I own a natural flooring and upholstery cleaning company and this will work but you will have to use an iron and a damp white towel to completely get the stain out. then flush with a wet vac and water then put a fan aimed at the area. vinegar doesnt need agitation to work. just make sure you use enough but dont saturate the spot. never try this on natural fibers such as wool and cotton.
If you put a clean cloth over it, soak up the excess vinegar and then put your iron over it on the steam setting for about 30 seconds, spot be gone.
What vinegar
@@janiyabenford4119 White Vinegar
Hello, yes that's great advice and I appreciate that you shared that!
@@janiyabenford4119 Yes, white vinegar.
This worked very well for me on some old pet urine stains.

Wow this really works! I had a huge stain (child's vomit) on a wool blend cream carpet that is prone to staining. After mopping up the initial mess and cleaning with dish detergent and water I then tried everything to remove the huge yellow patch (professional carpet cleaners, Vanish napisan, bicarbonate of soda). I came across this video and gave it a try. I initially used 50:50 water: white vinegar but after two applications the stain remained. I increased the concentration to about 80% vinigar and after a few more applications the stain has completely gone.
What is even better is that I also successfully removed an old yellow stain that happened over 10 months ago (again I had tried everything) andthere is no trace of it. I am so impressed this method really works with the type of carpet I have. Thank you for sharing!
Yes it really works, I love cleaning with vinegar. it helped me so much when my animals had an accident on the carpet, it really saved my carpet.

Thanks for the video. Suggestion, take that 20" box fan, and buy a high quality 20" by 20" home furnace air filter. Tape or zip tie the filter to the back of the fan, noting the direction on the airflow, and you have a fabulous new air purifier that works as well or better than high dollar air purifiers. Get the filters, 3M brand, that have the charcoal in them and you are removing odors too. Helps allergy sufferers, smoke smell in a house, pollen, etc. Try it!
ok cool
Pik Pik Mo 2 kool!
I give them out as gifts, as for $30 total, they move ALOT of air through a BIG quality filter. Friends with allergies get relief! You will see how well they work in a few short weeks, by noticing how much dirt the filter has trapped. Plus they remove stuff you can't see. Worth a try folks!

Awesome tip. it worked perfectly. it isn't a one time process but that is fine. the upsides are remove color, breakdown the organic particles which aides in removing the "horrible" smell of dog pee, dog vomit and human vomit. Lastly, it truly works and it cost pennies. I was tired making store Brand Name products wealthy. Most of them don't work. Again, awesome advice.
Thank you! I'm glad it worked for you

+Jack Bailey Thank you and I will. :)
as the owner of Dry Extraction carpet cleaning i tell every customer to use vinegar and hot water on all the pet urine. in-till they have the carpets cleaned. the urine stain is high on the ph scale. and vinegar is lower on the ph scale. so together they normally equal a balanced ph level. just cause the stain is gone from the surface doesnt mean its full gone. You want to pour the vinegar and water on the spot the take a big towel and stoop till you fill the sub floor. repeat, repeat and repeat.
That is excellent advice. A spot does not become a stain until it causes color loss. Color loss is what happens when bleach spills on the carpet. It is impossible to remove. Pet urine can cause color loss if it is in the carpets too long. Neutralizing urine with vinegar will prevent this from happening.
That's is awesome advice! Thanks for sharing!

Past Tennant had upwards of five dogs. Urine and dirt stains all through carpets. I sprayed white vinegar on them, sprinkled baking soda on top of, left for an hour or two then got Hot wet wrung out white towel and stamped and pushed towel into stains. Got out 80% of stains and 100% of urine smell. Now I'm returning to job and sprayed white vinegar onto carpet then placed a wet wrung out white towel onto, ironing on top of towel which is on top of stain. More stains and dirt are coming off of the floor and onto the towel which I washed and will repeat process.
I'm glad that is working for you. Thanks for sharing.
I have been using cheap white vinegar in a spray bottle around the house, bathrooms & on the carpet instead of "409" (or other miscellaneous cleaners). You may need the factory cleaners in some tough cases but white vinegar works well for spot cleaning at least 80% of the time. Also, vinegar acts as a bactericide and leaves no soap residue. I recently read that vinegar is contraindicated for cleaning natural marble due to the dulling and etching effects of the acidity over time.
Awesome! Thanks for the tip!

