uncle was a ralley mechanic and we took the cars on the track for "test drives" :-) Still, the Wrangler is the most fun to drive. Yes, a M3 is much better when it comes to pretty much everything, but it can't go off-road and where I live now the roads are so miserable that I wonder how people can enjoy driving the speed limit in a Porsche or any other sports car (the speed limit here being 65mph - around 100km/h which defies the purpose of having a sports car unless you need it as male enhancement). Plus I rarely have a top on my jeep - which is already at least 1/3 of the fun.
I took a BMW because it's the only convertible I ever had and it had power roof and didn't leak. Yes, I agree, there's a lot of other vehicles that are a lot more boring.
Its would take nothing away from it’s Jeepness to make it not leak. “Like oh my gawd dood! You’re Jeep keeps water OUT!? You totally cannot hang!” Gimme a break. I LOVE Jeeps but this is just sad and lazy. Their marketing has you thinking an absurd deficiency is a feature.
It will be interesting to see what the replacement cost for the roof will be plus labour to install. I'm sure one will be slashed and broken into rather quickly after they hit the streets. Otherwise, neat concept, I'm sure there will a decent market for this. I'd stick to the normal dual top setup myself.
next time on TFL, find out if the 2018 jeep wrangler can do 0 to 60? Or like jeep wrangler vs porsche panemera!!! What is the better buy? Which does roman prefer and why! Plus, a special video from nathan Explaining how put your toyota corolla in drive with its CvT transmissions
#1 Question: How much room does the canvas need to clear at the back of the roof? #2 Question: If you want a Jeep roof rack for a roof top tent; can you still open and close the canvas sun roof?
Chrysler if you are watching this just tip the channel towards the rear of the Jeep. Doesn’t have to be much. I put a piece of putty on the front leading edge of the channel and parked it at a slight incline and it solved the problem. How can I figure this out and your design team cant?? Please explain this.... Please!!!!
Granted this wont help on a day to day basis, but I wonder if you drove up on a 2x4 before doing this if the water would have ran to the back. It's too bad this happens. That is a problem probably because of that kind of top. Does your personal Jeep JK suffer the same problem?
I am considering in buying a Sahara with the One touch power top, however now I am concerned, since I don’t have a garage, I just park in my driveway, also I am in Canada in a province where the snow and raining seasons are much longer that the dry Season, I am wondering where I can see the most updated review about Onetouch power top, any advise will be greatly appreciated.
My question is how water resistant is the instrument cluster and the Nav screen? Where I live it rains at random times and if the top is left down am I going to walk out and have a brick for a Jeep due to water shorting it out?
I just bought a 2022 Jeep Sahara with the one touch power roof and its leaking the first week. Ran it through a car wash fine. First big rain and its leaking in the front driver side.. more so when I brake. leak.. its pouring actually. Did not have the first tank of gas through it. :(
Yo, Roman, my Gangsta. Can you take the car up to Washington mountains area and see how freezing temperatures/ expansion due to ice formation affects the soft top? will it cause the "seal" to rise? will it potentially cause cracks in the top if there is a layer of frozen white goodness on top? how will it affect travel in the rails? Thanks again my Rangsta (Roman Gansta)!
That's why you never buy the first couple years of a new model. They need time and real world feedback to fix all the small things that they missed; like the water/door issue. 2018 JKUR and loving it. No water leaks when I open the door after a car wash.
I'm interested in knowing how well the sky one touch power top insulates the jeep in cold weather and if you think it's viable for winters in places like Minnesota (where we often have temps in the winter that drop below zero)
ah no... post wash what dripping inside the car... no solution from the Jeep on this? i think i am not going for it... thanks for the clip and details... really appreciate it..
