I obviously have not driven it, but it honestly seems light years ahead of the current one. I can think of some improvements still but in the end no matter what it sounds way too expensive. That's most vehicles now a days though :'(
Thank you for making this video guys! I've been searching for something more in depth since this Jeep was released and this covers everything I wanted to know.
YES !!! Part 2 next week please !!! "Can't wait!! .... Please probe FCA for more in-depth details on the ANC and its effectiveness. If you say that the JL is already a lot quieter than the JK ... Then how much quieter would an ANC equipped JL be ?? I know, it may sound like a frivolous detail, but it'd make a big difference for those of us for whom the JK is a daily driver & put on a lot of highway miles or are regularly stuck in city traffic.
Well, I don’t make 100K plus so I’m either not going to be a JL buyer or I better start buying lottery tickets. 😉 I’ll probably just wait until a few used ones become available. Great job, guys. Nice Christmas present from you!
What made the mustang and other muscle cars such a fantastic hit? They looked great, ran like a wildcat, but most of all they were affordable to the youth market, and most anyone else. Don’t mess up a good thing by overpricing so many out of the game.
Hey guys thanks for all the great info, I've already used "build and price" to configure a new Rubicon. I do wish there was an option for painted dash panels to match exterior colors.
Wish you guys did more close ups. I feel like I saw most of this from the auto show. The new door detents on video n how to remove them when removing doors. Engine bay close ups, frame rails, soft touch dash, what did the owners manual say about those windows for storage,
Some of these new features are nice but they’re going to make it a pain to modify. Like what you guys said about the rear bumper. Also what about the fenders since they put the turn signal in them, and the backup camera once you get different rims?
At 38, you probably cannot have auto up due to safety. I remember some shows a while ago that showed that rising windows have cut children fingers and even killed some children back when they were just rocker switches. That forced auto manufacturers to make window switches into a push- pull switch, and I bet that it also prevents auto-up from becoming a thing.
Auto down and not up totally makes zero sense! I’m in Long Island, NY. Hoping that the the crosswinds of the Northeast are nothing compared to the Rockies/Wyoming areas of the US, because I ordered my 2018 JLU Sahara Turbo w/ the sky one-touch already :/
Y'all talk about the noise, but what is your frame of reference for measuring those? I drive a pretty well worn '03 F-150 and a liter bike so "noisy" is a pretty skewed metric for me. On a scale of 1-10, what would you rate the wind, tire noise, and general driving noise and what you are using as your reference at 1 and 10?
I want a new Wrangler Rubicon. I think I'm going to wait for the diesel, but I have a question: If the diesel is going to have over 400 lb.ft of torque, are they going to have different crawl ratio for the transfer case? I would expect the diesel to have a different torque curve than the 2.0L. The gear reduction in the transfer case is quite high (over 80 with the rear differential) to get in the sweet spot of the engine torque curve. I would expect the torque to be much lower in the diesel rpm range. Do you think they will change the crawl ratio for the diesel?
I had the expectation that this would be a Q&A session and not Roman talking away all the time, ignoring Tommy and Andreij trying to answer viewer questions? Thanks though for making this available folks!
57:26 Is it just me, or does the fuel tank look like it hangs a LOT lower on the JL than it does on the JK? That would be a bit of a concern for me off roading....
Will someone please take a heavy trailer out for a test with this Jeep? I have a two tonne caravan and my current jk unlimited has a terrible turning circle.
People are asking, AutoPlay: "That's more your area Tommy" Backseats: "Andre, you're tall" "My Doctor says, I am almost 6 3" Bwah ha ha. You guys are great. Love the comrodairy Thanks Guys.
I would like to know why in the hell is Jeep making a 2018 JK when they cannot even sell all the 2017 JK jeeps? why is it not just the 2018 JL being made? i think Jeep made a mistake there. if i was out looking for a new Jeep i would not buy the old Jeep i would want the newest one out which you cannot get yet. I enjoy watching your videos.
#1 Question: On the 1 Button Canvas Panoramic Roof: How much extra height does the canvas need to clear at the back of the roof? #2 Question: If you want a Jeep roof rack for a roof top tent; can you still open and close the canvas sun roof?
