If you put rubber feet on the bottom of the enclosure it will not cover the air vents, that is how I stack mine. Not trying to tell you how to do your own, just what I do, just sharing!
Great idea!!
Yes! They have clear ones that I use so it looks like it’s all meant to be that way. 😊
Looove keeping up with your videos! My sons been fighting arachnophobia. We raised a regal sling which helped tremendously. She just passed from old age and the first thing he said the next morning was that he wanted a tarantula for his birthday! After tons of research and watching your videos, he picked out a grammostola pulchra sling. He wants to be able to watch it grow like our regal and potentially have it around for more years that way. Thanks for helping so many fight that fear and raising awareness! ❤
That commercial was awesomely hilarious 😂 😃. I loved it ❤
we had too much fun lol
Soooo cringe LOL
I almost always pass up sponsors, but this one was so funny, I rewound it to watch it again. It was so much like those crazy late night infomercials. I’d always watch sponsors if more creators made it interesting to watch, like Super Bowl ads. 😂
TK to spider: You're not an arboreal!
Spider: Hold my beer!
Your ad that you did was awesome, the wife and I both laughed!
Absolutely LOVED the commercial! 😂 Also learned something new about the fungus. I just had to clean out one of my enclosures with the same issue. After you mentioned the ventilation I immediately switched that enclosure to be on top instead of bottom of a stack.
I had a mushroom grow recently in one of my tarantulas enclosures. I fed it to my isopods!
Funny you should say, my G Pulchra has buried itself for over a month. Like the noob that I am I got worried and dug it up which prompted it to rather angrily bury itself and its plump rump again. Yah, pre-moult.
About fungus: I had this issue in my L Parahybanas enclosure. I didn't understand it since conditions were beneficial in there. Little did I know that a food item had buried itself in the soil and promptly died. In turn we had fungal galore and a rehouse. I'm also happy about the fact that mr TK will be an recurring fixture in your videos. Take care and stay safe👍.
Using springtails is supposed to help with mold,I’m sure you knew, love the videos, just watching helped me with my fear and having more respect thanks, I’m now not afraid of the jumping spiders on my patio
I have that same fungus in my isopod bin (even with tons of springtails). Loved the new infomercial lol
Amazing commercial ! Was actually a joy to watch lol
the commercial was adorable ^^
from what I know, you can try boiling water to rinse or steam the enclosure for some time(don't know exactly how long unfortunately). Heat will kill off the fungus and spores so you can prevent it from growing.
Glad you got rid of the mold 😊
Great video as usual! Thanks Kat!
Best sponsorship segment EVER 😂 👏
I would like you to do every ad I ever see for the rest of my life 😂
I'm not a conspiracy theorist 🧐 but it seems to me your little ceramic mushrooms are summoning the fungus gods for a blessing
My a seemanni has the same fungus, I’m going to clean out the enclosure and start fresh! Thank you for today’s video 🖤
Great Job Mr. TK the ad had me entertained. 😂😂😂
Hello! When you face fungus problem, you need to clean the enclosure somewhere far away from where you keep your tarantulas and disinfect it(very important). If not you may be surprised the fungus will return...
Great video!! But the commercial introduction was new and really really really great!!! you guys did an awesome job on that as well. 🙃🕷️🕸️
Great vid Kat n the sponsor vid was funny, luved it
That shirt is everything tho😮
Hi Kat! Brilliant wee video and revamp/husbandry/mould removal. Yeah, I agree that it’s ventilation issues, should be good to go now 😊😊
Im in Sydney,Australia. I have 36 Australian old worlds. We have over 50 different species and more being discovered. I get the yellow fungus when it's too damp, I believe. But an Arachnid scientist told me this happens a lot in the wild.He said that a tarantula will move if fungus gets too bad or burrow deeper. But any spider has no issues moving house. It's all about temperature and food. He said a burrowing any spider in 5cm, it doesn't have to be 10cm. As long as temperature is right. If you give it a deep substrate, of course, it will go down deep, but you'll never see it.
