Oh my gosh, almost 2k views and almost 200 likes, thank you guys so much!
I seem to have stumbled across this niche community to make cool vids for.
I want to do more of these, but we don't break out into argument too much, so these will probably be few and far between.

Holy cow, 10k views. Most viewed video now!
Thank goodness, my most viewed video for 4 years sucked lol.
McDonald's dictates when breakfast is, that's why I sat in my car for 30 minutes for chicken nuggets
Ehh I don’t know.
Nuggies
the reason dinner can be in the midday is because some places call the meal that we call lunch “dinner”, and what we call dinner they call “supper”. they just have no lunch
Ah, so that's a culture thing, that makes sense
OBJECTION!
I’m sorry, but that’s not quite right.
While it’s true that in many places the "dinner" is used to describe the midday meal rather than the evening meal, this is caused by differences in dining habits. It isn’t simple dialectical quirk as your comment, likely unintentionally, implies.
Dinner is, by definition, substantial. It’s the big one. The time you eat it is entirely irrelevant. If it’s the main meal, it’s a dinner. Period.
Supper, on the other hand, is (like lunch) SOLELY defined by when it is eaten. It is always in the evening, and when it isn’t dinner, it is often rather small.
This, of course, means that if the only meal you eat in a day is eaten at around midday, you are simultaneously eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner. (And if the only meal you eat is in the evening, you are simultaneously eating breakfast, dinner, and supper.)
Yeah, I'm from Brazil, we eat a really light breakfast, usually just a liquid like coffee and bread and butter, it's even called 'morning coffee' (café da manhã), at noon we have our dinner, the main meal of the day, we fill our plates, when evening arrives we eat a lighter version of our dinner, but still, a very heavy meal, in some regions we just eat a dinner 2: electric boogaloo, an identical meal to the dinner. Some people eat an afternoon lunch, a lighter meal, usually just fruits and biscuits accompanied by a juice or even coffee.
When I was leaning english I always wondered why the hell would you call the main meal of the day 'lunch', since we have a similar word, 'lanche', which means fast food, later on I discovered this was due to cultural differences, and I still can't understand why the fuck would you eat your main meal in the evening, how the hell would you go with your day without passing out starving
@@saoirse4976 Yeah, eating your main meal in the middle of the day makes more sense lol
Yes, eaither lunch or supper can be the main meal of the day.
Edgeworth is correct on all fronts. Fight me.
I 100% agree, with no bias whatsoever :P
Agreed.

Breakfast is the first meal you eat in a day, regardless of the time
Hence the name

As in, you're breaking your fast
So if i eat my lunch when i just wake up its considered breakfast?
If I only have 1 meal, is that dinner or breakfast or can it be both
@@EvilMeganium yes.
@@kk28262484 breakfast
Ah, but what about second breakfast?
Nobody expects Breakfast 2: Electric Boogaloo!
I eat 3 breakfasts, One is Air, the second is a sandwich, and the third is decided by a rat when he's drunk at a party, what he blinks in morse code is what I eat.
But breakfast is the **first** meal of the day so second breakfast doesn’t exist
@Teetu Sampath yeah
That is called brunch.
As an asian, breakfast is DEFINITELY THE TIME. Mostly coz we still eat leftovers from last night in the morning.
As an Asian, I dunno why I didn't think of eating leftovers :(
Breakfast:first meal
Lunch: the meal eaten around noon
Dinner: the main meal, or biggest meal of the day
None of those are exclusive of each other
So I'd you eat a single meal, each day at noon, it is all three simultaneously???