While I am not sure about the dimensions, I am sure that aftermarket companies are going to get all these specs and answers in order to design roof racks for the JL. It just may take some time :/
There are a lot of good things I like about the JL. But then, there are heaps of things i like about my jk that I like more. I like that if I break a light, I just replace the light and I can do it myself. Or mirrors... simple basic mirror that is cheap to fix. All good things for off road vehicles... but if I bust a mirror, or some other tech filled light housing, it will cost a bomb to fix.
2 cents here: Fixed my JK hood flutter issues with replacement stronger rubber parts (Daystar I think). Yes it was aftermarket but they were under $20 rather than a whole new hood latch. Also turn signals should have stayed below headlamps; if truly "historic" then that was the original style and CJ method. Finally, I wish there was a a NASCAR '1941' sponsor-delete option... I don't need to see Wrangler/1941 on the gear shift and window and Oh Sht Bar and dash screen and wheels and windscreen and...
Does anyone know if the power top will be available on the 2-door as well? Because I saw the new softtop and the new full folddown is by no means 'full'. There's simply a parachute of fabric blocking the view to the rear and with the zippered rear window gone, it seems difficult to access the cargo. So power top option might come to the rescue here...?
Absolutely. I'm super stoked on the JL and it shows they've given the machine a lot of thought. A nice design true to it's roots while preparing for a greener future with a bit more aerodynamic shape, 2L engine and hybrid integration, and a realistic view on the their market: the electronic gizmo might not be necessary in the vehicle, but seems to be necessary in today's market to keep selling. Jeeps shows to have listened to real life customer feedback about the JK (f.e. hood flutter, headlights, interior materials) and anticipating common mods by allowing them out of the box (such as the extra room to fit 35's and the adjustable breaklight; that's just class to integrate future possible mods into your current design). Now, why overlook something so crucial as the useability of the cargo area with the softtop? And how dreadful that folded down softtop looks (and most likely drives...). Sure, taking the windows out is much faster now, but I really hope that it is me overlooking somehting here instead of them.... Time will tell.
Sure but the majority of lifted JK's aren't on longarms - I'd go as far as to say probably less than 10%. You don't have to have longarms for a quality lift. Unless you are running 38"s or so a longarm is actually going to be worse than a short arm lift offroad. If the JL will fit 35's from the factory, most people probably aren't going to look at longarms until they are running 40's and by then you aren't going to be using the factory axles anyway. I'm running a Clayton's Offroad setup on my JK and I've got maybe $3K in the suspension (with hydraulic bumpstops) and it drives wonderfully.
When i heard you said that Jeep said that most jeep buyers are 100k people I almost cry, we average 50k income guys are screw? Good thing I like the 2 door better, so just going 2 door and basic rubicon I might be able to afford in about 2 years. Manual trans for me and since it's a 2 door a don't need power windows or locks, also no hard top. In others words how cheap can you get a 2 door rubicon?
He says that the Wrangler was a Wrangler was a Wrangler, but "NOW" there are three distinct models.... That is the way it has been for a while, not something new. Sport -> entry level, Sahara -> more luxury, Rubicon -> serious off-road. Not sure his point here. What they have actually done is completely gimped the Sport while raising its price. It is no longer an entry level vehicle - far too expensive or entry level, and it is not a good proposition for the price.
The pros of the pentastar is that the power is available at the lower end of the RPM range. The horsepower is at a much higher RPM range for the 2.0L. Now since the 2.0L is a mild-hybrid, it does get an assist from the electric generator at lower RPMs to help with power there, but that is only an assist.
No, the freedom top is like the JK, and it comes off in one piece. the removable hard window is only on the power top. the soft top has zipperless removable rear window.
Earthling1984 It's actually a very good deal for a Wrangler because they hold their value so well. I've been looking for a used Wrangler and have been unable to find any with low mileage much under new price, which is about $32k give or take for a JKU Sport S.
Wrong. I've been looking for months on multiple sources including autotrader, cars.com and craiglist, no such thing at least in my area. They are all high $20s or low $30s unless they have high mileage in the 100k range.
