But thinking that they are living an amazing life and you're just living a boring one is wrong.
On the same token, allow that discomfort to be there. If people see their life as boring when compared to social media, they should ask themselves if they truly have a need that has been left unmet. Maybe they realize that they have not taken a vacation in a long time, so they see pretty pictures of a tropical destination and feel like their daily routine is dull. Perhaps, they are stressed and burnt out. Now, rather than resenting those who made the posts, they can either switch things up at home or save up for a (small) trip to add some variety. This is so important and a lot of people don't realize it. I alternate between a slow-paced life and a lot of travel/'epicness' and I can definitely say that neither brings more or less joy. You may get an adrenaline rush, but believe it or not, the novelty wears off after awhile. True happiness and contentment only comes when you are present, grateful, and fully immersed in an experience. Whether it's skydiving or playing with your dog.
I don't want success,,,,bcz I have no one to show my success or inspire...... I just want to have a decent career and travel the world. Is this all really holds any meaning ???
I constantly feel like I’m not doing enough every day yet I don’t have the motivation to make the most out of each day, which then means I’m not able to live life to the fullest.
I feel this so hard omg. I’m the type to want to live every day as if it was my last but then I get tired so easily and I just end up giving myself a break for a couple hours. I think it’s important to have the desire to want to live life to the fullest but also reminding yourself that you don’t have to stress about fulfilling that 24/7.
I would suggest you read a book by Timothy Gallwey called the inner game of music. I think it will help you separate out the more critical part of yourself that sends you the often too loud and wrong message that too many people hear and too often listen to. I think meditation and/or sitting in quiet will also help you quiet your inner critic who is usually claiming we never do quite enough. When what most of us often need is more down-time.
We've also totally forgotten about the marvel of our lives right now! In a day, I woke up in the morning in a bed, with a roof over my head, came downstairs where I could enjoy a coffee with my parents and brothers and ate my breakfast in front of the TV. For some people these are not things they are able to experience. Equally, here we are enjoying this video from all corners of the planet at the same time. In years gone by, these things weren't even POSSIBLE! That's AMAZING! ✨
Yes!! All these things that go over our heads (no pun intended) are things we take for granted and sometimes we don’t realize others would kill to have what we have.
When I think of 'live life to the fullest' , I think about my dad. He passed away this year at 55, he had a severe blood disorder called haemophilia that caused joint pain, bruising, internal pain and bleeding and a lot of hardship from when he was a baby. When he died I got so many messages from people he knew telling me all of the kind things he had done for them (I had no idea). He would do favours for his elderly customers even when his business was not doing great. It is hard to even have and maintain a family or a business that includes physical labour with this kind of disease, and somehow he did all of this, I didn't even really understand the absolute severity of what he had to live with until it was too late. He never really complained. I had never seen him walk straight my whole life but I thought it was totally normal for him to be climbing roofs. He taught me to go for everything I wanted and he is the reason I don't get scared when I am challenged. There was no fear in his eyes when he died. I know he died young but I honestly feel like in his life, with his condition he achieved so much. His dream was to have an 'ordinary' life and I didn't even realise how much it took for him to achieve that until he was gone.
I'm so moved by this comment. I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like your father was an incredible human being, and I'm so glad you get to keep that memory of him! I truly appreciate you sharing this.
The poem that you read in the middle of the video reminded me of my mother. She was very much the kind of woman who pointed out the extraordinary in the ordinary. She taught me how rich every day life is. I’ve always appreciated that.
It's funny because I just had this conversation with a friend the other day. I told her how I never feel bored. Like never. Even when I'm doing absolutely nothing at all. I'm happy with that. I never allow the pressures of society to make me feel as though I need to accomplish a million things, go a million places or possess a million things in order to fulfill myself or to feel complete. I show and teach my children to appreciate the littlest things. Gratitude. I am too an introvert. I am also an only child and I've found that social platforms do have a tendency to falsely influence your sense of contentment within yourself. So that is why for about 2+ years now, I only have a RUclips account. I've never really cared what others think of me and would never allow myself to follow others since very young. So deleting my accounts have been the best thing that could happen to my inner peace. And I don't miss it. 😊
What do you do for work? I wondering because most jobs require tech or the use of social apps. Iid like to live like this but im looking for a job to match.
To me living an “ordinary life” helps me find inner peace. Being appreciative of everything I have, and living in the right here, right now is so calming!
Imagine, instead of faceless quotes, that someone was actually saying these things to your face everyday. Instead of hearing things that boost your confidence, make you feel worthy and appreciated, you hear: 1. You're boring, travel more 2. Sure you might think your life is fun but what is really fun is drink, drugs and rock n roll. 3. You haven't lived until you've skydived. Or been on that swing in Bali. Or been on a yacht. Or impressed the world in some way. If a person was saying these things to you, you would deem them manipulative. These quotes are no different. They exist to manipulative you into thinking you're just not good enough, but maybe if you spend more money and disrespect your values, you might be.
I adore this video. I just started learning about working on decentering romantic relationships and romanticism and appreciating simple things like a morning breeze. It has been very difficult(specially living in this chaotic world where nothing is enough) however I am grateful to always have that voice in my head (I call it my "inner child") that reminds me what its really life about.
Honestly, I realized, with this video, how socials can have an impact on how we feel in life. I thought that life was about exploring the world and making a big impact on society but in reality it’s not only that. It’s also about enjoying the small moments, those moments that might seem boring but that make our life complete!
"I'm going to go put on that boring ass Harry Potter soundtrack now, water my boring ass plants, and have an ordinary ass cup of coffee" i love this so much

