The problem with any camera monitor is that it forces the camera to be used below eye level or at least makes using it than way more convenient. What’s wrong with that you ask? Nothing if you like looking up the noses of your subjects. The more flattering facial rendering is a POV high enough above eye line of the subject that the nose holes are hidden by the top of the nostrils. That varies with he shape of the nose and way you will notice most actors and models have aquiline noses with the tip of the nose hiding the nostrils from view when camera lens is eye level or slightly below.
@@jackogrady3118 That is true, but most videographers don’t. I learned portraiture apprenticing with wedding photographer Monte Zucker back in the early 70s who rose to fame and fortune by combining posed portraits taken in the light of any available north facing window with a silver Reflectasol reflector for fill and background he painted himself on roll up linen window shades mounted on a singe stand in the middle so they could be rotated around the subject when changing from full-face, oblique and profile views with the subject’s nose pointed 45° to the window to highlight the front of the face, eyes and mouth with a “mask of highlights. He taught me to pay careful attention to facial angle and how to make lopsided faces appear more symmetrical via a combination of facial angle, lighting matter and shooting distance to control near-far size relationships, e.g., one eye being larger than the other or a crooked nose. The reason for always wanting the camera POV above subject eye line - if the objective is to flatter them - is because the shape of the top of the nostrils is more attractive and flattering than the view from below up the nose. My favorite photo of my wife is one I took in 2000 of her sitting under a Banyon tree at a tourist park in Manila with my first digital camera, a Kodak DC290 with a 3x zoom. It was inspired by Ansel Adams’s portrait of Edward Weston. The problem was the tree was on a hill and I had to stand 20 ft below her. Sitting upright the camera was looking up her nose so I had her lean forward over her knees until the plane of her was pointing downward slightly relative to the plane of the sensor, the same rendering of the face obtained on level ground by keeping the camera above subject eye line. In the photo is appears she is sitting upright not leaning over without any near-far distortion of feet and legs vs. face because of her putting face close to knees and because I shot from far away (using max zoom for in camera crop) to minimize any near-far size perspective.