That fungus happens in my house plants sometimes. Apparently it’s from the organic matter in potting soil
Shadow it literally so cute and just the bestest boy! I wasnt expecting to see him today
What about a Salem plushie like soon soon? 👀
Use springtails for molds 😊
this is not mold, it's Leucocoprinus birnbaumii, totally not affecting t's. Never change the substrate even thou i had this in the enclosure.
Thanks for like 👍 tarantula kat
Love the shirt! Was it a special order? Where?
I'm dying over the retro ad 💀
😂 jumped over here so quick lol ❤❤❤
Commenting to support Mr. Tarantula Kat’s move to bug screen (supposed to be big screen but autocorrect said what it said and it’s not wrong) anyways yay!!🎉🎉🎉
do you not like using the clay balls/mesh technique that some people use - with the reasoning that it controls the moisture? just curious if it's not your preference or just not applicable/appropriate for the enclosures you're setting up?
🤷🏼♀️🌟🍄
I've seen people use those for enclosures a lot larger than these, but it's possibly overkill for cribs this small
You can sterilize soil, cork, and other wood iterms by baking them in the over at 250* for two-hours.
Your videos are always so awesome! 🕷♥️♥️🕷
My obt enclosure is developing mold and I’m really not wanting to rehouse it 😂
Yes fungus is horrible looking, so I tend to try and clear it out myself too. So I will add more ventilation if needs be, but it doesn't always come to it.
Cool promotional advert you did, but unfortunately I'm in the UK, but never mind.
Cool video
It's not dangerous. Ask our friend Jessica Tietz from Marshall Arachnids. She has knowledge about this type of fungus. ❤
wouldn't both springtails and dwarf white isopods help control flower pot fungus in moist environments while not representing a danger to the tarantula?
So question:
Would it not be beneficial (also more work) if you spread the soil you are going to use on a big pan and cook it in an oven. That should kill all the spores and have a very very low risk of it growing at all. Is that an option or would that kill beneficial microbes in the soil?
Great video
I just went & unstacked !!!
I've never had anymore outbreaks once I sucked it up and started using biodude tarantula soil
The commercial is cute lmao
What I really need to know is where Kat’s shirt is from 😍
Hot topic!
Well all those Mushrooms you have are summoning their Magic Mushroom God in your house.......REPENT! 😋
That's what I call mycelium takeover. Can happen with some substrates when they get moist. And can grow mushrooms
Sensacional como sempre!❤🇧🇷
What is good kat awesome video today you are the best and the greatest RUclipsr ever and happy Thursday 💯💪👍👍💪💯
Persistent little bugger lol
I do all my T enclosures 'bioactive', that is, with compost worms and isopods. They feed on all the mould. Never have encountered such a problem. I've got a bit of algae growing deep on the sides now n then but that's all. Ofc it works better in bigger, adult enclosures.
I'm very (very very very) afraid of mold and fungus. I don't plan on getting any species that require a moist environment, but do you think it's a certainty that I'll run into mold anyway? Is it an inevitability? I'm nervous about it...
I'm the same.
there's no way to lock these enclosures? my Smithi would break out of these right away. She even fiddles around with the homemade lock I have on the sliding doors on her enclosure until she gets it open and wander around the house
You probably already know this, but get one of those sprayers of peroxide from any drugstore or grocery store--ow I skinned my knee grade, not "food" or hair bleaching grade. Don't spray your boop, and maybe remove them if you can, but spraying around them will PROBABLY be ok--it just becomes H20 after all the fizzing, fungi-killing fun starts. I have not had this in enclosures, but I've had it when cultivating certain lifeforms. It's not a guaranteed cure, but it will knock that fungi back pretty hard. More air circulation just as you said IMO.
Fungus among us
I've been wondering for a while now.. I mostly follow snakes related channels, and they use tons of springtails, isopods, they also usually boil leaves, corks, twigs, bake the dirt and so on.
Now, my question is, doing aaaaall this work would be beneficial even for tarantulas? Especially in this case to not risking having any fungus growing again, would you prefer "sterilizing" everything or keep it like now?
