Soda is not spicy simply because of spice being a taste, while the fizz we associate with soda is strictly TEXTURE. She's misidentified the feeling on your tongue as a flavor, when it is in reality, a physical phenomenon.

Though I agree with the point that soda is most definitely not spicy, spice is factually not a taste. It's pain and nothing else. The tongue has no tastebuds that recognize spiciness. If you don't believe me, just look it up online. A human tongue only recognizes saltiness, sweetness, bitterness, sourness and umami.

Spice - oils from food, usually peppers, that cause a painful sensation (the "flavor" of pain)
Fizz - a physical sensation that can be considered mildly painful (actual pain)
How the fuck is spice a taste? Spice is "oh shit that's hot and spicy", not "Mmm, I love the _flavour_ of spice". I get people like spice but its not "I love the flavour of spice" its "I love the feeling of spice".

The spice itself may or may not be responsible for the pain, but it does make sense when someone says they love the spice flavor. (I'm not arguing that spice is a taste. I'm arguing that someone saying talking about the flavor of the spice makes sense.)

Although soda is spicy, it's not the same *type* of spicy that is associated with hot sauce and most spicy food! Carbonation activates TRPA1 receptors, which are also activated by spicy mustard and garlic. The normal "spicy" sensation occurs when capsaicin, derived from peppers, binds to a *different* receptor called TRPV1. Although they're both described as "spicy," they're different sensations. Also, soda is NOT JUICE!

Juice is a drink of liquid fruits and vegetables, or really any liquid form of a substance. Soda may still remain as soda with just sugar and carbonated water. There may be fruit flavored soda and soda may be considered spicy, but soda is not juice.

Capsascin is the chemical people associate with spicyness. Capsascin makes your brain go "oof ouch too hot", causing mild to severe burning pain. the carbonation also causes mild pain, making it too, by a stretch definition spicy.

Technically, if anything, soda is _sour_ juice, as the carbonation process lowers the pH of the beverage. The inclusion of sugar makes it sweet.

No. They weren’t right. The pain you get from spicy foods is from different receptors in your mouth than soda. Pepper spice comes from capsaicin, and soda “spice” comes from the carbonated fizz.

Well I don’t count it because if it really where spicy then You would get other problems such as a runny nose or watery eyes. That doesn’t happen with soda and the flat soda doesn’t share the same property. It’s still called soda when flat so the carbonated beverage is still called that kind of beverage. And another point to be made is that some sodas aren’t juice they would have extract but not any juice. Like cream sodas or seltzer’s or those weird yogurt sodas they are soda and therefore not spicy juice. Ps I know this is a dumb argument and I am only saying this for fun because it was neat to research sodas 😁
