This song reminds of a horse i bought for $400 from an old horseshoer (spitting image of Gabby Hays) that was setting me up to take over his customers (due to health issues). I gave him $200 cash paid it off at $10 a head for trims and resets, $20 for full shoes. I laugh when i hear this song, both because of the theme of the song and that ol' horse.

I love this song! My first truck lasted 205,000 miles and 16 years - I turned her in with the engine dead... 4 on the floor and same clutch that I drove her out of the showroom with...
    Man I miss that truck😢

My dad cosigned for my first truck in 2000, 1987 2wd Jeep Comanche no power steering no a/c, worn out 2.5L straight 4, no radio, black vinyl bemch seat, tan after and before it was cool, full length decal stripe with "sport truck" in 3" tall lettering, lol. And I loved it, and when I had bought my next 4th hand Jeep Wagoneer my dad drove that Comanche until the floors rusted completely out

My first truck I got when I was 16 in 1996. A 1987 Jeep Comanche Sport Truck. I6 4.0l 5 speed manual. I still have it and this year started to restore it, including replacing the rusted out floorboards. Great trucks.

What a terrific song! I batted out the words...
    Man I Hated That Truck
    Dave Stamey
    Man I hated that truck
It let me down so many times
    I hated that truck
You hear them wheel bearings whine
And it seemed to be followed by a cloud
    Of rotten luck
    Man I hated that truck
    It knocked and pinged
'Til both my ears were sore
    I was sixteen
It was all I could afford
And the only speedy thing it ever did
    Was burn up my clutch
    Man I hated that truck
    And it sucked gas
Like it was goin' out of style
    It drank oil
Nearly two quarts to the mile
And it would overheat and leave you stranded
    Feelin' like a shmuck
    Man I hated that truck
    An old step side dodge
    from nineteen sixty three
    I swear to God
    that old truck hated me
Uh, the girls would all laugh
If I ever dared ask 'em for a date
    In that ol' crate
    Well it kept me broke
    Buyin' points plugs and wires
    it'd make you choke
    Cause it would smoke
    like it was on fire
And it would burn thru them recaps
Faster than grease thru a duck
    Man I hated that truck
    The years sputtered by
    like a slant six motor
    Computers replaced
    the old cap an' rotor
    And a-lately I been thinkin'
I sure would like to drive that truck again
    Like an old friend
    I remember now
    Shiftin' three on the tree
    I remember how
    It made me feel free
And tho I couldn't count on it at all
    At least not too much
    Kinda miss that truck
    Points plugs and wires
    I miss that truck
Nearly two quarts to the mile
    I miss that truck

Yep. Good song. And as bad as that truck sounds, my first was worse. A twenty year old Fiat. In the two years I had it I think every moving part fell off, and half the non moving parts. To replace the starter cost $100. When I got a Ford, same thing was $20. Apparently these things are a standard required course in the college of hard knox

Mine was a '66 Datsun...pretty much held together with baling wire and bungee cords.
Points burned out on a regular basis and I never bought new tires or batteries, because a friend of mine worked at a tire shop and gave me the old ones that from vehicles the richer folks had replaced.
I treated it like a 4x4 so I got it stuck often...had another friend with a real 4x4 pull me out numerous times.
And I miss that stupid old truck.

My first truck was a 51 Studebaker with a 427 B&M Dragmaster, 411 rear end. I loved that truck. That was in 1968. Sold it before I left for Southeast Asia, that wonderful vacation land called South Vietnam. Wasn’t sure I would make it back so I sold it so it wouldn’t be a burden on my folks.

My first truck was a flathead '52 Dodge flatbed. The cab was so tight I couldn't work the pedals. It was given to me, so I gave it away to a smaller guy.

My first truck was a 1970 f100 custom with the 361 engine, wide wheel base, and extended bed. Spent more time underneath it trying to make the transmission hold together than i did in the cab it seemed.

I know the feeling. My first vehicle was a 1941 Chevy pickup that I paid 50 dollars for. The bed was rusted through, the tires were bald, it burned oil like crazy. Good thing gas was only about 27 cents a gallon. I loved that truck😘

My first truck was a 1970 F100 4x4 with 4 on the floor. First gear was granny. Not as troublesome as Dave’s but it needed it’s fair share of work. But still I miss that truck too. Especially because it was the rig I drove my wife to be around in.

I turned 16 in January and about a month ago I traded an over and under TriStar and $2500 for a 81 k20 with a 350, 4 speed and a flat bed. Ive now mounted a Montezuma tool box and made it into my farrier pickup and it works great!
