thx, that's the way a review should look like! Now I know everything about the light and you didn't waste my time, because I had to watch a 15 min video!
This is the best pocket LED yet! I’m glad I waited. I would probably use this most inside a practical or a splash of accent color, and magnets make that easy. If you do the app video, maybe include other Aputure lights, like lighting a scene with Aputure lights. Thanks again for another great video!
Yeah the Pilotfly comes close for sure, but with magnets and the depth of control they put into their app, Aputure takes the cake. (I think that's an expression that people say, right? haha) The color accuracy and quality is remarkable too, they did a great job with this. I'll probably end up doing that app walkthrough but I don't actually have any other aputure lights that work with the app just yet. I think I can get an update or add on for the 120D II but I don't have it at the moment. I think. Haven't really looked into it yet to be honest haha. Once I can do that with a few lights and the app though a video on lighting a scene all with aputure could be very fun. I'll keep that on the backburner for now :)
Scott Dumas Yep, ‘takes the cake’ is a thing, ~”win the prize.” Oh, I thought you owned the 120d and assumed all Aputure lights were n-sync-able. I’m waiting for the 300 Nova to become available for you to review, haha. Aputure is launching next level lights, their new generation is just awesome. Hoping to win their film contest to get their lights🤞 My lighting fantasy is to be on the street, open the app, point it at the ugly-color light of a street light & replicate it with an Aputure light for fill, and have the whole scene look natural.
I think all the lights will be sync-able but for older lights you need something called the "Module Link Bridge" which ...may be available? at the moment haha... I'll be seeing them at InterBEE in Tokyo in November so I'll talk more about it with them then. I'm also really dying to test out the 300 Nova, 300D II, 300X, 600D ....tons of amazing lights they've got coming (and already released). I think the 300X will be pretty killer for applications like you said when lighting an outdoor scene and trying to match existing lights. The Nova should be even better at that but not as compatible with all the different accessories a Bowens mount can give you. Super exciting times though. So much awesome tech coming out all around :)
Nice review. Simple to the point and easy to understand. waiting for the stock to pull the card for a few of these ... you're right a steal at that cost for helpful practicals and effects lighting.
+Zeds Tech Tips - Mobilography totally! They really did just about everything right, very glad to be able to say that about another Aputure product haha
How's the output compared to Sokani X21 pro? I bought two of them after seeing your review, been using them a lot and I'm really happy with them. I'm excited about this one, but I'm wondering if it's useful for more than just accent light in the background.
Hi! Actually I don't think I've reviewed the Sokani or any rebranded version of it exactly... but it seems like the brightness is about double on the Sokani (seems to have more LED chips and no RGB?) The small size, magnetic body and RGB ability combined with super high quality white light makes the AL-MC a very versatile little accent light though.
@@ScottDumas Oh, sorry, I was sure it was your review. I bought a few stuff that you've recommended, so I guess I just assumed Sokani lights were your idea as well :D Yeah, they don't have RGB, but come with 12 or so different gels.
@@HobbyHoarder Haha no worries! Actually didn't know about that light myself :) It reminded me of the Aputure AL-MX though. Would be curious to see how those two compare side by side.
Nice review! Do you know if using two lights with the Sidius app can be syncronized for the special effects? Meaning, if you had colors cycling through a range of colors, would they display the same colors as they cycle through them? That would be a major incentive to purchase a couple of these. BTW, the Luxli LED lights have an app that includes the color picker featue. I've seen a few reviews that this feature is exclusive to Aputure, but Luxli offered it 2 years ago. Just sayin'...
@@FilmTutorials Thanks for the reply. I checked your youtube channel and don't see your review. Someone elsewhere posted that they have 3 of these lights and one is slightly out of sync with the other two, so I'm curious about being able to do this.
