    A phenomenon that need no introduction, Artic Monkeys are platinum selling world dominating megastars today. They did the impossible and conquered America unlike many other British groups before them, and are selling out arenas and headlining iconic festivals like Glastonbury. But before they became what they are today, there were 4 bored teenagers from Sheffield who decided to start a band. Their story is a unique one, and you could even call them pioneers, utilising the internet and virality before the iPhone was even released. This video dives into the band's history - first instruments, their first gig, demo, single and iconic first record.

    I actually met Alex turner once, I washed the rims of his Vauxhall Meriva back in 2006 not long after the first album came out, he tipped me and invested into our family valeting business, he’s been an ambassador ever since, fantastic guy!

    I would love for them to release a direct sequel to Whatever people say. Basically how all us feel when we head down the town nowadays as 40 year olds. Night life died away, seeing the same old faces still trying their luck. Struggling to get a taxi as they are all doing uber eats. Trying to get a baby sitter or dealing with an ex wife etc.🤣

    Really cool play by play of their upbringing as artists, RUclips needs more AM content like this.
    I really love all their stuff even up to their new records, but something about their older music is just magical and I don’t expect to see replicated anytime soon.

    I almost didn't watch the video because of the mocking of their last project as elevator music. People grow up...can you imagine Alex at almost 40 singing about meeting a girl on the dancefloor? It's a pity about the introduction because it's a good, informative video about their formative years. Why can't people just be glad they had the Monkeys as they were in their early years and just let people enjoy what they are now?

    • @jason_jason_1

      Thanks for sticking it out - I don't mean to say their new stuff is bad, just that it's not for me and the more garage rock vibes are more my style, apologies if that didn't come across!

  • @lukerawkford3970
    @lukerawkford3970 10 месяцев назад +13

    I think every album from "Whatever people say I am that's what I'm not" to "Suck it and See" has its own little charming personality.
    It really soured after that.
    There's something about modern bands trying to sound heavy which never really works.
    Royal Blood and post-2013 Arctic Monkeys always seemed ridiculous because it's now-posh boys pretending to be Iron Maiden.

    • @JammerAma

      I actually think Suck It and See is kind of boring. The first three albums are amazing and AM has its moments but I genuinely don't like Suck it and See

    • @lukerawkford3970
      @lukerawkford3970 10 месяцев назад

      @JammerAna Suck it and See has some of their best songwriting, Alex Turner's voice sounds like Bowie in its best parts and it's poetic.
      AM is faux hard-rock made by guys who have just scored some ass in Vegas.

      @JammerAma 10 месяцев назад +2

    • @JammerAma
      @JammerAma 10 месяцев назад +2

      @lukerawkford3970 I think it's definitely Turner's most impressive vocal album, but I hard disagree on the songwriting. I hardly remembered it. But different strokes for different folks, I suppose. Favourite Worst Nightmare is still my favorite. I can tell you were coming at this pretty defensive but you genuinely don't have to. I'm not attacking your opinion. Just stating my own.

  • @cadan8790

    Their newer material is definitely not as good as their older stuff. It shouldn’t be an unpopular opinion, it should be fact. I’m young, I didn’t grow up with the monkeys, yet I prefer their older songs.I like a few of their newer songs but the first two albums, ALL songs are amazing.

    they are terrible now. beyond garbage. humbug has never been good but at the very least it was still listenable. imagine making albums like whatever and nightmare and then years later, completely disregarding the energy and angst behind them. i bet you look good on the dancefloor was europe's version of the smells like teen spirit craze back in the early 90s. to go from the possible next pulp/jarvis cocker to a lil bit more creative and guitar-oriented 1d/harry styles in not even 5 years after your debut is a whole ass joke in itself.

      they made music about pussy till the late 10s. then again am has never been about deep lyrics or an out of this world guitar solo but we still loved listening and jumping freely to it. they proved that pop music can be just as exciting and objectively good which is a huge feat only a few can really pull off.
      the mature sound they needed to find after fwn should've been more post-punk 80s new wave sounding instead of being influenced by that overdone stadium size 70s blues rock (fuck josh homme). i guess if you've always been a disgusting normie artist with simpleton needs such as caring about hits, sales, cars, dating models, big houses and suddenly looking like you own a whole place filled with exclusive clothes, suits and footwear (for the record: they have zero sense of style), then i guess they were always meant to be all about good ol' america anyway. case closed.