This is the first one I've seen where they're on the same side
The best part of this was the revelation that, because lunch is at noon, and dinner can also be at noon, you can have lunch and dinner in one meal. In fact, if your first meal of the day is at noon, it can be breakfast, lunch, and dinner all in one.
Breakfast- The first
Lunch- Beetween larger consumptions, and taken at midday, informal
Dinner- The main, taken at midday, formal
But having a three-course meal isn’t the same thing as three distinguished meals, no?
I love how calm and serious this discussion is.
edit: I take back the serious part
FINALLY an actual intellectual debate instead of idiots screaming at each other lmao. also phoenix having an existential crisis over breakfast for dinner was something i didn't necessarily need in my life but it was great nonetheless
Phoenix: Is breakfast the *food* or the *time*
Edgeworth: *Yes*
Breakfast IS important meal of the day.
"breakfast for dinner" has three meanings
1. breakfast food at dinnertime
2. breakfast is your main meal
3. you are eating your breakfast at a time where you would normally be eating dinner.
Also, it's technically impossible to skip breakfast in the sense that you can't skip a meal that breaks your fasting by eating at a later time, so breakfast is unavoidable unless you starve yourself to death. Fun :)
"Breakfast is unavoidable unless you starve yourself to death"
Sounds like a challenge 👀
Breakfast is the first meal of the day... So... If you don't eat for a whole day, you skipped the breakfast for that day :0
I like this objection.lol because its not really an argument, but a discussion. It's different.
Counter-argument
is is culturally accepted that many greasy-spoons and cafes particularly in the U.K have an 'all-day breakfast' menu. this implies a cultural acceptance that 'breakfast food' is indeed a catagory or adjective given to food items. this is further evidenced by the almost jarring similarites/identicalities between menus that serve an 'all-day breakfast'.
in addition; one such dish is colloqually refered to as a 'full english breakfast'. that is the meal's NAME
'A full breakfast is a substantial cooked breakfast meal often served in the UK and Ireland that typically includes bacon, sausages, eggs, black pudding, baked beans, tomatoes and mushrooms, toast and a beverage such as coffee or tea.'~ google. this btw is an example of TRUE british cuisine. furthermore it is not uncommon for an english breakfast to be a dinnertime meal, even when home-cooked. a full english you see generally provides a good balance of food groups...even is if is a bit on the fried and fatty side.
the prosecution rests
"black pudding"
Yo I dont want my breakfast to destroy all my non magical items thats bs

Jon: Breakfast, lunch and dinner are three SEPERATE meals. They are NOT intended to run together!
Garfield: Do you just make this stuff up to depress me?
The French have their main meal in the middle of the day. That's why dinner and lunch are both refered to as midday meals.
Phoenix : *not asking a yes or no question*

The first time I encounter the breakfast debate was when I played Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones.
IMO breakfast is defined by time relative to your sleep, not the time of day. I would say any meal eaten within the first 3 hours (exclusive, not inclusive) is breakfast. On the other hand, lunch is SOLELY time-of-day based (with the stipulation that breakfast qualifiers override lunch qualifiers). A non-breakfast meal eaten from 11:30 - 3:59 is lunch. Dinner is a substantially-sized evening/night meal. Meals other than these three have room to exist (brunch, a second dinner, etc.).
Fun aside: so by my definitions, if you work an early morning shift or something crazy and wake up at like 4 AM but don't eat until 9 or 10 AM (5-6 hour timespan), you would not be eating breakfast despite eating your first meal at standard breakfast hours. I guess I would call that brunch or something.
In some parts of the world, Lunch and Dinner are the same thing, just different words for them. Other parts of the world do the same thing with Dinner and Supper aka the evening meals, so I wonder if Google assumed Dinner was Lunch.
for me it’s set by hours because in Spain we eat like four\five times a day, breakfast from when u wake up to 10: 30-11ish, then brunch until 12: 30
( although it can be just breakfast if u don’t wake up early tbh), lunch until 5pm, after that we have this thing called ‘merienda’ which is like a second breakfast in terms of food i guess? and lastly dinner around 8-9pm
Brunch: Allow me to introduce myself
Depends on the reference time zone.

