I'm 53 years old. I did a comic strip for my high school paper and my college paper, but then I took a break from publishing comics for decades. By the time my neighborhood newspaper asked me to do a strip for them, the world had changed. The instructional and informational videos on comic-making on you guys' channel really helped me get started back up making comics. In filled in gaps in my knowledge of traditional comic-making and it got me started in how to interface traditional comics with the digital age. Thank you!

This reminds me of the book Nothing in this book is true but it's exactly how things are. It was far out there with topics like UFOs and had illustrations by Spain Rodriguez.
High energy and deep cut of EC comics! Awesome art, and now I think that Gaines was likely targeted. Thanks for uploading Jim! Nobody can break this stuff down like you guys did. I was able to get your Hulk Grand Design Issues and a Red Room issue when they came out due to luck where I was at. I also was able to get a Chex Quest comic randomly. They've been my gems where I go I was able to start my Cartoonist Kayfabe collection. When I get the opportunity to grab more books I want to support you still. Man, I want people to support this channel now and in the future. We never know how quick stuff can change and never know how good we've had it. Full love to your and Piskor's family!

I used to have a couple dozen oversized mailing envelopes full of images for my morgue files. Each envelope dedicated to different topics. I was ready to break down and buy a file cabinet to store them in when the internet started to make it obsolete. A few years ago, I knocked over an external drive and immediately lost 4 or 5 Gigs of reference images.

These two are my best friends I've never met. I'm missing one dearly and hurting for the other. I can't even talk to anyone about it without feeling weird trying to explain how attached I am to these RUclipsrs and comic artists Ed and Jim and the joy they have brought me on the daily.

Looking into the dates of the Senate Subcommittee Hearings that Gaines testified at and the cover date of this issue, it looks like this issue may have been a response to the Senate Subcommittee rather than what got EC on the radar of the Fed Govt. April 21, 1954 was the Senate hearing, and this cover date is December 1954. He must've come straight back to NY and started work on this.
Ed always has such interesting commentary and observations. Such a quick and knowledgeable mind. These men speak the language of comics. Jim's comment: "The comic book filter [through which we see the world]" when Ed uses Frank Castle as a metaphor LOL
Listening to the two of you talk and get excited over this work makes me realize just how much the art world (and THE WORLD) has lost with Ed's passing. I'm a professional illustrator, not a comics guy, (although I do have some definite favorites in the genre) but I did enjoy comics in my youth and 100% respect all of the talent, time, energy and history of comics... it is endlessly fascinating. I stumbled across you guys somehow and was instantly drawn in by your knowledge and love of everything comics, and the way you both presented together... it was magic. I would just put you guys on play and sit and do my work as I listened, often until dawn. I wish I would've known Ed personally... I wish there could've been something I could've said to change what has happened. Nothing that happens in this world is worth taking your own life... but I respect that everyone must choose their own path, for their own reasons... I am just so heart-broken that it happened. These videos are priceless time-capsules. I hope that this channel and this series can continue on somehow. Thank you, Jim, for putting these out. I don't know what position this puts you in or where you stand on all of this... but I'm sorry for the ways that this too has effected you. The world keeps moving forward... we must move forward too, we have no choice in that matter. Love and condolences to all the people who have also appreciated these two men. All the best.
I read up on Frederic Wertham, the anti-comics crusader, and I know that he is a villain among fans of the medium, but he was an interesting character--he supported the Civil Rights movement, for example. The Comics Code Authority stamp is so iconic though. My favorite genre of comics is horror and that genre certainly became quite bland after the code was put in place.
Great video and angle to EC's demise? Ed's enthusiasm is so contagious. I have seen so many tribute posts and videos pop up on you tube in the last couple of days.
