  • After many upgrades over the last 6 months or more we are exited to share a brief tour of our sim.
    This sim will be featured in our World Flight stream this coming November.
    We do ask that you please keep in mind there is still plenty of work that still needs to be done in the sim. We just wanted to share our excitement and progress with you.
    Reminder, this video along with others are simply test videos until advised otherwise.
    There are still some issues we are trying to sort out such as the soft edge blending of our visual screen amongst a bunch of other things.
    I ask that you please don’t ask questions pertaining to why things aren’t working or why does the screen look strange etc. Please take this moment to enjoy the sim tour.
    Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks.
    For more information on the sim about software, hardware etc… head over to my website:
    flywithrookie....
    For your very own sim like ours or even better please head over to my good friend at Flight Deck Solutions and let them know FlyWithRookie sent you.

    The thing that makes a sim like this so realistic is the amount of light that enters the cockpit, and its outstanding. What screens did you use? They must be 1000+ nits!!

    • @gregson99
      @gregson99 2 года назад +25

      think he was shooting in low light settings as everything looks a little hazy and slow shutter speed

    • @flaps4038

    • @hepphepps8356
      @hepphepps8356 2 года назад +3

      How could you tell if your screen is less than 1000 nits.
      This is fallacy, like the ones that think they can compare how loud different aircraft are on youtube.

    • @keelanmccarthy5291
      @keelanmccarthy5291 2 года назад +1

      My guess would be a Samsung Odyssey G95T Monitor or similar, those have 1000+ and HDR. They’re 49 inch curved monitors.

    • @csebal
      @csebal 2 года назад +15

      I think he is using a projector there, possibly more than one. Either that, or HUGE screens and frankly, those would be prohibitively expensive even for a project like this, plus you should be seeing the seams where the screens meet. Even with debezelled displays, there is always a noticeable stripe where screens meet.
      Anyway, I think 2-3 projectors could easily yield the required brightness. Let's not forget, that this is a snowy scene, lots of white light to scatter from the canvas he is projecting onto.
      As I was looking for seams, there is a brighter area on the left and right of the front canvas, that is I believe where the projected pictures overlap a bit.
      A projector would also explain the somewhat "hazy", low detail look. Even a pretty high resolution projector picture can appear blurry when blown up to wall size and looked up from up close, which I think is happening here to give you the immersion of fully engulfing the view from the windows.
      Nonetheless, despite its potential shortcomings, I am sure that everything put together allows for a pretty awesome, immersive experience. As I said in my earlier comment:
      Time + Money + Obsession can make for great nerd-caves :P Would I have a bigger home, I would probably have something similar built for myself too :P Alas I live in the city where you simply do not have the real estate space for projects like this.

    • @scottmcdonaldAAL211
      @scottmcdonaldAAL211 2 года назад

      for about 100K USD you too can live the dream! The projection views are the only 'downer', 4K display QLEDs run rings around projectors IMHO, but as yet MSFS does not natively support multiple views. Sim burnout is a real thing though, eventually, even with something on this level you may be subject to 'burning out', that is, you get tired of flying sims. Even real world pilots get tired of 'driving the bus'. Resale is an issue with these monstrous sims. They are NOT simple to deconstruct and move, the wiring and hardware connections 'hidden behind the panels' is NO can of corn. The 'wow factor' of hardware sim at this level is very high though. It blows away the 'average' home sim cockpit, and it should, for what it costs. Setting one up, even if money is no object, is a challenge.

    ❓Very impressive my man. So the big question is how much did all this cost? Curious minds want to know… The business man side of me says, gee, franchise it for rent.

    Is this a home made Sim???? Or a normal Simulator you find with airliners and flightschools with the difference that this simulator uses FL2020 Graphics?
    Otherwise how do you get ALL of the displays buttons controlls EVERYTHING for a HOME Made Simulator. I know some cool Simulator stuff is on the market but just every piece that is as next level as it can be. Than you beat with FL2020 Graphics every professional Training Simulator..

    My question is: Why put in all that money and effort to build a cockpit for a type of aircraft that only requires actual piloting for take off and landing (sometimes)? For the money spent, wouldn't a STOL bush plane mounted on a 6 DOF motion platform off be far more entertaining? Commercial flights are boring and the scenery never changes.

    HOW do you even begin to hook up ALL those buttons and switches for 'gameplay' ('sim-play'?!)... ???
    Like, are they actually bought from somewhere that specialises in flight simulator controls? 🤔 And then just plugged into a computer? Or do you wire up all that stuff by yourself? 🤔
    Sorry if I'm asking stupid, dumbass questions but I'm absolutely and completely ignorant to this highly detailed niche! (As well as being utterly blown away!) 😲😯😮

    Nothing against your effort, really well done. But your sim gives me the same virtual feeling as the plane does… cramped, uncomfortable, stifled. Worst cockpit I’ve ever flown.

    Woah this must cost a lot I’m building a cockpit similar to yours just don’t know where to buy the stuff from I have found 1 or 2 sites selling a small autopilot panel for about £2000 (or maybe $2000 I’m always in the UK or US) Where can I get this stuff from? My current setup looks so unrealistic as it’s built up of saitek, honeycomb and elagato stream decks

    At this point, it's probably cheaper to just buy a decommissioned 737 and wire up everything in the cockpit to work with your computer and simulator. You can live in the rest of the plane cause you won't have enough money to pay rent or a mortgage.