I’m also disappointed into this community
Time is an illusion.
Lunch time doubly so.
Eating breakfast food at a later just seems better to me because in the morning your taste buds might be still half asleep and you might not fully enjoy the meal. In my family, we sometimes eat French toast we get from a neighbor at dinner on weekends. It’s the best.
This is super late, but breakfast is the sum of it's parts. You eat breakfast foods at breakfast time, but you don't usually eat something like pizza at breakfast time, or eat pancakes at dinnertime, and call either breakfast. Eating breakfast foods at breakfast times makes breakfast, and you can't have one without the other.
What counts as breakfast foods are entirely dependent on the household, but if you consider pizza dinner food, then eating it during breakfast time wouldn't make it breakfast.
I like either the other friend was doing something else or he was just watching without interacting
I broke my fast with pizza at like 12 pm
I eat the third meal of the day as something I would eat for breakfast and vice versa.
Look if I'm waking up at 853pm and eating chicken and Wafflez, it's breakfast. And yes, am an alcoholic.
When I'm not working I like to sleep late, so the first meal of the day is like 12:30, maybe 1 or 2. It's still breakfast because it's the first meal of the day and I usually eat quote unquote breakfast food. Breakfast for dinner literally means you're eating breakfast FOOD for dinner. Edgeworth was 100% correct on this. A lot of people do intermittent fasting these days, so it may be afternoon when they eat the first time. At that point I think it's a preference. They can eat breakfast if they want or call it lunch.
For people from other continents
Here in LatinoAmerica
Here to the breakfasts that are heavy, call us:
Champion's breakfast
Now I'm hungry for breakfast food anyway, I'm going to go eat
Breakfast is wether youve had a meal yet
Poor souls. Forgetting that these definitions were based around the average of people waking up at 7 am and sleeping at 10pm.
all I got out of this is that I could really go for some eggs
Lunch is dinner, confirmed.
To me, breakfast is the first thing you eat in the day. If you have breakfast after 12 pm, it's brunch, which is a type of breakfast.
Breakfast is the first meal you have after sleeping. Hence the term break fast. So if you went to bed really late, and woke up at 1:00 pm before eating, your afternoon meal is breakfast. It's the first meal of the day, regardless of what you eat, even though most people do have it in the morning, with certain foods like cereal, or eggs, or whatever.
In German, the word ‘Sie’ can mean ‘she’, ‘they’, or a polite ‘you’. It all depends on the verb used.
English is a Germanic language, meaning it stems from German and similar languages. By this logic, Edgeworth's “definition by [removing the other option]” debate...
Is correct!
Uh I have breakfast at 12:30 pm, dinner at 6 pm, and supper at 12 - 1am
Breakfast is generally the meal someone eats upon waking up. Simply calling it "the first meal of the day" makes it seem like someone may eat breakfast late in the evening if it's the first thing they eat. However, that feels odd to say, because I'd normally eat breakfast soon after waking up, and I tend to wake up before 4 PM.
I wouldn't eat breakfast at night, I'd either eat dinner if it's something like pizza, or what I'm specifically eating if it's a breakfast food like cereal.
I can eat steak or chicken for breakfast if I like, if I'm eating it when I wake up. But if I wake up 'round the time it gets dark, I wouldn't be having it for breakfast, rather lunch, dinner or supper. Or I'm just eating food.
If the first meal you ate during the day was a light, informal meal and was the only (and thus the main) meal of the day, could it be said that you ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner simultaneously?
i dont care what time of the day i eat something as long as i eat it
you can eat anything anytime if its worth your while you can conclude that as your breakfast or etc
TAKE THAT!
I just realised Phoenix's paper animation doesn't have an Edgeworth equivalent. Bc he doesn't need to check his notes, he's just that good.
If breakfast is really the first meal you eat in the day, then I just only be eating breakfast if I actually get food.
I never eat oops.
Me throughout the entire video:
*just let edgeworth eat his breakfast Phoenix*
Breakfast is an adjective.
Problem solved.
Don’t you dare question it-
Breakfast is dependent on when you wake up and to a small degree the food. There is breakfast food (cereal, waffles, pop tarts etc) but if you wake up at 5:00 PM and have a steak, that’s technically your breakfast.
Breakfast has a regular definition and a culinary definition. Regular definition is first meal of the day. Culinary definition is the foods we call breakfast foods. When you eat breakfast for dinner, you are using the culinary definition. When you say your going to get breakfast, it could be either definition, in order to make a difference between the two, people say "breakfast foods" instead of just breakfast as the culinary definition, so saying both breakfast for dinner or breakfast foods for dinner is right
I'm watching this at 1:50PM and I'm about to eat breakfast.
hUh
I love this objection.lol because it has logical reasoning and is rational
This was surprisingly civilised
Ok, I know this video is a bit old at this point. But I just wanted to say the following:
Here in Chile (and I believe in most of South America too) often instead of having dinner, we have something called "eleven" (yes, as in the number 11), that's essentially breakfast food at dinner time. AKA, toast, eggs, coffee/tea, etc... It's essentially the same type of meal, but with a different name, at a different time.
