    Absolutely fantastic! When I was a little boy I used to build aeroplane cockpits out of cardboard boxes, drawed gauges insde and sat in them and imagined to fly around in them. This hardwarecockpit together with the graphics of MSFS 2020 woule be dream come true. Greets from Bavaria/Germany.

    After final flaps are retracted call for the after takeoff checklist. Auto skid to OFF, gear handle should be in the center position (off) to relieve hydraulic pressure, packs auto, bleeds on, igniters to auto (cont for TO and landing, as well as icing and heavy precipitation) Nice sim! Some of the catering trucks need to be reported for not giving way! Also, roll the HDG bug to match after every course change. That way it will fly present heading if your flight director fails, and arm the auto throttle at the gate after you load the FMC and enter the ambient temps etc…

    • @henryjessel7321
      @henryjessel7321 2 года назад

      I've always had questions about arming the auto-throttle at the gate. I've heard its pretty standard procedure but something I thought out, and have concerns about, is accidently triggering TO/GA while on the ground, especially in close proximity to the airplanes or terminal. Its always been something I thought about. I would be curious to hear any other opinions on that matter or if any airlines have a specific reason why they do it at the gate.

    • @pilotx8358
      @pilotx8358 2 года назад

      @@henryjessel7321 in order to engage TOGA you have to purposefully hit it. The design is such that you aren’t going to accidentally engage it. However, if you did it would be embarrassing but easily remedied as your hands would be on the throttle. A quick click of the auto throttle disconnect… problem solved. So don’t worry, just set up LNAV/VNAV and arm the Auto Throttle. Happy flying!

    • @henryjessel7321
      @henryjessel7321 2 года назад

      @@pilotx8358 True that! Yeah I'm just thinking of one of those like perfect scenarios where someone is taking their hands of the throttle and their hand strikes the button, and just doesn't process it in time. But at the same time, that's kinda on the pilot for not picking something if that magnitude up.
      Actually funny you bring up LNAV/VNAV too because I always arm those at the gate but I recently started training on a Level 5 FTD and their SOP is to not arm LNAV until 400' AGL and VNAV at 1000' AGL. We've brought up changing it but I thought that was really interesting way of running things.

    • @pilotx8358
      @pilotx8358 2 года назад +1

      @@henryjessel7321 in order to engage it’s a very purposeful movement. You depress it with your middle finger, pressing downward while you hand is resting on the throttles. In almost 20 yrs of flying the 737 I have never even come close to that scenario… nor heard of it ever happening. However, your concern is valid. The Atlas 767 that went down enroute to Houston was due to accidentally engaging TOGA. Apparently the switches are located under the throttles and are a pull type of engagement. The FO called for flaps and the Capt had to reach under the FOs hand as it was blocking the flap handle. In doing so the Capt bumped the switch in an upward fashion, engaging TOGA. Unfortunately, the report states that the flying pilot over corrected and put the plane on a 13 degree pitch down attitude, while keeping the throttles at TOGA. The plane quickly accelerated beyond a recoverable airspeed. So… your concern is quite valid, but the 737 design is very different from the 767.

    What I don't understand is that people spend huge effort financial and physical to built these things but then completelyt uninterested on how to properly fly these. No callouts, no checklists, no flows, no standard operating procedures? What's the point? Isn't that what's most important - being good at what you do?

    • @FlyWithRookie

      It was a test flight and the systems were not installed at that time. I think we are competent enough to fly this thing. Sack the camera operator, ask someone that is interested in aviation to do it.
    A major point of creating such a simulation is to involve the operator and observers.
    Much of this video was spent looking out the window, (I still don't know what the taxi speed was, as I never got to see the gauges during taxi)
    At least, back up a bit for an overview occasionally, and keep the view steady for a moment.
    A great achievement, to say the least, presentation here seriously lets it down.

      Unfortunately that’s not something I can give you as hardware varies from person to person. Also some builders go more in detail than others which can significantly drive up the cost. I did link FDS in the description for a more exact pricing.
      There is a former member of the community who goes by the name temporarily grounded. He has a real good explanation on cost. I’m not saying mines cost more or less than his but you can get a general starting point.
      I highly recommend you reach out to Peter over at Flight Deck Solutions and tell him a FlyWithRookie sent ya. flightdecksolutions.com/our-fleet/B737NG.
      The biggest issues with these sim is not every one buys the same exact parts from the same exact manufacture. Cost really depends on the depth you want to go. In this video you can get a ball park figure of potential cost. Start the video at 12:10 it’s about 3/4 mins of information.

      I'd say an easy $15-20k. Price is mostly irrelevant considering this is more a hobby and to you what may seem expensive is not really expensive for this person as this is their hobby / pride and joy.

      If you're planning to build a glass cockpit, it's gonna cost easliy around the 40k mark.
      That's including cockpit shell, avionics, yokes, throttle system, overhead panel, 2 seats, wiring, 2 or 3 computers running the components, projector screens. But also if you want motion or rumble effects that's another 10 k on top.
      Enjoy 😉
