      TrKzAsSaSsIn lol 🤣 your commen had me in stitches ......... The wood was clean he just wanted to get the webbing off it so that is why he did that. Also I don't think he wanted to wet it causing more damp /mold. So glad you wrote that comment though literally made my day 🤣.

    If you want to be mold free you have to pasteurize the substratum and wood log in a pressure cooker for 1 hour to kill bacteria and fungus. because dirt is naturally contaminated, Alternatively you can put them in an oven, if you do not wish to use water. Bleach also fills fungus but will not be good for the spider. Look for a mushroom cultivation video, for substratum pasteurization. Good Luck!

    Do you have springtails and/or isopods in there? If not, get some. They will definitely help with any mold issues and will help keep the enclosure clean.

    • @ExoticsLair
      @ExoticsLair  7 лет назад +7

      I had isopods but totally forgot about them. The substrate dried out and they died lol.
      but it's fine because Balfouris don't require damp substrate. Gonna keep this one dry from now and (hopefully) we shouldn't experience mold growth.

    You can also put a load of substrate in the oven and dry it by about 50 - 70 degree for some hours, stiring it from time to time. With higher temperatures people also use this method to sterilise Rocks or sand to use for their pets.

    I had a mould outbreak in my crested geckos vivarium 😪 I didn’t notice it because he has this weird little log thing with loads of branches for him to sit on which is also a hide, the mould started under the hide so I didn’t see it at first and I found it when it had gotten quite bad, it’s horrible being an owner and finding mould in their enclosures

  • @lyonwolfy6783
    @lyonwolfy6783 5 лет назад

    I was thinking about the mold. Could it be you leave wet substrate for to long? Drying it out may dry the substrate however spores can still form until later when you spray the T. Dry dens may still have spores
