Jocko and George Monsoor. George Monsoor is the father of Michael Anthony Monsoor (April 5, 1981 - September 29, 2006), a United States Navy SEAL who was killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.[1] He enlisted in the United States Navy in 2001 and graduated from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training BUD/S class 250 in 2004. After further training he was assigned to Delta Platoon, SEAL Team 3.
Delta Platoon was sent to Iraq in April 2006 and assigned to train Iraqi Army soldiers in Ramadi. Over the next five months, Monsoor and his platoon frequently engaged in combat with insurgent forces. On September 29, 2006, an insurgent threw a grenade onto a rooftop where Monsoor and several other SEALs and Iraqi soldiers were positioned. Monsoor quickly smothered the grenade with his body, absorbing the resulting explosion and saving his comrades from serious injury or death. Monsoor died about 30 minutes later from wounds caused by the grenade explosion.
This sounds like two fathers talking about the loss of their son in two different worlds. Rest In Peace Michael
“Thanks for raising a son like Mikey, and sharing him with us. We won’t forget him.” Powerful..
🖤
Been waiting for this one for a long time, rest in power Michael you won’t be forgotten for what you did for your brothers
Notice how Monsoor's father continues to use the present tense in reference to Michael. Goes to show that just because someone's gone, doesn't mean they leave us.
You can't get more immortal than Mikey! Dude will live forever in our hearts!
Just because someone is not here any longer, does not mean they never existed. To live, means there is always guaranteed death its part of the cycle -- How you use the time and what lessons you learned is the journey
That's right
I was thinking the same thing.
Like Mikey’s in the room with them
This podcast pulls at so many emotional strings. It's amazing to hear Mr. Monsoor talk about his son throughout the highs and lows of his life. Thank you Mr. Monsoor for all the stories about Michael.

Men like this are true heroes. Not actors or singers or other celebrities that people admire. What a special human, thank you for your service.
For sure, average everyday blue collar people are the real tough ones. Most celebrities aren't worth spit
I’ve listened to so hundreds of hours of jockos podcast but this episode hits different
This is right up there with 160, if you haven't listened go do so now.
Man…I couldn’t agree more. This and 160. Whew!
listen to ep 203 Jason Dunham. His Marine Brothers come on and tell the story of how he did the same thing to save their lives
@@jordandunne5292 I cry every time I listen to the cpl Dunham one. I always go back to it

