Terrific video as usual Andy. Try to isolate noise at your pump be lifting by hand off your bench, if this works and the pump sounds quieter what you have is a resonance from your bench, put a bit of filter mesh under a piece of ply or similar then another piece of mesh on top then stand your pump on top should be good to go. 11am first thing was to clean the air stones by scrubbing in salt water then place them into the winter position just 2" under the top of the water.
I never have air stones on the bottum of the pond in winter all you are doing is moving the warm water to the top so dropping the temperature.
The same for water return if I have the pump on in the winter I always put an extension pipe onto the return so water goes down the bottom pipe and comes back to the bottum.

My area is 500 feet above sea level our water comes from underground it seems big caverns have been dug out and water comes from these via a pumping station if it gets low we switch over to kielder water.

Boost good bacteria in the pond why buy liquid bacteria or balls for the filter system.
When you can make your own mixture quickly and better than any you can buy.
Get a container bucket will do fill it halfway with dirty water out of your filter system put your potato peelings carrot peelings and Brussels into the bucket cover with a plastic bag and leave in the shed for a week or two.
Drain a little of the water off and drop into your filter system or pond it’s packed with good bacteria.
Plus you can keep topping it up and putting it in the pond system every month maintaining good bacteria.

That is a simple job find the power supply and just check the brushes are not hitting the plate.
The pond keeper is going to get hit hard over the next few months not only with the rise in gas and electricity but the cost of fish food and other products which are likely to cost 40% more.
Although the cost of electric and gas will not rise by more than another £90 next year the cost of the daily charge will be going up to 72p a day per household duel fuel.
My shed and greenhouse are linked by a burner which will have to go I burn waste wood and I don’t want a £1000 fine.
My son will also be effected he has a big wood burner in his kitchen to heat the house.
Under the Clean Air Act my local authority said the whole of the authority is a smoke control area. It is an offence to emit smoke from a chimney of a building, from a furnace or from any fixed boiler or burn coal or wood if located in a designated smoke control area.
What gets me is the farmers all around me burn the fields every year.
The push for net zero economies has meant countries are opting out of burning fossils fuels and are instead placing their faith in wind and solar power.
Most parts of the country have a ban on burning coal and now a total ban looks likely on burning wood.
The sale of loose house coal delivered direct to the customer will end by 2023 at the same time you will only be able to burn Woodsure ready to burn fuel in wood burners.
Currently it is illegal to burn wood or house coal on an open fire. If you have a stove you should only burn dry wood Woodsure.
The government introduced new regulations for customers looking to burn wood in Stoves, this came into effect in May 2021 a full ban on wood burning looks likely from April 2022 The intention is to improve air quality, but it will also change the types of fuel you can use in your log burning stove. Wet wood will be unlawful and may be a surprise to some. Only dry logs ie kiln dried logs will be the only logs burned in any home appliance. Dry logs must have a moisture content of less than 20% and produce very little smoke when burning logs and can only be Woodsure.

Replacement pond liner I always try and use a Damp Proof Membrane made from a EPDM Rubber sheet you can get big floor sizes these days and can find one the size to fit your pond they are water tight and have a life span of around 40 years.
I would say it’s the same stuff as pond liner.
The max length I have found to be 10mt and width 6mt it is also cheap because its for under bricks the one I have for my new pond cost £47. The same advertised as pond liner would be around £240. ruclips.net/video/e_5R1YcTQH4/видео.html

Rotifers are they good for your pond ???
Every pond has millions of them swimming around and yes you can find them on your fish.
You can mistake them for Flukes and while you keep medicating the pond they never seem to go away so you medicate again and wonder why the flukes are not going that’s because they are Rotifers.
Some can be mistaken for Chilodonella.
These little things are great for the pond they eat the waste and any algea you can find millions in a filter system and on the side of the pond walls they also get eaten by the fish as they suck on the walls of the pond.
They also seem resistant to all pond medications.
If you have FRY don’t feed them fry food but Rotifers make a simple culture of rotifers in three 2lt bottles and put 1lt of the water into the fry each day just fill the bottle back up and move it to the end of the bottles and so on.