I don't really want to start to discuss deeply about the implications, what is right, what is this or that, but was just wondering, that's all. ^^
(Most of the stuff I've mentioned above can be found already sterilized, I came to understand, but some still prefer to do couple things by themselves.)
Baking etc is kind of pointless because it kills off everything. Including anything 'good' that might already be colonising something and would otherwise prevent something 'bad' taking hold. Easily seen with those reptile java branches - fungal spores are abundant in the air around us. Add a little warmth, and some moisture, and a 'sterile' branch and whatever lands there first, or is strongest in that environment, takes over. Springtails are useful, but only if the enclosure is moist enough to support the population - and then they are more for managing growths from a bolus or such, rather than full colonisation of something that was stripped clean.
The best thing is to not keep everything permanently moist, but allow bits to dry out, and remove waste whenever possible. If an issue shows in an enclosure, moving the water dish can help so any spillage isn't contributing, and that area can dry out.
*Most* fungus is harmless to tarantulas *most* of the time. In the case of the former, there are species of fungus specialised for certain animals - these should be rarely encountered, especially in captive bred tarantulas (which should be the tarantulas people are getting). Regarding the latter, less is certain in that area and it's one I'm currently hoping to research further - the most vulnerable times when it comes to non specialised fungus will most likely be during molting. I'm also considering whether younger tarantulas, whose cuticle is not yet fully developed, may be vulnerable to a lesser degree than during a molt but more than one who is further developed.
Is there a reason you don’t use springtails?
Where did you get this bluse !? 😍
Hiii kat
You can't spell fungus without FUN. 🍄
And you'll have to repeat the process in a few months, lol.
If my tank opens on the top and my pink toe tarantula builds a web on the lid, is it okay to destroy the web. Otherwise I can’t get in his tank
My terrarium literally grows mushrooms from a branch that I have and I'm worried about the health of my tarantula , what should I do?
Would baking the substrate help to kill the spores?
Some say they just stir it in! So probably!
What substrate should I use for very humid enclosure
Come on little guy or girl, your mom's trying to save you
use cinnamon for its anti-fungal properties.
Currently dealing with this in a Togo Starburst Baboon enclosure..... Man I dont want to rehouse that spicy butt head.
Hi trantula kat
i know you already know your stuff, i've done Ts and herps about 30 years, but i like Dave's vid on humidity, i tend too go too heavy with the moisture sometimes. Great commercial lol.

You're talking to a guy who watches the thing way too much.
Who was in electrical?!
What are you trying to do... inform people on what to do or what not to do... so confusing... if your doing something, do it right... especially when it comes to taking care of life. Maybe your room would look good would fungus and mold growing all over it... or would you clean it properly so its gone and doesn't come back. Mold and fungus is serious, not something to joke about.
I can tell you didn’t pay attention to the video at all. Mold and fungus spores exist in substrate and natural environments naturally. It is not near as harmful as it is just ugly. Please educate yourself thank you 😊
@@tarantulakat ohhh because its "natural" its perfecty safe. I got it thanks! Education is free and I educate myself everyday on things. thank you! have a great day!
@@tarantulakat a quick clean, a few rinses and a good air dry go a long wayyy... jus sayin. educate people with your platform. no need to expose you and your animals to mold and fungus and save money not wasting substrate. that is all...
@@tarantulakat Design a breeding environment without any base material, cut the Styrofoam to shape the tunnel, and put the Styrofoam into the bottom of the breeding environment.
Springtails will be your MVP! Even in my 4" 360° cribs with slings I have a small havoc group of springtails. 🥷🪳
They also give some visual activity to your "pet hole" enclosure!! 😅
Also with no access to the "specialist substrate" here downunder, I make my own mix.. always including small-sized bits of filter carbon and sphagnum moss, to help the substrate be aerated and give little alcoves to springtails and other microscopic critters. Bit like an ABG mix but less chunkiness as all my critters are young-uns.
At 5.30 was there a little spider on the box, just as kat is putting back the tarantula???