I had to pause the podcast several times just so I could go clear the tears from my eyes. The measure of a person and the impact he made on you all and the others he served with is evident. He’s being rewarded in God’s kingdom for his faithful service.
Amen
What a blessing that we get to listen to this for free
"Greater love hath no man, than he who would lay down his life for his friends."
Rest in power Michael Monsoor. Generations will know of your love and your sacrifice.
Michael Monsoor and Jocko Willink, thank you for your service.
Seeing somebody like jocko start to tear up is tough
This was as real as it gets. My heart goes out to Mr. Monsoor. Knew it would be heavy because of the affection Jocko has always referred to MM with. Thank you for honouring MM with this interview.
2:31:04 That was the closest I think I’ve ever seen Jocko come close to tears, besides the podcast with Jonny Kim about losing Ryan Job and Marc Lee on this deployment. Goes to show you the bond they have and that no matter how much time passes on, they’ll forever miss their brothers.
Watching this on Remembrance day in Canada. Thanks for this Jocko, Echo..Mr. Monsoor..your son is uncommon. God Bless..
Fantastic conversation. Michael was the friend we all want in our lives. Thank you for your service and for paying the ultimate sacrifice. Proud Dad!
"... and often, with a mischievous smile."
Uncontestable Hero.
I have listened to this video over the last couple of days. This story has touched this little old lady's heart. I sit in tears with no words. Thank you for sharing this.
I came here after listening to Frank Turek, a Christian Apologist, referring to Michael Monsoor displaying John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. I was strucked by Michael’s story that I had to dig a little deeper into his life. George raised Michael to be a wholesome man. Thank you to everyone who served.
sir you and your wife raised one hell of a man and i pray your whole family keeps the strenght to deal with your loss
Yes, thank you for delivering this special person to us.
Years of listening to Jocko and hearing Mike’s name and this brought it home, thank you for the pain and amazing life this beautiful soul lived
Probably thee most emotional podcast I’ve ever heard.Mikey’s dad such a wonderful man, great father and husband. The man has a real spiritual loving glow to him that captivated me.Absolutely phenomenal jocko thanks for getting Mikey’s ole man on.
Great interview with the father of Navy Seal warrior patriot and badass legend Michael Mansoor is a great one, rest in peace, fair winds and following seas Michael Mansoor
The beginning gave me chills..
Im not religious anymore, but how fitting his name is Michael.. the story fits for St. Michael too.
Rest In Peace brother ❤️🇺🇸🦅
Perhaps it’s time to return
Just starting, but committed to watching in one sitting right now! Can’t wait to really learn more about a true American hero! Thanks Jocko, I’m sure it was tough!
Now 3:30am, I’ve watched multiple times, different segments several times, an amazing family and an amazing Hero! I’ve never seen Jocko as emotional as this, and understandably so, the description of that split second decision by Michael Monsoor was seemingly his destiny, as a kid always putting his friends and family ahead of himself, and then to give the ultimate sacrifice for your brothers, Wow! September 29 is now etched in my brain, and those of us unfortunates who never knew him will still remember, and thank God that this story is known! R.I.P. Michael, you earned it!
Incredible acts of valor. So much to learn from this podcast, heavy. Thank you to both of you and a very heartfelt, grateful, and inspiring thank you to Mikey. RIP hero
George can tell a great story... awesome 👍🏻
This is the story of a life given freely for his teammates, made me cry with pride.
The end of this was conversation was tough. Seeing such a rock of a man feel down to his depth. Michael is a true American hero and this was such an amazing listen. Happy Veteran’s day fellas.
Another great episode like always. Among the many lessons I learn when listening to this podcast, one of my favorites as a young adult is to hear the upbringing of all these amazing individuals. There is no mistake that a lot of these individuals grow up with similar family morales and character. I look forward to raising my future family with some of the amazing things I’ve picked up from hearing on here.
Absolutely loved hearing George talk about how Michael grew up and was raised. Sounds like he did a great job raising an amazing person.
A story everyone should hear. An amazing person and family and if I wasn’t already crying hearing Jocko get chocked up put me over the edge
May god bless you Mr. Monsoor and your family, may he also bless Jocko and his team on this podcast and jockos business. Such a legendary MAN to ever have graced our nation in uniform. More than just a SEAL. Legends like him will never be forgotten esp with veterans day tomorrow. I send my gratitude and thanks to everyone who dawns or have dawned a uniform in defense our way of life in america. As a vet myself im humbled by such amazing MEN and WOMEN who continue to serve. God bless you all. 🙏💯🇺🇸🇺🇸
Emotional podcast, two tough men. This needs to be a movie.
To hear Jocko speak in the beginning you can tell how affected he was by this. Mike a true American hero. My live and prayers for the family. And Jocko Dude has saved my life in more ways than one.
All I can say is thank you for everything you have done! Thank you to ALL who have sacrificed! Much respect to all
It’s sad to think that Mr. George Monsoor is so right. Most Americans don’t know, let alone care about guys like Mikey Monsoor. I went on the Internet and tried to look up his book by typing in his name in the search box. He was not even in the top five of the names that came up. None the less, it only took 10 minutes of this podcast for me to decide to go ahead and purchase this book. Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice, Rest In Peace brother.

Stumbled upon Michael's story about 18 months ago by chance and it just stayed in my thoughts, so now to watch this podcast with Jocko and his Dad is unreal. People need to realise just how much people in the military navigate through to eliminate the evils of this world. It takes special people to fulfil the role. Thanks for your service Michael and the others who still serve here in Australia and America, love your work. 🇦🇺
Thank you to Mr. Monsoor and Jocko for sharing this with us. I've had the fortune to meet members of Task Unit Bruiser and hear Mikey's story from them. Hearing it from his father's and commanding officer's point of view was very emotional.
Thank you both for your service and again for sharing this conversation with us.
I knew Mike well. We miss him. What a hero he was, glad to have shared many years of laughs with him. Rest in peace solidier
Thank you Mr. Monsoor.
Thank you gentlemen.
To all Veterans, on this Veterans Day Nov 11th 2022, who are serving or have served....