how do you clean up vinegar you spilled on your carpet
Water
Just a thought once you have sprayed , when you 1 st wipe are'nt you spreading whatever over a bigger area ? just a thought , but I have'nt finished watching the rest of the video yet so the answer might already be on here , I do use vinegar a lot in my home too , it's a good product.
+yvonneost12 It could possibly do that, but you are still cleaning that area with vinegar. Always try a small area first to see if it's cleaning it.

I had a stain that I think may have been bbq sauce but not really sure...it just seemed like out of the blue it appeared and continued to get darker over time. If it was from bbq sauce then the stain would be about 8 months old. I sprayed full strength white vinegar on the stain then blotted with a couple of folded up white paper towels. The stain lifted right up. No scrubbing. I am quite impressed. Hopefully it won't appear out of the blue again. Thanks for the tip. Hope this can work for someone else as well as it did for me.

Hi Kacey. I've had a stain on my sofa for quite some time now and I haven't tried removing it with anything since I was afraid that I'd only make it worse. My sofa is an antique, though newly reupholstered. The fabric used feels like some sort of rough carpet fabric and is very hard-wearing. The stain itself came from cooking oil, I believe. Do you think the White vinegar solution you showed here will be able to remove it? Thanks.
Paddi.
+Sergale Hi, I'm not sure, but you can try a small area and see if it works. Sometimes on tough stains you have to work on it on and off through the week. I use a 32 fl oz or a 16 fl oz spray bottle half vinegar and half water and I spray the area I need to clean. Vinegar and water doesn't always get out all stains, try a small area first to see if it works and sometimes I have to use just vinegar.
Let me know if this was helpful
Kacey .
Thanks a lot. I know it probably wasn't a good idea, but I went ahead and tried it on the stain. Afterwards, I put a damp piece of cloth over it and used my iron to heat it up with a bit of steam. I did this about 4 times and it actually removed most of the stain. I also used a toothbrush to gently scrub the stain a bit. It's not all gone but I'll try have another go at it some time soon. But thanks for the tips :) It really helped. The stain is not nearly as visible as before. Now I can look at my sofa without constantly noticing the stain. So that's good! :)
+Sergale I'm glad the stain looks a lot better. Sometimes you have to try other options.
Kacey
@@doghibthekobold7852 You can try a little bit of bi carb on your tooth brush, gently exfoliate that into the pile of the fabric and then use a damp clean cloth to remove.

Thank you for your information. I've been trying to figure out how to disinfect my carpet. On really tough stains that vinegar doesn't cover, I use the soap, vinegar, and ammonia (with water) solution, but would love to come back with just vinegar and water afterwards, now that I've seen how you did this.