I have a Range Rover, and when I open the doors when it rains, water goes into the controls, and I think all cars regardless or brand get wet when you open the doors, whats the big deal.Either dry the car before you open the doors after washing,or don't drive in the rain or enter through the tail gate. Just trying to help.
Well, getting a Wrangler is all about being one with the elements. They are designed to get wet inside and out. I can see how the dripping will cause a little frustration for the uninitiated but a diehard Wrangler fan will just shrug and wipe it off. Good video though.
I have a 2010 Wrangler 2-door, and the water runs in at that same spot at the door. I would have thought Jeep would have fixed that in the last 8-9 years. That is kind of disappointing. It really just needs the water routed elsewhere...like down the outside of the door (towards the engine) or around to the windshield. Seems like an easy fix.
I've had a hard top jeep for the past 6 years and that water coming in from the open door is a common problem on all jeeps. It has to do with the top corner of the roof that connects to the door. Definitely not a problem caused by that specific top.
As with the previous hard top, can you take the entire roof and back window sections off, or does the weaker structure of the fabric top eliminate that possibility?
I believe Jeep has said you can remove the entire powered soft top roof, but they actually dont recommend it. It requires a fairly precise alignment to get everything working again, and would be difficult for the average owner. If you want to take the roof off completely, stick to the standard soft top or freedom top
how do you take the roof off with this piece? can you remove the one touch roof part or does it have to stay on the jeep? i have this option but might get rid of it if you cant remove it completely
I was playing on the Jeep JL configurator today... those ugly wheels are a $895 option! AND, if you add in the Limited Slip rear diff, Jeep forces you to buy them!
K J Like the JK, There are two different 18" designs for the Sahara, the standard ones, and the optional, upgraded ones that are on this one. Check out the Jeep site.
K J gotcha. Yeah, the Rubi wheels are ok, the Sport wheels are meh, and both Sahara wheels are ugly. JK Sahara wheels are ugly too, it's too bad Jeep has such a hard time designing a good looking wheel for anything other than a Rubi.
Thanks for watching! You can also watch how the new Wrangler's soft top and windshield folds down here: ruclips.net/video/Q_nyjNS_Lb8/видео.html
MR. SHERVIN DELANO SMITH Age 1-42!
how about a Mechanical Drive thru car wash
Does it leak now???
Jan/2025
A leaking Jeep roof is a feature not a glitch .
Second Creek Workshop 😂😂😂😂😂
Lool
Ahh, a fellow software developer?
Must be a Jeep thing
I keep reading these Jeeps, regardless of minor flaws, have great re-sale value unlike other cars & trucks !
That’s the rain water collection feature, so when you go camping and don’t bring enough water.
So happy I saw this! Almost got the one touch but think I’ll stick with the hard top.
I love the new improvements on these jeeps. I thought we would never see these modern features! Can’t wait to see how it hold up to the test of time! Another great video and review! Informative and entertaining as always.
Yeah, they're a sad decline to what the car stands for.
Test it again. This time, leave it parked in a heavy rainstorm for a few hours and let me know how it goes lol
Love your honest no-holds-barred reviews.
This rooftop design is similar to the sliding rooftops that were offered on some Jeep Liberty KKs. Looking at those should somewhat show how this sliding part will hold up over time
Exactly...this is not new!
The most recent use in an FCA vehicle is the one of Fiat 500C, sourced by Magna Closures since 2009.
Wow thats alotta water coming inside with the door open.
Unacceptable on $40k plus vehicle.
Maybe dont take the time to drain complety
I have the 2019 JLU and for $50k, it’s insane that they were okay with this. It streams inside and onto both driver and passenger.
Whenever I am in the rain, and I open the door it is typical for the rain to come in.
This was great!
But it wasn't "raining" when he opened the door, that was his point. The gutter system doesn't protrude far enough forward because they redesigned the windshield so you could flop it on the hood in 5min.