No doubt where Michael got some of his outstanding qualities. George is a hell of a dad, hell of a man. Thanks for sharing the joy and heartache of your son’s too short life. I too was in tears and felt a great sense of loss for the world.
Weep not for the "loss" of such men, but rejoice that such men ever lived. And live lives so as to honor their sacrifice and we will meet again in His Kingdom. To ALL who served, especially those who gave the last full measure,
their families and loved ones, thank you and God bless and keep you.
Thank Mr.Monsoor and family, both genetic and bonded, for sharing Micheal’s story. George is spot on with his intent by sharing Micheal’s story will inspire others. It does. As well as this podcast because I would love to hear Mr. Monsoor share his life lessons especial in how he endorsed his fight with the IRS. Also spot on as to why listen to or read Micheals story? Learn from others, perseverance, humor, friendship, humble, honor and true sacrifice. Although my intent isn’t to minimize but I listen to these podcast to keep my perspective in check. Micheal’s story and George’s sentiments expressed about the “bad” day are spot on! Thank you all who contributed to this book and who continue to support each other by sharing. We are so lucky for this.🍀 Jocko that is a good idea to do another podcast with Mr. Monsoor and his experiences. Make it happen
Jocko is great for getting a parent on here. It’s a way of listening to their stories and celebrating the lives of the fallen!
This is the most beautiful crushing thing I've ever heard. I tried to go to bed listening, but I had to call my dad and my buddy to make sure everything is ok. Dangit, you know, I miss my friends. Bless you all out there that know what I mean. And thanks for the village it took for all this...
Man. Thank God for men like Mike.
A powerful testament to the character and caliber of Mikey Monsoor. Thank you, George Monsoor and Jocko, for this interview. May freedom ring.
I have heard you speak about Mr Monsoor, thank you for doing this episode. Always remembered never forgotten, God bless
There at the end my eyes glassed up right there with you. Thank you for sharing such a great man's story.
Listening to that was like therapy man... Hearing Michael's story was kind of cathartic... it brought me back to when I was a kid, my dad would bring me to visit my brother on the air force base when he'd be nearby. They used to share these kinds of stories too. I really miss that. Thanks for posting this, and your podcast in general. I'll definitely be ordering a copy of the book.
George Monsoor deserves a medal for being a first rate father. I bought the book before the podcast ended. Thank you for sharing.
thank you to all gwot veterans for your service and its an honor to hear mikeys story, a true hero and everyman can only pray to have the courage he did
It's an absolute pleasure to listen to Mr.Monsoor talk about Michael! He sounds like he was a great dad. 1:05:28
What a powerful interview.
Thank you Jocko and Mr.Moonsor.
What a beautiful family. You and the wife raised your kids right. Y’all should be proud.
Somehow, I listened to this podcast 5 times and will probably listen to it again.
This one was hard to watch. Thank you for this podcast. Mike was an absolute hero. You raised a great son. We salute you! This world is a lesser place without men like Mike.
Jocko love your stuff. Just hoping maybe you will have some USAF SF guys in the future. TACP, CCT and PJs would be interested in hearing some of their experiences. My family has been AF guys mostly so have a soft spot for AF. Thanks. Love you guys!
I apologize that I didn't know Mikey's story let alone Rhamadi completely. Jocko does a great job of reading Mike's fathers book. I feel so insignificant for what the teams did and the Marines/Army. I'm completely in debt for the sacrifices they made. The story of Mike Monsoor told by his father is so riveting. I'm speechless and to hear he actually told his father if he was to die there it would be his way. The selfless act of jumping on a grenade to save his boys. I can't do much but I try to help certain companies that sell clothing and other goods that put a spotlight on certain charities. The Til valhalla 22 a day veteran suicides daily, Grunt Style, etc. By wearing the clothing I get asked and I'm able to tell them the background of the company I'm supporting. God Bless Michael Monsoor and he is an Angel
Wow, Thank you for sharing this was absolutely powerful hearing this & the bravery these guys have. RIP Michael & the fallen veterans🙏
This episode by far is my favorite. I feel like I learned more about Michael and honestly I cried when he passed. Michael is a man I’ll always look up to till the day God calls me home.
Jocko your podcast help me cope with my own ptsd from my childhood trauma, I know it doesn't make sense but I feel like I grew up in the trenches of ww1, listening to your podcast helps me cope with that trauma and my own life
ECHO...My brother....... take care of this man to your left. He is an inspiration, a leader, a Father, a tough guy and all the other cool names and titles you may bestow upon someone. But he is also nursing deep wounds. God bless you guys, the Monsoor's, and all of our veterans out there(2 and 4 legged) without which things would be quite different.
Amen
Former Navy Divee, I live in Maine and rwmember when rhe ship was being built @ BIW. Watched it leave for sea trials. I'm going to have to buy the book.
I'm so moved. My dad served in the Corps about the same time as George. My dad never pushed the Corps on me, but I know he was proud to see me join. Just saw this was post on the Marine Corps Birthday.
I know we’re early on this but happy Veterans Day to you Jocko, Michael and his father and all of those brave men and women who gave our nation their lives and service. We owe you a debt we’ll never be able to pay
So powerful, cried my eyes out, God be with you all😪🙏❤️
Thank you Michael for being a beacon of courage and bravery in tough times.
NO REGRETS.
I love the gentlemanly way you always greet each other.
Its great to see such a huge grin on your face going through all these memories
Mike’s dad is such a likable person. I really enjoyed this. Great show! God bless him and his family!
He's like all the Lebanese dads and uncles I know.
After all these years of knowing Michael Monsoor’s story, I would have never imagined he grew up in the Anaheim/Garden Grove area like me. 714 represent, Semper Fi brother
I'm crying.
Not out of sadness but, out of joy, for your success Joko, and for our Hero's.
Thanks for exposing millions of people around the world to planet Earth's true hero's.