Good idea!
I'm not so sure about this lady's method! One of the comments below and one I read many times over, states to BLOT, NOT WIPE the stain back into the carpet. I don't think the stein is much better than when she started. I'm looking at this, because I have a nasty dried chocolate soy milk stain that I just discovered. I think it's best to look at several different videos and websites, being as specific as you can get about the source of the stain and type of carpet being cleaned. I've also read where, baking soda with vinegar is effective, as well as hydrogen peroxide. I'm going to try several different methods, to see which works best. But, one thing I won't do is wipe the stain back into the carpet! BAS ADVICE!
Ok thanks for the information and I'm sorry that I wasn't able to help you
good
Yay
Would this still work if they stain had set in? And does anyone know any alternatives for a wet dry vacuum??
Hi, the vinegar and water could work getting out old stains, you would have to keep working on it on and off during the week. No alternatives for a wet vacuum that I know of. What are you trying to vacuum up?
Hi, May I ask the rough ratio between vinegar and water, please?
+Emma 20 half water and half vinegar.
Does anyone know how long the carpet should stay damp for after cleaning?
Should dry within in a few hours but it all depends on how wet the carpet is
Thanks for sharing. My concern is it may bleach, is that correct?
No, it does not. I used to think the same thing before trying it out.
It will not bleach your carpet!
After you cleaned the stain did it leave a potent smell of vinegar afterwards?
When I use it there has never been a potent smell. Let me know what you think after using it.
Thank you
Kacey
Actually, the smell does remain there for a while, but as the vinegar dries out, the smell goes away. Which for an area something similar to this video example should be no more than 2-3 hours.
@omarrahman88 cool thank you :)
Wow this is really working for me the stain isn't completely gone yet but I'm sure it will go soon thanks for the help, but most of the stains on my carpet are from a really long time ago do you know what would help with that thanks
I'm glad the vinegar is working for you, as for the old stains I'm not sure, you can try the vinegar and see if it starts working. Let me know how it works on the old stains.
Kacey
On the older stains try Hydrogen Peroxide (3%) from the grocery store.
First, you should rinse the area well to remove contaminants that might prevent the peroxide from working correctly. Follow these steps:
Step 1)
In a spray bottle, mix 1/2 teaspoon of dawn liquid dish soap with 8 oz if warm water. Saturate the area will and allow to dwell for about 5 minutes. Now use a dry/wet shop vac or place a couple white terry cloth towels over the area to soak it up.
Step 2)
Fill a spray bottle with just warm water and spray the area well and use more towels to blot up the area. This is more or less rinsing the fibers clean.
NOTE: Its best to wait until the carpets are completely dry before moving onto Step 3. Use a hairdryer to help dry more quickly.
Step 3)
Now generously apply the Hydrogen Peroxide directly to the area. Place a couple more white terry cloth towels over it. Now place a heavy object such as a brick or potted plant over the towels so that it is applying pressure to the spot. Leave it like this until it drys on its own.
Repeating Steps 2 & 3 maybe required.

This looks fantastic. I'll get some distilled vinegar in the next few days, but I don't have an empty spray container. Am I okay to put the vinegar with some water in a bowl and just dab that on, please? I'm not sure the carpet would enjoy a brushing like that :)
DVDfeverGames: Thank you! Yes it's ok to use a bowl, half vinegar and half water, dab a bit on the carpet to see if it does the job. If you haven't yet please subscribe.
@@kaceyquinncleaning Hi, thanks for your reply. I've tried this a couple of times since I saw your reply. I've got a lot of the stain out, but it still won't go completely. I put 50/50 vinegar and water, tried some dabbing at first, but second time, I put a more liquid on the carpet. And while my carpet is too short for a brush, I used a white microfibre cloth, and some elbow grease, then blotted the carpet.
I've seen your other video where you use no water, but just distilled vinegar, albeit with a bit of washing up liquid. I'm wondering whether to try that next, or just keep going with my current route, hoping it goes after a few more tries? Thanks.
Hey there is another technique out there where you can apply a damp cloth to the rug and place an iron over it with it turned on. Just be careful to not burn your rug. There are some videos showing how to do this. Watch the video first before trying it out, to make sure you're doing it right.
@@kaceyquinncleaning Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, my ketchup stain is on a light sand-coloured carpet and isn't completely coming out after three goes with this, and I don't want to ruin the carpet :(
If it was a rug, I'd give the iron process a go, but I can't chance burning a carpet for a slight stain. Do you know what else I can try, please?
@@DVDfeverGames ok then just keep damping a cloth of vinegar over the spot and see if it loosens up the stain.

Hello helper!!! So that's only vinager in a spray bottle right!!!

