You guys crushed it for so long. So hyped you covered this. One of my favourite novels. Even if it’s five years down the road and you wanted to try doing a CK episode again just through Patreon or something we’d all be there in a heartbeat. Absolutely no pressure though if you never touch it again. We miss you, we miss Ed. We love you. We’re all thinking of you and inspired to MAKE. MORE. COMICS.

Long time viewer, rarely comments....but hey, I'm picking up my copy of The Hip Hop Family Tree omnibus, today. As soon as I heard what happened, I ordered a copy and it just came in the mail.....man, life is so surreal......I'm still in shock, but love hearing Mr Piskor's astute knowledge on all things comics....but, man.....RIP!

That's awesome man! I've been sharing Ed's X-Men GD books with my 15 y/o and one of his friends, they're into X-Men '97 and the Grand Design books are perfect for teaching young Padawans.

I have this edition which I ran into Bernie at Chicagocon in ‘96 and had him sign it. Wish I remembered what we talked about. I spent a half hour at his table that had no line. I’m glad I did it and didn’t chicken out. Talk to your elders while they’re still here. Tell them how you feel.

I met Wrightson at that same con I believe and feel the same. Wish I could go back and talk to him again. I was young and stupid and had like 20+ things for him to sign but I do remember him appreciating all of the many comics of his I had tracked down like WEIRD, House of Mystery, House of Secrets, Weird Mystery, etc. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. But anyways yeah what a legendary artist and kind gentleman to talk to. I remember he had crazy eyebrows. Almost as though he styled them that way!

This and Wrightsons Mega-Tome 'A Look Back' were like Art Bibles for my younger self. Piskor's voice is good to hear. I hope the backlog of vids lasts for more than a bit longer......will be sad when they run out....BUT.....there are 1700 videos in the Archive to re-watch ...AND the PATREON which I have not yet joined....... A Glorious Trove awaits still!! Rest Easy, Rest in Power, Eddie P⚡

What a stoking of memories' flame. Avid comic reader, once a collector. Bernie Wrightson's work first caught my eye when Marvel came out with 'The Monster of Frankenstein' and 'The Swamp Thing'. Yes I was floored by the details and intricacies and form of the works. And yes, they are works. Nothing in comicdom had anything like him.

I have this same edition that I must have gotten back in '94. I love it. Wrightson and Mignola are both masters of form in their own way, but their approaches are so different. It's sort of like Wrightson uses ink lines to mold forms, and Mignola carves them from spotted blacks. I'm so glad Jim and Ed covered this book.

They should reprint this on uncoated paper. The gloss reflects too much. It would give it that old world look too

i rarely comments here, all i can say is thanks for all the hardwork guys, Jim and the kayfabe crew. This channel really helped me finishing my comic for my final project at college back in 2022. I'm glad and forever gratefull found this channel. Very sad hearing the news about Ed's passing.
Rest in Peace Ed, I'm gonna miss the show.

I hadn't been able to bring myself to watch an episode yet, I was still so sad. However, today's episode is the one I'm been waiting for since the start. I found this book when I'd just gotten into comics, in the late 80's and it lead me to discover all the books that Ed and Jim have been talking about since the start or CK. Today's episode was hard but it's good to see Ed and Jim. Thanks for everything.

Some of the original pages were on display at Guillermo Del Toro's "At Home With Monsters" exhibition back in 2017. They were jaw-dropping and really stole the show for me. The original large size pages revealed so much more about the art of line illustration than what the smaller scaled-down repro pages show in the various publications and their reprints. Something is always lost or altered during the printing process, so what we've seen in the books for all these decades is effectively like half or less of what's really there in the artist's original work. Ever since that viewing in 2017 I've been anxiously hopeful for an Artist Edition of Wrightson's Frankenstein work because it's something that truly does need to be seen and experienced at full scale, with all of the subtle ink nuances and technical intricacies preserved.

I have a friend Frank Gomez that work in comics for a while but in knew Bernie Wrightson , he lived in a modest apartment in the San Fernando Valley wast tight on money. He didn’t make a lot of money on his older stuff. Ways want to work an angle that we could see him at his place maybe check out some his pages in person. Heard he was a kind soul.

Wrightson was truly a master of light and shadow. I was fortunate enough to find the first hardcover version of this book in a Kmart clearance bin of all places! I was able to have Bernie sign it at a convention a few years later and will forever treasure it. He will always be one of my favorite artists and his unique artistic talent will remain second to none. Thank you Jim for posting this. RIP Ed.

I used to ride the bus to work and occasionally had conversations with this older lady about nothing in particular, she was sharp and pleasant to talk to. One day I was reading a book about the censorship of comic books in the 1950s and she tells me, "My son draws comics books." "Oh yeah, what's his name?" I asked just assuming she'd name someone I'd never heard about.
Turns out she was Bernie's mother.

I first bought that book in ‘86 the Marvel edition, which I still have somewhere and I got that massive A look Back book around the same time. Thats around the same time I discovered Pentel mechanical pencils and I would attempt to emulate his style, i figured pencils are more forgiving then pens😂 i still want to get the hard back version that came out a while ago.