Mopar also offers these cool tube steel doors you can see on the green accessorized JL Rubicon (easy to find on RUclips). They give you the same doors-off feeling, you can see through them, but they offer a decent amount of protection.
I went by my local ford dealer for service on my SHO. I had some time to kill so I did a walk around checking out the vehicles on offer. After looking at a $70,000 Raptor market up $10,000 for market adjustment to $80,000 and seeing escapes that cost 38K, I no longer am going to bitch about the price of the Wrangler.
Come on Roman u say u r a jeep expert and u don't know the 3.6 is now variable lift! Not just vvt but vvl! It's been a grand Cherokee for 2yrs!! That's where the mpg comes from.

One thing I could not find is a review of the Jeep Wrangler on during city and highway driving! Only 10% of Wranglers especially a brand new model go rock climbing and go up and down sloped terrain, etc.... Most are driven as daily drivers! No such review yet! LOL!
$65,000-$70,000 for a Rubicon. Expensive? Yes. Just wait til the diesel engine comes out. With high demand and dealer markup, expect to see close to $80K. And like always, there will be a wait list for those. Demand demand.
Probably up to a certain depth. I wouldnt say you could put a jeep under 10 feet of water for an hour, the pressure would probably be too much for the waterproof sealing. But if you got it up to the dash for a minute or so, you should be fine.
They are expecting wrangler buyers to average 100k income per year? That’s insulting to the middle class to whom a Jeep should be affordable. These are overpriced period.
It is what it is. Better quality, more bells and whistles the more expensive. If you don’t want to work hard and save the money then buy a cheap stripped down model or wait a few years and buy a used one. Or do the work and make the kind of sacrifices it takes to earn that kind of salary. But stop whining and crying about how you can’t afford one!
I thought the new jeep would be a minor update, but I have to say the new one looks like a HUGE improvement.
I obviously have not driven it, but it honestly seems light years ahead of the current one. I can think of some improvements still but in the end no matter what it sounds way too expensive. That's most vehicles now a days though :'(
TFL is quickly becoming one of my favorite RUclips channels. Keep up the great work guys! I love the reviews.
Thank you for making this video guys! I've been searching for something more in depth since this Jeep was released and this covers everything I wanted to know.
Thumbs up TOMMY ! ... You got a great kid there Roman ...God bless and happy holidays from 1/2 across the globe.

Thanks, I know that was harder than it looked on youtube. I liked and enjoyed it also!
A lot of nice touches. I like the spanner kit, even if it's only used to update the wiper.
Think adding your son was awesome Trucks cars and kids Perfect... Plus he does a great job... Merry x-mas all of you Thanks for the great videos
Well, I don’t make 100K plus so I’m either not going to be a JL buyer or I better start buying lottery tickets. 😉 I’ll probably just wait until a few used ones become available.

That jeep spec'd less the power sliding top is still 47K not 40K A loaded up Sport S was 43K
I receive my 18 white Rubi can't wait I'm been watching your channel for a while I'm a big fan
I'm been a jeep guy for over 10 years #JeepMob
Hey guys thanks for all the great info, I've already used "build and price" to configure a new Rubicon. I do wish there was an option for painted dash panels to match exterior colors.
The doors also now have a mid open and full open locking feature rather than being kinda free flowing on the JK.
Wish you guys did more close ups. I feel like I saw most of this from the auto show. The new door detents on video n how to remove them when removing doors. Engine bay close ups, frame rails, soft touch dash, what did the owners manual say about those windows for storage,
Good job explaining in detail guys.
Cool cup holder above the Info Plaque on the tailgate!!
Thanks guys for the video you guys are awesome
Was told by a dealership that the tailgate hinges can support 35" tires.
Some of these new features are nice but they’re going to make it a pain to modify. Like what you guys said about the rear bumper. Also what about the fenders since they put the turn signal in them, and the backup camera once you get different rims?

my F-150 has auto up and auto down on the front windows, but not the back...maybe those kids in the back should be in a car seat?
Roman doing a good Mr. Truck impression at 47:51!