Vinegar with water
i literally have the same problem lol my dog peed on my carpet and its very noticeable so im gonna try this out
Awesome let me know if it worked for you!
It should be noted that vinegar, while a good natural stain remover, is actually the WORST thing you can use for removing pet stains. Vinegar has an acidic base, which makes it good for breaking down visible stains. However that acidic base shares some properties and compounds found in urine. Urine and Vinegar have a similar pH level. Animals urinate based on scent. This holds true for both cats and dogs. cats use a litter box based on the odor. Dogs sniff out an area to find where they have gone before and will continue to go in that spot. Because vinegar has a pH balance similar to urine, cats and dogs are both likely to mistake the smell of vinegar for that of urine. In turn they are likely to go to the bathroom in that spot again. Countless people run into the issue of their pet going in a spot they cleaned, and they can not figure out why their pet won't stop going there. Often they blame it on housebreaking or behavior issues, but the fact is, it is the smell drawing them to that spot. This can also be verified by visiting the Human Society's website. It also holds true for ammonia as well as vinegar.
Actually they have almost opposite ph levels
Urine pH is typically 6.5 - 7.0 & vinegar pH levels range from 2.5 to 5.0. Regardless, pets can pick up that odor and they do not differentiate the acidic base
Yea but most people are here because their dog made an accident, not on purpose so they wouldn’t do it again
Thanks for the tip!
I am not sure if you monitor you video but I have a question for you. I have a big dog in the house and he had diarrhea last night. In my stupidity I scrubbed the carpet where he went to the bathroom with carpet cleaning chemicals and I now have this huge brown stain on my carpet. Do you think your method can help me clean it?
+Philip Hansen I know it helped when my dog was sick and threw up and went to the bathroom on the carpet. I got out my bottle of vinegar and water (half water and half vinegar in a plastic spray bottle) and a small subbing brush, it came out. Sometimes if it's bad you will have to clean it a couple more times, maybe that same day. The video was me scrubing after my dog had her accident on the rug, it came out pretty good.

I am not that sure, check for just in case.
This is definitely not windex. That would be a glass cleaner
what type of vinegar are you using?
I use white vinegar and water. Half vinegar and half water in squirt bottle
does this work on stains that been there for a long time???

Kacey
Scrub your carpets like that and you will wreck the carpet fibres. Even if you get the stain out your carpet will always look bad at that spot. Instead you should only BLOT it out without rubbing or scrubbing the carpet.
Thanks for the tip!
What did you use to scrub it?
A scrub brush.
Yes a scrub brush is what I used
How much water and vinegar do you need ?
Half water and half vinegar in any kind of squirt bottle.
Kacey
I'm concerned it may bleach the carpet, would this be good with mud stains?
I have never seen vinegar and water bleach carpet, it's not a bleach. Getting the mud stains out depends how long it has been there, I would try a small area with a scrub brush but do it lightly and see if it comes out, you may have to do it a few times on and off during the week. Use in a spray bottle half water and half vinegar. Do let me know if the stains come out.

Will it leave the smell behind, kacey?
+MIldred Monsivais there's a possibility it could but the smell should go away
Yes it will. For maybe 2-3 days on carpet. Our cat pissed in our feather comforter. I drenched the thing in woolite and vinegar and let it sit in a large tub for 2 days then hosed it off and let it dry in the garage for 2 weeks. Vinegar smell disappeared after 2 additional weeks. So I think carpet will be okay :)
Ages ago I had to clean a mess left over by a drunk friend... To get the smell out I scrubbed the carpet with either bicarbonate of Soda or baking soda... Can't quite remember now. But I left it for a day (it also absorbed all the moisture from the cleaning). Then the next day I vacuumed up the powder and the smell was gone.
Does it even clean milkshake
Yes!
is white wine vinegar the same as white vinegar, i cant seem to find just white vinegar?

Ok thanks
Best way is to pour hydrogen peroxide only straight over the whole stain. Do not rub in. Leave and come back the Next morning your entire stain will be gone it does not change the color of your carpet. No scrubbing no dyes no worry's been doing it for years.
Great idea!
I had a red christmas tree blanket under the tree and on a beige carpet, the area is now pink....help....carpet guy used 'red out' and an iron....didn't help....I'll try vinegar next

Will this work for food coloring
+XxLittle_Sparkle_donutxX I'm not sure, you may have to keep working on it for a few days, it all depends what color it is. Let me know if it helped.

Try the vinegar method but you will need to scrub it for about 10 mins before you can start to see any results, let it sit for about 30 mins and try again. If this doesn't work consult with your local carpet cleaner.
I have apple cider vinegar will it work
Not sure, I use white vinegar, half vinegar and half water in any kind of squirt bottle. Thank you for watching my video, if you haven't already please subscribe.