Thank you for this Lana🙇🏻♂️ I often feel pressured from these "live your life to the fullest", which mostly imply I should travel or such, while I'm alive, because my life could end any time. I especially get a bed feeling from those when working - I spend a lot of time editing my videos (you know how long this takes) and often begin questioning my activities and goals when encountering these messages. You helped me feel less guilty about living my not so extraordinary life :)
There's that idea of "having a lot of things to impress people" that is generally criticized with "experiences are more valuable than things" or "creating exciting memories", but at the end they produce the same result, it seems. So now we may not worry about material stuff, but we can't stop thinking about how boring our lifes are and how we should be living more like X or Y person. That "exciting life", the traveling and "experiences" became the new "material things", now that is in some sense the product that we're constantly seeking to impress people.
"Here I was, sitting in my small kitchen with my morning coffee, listening to Harry Potter soundtracks, feeling perfectly content." This sounds amazing to me. I think when we learn to value everydayness, the ordinary becomes extraordinary, a scaffolding around which to build a deeply satisfying life. Happy New Year!
Thankyou so much for this!!! I am sorry to hear your Instagram account was disabled! The same happened to me in 2019 on my 21st birthday to my business account with a community of 52k. My content had grown to become predominantly about plants and all my personal posts of 7 years were archived. With no explanation and no resolution, it honestly hurt to lose all the memories and milestones within the account. It was a great reminder to not hold attachment to something non-physical that can so easily be taken. I pray that your account is brought back!🙏
I can relate to this video 100%. I was told many times that what I view as challenges are sort-of "boring" as it would always involve my quiet activities rather than traveling the world, go for adventure sports etc. Initially I thought I'm not good enough, especially not enough to share my stories on Internet but after a while I realized this makes me who I am and I don't have to fit in for anything. So, thank you Lana, you're one of them who helped me to shift my perspective, to just be myself!

