    I hate those yellow mold! (A few people told me that it’s not mold, though.. but some kind of mushroom spore). They will randomly appear, even when substrate is dry.

    Looks like the mycelium of Leucocoprinus luteus, often called the "coconut fiber mushroom", the spores come in with coconut fiber, I get infestations all the time in my enclosures. If you microwave or otherwise sterilize the substrate with heat before using it in your enclosures, the spores should be killed off and you shouldn't have these infestations anymore. :) As it is, every enclosure you have that uses unsterlized coco fiber can have a breakout of this fungus at any time.

      Invertebrate Dude I use Canna coco professional, I use it for my plants as well as my T's, its good shit. I've not had mold once and its fairly cheap for a 50 litre bag. Much better quality than coco bricks

    • @PghFlip

      if you moisten the bedding and then microwave until steaming and dry, you'll have achieved 100 DegC or more so you should be ok.

      Kåre Wijk mine wasn't severe but since I introduced her to my tarantulas, she slowly lost her fear and actually began liking them.

  • @DR-gt2vh
    @DR-gt2vh 6 лет назад

    To avoid mold you could try to
    - improve ventilation in the enclosures
    - use other substrat/mixure
    - install a drainage-layer under the substrate
    - put springtails/isopods in substrate
    - try lower humidity (if the spider is comfortable with it)

    I highly recommend springtails and white wooodlice. I have all these in my more moist enclosures like dolichothele bolivianum or cyriocosmus sp and never had any mold issues. Also, not a fan of coco fibre, i rather use organic soil from the woods, maybe mixed with clay for burrowing species.

    I had the same problem.
    Had to rehouse most of my tropical Tarantulas. I think there where spores in one of my coco bricks. For years it was all fine, and suddenly this abomination was taking over half of my enclosures :)

  • @mengarooo3149
    @mengarooo3149 6 лет назад

    Problem might re-occur also after adding new substrate as spores may be on the T’s itself. I found my small enclosures housing slings and juveniles get that kind of mold a lot. Might be not enough airflow and drainage. My latest enclosures have clay beads and activated carbon for drainage and lots of venting. So far no yellow mold.
