THIS was the song of the summer 2003. The thrills may have been forgotten, but nobody can take this fact away. It was played everywhere. song of the summer.
Where were you located at that time? The reason I ask is because I remember “One Horse Town” being played a lot. First time I heard it Target was playing the video in their electronics section in 2004.
Me and a bunch of mates went to Leeds festival back in 2003. I remember this track playing on someone’s portable CD player which was hooked up to shitty speakers next to our tents. The weather was hot, the beers were flowing, the banter was next level and I just remember thinking nothing will top that moment. Not one care in the world, everyone was together (not knowing it would be the last time) and I remember as clear as day that I would never forget this moment…and I never have.
Shit, man. I wish I was 18 again like when this came out. My mates, some joints and beer, then off to the indie disco where they'd always play this when I asked them. Partying without consequence, full health and a smile it was impossible to wipe off my face, fucking awesome days!
markwinsprizes83 f*cking ditto brother! Full health not a worry in the world! Only where I was getting my next 20 bag from and listening to great indie bands, so under rated but I did love this song had some crappy job but I’d go back in a heartbeat 👌
One of my late brother's favourite songs. I now have his music collection. RIP Allan. Your fashion taste was questionable, but your musical taste certainly was not.
At the end of summer 2003 I was preparing for one of the greatest adventures of my life… thank you Thrills for composing a part of the soundtrack of that year. 😢 I want back those years
This song transports me straight back to 2003 - we had a long hot summer in the UK, and listening to this on my headphones I imagined I was in California. It's still my tune of choice when the weather is nice twenty years later. Me and my best mate interviewed The Thrills a couple of years after when they were promoting their second album - we realised they had the most ironic name of all time for a band. They were possibly the most dull people I have ever met!
It has taken me 16 years to find The Thrills with Big Sur. Heard it on mtv back in 2003.. but I didn't caught the name. After much search I finally can listen to these sweet tones again! :D
Ha! Same here! All I could remember is it had a 60s vibe and in the video they were walking on a beach. Today it randomly popped up on my Spotify after all these years.
This record is brilliant. It has those irresistible Beach Boys California melodies and harmonies, with that Celtic twang. Surely a recipe for nostalgia anytime I listen to this, while driving in the town where I was born and raised, San Diego.
Seen a pictute on the chromecast of Baja California Sur. Start humming this. Then here i am transported back almost 20 years. One of Irelands most underrated bands. 🇮🇪
The whole 'New Rock Revolution' scene boomed after 9-11, and then collapsed again after the financial crisis. These bands would be hyped by the NME, and get a sync on The OC, regardless of whether they were talented or not. A handful of bands managed to forge a long-standing legacy out of it (The White Stripes, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and possibly Interpol), but most of them were dropped in 2008. The Thrills deserve a reappraisal further down the line. I hope they get one.
For conventional success you have to stick around, push for lots of shows, on top of being good. As far as I am concerned, they added beauty to the world, and went back to their lives, success for them, happiness to me :)
Wow, just 20 years old, driving back from the beach one day, the sun was coming down a bit like in the video, this song was on the radio, I was still at University. I'm 29 now. Time...she goes.
Summer of 03 I was 4 I can remember going to Curracloe Beach in Wexford and I was in the back of my fathers Toyota Carina E when this song just came out been trying to find it for years and just found it today and just closed my eyes and thinking about that sunny Sunday evening in the summer of 2003 where have the years gone
Been a HUGE Thrills fan ever since high school, now 33. I've listened to, and played, an enormous amount of music in all those years, and I have to say the Thrills were, and still are, one of the most distinctive sounding rock and roll bands of my lifetime. I realize their sound is kind of weird and it's not for everyone; they had their little moment, and then they were gone just as quickly as they appeared. But love them or hate them, you really can't deny that there exists a distinctive "Thrills" sound that really is unlike any other band I've ever heard. There's an added layer of mystique from the fact that they remain rather obscure, never hitting it big, despite their first album having this really really ambitious "HERE WE ARE WORLD, WE'RE THE THRILLS, WE'RE GOING TO BLOW YOUR MINDS" attitude - there's almost a sadness to the singer's voice like he knows his dreams are unrealistic. Really intriguing music.
ADAM love yr words ,this CD,was sent to me by my limerick (d j ) friend while i,lived in Barcelona, & i,just taught at fxxking last some great music is happining in In Ireland, and loved that cal.la sleepy sound, when i,played to my friends ,they were shocked that they were Irish,NO they must be West cost band,No there Paddys,,,I,lived in LA then,im sure yv read my post before .eg ART.styling etc,cas that was my job for many years,Tanks Adam
Everytime I hear this song it's summer again in my body and I'm walking the abandoned streets back home as I did so many times before at 5 o'clock in the morning, flying on a still soft warm summer breeze in Playa del Inglés, Canary Islands. Like laying in the sea, dip in veins, feeling so good, feeling so fine, so high & hit.
The Goodwill I worked at had this song in their rotation back in like 2017, 2018. Had never heard it before that, and really never heard it anywhere else. Truly a hidden gem.
Boy, does this take me back! I was 12 when this song came out and I remember hearing it all the time back then and loving it. I never knew the name of the song or the band, and with my english being fairly limited at the time, I couldn't really understand much of the lyrics. For almost the last 20 years, the melody has popped into my head from time to time and in those moments I've always hated that I haven't been able to look it up and give it a proper listen. Well, tonight I heard it on the radio for the first time since back then and I've never been so quick to Shazaam a song. Needless to say, I still love it
65rowan I done exactly the same , I was on a road trip from San Fran drove down Pacific coast road 1. Stopped at half moon bay, Big Sur, Santa Cruz, then into Monterey stayed 1 night to see the cannery and aquarium. Then onto Santa Barbara, Ventura, Malibu and into Santa Monica.
I would listen to the thrills everyday coming home from school as a kid. We gradually stopped listening to them and I haven't been able to find this song in years !
This video is a trip. I remember thinking this song was a belter but none of the other stuff quite held up. Still though, many great memories of this one. Adds to summer 2023 playlist 😅
Ahhh..;I'am 44 ..;much too old but what a song..either you like it or you don't the 60's.... well, one day everyone wil like the music;;; love to everyone
What a summer, spent it playing in pub bands around London in the company of girls ordinarily out of my league - the stuff that get you through a rough week when older.
this has been played in my local asda twice in the past 2 weeks....I sing along....but I've also witnessed others whistling and singing along as they shop

Definitely The OC too lol

Rip to your brother 🙏
He had great taste! What a band..takes me back to good times! Enjoy it like he did bro👍
Mark Jabroni Sorry to hear about your brother. Was a quality tune. Take care
It's mental that they were/are so underrated. They were a class act, deserved far more than they got.
Their music has held the test of time
Would you recommend a particular album?
@@TheIanoTube So Much For The City ☆☆☆☆☆
They only had one good album and they never bettered it.
The singer is weak like Wayne from Flaming Lips.

i really like how people are still viewing and commenting on this video, its kind of reassuring me that the thrills haven't been completely forgotten.

I cannot understand how such a great band like The Thrils is not going around the world. Amazing music, pity they are no longer together.
+Mariana Figueredo Hope they get back together and make some new music, their music is really good
+Mariana Figueredo the fate of many Irish bands - stuck on an island, have to break UK/USA before they get famous - not easy!
Mariana Figueredo its cuz they are all dead