That's a very good question... not sure about the AL... "Aputure Light"? haha... but the full name is AL-MC, and there's only one... that and the AL-MX :)
Wow..that little light is a beast!! I have the M9, and love it...but the MC is like a supercar compared to the M9. Great review! Is every setting on the dial available through the app? That would be a nice backup in case the dial fails.
+Marvin A thanks! I have the M9 too, great little light but like you said this MC kills it! Actually make a great pair :) Everything from the dial is in the app and a whole lot more actually. Even color temp for example is adjustable by 10 degree increments in the app, and there are multiple modes to set the temp according to kelvin, light source type, light plus some CTO/CTB gel etc. and that’s just for white light! Haha It’s impressive :)
Would you recommend MC RGB or F7? I'm getting lights for my kit to make short films mainly. I want only 2 lights (I know it's not much but money...). First will be Amaran 100x with soft box and second one I'm torn between MCRGB and F7. I should add MC RGB is about 30% more expensive than F7 where I am.
+Christian Degas with the app you can customize them to a pretty insanely detailed level, I have a walkthrough of that app in detail too if you check my video list it should be one of the newest (Sidus Link is the name of the app)
Hi! Thanks for watching! :) If you can get some sort of expansion bracket for the Osmo 3 (I've seen some random ones on Amazon) that could help to mount it on there, or at least a side arm style bracket that goes between the mini tripod and gimbal itself. There are several versions of that and as long as the height doesn't interfere with the arms of the gimbal or the phone, any should work that way :)
Yeah I think Aputure definitely wants to get it right before they release it instead of releasing something full of bugs... hopefully it should be soon though! :)
The Pilotfly has more output and is a little bit larger, built stronger and is easy to connect 2+ lights physically - also costs twice as much though. The AL-MC has the diffusion dome which is nice and not included with the Pilotfly, a magnetic body with wireless charging, plus the AL-MC has slightly higher light quality (although it's such a small difference you'd pretty much never notice). The biggest difference though at the moment is in the app- the Pilotfly gives you control over pretty much everything the light has to offer plus the "music mode" BUT the Aputure app gives you SO MUCH control and customization it's insane. Things like deciding the color of your special effects, adjusting their speed and patterns, physically triggering strikes of lightning, the color picker function and multiple different ways to dial in your color temperature even in basic white light mode. It's honestly pretty mind blowing. I LOVE the AtomCube, don't get me wrong... but if I were choosing between the two, 2 of the AL-MCs might make more sense unless all you need is raw power or a rock solid metal body. I'll still pack the Pilotfly in a side pocket when I'm out on a shoot and might need a light in a pinch though, because in those situations the power will be worth it, but when setting up something deliberately I'll default to the AL-MC.
+Kuro Wanna I actually have a walkthrough video for the app here 😊 Aputure Sidus Link | Mobile App Walkthrough ruclips.net/video/0Bnf7G-FUB4/видео.html Hope that can help!

Honestly, now I somewhat hate you ;-) I'm planing to get a ~100$ led light by Viltrox from AliExpress probably on 11.11 (with a hope for discounts etc) and this is to be used as my only light on my videos instead of a smaller Viltrox I currently have, but now I see this and damn I want that!! lol... I'll bookmark the page, maybe later will use it as some background light or something or for those smaller things I sometimes shoot.
Hahaha, it is fun for a little accent light especially. I think I know more or less the Viltrox one you're talking about though and that should definitely serve you well for your purposes :) Didn't think about those 11.11 discounts myself though- I'll have to look into that!
@@ScottDumas Oh if you get few things or plan on them, we'd like to see! P.S. if you enroll as an affiliate on AliExpress, can be a nice addition on that day I guess. I was confused on this as well because I saw they were both listed on Amazon al-mc ($109.90) and mc ($79.00)
Looks like the al-mc has an “amaran al-m9 upgrade”
I’d love to see a video walk-through of the app, Scott.

I think it really just depends if you need RGB or not. If you don't, the F7 is brighter (I think) and if it's cheaper, I'd say a great choice.