Vhey, even the hard-top on my JK leaks a bit of water into the cabin when you open the doors, so I guess it's a Jeep thing and most of us put-up with a bit of rough around the edges.
Exactly Stone Marten. Nice clean water getting in is much more welcome than all the mud that has to be cleaned out :)
The water leaks come standard on the Wranglers.
Awesome that you guys are thinking of and testing and for real world issues. ..and no Nathan, bonus! Thumbs up for that!

My experience with switchgear is quite good when it comes to moisture. Old toggle switches continued to work after repeated moisture/dry cycles. I had problems with old wiring looms/insulation and routing.

The Skyslider top was bad. Thats why they discontinued it. This top looks similar and thats not a good thing.
can you do a video at night with the exterior lights showing? I really want to see how the new lights (especially headlights) actually look.
Stay tuned
awesome, thanks in advance!
You the man, Roman!

cars used to have a drip edge over the door but, maybe to save cost or aerodynamics in the wind tunnel for mpg, it's pretty common for rain to run down into the vehicle. when i first bought my taco and had to open my window during the rain, it wasn't the rain coming in the window that was the issue. it was the waterfall off the roof pouring in that surprised me. vent visors can help with at least the first few inches of open window. no vehicle avoids water coming in entirely if you open the door outside during the rain.
Here's an idea: make those removable backside panels identical and add two more on the hard top.
They already said the interior is 100% water proof so it doesn’t matter
Flyy Mal regardless, there would be hard water stains on the dash. They suck.
Having jeeps for years ... who cares, its a jeep they get water inside. .
scottyo64 just sucks to pay all that money and deal with it every time it rains. Not a huge deal, just annoying.
BFD. My 98 Wrangler soft top doesn't leak in a car wash. I hope 20 years later they can accomplish the same.
You should have put the windshield down and back up before doing this. Then, we could have seen if the new folding windshield reseals where the JK's didn't.
My 2017 JKU doesn't do this at all! We've had some pretty rough rain in Michigan lately and nothing leaks inside when I open up the doors. Road noise (db) is what id like to know at 30, 50 and 70 mph
iVlog loud
Lol
I have a 2011 with a hard top and it it still pretty loud but the soft top I wouldn’t have if I had to drive on the highway it is terrible a couple of my friends bought jeeps with soft tops and it was unbelievable how much wind noise there is
It's going to be terrible like most jeeps
iVlogBuzz not very noticeable at 40 and below but once you hit 50 it gets noticeably loud source: I just got a 2018 fully loaded rubicon
Good stuff guys always enjoy watching your reviews on vehicles.
The Liberty KK has the sky slider top option that was basically identical to this one. That top option on the Liberty didn’t do well in the hands of time. I’m curious to see how Jeep has improved on this design. It seems that everyone has magically forgotten about this.

take it through an auto wash?
The liberty had a similar retractable roof (sky slider) seems like there was always problems with those. The hard tops always had leak issues plus the previous jeep even had problems with water pouring in when you open the door.
The A pillar has been rounded to reduce wind noise in exchange for the rainy day dashboard spritz.
Roman..I am impressed...listening to a little Black Sabbath on the radio!...keep the JL vids coming
Hard top JKs also have water pour in from the gutters when opening the doors in the rain, its no big deal. I'm sure Jeep made those new controls on the dash waterproof. Connor James I drilled hole in the gutter so water do not stay!
What kind of wind buffering do you get with the rear side glass panels off, roof open, but rear windshield still in place? Looks like the rear glass can’t be removed.
Ryan Osborn I have the same question. Assuming you detach wiring to remove?
Matt Clegg the windshield can be folded down resting on the hood.
lucyferina thanks. I was referring to the rear window.
Really makes you wonder how much testing they really do on these things...
The engineer's do millions of computer analyst testing no field testing
Ooh, that was one of my biggest concerns. You could sometimes drive it dry but what if you need to open the door now? I guess the old hard top design with RAIN GUTTERS will stay the standard engineering winner. Not a deal breaker, but...
I would not be happy with all that water leaking all over my controls like that. Here in the Northwest that would be a big concern.
I can see the electrical short recalls already lol
Maybe, Jeep usually puts a good emphasis on the dash and interior being able to be literally hosed down though so you’d think it would be fine
I'm lolling too
Waterproof controls
I know this is a 2 year old comment but those people who don't live here don't get it. It rains in the winter. So when the water gets in, the windshield gets fogged up. its been years and how has it been as of now? any water leaks or how about a heave snow day? and when the snow melts?
I wonder if the seals around the removable panels will hold up after several years.
Alexis Guy they don't on the jk 😂
Mike M yeah that's what I figured
Any tips or thoughts on how well this top handles snow? I'm in Buffalo. I'm wondering if I'm just safer with the hard top, as tempting as the sky one-touch power top is.

does it have locking glove box and center console? also any lockable trunk storage area?
Yes, all of it
What happens when you get dirt, sand, etc in the tracks from off roading with the top down? Will it still work right or is it going to start grinding?
I have a hardtop JL. The water from the gutter drains down that same way too.
I GUARANTEE you that after 3-5 years, when people start buying these used Jeeps, the seals and gaskets will be worn, and it absolutely will leak!
mathew mann :(
Yes it will probably before that but idiots will buy them
Great find guys. Keep up the great work
I order mine can't freaking wait to have it !!!!

