I suffered with a few brutal panic attacks in my early twenties and the line ‘my family don’t seem so familiar’ always hits a nerve with me from those bad ones. It’s the most terrifying insane feeling having this shroud of darkness fall over you and feeling all alone while you fall head first into the void.

They were pretty big in the US, dude. They just kept fucking up their momentum and tours everytime they came through. They had excellent radioplay and their music videos were all over MTV.
Unfortunately, Oasis was their own worst enemy.

They weren’t “that big” in the US. They were competing with bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains, Green Day, Metallica. Go to the 1998 charts in America and you’ll find them nowhere. Even Noel Gallagher acknowledged they weren’t as big in America.

As someone who suffers from Panic Disorder (regular panic attacks) this is the song that describe my condition the best. It comes from knowhere, sometimes when I just getting to eat my dinner and when it comes it comes and you have to live through. I've never done drugs in my life. I developed panic disorder because I have a chronic illness and had a lots of pain and my brain couldn't handle it anymore but the end result is similar.
Edit: I should have started with this, it is a great analysis of the song and one of my favourite songs from Oasis.

I’ve loved this band since 96. It’s finally refreshing hearing an American talk about them. For the record. “Be Here Now” in my opinion has aged like fine wine. “Don’t Go Away” is one of the greatest songs ever written.

    2nd Night at Wembley 2000.
I already loved that song, had removed myself from the melee and crush at the front. Liam was so incomprehensible centre stage.
And then Gas Panic hits mid set.
That was the song where I looked out over the crowd, the cool breeze started to come in, the skies finally went dark with the summer sun receding and it all made sense. It was quite a moment.
