She held herself together really well when she relived the stories. Im willing to bet it's really hard for her inside her mind.those experiences ,seeing the things she had seen, meeting the savages and everything in between that was unimaginable... it would be a mixed bag of confusion, anger, guilt, empathy, etc.I don't quite understand the complexity of what's going on,and frankly I don't want to.my 2 daughters have a comfortable and awesome life my girls worry about tablets and food. We are standing on the shoulders of those that deal with the burden of modern evil.Great episode ,thank you ! I

My WWII father grew up in a house without electricity until he was 18. Ice was cut from the lake in the winter and stacked with hay in the cellar to have cooling capabilities throughout the year...he reminded me of this when he heard one of the "iphone-using, latte sipping types" crying about poverty. My father never thought he was living in poverty growing up because he was taught by his TWO PARENTS that he should have gratitude for what he had, not anger over what he didn't. Gratitude is sadly missing in America today.

Also probably helps that many people were in the same situation and as a child it is simply just the normal way of life. The hard work of our previous generations was to make life easier for the next, but the important lessons are being forgotten
One problem today is that for many life is very comfortable, and the price of everything is known, but the the worth of it all has become flipped.

The Amish neighbors growing up still did this using our irrigation pond to get their ice.

Maybe the truth is your father had it better because he had 2 parents and that latte-sipping type is actually worse off cause even though his Generation won WW2 they created and raised the Baby Boomers who then proceeded to tear up the family, create a society where we are all in debt to a few, but get fancy drinks probably filled with poisons created by the Greatest Generation and Dow you created all kinds of chemicals from war that ended up in consumer goods and probably still poising us.

    • @d.a.3752
      @d.a.3752 3 года назад

Don't forget that the "Greatest Generation" were the leaders who gave us Vietnam and basically wasted all the good faith in Government they built in WW2. Think we learned our lesson, nope the Boomers get us into Afghanistan and Iraq (Actually a GG & Boomer combo of the Bush father/son combo did that) and here we are 20 years later.

have a good day everyone! Andy if you read this I think Ed Calderon would be an amazing guest, he has vast knowledge of the cartels in Mexico, as well as Isobel Yeung- she is an excellent reporter who interviewed many ISIS fighters and was in Syria/Iraq quite a bit. ruclips.net/video/Fz_B4SvS48o/видео.html
6:20- Intro to Hollie and start of podcast
8:00- 5MEO-DMT/Ayahuasca and psychedelics, learning about yourself, and the Mexico retreat that Dan Cerrillo/Jason Tuschen/Johnny Walker etc did for psychedelic therapy, and will Andy try psychs?
    10:00- Hollie’s experience with psychedelics
11:20- Hollie’s Jocko podcast, and at the end of this episode Andy will want to [REDACTED] to Syria and [REDACTED] to some people over there
11:30- The pure evil you encounter over there
12:30- How does Hollie/(and Andy) explain evil? and Andy’s father used to live in AUS/and his sister was born there, Hollie’s dual citizenship
17:10- Jocko fucked up on the podcast with her! wrong passport color! He shouldn’t have gotten up at 04:30 that morning he was too tired..
17:40- How Hollie met Jocko and more on the Jocko Podcast with Hollie
19:00- Pop-tarts/NYC/LA, Baptism by Fire, kissing ass in Hollywood/the entertainment industry by 95% of ‘journalists’, more on entertainment journalism
23:00- Andy’s experience in Hollywood, and he hated many people there
27:00- Ballet is fucking savage, it is a tough ass sport, and Hollie’s boarding school she was at for ballet- day in the life/more on living there/her life there
28:00- 20-30 hours of training for ballet weekly- jesus fucking christ that is insane
29:20- Military training has evolved over time, crushing/hazing dudes constantly does not always work and can sometimes be counterproductive
31:20- what does a ballet career look like?
32:30- How did hollie get into ballet?, eventually she got bored in her country/rural area
34:20- Why she headed into journalism, she loved to write as a girl,
    36:20- Fox News NYC Building
36:50- NY vs Queensland AUS, Andy would hate living in NYC vs Hollie loved it there, rural vs city living, the magic of NYC is that it is dirty and grungy and smelly in many ways… but no one gives a fuck and you can be anyone you want to be
38:30- Why did she want to go to the middle east to do war journalism?
40:20- How is investigative journalism taught/how are you mentored into it?, and more on sources/more on investigative journalism
42:20- Breaking the ethical laws within journalism/the laws to access information
45:20- Her first conflict/war journalism trips, and Israel-Palestine
46:30- the word ISIL/ISIS being used, when Andy left in 2013 he had not heard the term ISIS before- the narrative was Taliban in AFG creating a safehaven for AQ/AQI. When did that word start being used?- the takeover of Mosul, Iraq
    47:50- What is ISIL/ISIS?, offshoot of Al-Qaeda in Iraq/AQ
48:30- being embedded with NATO + US forces in Iraq, highlighting the Iraqis in the partner force FID thing
52:00- Afghanistan trips, and the US forces there did not have a sense of the geopolitics of the region- Andy believes it is due to it not being an emphasis in their training
54:00- Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson, Andy’s 2010 ST3 deployment
56:40- Some of the most beautiful landscapes Andy has ever seen have been in AFG/Iraq (and you’ve all seen his instagram photos of Montana!!)
57:00- Andy’s 2010 deployment was doing VSO’s, was frustrated upon leaving that Team 3 deployment
58:20- How do you crush an ideology?, bombs and bullets are not enough alone
1:00:00- Corruption in the US government and Andy’s QAnon fan (likely) in his instagram comments, perception of corruption can be dangerous
1:02:00- Countries with an ISIS/ISIL presence, approx 10 countries, and more on fringe groups in the US and social media echo chambers
1:05:30- If we have another election where the election is contested and the contestion is contested and the contestion of the contested is contested (etc) then everything we are seeing will be amplified, and we could be headed into some rough waters
1:07:30- voting cards/ID’s for verification in the US
1:09:40- Sovereign citizen police interaction on youtube
1:10:00- Evil, and the need to feel part of a revolution/something bigger than yourself
1:12:00- Some of the levels of oppression/pain in the world, those with a 1000 dollar iPhone and a latte complaining about oppression (in the US), and the family/community centric environment in the Middle East, Yazidi girls’ community
1:15:00- ‘Where is Osama Bin Laden??” lmao
1:16:00- War strips away the bullshit, and Hollie has discovered that the ideal of “Home” does not necessarily mean a location on a map, but it is more people/not a place. Things don’t matter, people do. “The things you own end up owning you.” -Tyler Durden lol and more on minimalism
1:18:30- Lack of expectation in return by the people she visited in the Middle East
1:20:00- The frontlines of war, what did Hollie find interesting about war journalism?, the bullets are the price and the cost of war
1:24:10- What are the frontlines of war like?, Hollie found it strangely calming- and she speaks about the same exact thing Andy mentions a lot, black/white experience and the pure focus he felt. They both miss war everyday.
1:27:00- Why Hollie loved war/conflict journalism
1:28:00- Were you shocked at what you found ISIS capable of?, and the Yazidis were killed and captured by ISIS
1:31:40- The drugs they used to brainwash the little kids- Captagon (aka Fenethylline), Somali’s chewing on cot/Andy might’ve charged a 50 cal on modafinil lol, and the complexity of the ISIS/extremism problem, little kids being attacked, and religion is not the factor of joining often
1:35:10- Afghanistan has been controlled by the warlords for thousands of years
1:35:50- Often the most devout fighters were the ones that had the religious root and Hollie on speaking to an IED engineer
1:37:40- Sunni Shia split, Andy learned about the split after he got out
1:39:30- Authoritarian government and arguments for and against gun control, and gun control in Venezuela (before maduro’s rule and crackdown), and slippery slopes with gun control
1:41:50- What was it like sitting across from an ISIS fighter?, dude who killed 70 people and had his hand cut off, dude was matter of fact about what he had done, why did ISIS fighters join?
1:46:20- Belgium person who joined ISIS- why did he join? and more on his background
1:47:30- TW: Sexual Assault/Rape. Female ISIS fighters, would buy Yazidi women and sell them to be raped by the male ISIS fighters. The female ISIS fighters are just as evil, almost more evil than the actual killing. ISIS would recruit women with mental problems, an experience with a schizophrenic ISIS woman- she would torture/abuse/some times rape these women, and little boys with black ribcages from getting beat so much

