    Excellent solution. I wonder if this will work for a Ducato. My spare (that didn't come with the vehicle is hanging around in the garage. I'd love to sling it underneath. I have 4 brand new continental tyres but couldn't tour without a spare, its a budget tyre on a secondhand rim. I have to wait now for some fine weather to see if there is a similar location on the ducato...

      @benmattock8729 9 месяцев назад

      Just measure your fucken wheel bolts. If yours is also a mk2 then that's m14s BTW, which is 14mm. And the fuck you mean you need to work out what size plate you need? The pcd is 5x130. That's the furthest distance between 2 bolts. Just add a bit, and plate is plate, it's adequate thickness if it's plate..

    • @OlyLowe
      @OlyLowe  4 года назад

      You'd best tell a whole load of car manufacturers who mount their spare wheels under their vehicles too...Dear Land Rover, Ford, Renault... 🤣🤣🤣

    • @shedendman
      @shedendman 4 года назад

      @@OlyLowe es at a point where you can remove it without laying on the ground,they can be removed from the back using the supplied handle lowered down on a winch type thing.
      You do not have to crawl under the car etc itself

    • @OlyLowe
      @OlyLowe  4 года назад +1

      @@shedendman you still have to get down and drag the wheel out from under the vehicle with factory fitted wind down spare wheels. I have a long handled ratchet though so again you don't need to crawl under the vehicle.
      The other points to note though are two fold, firstly I've never had to replace a wheel on this vehicle yet, I've only had to do one wheel on another vehicle in the last 10 years (200k miles), so it's a rare event really and why many manufacturers don't include spare wheels now (along with efficency & cost) just the fixing kits (which I carry as well anyway). I do go to some pretty remote places though so wanted the extra security of a spare wheel so long as it didn't impinge on my internal space. The second point is that this is a van with all the kit to get changed and clean within it, so if I were to get a muddy knee, I could get clean and changed if I was so worried about getting a bit of mud inside the cab.
      Finally, this is a suggestion I (and now many others) like find works, nobody is forcing you to put this on your van, so if its not for you don't worry about it and just move on.
      All the best, Oly

    No chance of this on my 2008 Renault master. Tyre is 270mm wide and total ground clearance from chassis to ground is only 370mm. So with wheel underneath it leaves just 100mm. No way that works for me :(

    Great idea and thanks for the video.
    We're just starting out conversion ok our 2009 master so this is extremely useful!
    How tricky is it to get into place/remove when needed?

    • @OlyLowe
      @OlyLowe  4 года назад +1

      To remove its easy, lean or lie (carry an old towel) under and spanner off.
      To put on it is a bit tricky, I lay on my back, put 3x pieces of 4x2 under the front edge and lifted the rear with my leg leaving my hands free to attach the plate, washer and nut.
      In reality the tyre repair place will reattach the spare once the damaged tyre is fixed though so it shouldn't be a problem.
      Odds are you'll never need it, but it's good to have it!