I spent my single 20’s always having to be somewhere, doing something, going to every event. Now in my late 40’s I get more happiness from laughing at my husbands jokes or seeing my kids’ smiling faces when I wake up. No way would I trade the peace and happiness from a slower paced life to go back. As always love to hear your perspectives Lana.
Beautifully expressed!! Yes, that has been the experience of many around me as well... including myself!! Part of the journey i am guessing to start being real and true to ourselves 🤩🤗✨
I respect so much more the people who don’t post everything they do, who live life and enjoy the little things for them and no one else. I have big dreams but not to live a fast paced, swimming-with-sharks kind of life, I think there is something so magical in just going slowly and thoughtfully ❤️ Thank you Lana you are awesomeness
Yes, and I envy those who are rooted to a place and a community. Those who can claim a neighbourhood....and possibly know the name of the bus driver who drives them to work everyday because ---the town is small and its the same driver--same shift everyday....
I will now walk my boring garden in the middle of the winter and I will admire and think of the flowers that are busy working for the next season blooming. I can do it for ages. Staring at my banana plant. It is only one part of my life, but I also like the fast cars, the travels and the exotic location. It life everything should be balanced. I think you need a real lover, someone to cherish you and adore you!
I don't know about others but my heart feels at home when watching You. I feel sometimes behind in life constantly trailing over things. But your channel feels like I can relax for a moment that I can actually breathe and stop and just perceive for a while
The "epic" life was never for me. It makes you lost in the chase of the next big thing when the biggest thing in your life is simply: your life... It`s amazing how much there is to explore in our own hearts and soul, that we usually decide to look over.
I was constantly chasing something, constantly chasing something I didn't had, rushing... But now, I am starting to be more content with a peaceful, calm lifestyle. No rush, working from home, traveling here and there to see my closest people when this situation calms down, reading, writing, journaling, playing video games... Having a peaceful, calm life feels much better than that constant rush I had couple of years back. I guess slowing down feels good, to breathe deeply, to slow down and see what's around me, just to be in tune with how I feel. As always Lana, thank you for what you are doing, really, and thank you for being you. :) As an INFJ, I understand you... I so so hope your IG account is back, I def miss seeing your content there... :(
Beautifully expressed Marco! We are trained early on to be chasing! Glad you have made your own choices! That is epic: choosing to be in tune with how you feel ✨
I've found that when I'm traveling, the sites I see just don't compare to my beautiful home, (Oregon, USA), so instead of spending all my money on long distance trips, I have been content to explore the sites around me. It isn't as fancy as my friends trips, but I am happy.
“Do we really have to live passionately? Is it really related to ‘Happiness’? If accomplishing gives happiness to you, you may live passionately, but if you feel happiness from the gentle things, you don’t have to” - MYG, 2020
Well Lana, all the things you mentioned as being “epic” are temporary activities. So a person that needs those things feels like there is something lacking in their life until the next time they do something epic. Truly living to me is enjoying the present moment with gratitude, as it is, not looking at it as if the moment has something lacking.......because it doesn’t. Joy does not come from some activity external from yourself, it comes from within you. That’s why doing something that is considered mundane by most, is not mundane for a person that is joyful no matter what they are doing. Funny that you mentioned divorces because relationships are basically the same idea. People believe they are incomplete without being in a relationship with someone. But you are a complete person. You are looking for another complete person. You want to mutually extract joy from each other.........if you look to another person to fill a void you believe you have, no person will ever be found to fulfill everything you feel is lacking in yourself. You have to look inward first, at yourself first. If someone tells you that you “complete” them, run away. 😊
Your message is impressive. I would add that simply being alive is epic ! For as strange as it may seem, it is abnormal to be alive afterall. Death is normal. We should be more aware as to how exceptional life is !
I would agree with everything except the part that so thoughtlessly advised that we should run away from people who say we complete them. I get what you are trying to say, but I disagree. Firstly, what constitutes a complete person? What is a complete person? From my understanding, most people are absolutely incomplete, indeed foolishly seeking something external to satisfy great needs and turmoil, longings of their spirit. However that said, not *everything* we seek comes from the inside, and while it is dangerous and sad to put the totality of your happiness and existence in one person, a partner has a big role and they can "complete" a part of you that they are meant to, which is not to say you will be complete, in my eyes. Just that they are fullfiling their role as your significant other. Even Plato himself said opposites attract because lovers themselves are attracted to someone opposite of them, precisely attracted to qualities they themselves don't have, so that the company of the other may cause us to learn and attain said qualities we do not have, that they may "rub off" onto us. At the most basic level, this is masculine seeking the feminine and vice versa. Still, even if none of this is part of what someone means when they say "you complete me", it does not absolutely as a rule have to have negative connotations. It probably signals codependence and lack of internal insight, but may also simply express deep appreciation and gratitude. Or both. That is absolutely not something that should be a decisive factor in whether you "run" from someone or not. The emoji at the end of your post made it seem wholly insincere and snarky.
I completely agree with everything in this video! I always thought that something was wrong with me because I had no intention to travel or party it up in my twenties but everybody's definition of living a full life is different and that's okay! Staying in and watching your favourite movies with quality people or reading a book and working on what lights you up are a great way to live life to the fullest! Loving your videos Lana! xxx
This is so important for people to remember. Most of us can’t do “epic” things right now, and if we want to be content, we need to find joy in the everyday aspects of life. Also, I saw a rainbow on my walk today! 🌈
I love your message here. I so agree with you. The ordinary has its own magic that can go away and come back if we chose to. The chase for something better is good, but not if you don't know how to appreciate what you already have.
Allowing people to be happy with the life they've chosen is important. Some people are quick to judge you for being too boring, or too wild, or too something, when really it's no one's business how another chooses to live. As long as they're happy and not hurting anyone. This video is much needed. Thank you. ❤
Man, I have been thinking about the same topic for the last 3 days. The culturescape has certainly skewed our perspective on what we consider a 'happening' life!
I think living life to the fullest means living life in your own terms, realizing your fullest potential, whatever that one may be. I think living life to its fullest potential means in the end to be happy. Be satisfied, at peace, joyful.
Awesome video, Lana! The thing is sometimes we don’t know if we are going to love something if we don’t try it. So reaching for the stars might make sense. I think as long as you don’t have any regrets at the end you are doing good! You are still very young. I’m almost 60 and really want to make sure I experience the world before I leave it. You may feel different as you get older, knowing we all change as we age. Anyway, great video and I hope the very best for you!