I think it would be really interesting for the 2 of you to interact, especially given how Tool was one of your go-tos back in the day. Would also be great to see an interview with John “Shrek” McPhee. He’s a funny dude with a great story and a great perspective. Plus he rags on SEALs a fair amount. The medical side of it is not tripping, but micro-dosing. Tripping has different effects on people and not always for the better and not always "life altering", so no we shouldn't be asking people to do a "trip" before going into those professions. Everyone who likes to trip says this same thing because they like it but it is not for everyone.

      100% agree.
DMT at 17 also helped me to decide to avoid pharmaceuticals at all costs, as I became a forced prescription pill addict who felt like I was slowly dying at the age of 16-17 by the force of my parents and my pediatrician. I was forced & coerced into taking many different psych meds as a teenager when I felt like there was truly nothing actually wrong with me. Those pills genuinely almost killed me.
I complained about horrible side effects every single appointment. The doctor’s response would literally be, word for word, “Hmm, well that’s not normal. Maybe you just need a higher dose.”
They would prescribe a higher dose, my mom would force me to take the pills, and the doctors never documented a single one of my side effect complaints...
Even for years after the age of 18, my parents still forced me to be involved in psychiatry, or else they would threaten to kick me out & make me homeless.
Joined the Navy at 19, but that didn’t work out as a result of recruiter lies & paperwork mistakes. Had no choice but to go back home, where my parents forced me to get back into psychiatry. Took years for me to get my parents to fuck off.
Have been off off all pharmaceuticals for probably 5 years now with zero issues.
The fact that America still drugs it’s own children & citizens is absolutely baffling to me.

True evil is inflicting pain and suffering on the most innocent person just for the sake of watching them suffer. It’s seeking out the destruction of the individual because you like it and it brings you real joy. The reason why is because in that context it transcends ideology or group think. It’s willing to commit the most heinous acts just because.

My only disagreement here, is the religion comparison. Most of this conflict is 100% because of radical Islam. I don't think religion is low on the reasons, I believe it is the reason! Religious zealots are the reason for legalism and why there are so many "Rules". The people cannot live without religious interference.

Religion may not be at the top of the list for everyone joining ISIS (money etc...), however for most of the devoted fighters it is...You also have to look at their message and propaganda...it is truly in line with radical Islam and how Muhammad lived. So trying to look for other motives to muddy the water on what they are trying to push is a bit disingenuous...

I dont want to sound like a dick, but it was unnecessary to constantly refer to the Hollie's Jocko podcast to the point where you were identifying her answers as identical to the answer she gave on the podcast.
Before anyone goes nuts on me, he literally referred one of her answers as a 'dichotomy'.
I like the CLEARED HOT PODCAST. Just stick with your style and not a carbon copy of someone else's.
