    Andy if you could do the filter system again would you go all hog and get a drum filter. Or a nexus with auto/basic or would you stay with the cockles multi bay system. I have to do my system as my nexus was stolen when I was on holiday. And all my fish and what they didn't taken they destroyed I have put up lights and cameras now I think the maltybay system can be made more stronger can I have your thoughts please thanks peter

      Hiya, first of all, gutted to hear that some one would steel ya fish and filter system... WTFok is all that about..😡. So back to your question, from my experience of the multi bay system, once you played around to get it right for your pond, they are great. Yes they take more manual looking after in summer when feeding is filling them with pooh but I've found that my set up manages that in the first 2 bays that take an hour or so each week to wash through and top up with what water was used during cleaning. Using my cleaning methods in summer reduces water use with bottom drain purge every 3rd or 4th clean to keep the pipes clear.. If I did it again I'd probably still go multibay with a better polisher after the filter, but I don't have the space in my set up to add something at the moment. (But never say never😉). My only comments about the nexus and drum is they use alot of water very oftern and I've never been keen on moving parts to go wrong if I was away on holiday, but I hear they are good. There are plenty of second hand filter going at the moment so I'd pick up a cheap filter and PP it to start again with it.. Good luck with your restart pond. Thanks for watching. 😉👍

      @Koi Pond Lifestyle.
      Thanks you have just said what I was thinking . Every time there a new video it always starts with the fact the nexus is on a boil .apart from yours that's all we won't to see issomeone else cleaning there filter I think that's my plan of attack. Thanks for that keep the films coming and I'm glad you have not jumped on the bandwagon of two or three videos a week of cleaning a nexus. Hope you have a grate your with the pond and don't forget the dog thanks

    Andy
    What have done was to make a1/1/2, plastic manifold system which I then take the air from that which does not choke the pump hence the noise and you have a more stable pressure in the system I have no noise now hope this helps

    Great update Andy glad to see you finally got your variispeed switch 👍 I know with the Colombo kit you don't count the first drop but there are kits out there that say you do count the first drop so I suppose it depends on the test kit 👍

      Hiya, Thanks for that.. I do still have my pack of FOK that will be coming back out in spring as soon as the pond temps start to increase and I get the full benefit from it. I did a video on why I don't use it through winter. ruclips.net/video/jJyLFA1tstg/видео.html
      Oatcakes in Stoke on Trent are a stapple diet for us and are consumed daily in our house..😂😂.

    My SW London tap water has a ph8, kh12 to 14, and nitrate 40ppm. I usually have some ammonia between 0 and .25ppm, and 0 nitrite. A dealer in the Netherlands said on his YT channel that a little ammonia is keeping your filter bacteria alive.
    If you reduce the output from the air pump, can you balance the reduced air flow into the K1 chamber? The japmat will be OK.

      @KoiPondLifestyle  2 года назад

      Thanks for that. Really good point about the ammonia keeping the bactieria going through winter..😉👍

    Hi Andy, I’m on the Colombo test kit and don’t count the first drop. I think the first drop is to change the colour and then count from the next drops to turn blue. But hey what is a drop between koi mates😂

    I’d be interested to know what the buffer ratio is between ph and kh. Eg ph drops x .1, kh would x .5 ?

    We have had 2 out of three things happen this week.
    The area has been classed as a dark skies area so we can no longer have outdoor security lighting that shines outside of the property it now has to point down and only shine in your own property area.
    It also has to be yellow light not white or warm white so I will have to replace 2 of my lights.
    We have not had the area classed as a full clean air area but the city 20 miles away has and covers pollution by cars and other vehicles.
    The next part comes in later in the year when you can no longer burn wood on wood burning fires but will have to burn pellets only.
    However, you can still have garden wood burners and can even still burn garden rubbish so I can not see the point of this one.
    I wonder what will be next.

    Have you noticed that your particle filter cartridge was incorrectly fitted in its case ? See the impressed ring in the base of the cartridge, the ridge that has made this mark should be dead centre and then there would be no mark. 🙂

    Lanzarote seems like a dream...its fokking freezing back in the UK ( at least in manchester ). I like the Salifert Oxygen test kit...seems to work fine. Dont have locking bolts for my covers so I use patio wood sheets. Nice and heavy. The varrispeed unit...I only have my pump working with the aerator...and the pump is VERY noisy like yours. Would this work for me ??. Salifert Kh tester kit is a doddle to use. Was there a video last Friday..didn't see it in the notifications.

    Yeah, Andy, I’ve always included the first drop as well mate. My water is so soft up here in Scotlandshire, that if tested without having been dosed with Bi-carb for a while, it can go yellow on the very first drop, and completely skip the the turning blue stage. So for me, I count every single drop for the reading / result etc. whether that’s right or wrong….. who know’s 🤷🏼‍♂️ 😂

    You count the 1st drop. I use Api kit too but the new one I bought drips out bigger drops than my old bottle which changes the reading. Think I will put the new stuff in the old bottle.