Alt nation is my favorite xm channel!
Dear Roman , please talk about the audio system ; seems like there is no CD player ?
Great Show, thanks!
Your reviews are awesome!

Did they fix the leaking problems with the roof and doors and cowling?

No video has mentioned the rear fog lights under the spare tire. Will there be an option to active one or both ?
One word...... Ecodiesel. Coming in 2019.... can't wait!
On the movable top can you stop it from going all the way back or is it a full open and close system thx.
Grille inserts - already installed by factory? Some people like to install the hood lock, which won't be possible now. or am I missing something? Thx
I seen also there is an option for theft recovery system how does that work is it a police detection like a lojack?

theses guys are very very excited
I wonder if the new halogens are better than the old ones. They look bigger so I hope so.
Good video man

Good point about the rear cargo access with the soft top. A bit of a disappointing realization since the soft top is the one I would buy.
Absolutely. I'm super stoked on the JL and it shows they've given the machine a lot of thought. "a nice not quite basic lift is $5-7000?" WTF do you guys get your lifts from? a great lift is maybe $2k
Bob Lionel if you want a really good 4.5 inch long arm kit with shocks and new control arms/break lines included it can definitely go up to 5k easy
Sure but the majority of lifted JK's aren't on longarms - I'd go as far as to say probably less than 10%. You don't have to have longarms for a quality lift. so they added the a start/stop button and let's say someone wants to take off the roof and doors can someone just get it and take off with the car?
That's what the key is for....?
You have to wait for 2020 for PHEV on the Jeep Wrangler.
Any data on the magnesium tailgate? Particularly fire safety?
resolute 123 what do you mean?
Very good, through review.
Its so gassy in there!!
That fart was epic!
When i heard you said that Jeep said that most jeep buyers are 100k people I almost cry, we average 50k income guys are screw? They should have left the turn signal under the headlight.
These engines confuse me.... i like the v6 but the 4 cyl has more torque, better mpg and same hp? Whats the pros of the pentastar?
The pros of the pentastar is that the power is available at the lower end of the RPM range. The horsepower is at a much higher RPM range for the 2.0L. Now since the 2.0L is a mild-hybrid, it does get an assist from the electric generator at lower RPMs to help with power there, but that is only an assist.
I do not like the rear camera in the center of the spare - makes in tough for a spare cover or bike rack or Trasharoo
That's a good point, a lot of people who like spare tire covers are doing to be shit out of luck
Does the JL have a reverse lock out ring on the manual gear stick?
I believe so. There appears to be a red ring below the handle on the shifter, but I have yet to see if that is indeed the reverse lock out ring
how do you add a roof rack to the power top?
the older guy reminds me of Ray from TPBs!
On jeeps website ,the 2.0 engine is not available yet ?
hurrican mec Spring, 2018
Anthony C thanks
Are the bumpers on the Sahara JL Metal or plastic
Tom Purcell I think it’s plastic
FYI Romain, the future is right behind u!
Can you take off side windows with freedom top?
No, the freedom top is like the JK, and it comes off in one piece. the removable hard window is only on the power top. the soft top has zipperless removable rear window.
A 4 door sport s with basic upgrades costs about $40k. That's ridiculous. You can get some nice luxury vehicles for that price.
Son37Lumiere 😳 I bought a lightly used 2013 Sport S for $25,000. I guess I got the deal of the decade!
Sherrybization B That's expensive actually if you got it in 2017. 4 years old should be less.
Earthling1984
It's actually a very good deal for a Wrangler because they hold their value so well. I've been looking for a used Wrangler and have been unable to find any with low mileage much under new price, which is about $32k give or take for a JKU Sport S.
Son37Lumiere Hmm, guess you didn't look very hard. Quick search and I found many.
Wrong. I've been looking for months on multiple sources including autotrader, cars.com and craiglist, no such thing at least in my area. They are all high $20s or low $30s unless they have high mileage in the 100k range.
can it tow say a boat or two place snowmobile trailer???
I’m gonna wait for the diesel this color
Average buyer makes over 100k?? No wonder they keep upscaling these things, I'll stick to my Xterra I guess.