#1 Question: How much room does the canvas need to clear at the back of the roof? #2 Question: If you want a Jeep roof rack for a roof top tent; can you still open and close the canvas sun roof?
Thats a good question on the roof rack actually, and depending on the brand its possible.
+1 on roof rack question. need links too
I'm sure all the manufacturers of aftermarket Jeep parts are already designing roof racks and other parts to fit the new JL.
Hope it works better than the Liberty with the retractable roof, they seem to have constant issues
Thanks for testing this out!
Chrysler if you are watching this just tip the channel towards the rear of the Jeep. Doesn’t have to be much. Yeah a power top is such an innovative feature... Peugeot had a power retractable top in 1934, even Chrysler had it in 1941.
Does the water come through the door like this on regular hard tops on the JL too?
2:25 Mmm, that door closing sounded NICE!
How noisey is the rag top at 75 mph on the highway... I changed to a hard top because of the noise but I do like the idea of the slider top...
My question is how water resistant is the instrument cluster and the Nav screen? Where I live it rains at random times and if the top is left down am I going to walk out and have a brick for a Jeep due to water shorting it out?
It only needed to be a tad smaller, to become an reincarnated jeep XJ. Love the roof rain gutters.
Nice Video! Great job! People ask me all the time, "Does your soft top leak?" ... Answer: It's a jeep .... lol
I just bought a 2022 Jeep Sahara with the one touch power roof and its leaking the first week. Ran it through a car wash fine. First big rain and its leaking in the front driver side.. more so when I brake. leak.. its pouring actually. Did not have the first tank of gas through it. :(
My next vehicle but waiting for 2019 model year:)
Since the interior is supposedly waterproof, are there any drain plugs in the floor? I'm sure you won't hose down the interior in your press car.
Jeep says you can hose off the inside and everything will still work. You guys should test that.
I'm interested in knowing how well the sky one touch power top insulates the jeep in cold weather and if you think it's viable for winters in places like Minnesota (where we often have temps in the winter that drop below zero)
Probably the same as the standard soft top in my opinion.
Do they offer just a moon sun roof like everyone else? I can see this would be a problem down the line
ah no... post wash what dripping inside the car... no solution from the Jeep on this? i think i am not going for it... thanks for the clip and details... really appreciate it..
Can you completely remove the top and put a soft top if you want on
I like that you had Ozzy's Boneyard on the stereo!!
When does the new Jeep Wrangler diesel come out for sale?
Hey, mate. thanks for your video, just want to find out, is there any other issue until now?
It’s supposed to snow tomorrow. Maybe you can do some snow wheeling.
Hey can you guys check if the rear seat have any recline adjustment? My 2014 jkur the rear rears are just too straight...
It does, but I don't know how much.
You can get a cheap kit of plastic pucks to recline your JK rear seats nicely
Hey love your videos! Still debating which option to go with. I have a question? Can it use standard roof cross bars on the sliding roof?
How does the panoramic top compare road-noise wise with the hardtop and the new softop?
When is the piggy back chip mods for the 2.0l engine be available?
Hey Roman can you remove the back tailgate glass as well?
Nice Video, Thanks!!
Will removable rear quarter windows be available on 2 door Rubicon models?
what was jeeps answer to the water coming in ? they still don't have it ready to sale, you cant order one its now July
When driving a manual 6 speed transmission, does it feel like a truck or does it feel like a car when shifting gears ?
Could you possibly answer does the rear window come off? Or is it just the two side panels?
Any updates on this segment and have they made any improvements?
I have went Jeeps build. The option I can not find. When do you think this will be an option?
how do you take the roof off with this piece? can you remove the one touch roof part or does it have to stay on the jeep? i have this option but might get rid of it if you cant remove it completely
I cant wait for it to go on sale already!