Powerful episode. Hearing all the details Mr. Monsoor shared was a really special testament to his sons life. I'll offer up some belt fed prayers (rosary) for the Monsoor family. Thanks for sharing this story.
Holy hell and heavens, what an amazing interview Jocko!!! Mikey's father was an amazing interview to get an insight of who Michael Monsoor really was. I ran through the gamut of emotions listening to this episode. I can see where Mikey received his greatness, his father sounds like the father any kid dreams to have, needs to have. Thanks Jocko
an absolutely inspiring podcast, thank you George, god bless you and your family.
One of the most emotional and heartfelt shows I've seen on this channel. Thank you for sharing their story Jocko.
I can not wait to squeeze my son. This was an amazing video and you can feel the emotions threw the screen.
There is no greater definition of success than being an involved, dedicated father, and this my friends is unequivocally one of those father's... Thank you for sharing your life with us - this life story will effect many of us in a positive way, as we can understand how our lives are a gift.
This podcast and the stories Jocko and his friends tell make me feel as though I’m not much of a man but it motivates me and I’m sure that’s the point.
This Man is a Gem💎!!
Is it any wonder that Michael Monsour was the Man that he was???
May God Bless George Monsour & his Family and let Michael RIP👊

I never saw this so had to come back and watch. Definitely a good listen. And can only imagine the pain of losing a child...ive lost a brother in a car wreck in 2022 that absolutely crushed me.

Thank you George. This nation owes you and your family for the sacrifice your family has made. Jocko, as a dormant Marine and my son as an active duty 0311 with 1/8, we'd follow you anywhere sir. My heart aches for both of you. Thank you both. Semper Fidelis!!!
Just talking about Mike seems therapeutic for all involved.

Incredible, I greatly appreciate this interview of Mr. Monsoor.
Incredible podcast gentlemen!! God bless the Monsoor family. Michael was a gift from God to all of us.
Amen.
The intro was vivid, the picture clearly painted.
Many don't understand the true sacrifices our military make to serve and protect us all. Thank you Jocko for showing us how these men should be seen and remembered for all they had done and continue to do. The training is brutal and it has to be to prepare a man for what is to come in combat. In all branches there is a strong bond from brothers in combat. This is especially true with SEAL Teams. I would encourage you all to take the time to visit the Navy SEAL Museum in Ft Pierce Florida if you come to visit Florida. You will see their history, learn of their sacrifices and honor. Michael Monsoor is only one of many who have made this amazing sacrifice without a thought for his own safety. You will learn about men like Tom Norris and Michael Thornton and so many others. You will see displays with the actual equipment they used in the past and learn how far they have come since their humble beginnings. Every one of these men is special. They eagerly risk their lives to keep the world safe. The teams became legendary very quickly and developed into the absolute best fighting men in any military. We are fortunate that men like Jocko take the time and effort to provide us with these true stories of our heroes. Even with what these podcasts are able to reveal it is only the tip of the iceberg. Most of what these men do and have done even in the days of Viet Nam up to the present time, remains secret even today. I would also encourage anyone interested in donating to the Trident House which is one way you can show appreciation to our heroes. Here is a link to find out more: www.navysealmuseum.org/trident-house Your donations to this cause are very much appreciated. To find out more about the museum you can use this link: www.navysealmuseum.org
There have been several occasions when I've heard Jocko mention how incredible Michael Monsoor's family are. I now believe it unequivocally.
This man knows what it means to give everything for your country. Him, his dad and all his son's have served in a combat setting at some point. I understand how a MAN like Michael Monsoor came to be. Thank you sir for giving your best for our country and RIP Michael Monsoor. A true warrior and protector.
Thank you both for sharing Mike’s story and keeping his memory alive.
George is a fantastic man and it’s no wonder why Mikey grew up to the be man he was with such an incredible father as a role model for him. Much love ❤️ and respect to you both. God bless!
Thank you Jocko for all the insight and inspiration ,these podcasts are definitely well needed and deserved.