Why didn't u show the suspension?! Why weren't u prepared to look underneath? Looking at the axle was a joke.
I wonder what the European price will be
With VAT, probably around 100,000 Euro :0)
That removable top perfect for those gassy days
Are they still going to have half doors ?
Yes, those are available for order straight from Jeep themselves. You can also wait for aftermarket support.
Thanks for reply
Mopar also offers these cool tube steel doors you can see on the green accessorized JL Rubicon (easy to find on RUclips). They give you the same doors-off feeling, you can see through them, but they offer a decent amount of protection.
Thanks I will check it out
Watching this on my way to a jeep dealership lol
I went by my local ford dealer for service on my SHO. I had some time to kill so I did a walk around checking out the vehicles on offer. After looking at a $70,000 Raptor market up $10,000 for market adjustment to $80,000 and seeing escapes that cost 38K, I no longer am going to bitch about the price of the Wrangler.
Come on Roman u say u r a jeep expert and u don't know the 3.6 is now variable lift! Not just vvt but vvl! It's been a grand Cherokee for 2yrs!! That's where the mpg comes from.
Also it now has an EGR system, and after 5 years of real world use, has a better ECM system I'm sure.
really enjoy the father son duo vids. but jr. is a little too loud for the camera mic. turn the volume for him down a bit or just lower your voice. do not change the attitude and enthusiasm and the way you come across to us viewers. it's just that my little speakers on my pc distort and makes my face cringe. other than that keep up the damn good work. suuuubd!
I want one!
One thing I could not find is a review of the Jeep Wrangler on during city and highway driving! Only 10% of Wranglers especially a brand new model go rock climbing and go up and down sloped terrain, etc.... Most are driven as daily drivers! No such review yet! LOL!
Lol well everything you said just made sure that I will keep my JK for as long as possible
Joseph Godin keep it, no one cares ..
$65,000-$70,000 for a Rubicon. Expensive? Yes. Just wait til the diesel engine comes out. With high demand and dealer markup, expect to see close to $80K. And like always, there will be a wait list for those. Demand demand.
WorldDweller ///. $$$$$
lol the hummer banner in the jeep vid. c'mon guys hahaha
Im dreaming of a 6spd man w/8cyl
Does it have Heated seats .
My question was answered + yes it does
Will the 3.0L diesel be available with a manual transmission?
Tommy seems aggravated
I would buy one if they made one with roof rails so i can carry my kayak.
You say the electronics on the inside are waterproof. But how waterproof? Will they survive being submerged?
He likely meant to say, water-resistant.....not waterproof.
Probably up to a certain depth. I wouldnt say you could put a jeep under 10 feet of water for an hour, the pressure would probably be too much for the waterproof sealing. But if you got it up to the dash for a minute or so, you should be fine.
Sounds like the new led lights are bad news. I don’t want to deal with cars flashing their brights at me all night long.
Switch 'm off and you can continue cruising in the dark, just like you could with the stock JK lights. Problem solved.
NemeanLion I drive a transit bus bus with LEDs mounted low and the problem is rampant. 🙄
New Chrysler transmission? Run Forest, run.
Wtf how have they got doors that can stay open on a wrangler
You can't put your hand in the door handle and push the button. Hand out, just push the button.
Plug TFL a few more times. PFFT.
I Wish they would put a Hydraulic power steering in a jeep with a regular huge sunroof & removable sliding rear windows# Poor Man G wagon
They are expecting wrangler buyers to average 100k income per year? That’s insulting to the middle class to whom a Jeep should be affordable. These are overpriced period.
Relax. Trump is fixing that too !
elli003 lol. The only thing that guy fixed was a cheeseburger. Lol.
griebz lol. That doesn’t even make sense. Spoken like a true trumpian. Lol.
The Rubi is $10k more expensive than a similarly equipped zr2. I think I'll get the Rubicon lol.
awe the son is so cute
Sorry, but Jeep is pricing themselves out my budget. If I can get a fully loaded Toyota 4 Runner TRD Pro for $47,000 I have to seriously consider it.