And no, we don't have it at 11:00 PM. And yes, we sometimes have dinner instead
That's super interesting!
What about second breakfast? What about elevensies? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper?
breakfast
Breakfast is what you eat after you wake up
Whatever does it contain and whatever is the time
I usually eat cereal after waking up around 4pm and that's valid breakfast
So what this is is just breakfeast, lunch, and dinner are all subjective and most of the confusion is due to steritipical food and time for each meal.
Breakfast for dinner is just a phrase, man. That's why it doesn't have the word "food" in it, nor needs it.
Breakfast is a time, Breakfast food is Breakfast food. Easy
Breakfast is a time not a food
Who on earth eats breakfast at 1
Damn both these guys made great points
I only eat once a day so is that breakfast or dinner
Wait y'all eat dinner in the afternoon? I only have dinner in the evening
Don't forget about snacks like mini meals though Still a factor.
Okay so technically if you eat your main meal at noon, and that's the first meal you have that means you can have breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the same meal
No, if you have breakfast foods at dinner that not’s breakfast, that’s just breakfast foods for dinner, like a breakfast sandwich. Breakfast he meal is your first meal of the day.
When you eat breakfast in the morning you cna eat whatever you like and it counts as breakfast. But if you eat "breakfast food" after the morning it is still breakfast only you can't eat non breakfast food or else it wont count as breakfast. CHECKMATE
*I wonder what's for dinner*
Ur mom lol
my head hurts
You CAN eat breakfast food for dinner and it's still dinner
If you eat pizza for breakfast you had breakfast
According to the "Universal Food Consumption Times & Classifications" (U.F.C.T.C) when people eat meals and the names those times are regarded as are as such:
Breakfast: invented in 1846, Breakfast is the worldwide term for any and all food consumed between 6AM and 11AM, it also was the first designated time of day to really kick off the whole idea, before Breakfast was invented people just ate whatever they wanted whenever like animals. The food ingested does not matter, but it is recommended to eat foods that boost the energy of those who participate in breakfast to ensure the rest of their day will continue without the chance of fatigue.
Brunch: Brunch wasn't originally classified as a designated time to eat, but as it became more well known we at the U.F.C.T.C decided to collect further data on the event people call "Brunch". Brunch is the time of day that people cant choose what to eat. Brunch takes place between breakfast and lunch, making it last from 11AM to 12PM. During Brunch participants have the wide selection to eat either more typically considered breakfast foods, or lunch foods, or both. Brunch is more catered to those with a fluctuated sleep schedule, or for those who dont participate in the eating of breakfast, which is normal.
Lunch: Lunch occurs anytime between 12PM and 2PM. Lunch provides a somewhat smaller timeframe for food consumption, as during this time of day most kids are partaking in school and adults are at work. But during the break sessions at these respective locations every individual is allowed some time off for lunch. During lunch, most people are likely to either have a somewhat small meal at home, or head somewhere else like a small restuarant or a fast food place. Lunch is primarily useful for giving the body a slight jolt of energy (depending on what you choose to eat) to continue the day. Lunch is also the peak time for food businesses.
Dinner: After some downtime between lunch and dinner the average person builds up an appetite. Throughout the day you've been having mildly small meals and are, at this point, drained from the day. Your ready to prepare one last meal to end off the night, and fill your stomach. Dinner takes place in the wee hours of the night, from around 6PM to 8PM, but these hours can differ ranging from families and work schedules. Dinner is typically a more lavish meal then ones you would have earlier in the day. Time to cook and prepare are longer, but the outcome is normally worth the wait. Normally a full course meal of variety of different foodstuffs all providing unique tastes and benefits. Dinner is mainly the way to cap off the night, reward yourself and show your appreciation for life and the love for your family. Dinner is what puts the average human into a more mellow mood, ready to go to bed and do it all again.
The widely considered "Midnight Snack":
Finally we have the "Midnight
Snack". Not the officially coined term but it's the most universally understood. This time of day to eat somewhat reminisces back to when breakfast wasn't invented in 1846, when people just ate whenever and whatever. The "Midnight Snack" occurs around the time when a human should be asleep, but are struggling and thus require some sort of sleeping agent, in this case food. The food selected can be really anything the person desires, and typically it will be unknown to them as they will be tired and half conscious. After the good has been consumed, the participate would typically return to bed, comfortably and with a full tummy.
All my information was found on the Universal Food Consumption Times & Classifications (U.F.C.T.C) website and is entirely real and true.
This is high quality right here
I'm starting to realize the winner of these arguments is very subjective. Logic has no place in any of these comment sections.
North American and a lot of western European countries have been manipulated into what "breakfast food" is. And it's fucking delicious.