i just found your channel and I appreciate how much you trigger my train of thought. Lots of self reflecting during this video. Thank you for that.
“Its not about living a SUCCESSFUL life, it’s about living a SATISFIED life”
True
I have been self-reflecting until I came to a conclusion that I want satisfaction and not success.
To me, I'm satisfied when I am successful. Does that make any sense at all?
Yes the small things
I don't want success,,,,bcz I have no one to show my success or inspire...... I just want to have a decent career and travel the world.
Is this all really holds any meaning ???
This is so true, 2020 really showed me how to love the ordinary. Suddenly a walk in the park and seeing the sun set became my most treasured memories
I constantly feel like I’m not doing enough every day yet I don’t have the motivation to make the most out of each day, which then means I’m not able to live life to the fullest.
i feel this comment a lot. although, everyday i try more and more to live in the present and not worry about other things i can be doing :)
This is totally me.
You're good enough 😉💕. You do enough 🤗. You should take a break and rest every so often to recharge, so you'll be able to continue 😊.
Beautifully crafted video, Living Ordinary life is also extraordinary in a fast-paced social media era.

Yes, well said...
Absolutely true Eleanor, we naturally take so much for granted. I try to practice gratitude on a daily basis.

"The most difficult thing for a man to do is be himself in a world that is constantly trying to change him."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Wow what a beautiful legacy he has left with his life! Thank you for sharing that!! A big hug your way sistah 🤗

Sorry for your loss. Your story touched me. He did leave you a gift. To see the extraordinary in the ordinary.
That is so frikin awesome Deriene! Thank you sistah for sharing your experience! 🤗✨

To me living an “ordinary life” helps me find inner peace. Being appreciative of everything I have, and living in the right here, right now is so calming!
Now that is Epic!! Being true to you!! 👏🏻👏🏻🤗
I love how calm you are Lana. Far from boring... it's all perspective anyway. Peace & love, always.
Sometimes we spend too much time wishing living someone else's life that we forget our own.
You're absolutely right..
Imagine, instead of faceless quotes, that someone was actually saying these things to your face everyday.
Instead of hearing things that boost your confidence, make you feel worthy and appreciated, you hear:
1. You're boring, travel more
They exist to manipulative you into thinking you're just not good enough, but maybe if you spend more money and disrespect your values, you might be.
exactly!
This is very true. There is nothing wrong about living an ordinary life. We don't have "Instagram" moments all the time. Its not normal.

I love this topic so so much. I made a promise to myself a few years ago on enjoying all ALL the little things. It has been very difficult(specially living in this chaotic world where nothing is enough) however I am grateful to always have that voice in my head (I call it my "inner child") that reminds me what its really life about.
I think ordinary lives are underrated. There’s so much joy in the simple things.
Honestly, I realized, with this video, how socials can have an impact on how we feel in life. I thought that life was about exploring the world and making a big impact on society but in reality it’s not only that. It’s also about enjoying the small moments, those moments that might seem boring but that make our life complete!
"I'm going to go put on that boring ass Harry Potter soundtrack now, water my boring ass plants, and have an ordinary ass cup of coffee" i love this so much
While I feel kind of called out as most of what I´m doing is "trying to live an epic life" I really love the thoughts and couldnt agree more. Everything is relative and a matter of perspective

I often feel pressured from these "live your life to the fullest", which mostly imply I should travel or such, while I'm alive, because my life could end any time.
That "exciting life", the traveling and "experiences" became the new "material things", now that is in some sense the product that we're constantly seeking to impress people.
facts..this is why you need to live for you, and learn what brings you joy not coz you can post it on social media

The "epic" life was never for me. It makes you lost in the chase of the next big thing when the biggest thing in your life is simply: your life... It`s amazing how much there is to explore in our own hearts and soul, that we usually decide to look over.
I relate to this. Thank you so much for sharing this! Hope your day's going well! :)
I love how your videos are so simple and ordinary yet they have so much value in them 💕
I was constantly chasing something, constantly chasing something I didn't had, rushing...

I believe that “peace of mind” is the key 🔑 to happiness!
That means just enough to be myself and feeling enough myself within.
It’s ok to enjoy the simple things in life like the sound of my kettle when making my morning coffee, walks with my dog, and laughing with loved ones.
such a necessary and timely video😌 Thanx, Lana🤍
Thank you for this, very inspiring 💕

I love this! I feel like I needed to see this. Going to save this video and watch it whenever I feel like my life is boring. Thank you!
I genuinely smiled at the end of the video. Thank you Lana.
Cool! :)
how beautiful rainbows are!

Allowing people to be happy with the life they've chosen is important.
