    She was possessed at the end. The moments leading up to it - the arguing and sobbing were it testing the waters of taking over, the pulling her out of the bed were also a test on both strength and setting up the idea for it's trap to lure him out to kill him because it knew his weakness was her. A well put together found footage film.

    Nick one of your best qualities is your sensitivity and ability to empathize...but im still really surprised by how sympathetic you were toward Micha in this movie Nick.
    I know the movie starts out showing the two of them with chemistry and making them look like a cute couple, but very quickly Micha's narcissism is revealed with how he treats Katie:
    he completely ignores how terrified she is, ignores her pleas for him to stop, to not antagonize the demon, makes her promises that he won't and then does it anyway.
    He's basically the embodiment of all of that toxic masculinity male machismo bulls***, spending the whole movie acting like he actually wants to fist fight the demon over that which they both want to possess: Katie.
    And with regard to the camera, you kept thinking that they needed it in order to document what was happening to them.... But think about it - The expert demonologist already believes in this stuff, and had he actually come by, he would have performed an exorcism on their request with or without video evidence.
    Who _else_ could they have possibly shown this to who would have been able to do anything to help them, or would have even believed that it was real and not just an elaborate hoax they were putting on?
    Like really, what good did filming it actually do except serve to antagonize the demon and make it more aggressive?
    The camera wasn't helping anything and was only making the situation worse. And while it's natural to think that having documented evidence of it is certainly better than _not_ having it, there's nobody they could have shown this to who could have actually _done_ anything.

    • @monsterhanna6691
      @monsterhanna6691 Год назад +5

      That's a really good point and also, it's not like the video footage was helping eliminate the demon at all. To me, from what I remember, Micah was more excited about getting paranormal activity, rather than helping his girlfriend, who clearly was distraught about this.

    I love the simplicity of this movie. The low budget really helped it seem real, and the main characters also have very believable personalities. Even if not much happens in the first half, these things help build a good story to it

  • @sardonicus1739
    @sardonicus1739 2 года назад +30

    The woman being weary of the camera makers perfect sense since the guy who came at the beginning who was an expert on the subject said that filming it might make it more aggressive, and even encourage it to do those things.

  • @stevenperez845
    @stevenperez845 2 года назад +15

    The thing Micah threw into the fire was a Cross, the only thing probably protecting her. From that moment the demon was in full control and you can tell by how Katie didn’t want to leave and had a distorted voice.

  • @stevenperez845
    @stevenperez845 2 года назад +60

    Katie’s annoyance with the Camera makes sense. The Camera allows it to think that they WANT to communicate with it which isn’t what Katie wants. Micah & his jokes don’t help the situation at all. The Camera isn’t helping, Micah isn’t Helping, if anything he’s pissing it off. The fact that his photo was broken in the hall is proof of that.

He doesn't pay any mind to the fact that she's been going through this nearly her whole life, and she knows what she's talking about. He thinks he knows best, and that's what ultimately dooms him.

    afa the movie itself, this followed the first ever found footage movie, the Blair Witch Project. Many believed it to be real, as the actors were hidden away for weeks after the premier. The lack of credits before and after sealed the deal, leaving enough undecided to make both movies big hits and cash cows that cost peanuts to make! Regarding the couple themselves....I'm a guy and I'm breaking the brotherhood code here. The boyfriend imho should have been thinking about her, and taken things at her pace, as she was the one with the problems. If it were him with the trouble, then visa-versa. He just does whatever he wants out of his giant me-first ego; and totally disrespects her wishes at every turn. He sees her getting more and more upset, poo-pooing the outside help and he should have backed off until she was comfortable with it again. Out of respect and compassion for her ( of which he had very little apparently) he should have backed off and gone at her pace, not his; but whatever, he's All That, and knows best. By the time he wants to leave, its too late. All that I feel, encouraged the demon; as it knew it could upset her by just letting the boyfriend push her buttons all on his own. He got the hard truth in the end though.

Even when he’s aware what’s happening is real he doesn’t want to contact the expert. He comes off as wanting to get famous and guilts her early on into letting him do whatever he wants to achieve this selfish desire. He’s more excited and eager for things to happen rather than concerned throughout the movie which results in you being unsympathetic towards him. He only finally gets truly concerned when it is essentially too late.

    Just a little heads-up, Nick, in case you didn't know, but demons require permission to basically do anything--possess you, show signs of their presence etc.--so when Micah was trying to provoke whatever it was that was haunting them, it was a really bad idea. Either because A), it'll make the ghost very angry or B), because it'll do as it's told and possibly hurt you.
    Also, Katie can basically become possessed if she's vulnerable and gave permission. Meaning, that if, say for example, she was really depressed, that would give the ghost/demon an opportunity to possess her without her even knowing it. That's also why you should NEVER use a spirit board alone because of that vulnerability and should also follow the rules, even if you don't believe in ghosts. So, when she got bit, that's not what caused the possession. It was just the case of the ghost basically proving that it could hurt her and, for whatever reason, wanted to take her over; hence why Micah's side of the picture was destroyed because the ghosts didn't like him and he made them angry by trying to get a reaction out of them, and also why the guy who was helping them had to leave.
    Again, demons require permission to haunt, possess, knock things over etc. and can't do it on their own and, obviously, when Micah brought the spirit board into the house, it was not only really stupid, but also really dangerous. Basically, it doesn't matter if you believe in ghosts or not, they can still scare/harm you.
    Apologies if I got anything wrong or forgot something since I'm definitely not an expert on it and if you don't believe in ghosts at all, that's totally fine, but they're still not something to mess with and with spirit boards, you never know what you could be summoning.

    people have already mentioned it before but yeah, camera 100% hasn't helped. she's dealt with this since she was 8, she knows how the demon works, and no amount of 'documenting' is worth endangering her life or Micah's by antagonizing the demon with attempted communication and filming.

      6 in total that have been out in theaters. Not including the new one. The first 4 are about Katie’s family, the marked ones is a brush of fresh air while the last one sucked.

    This movie stuck with me because of something that happend too me.
    There’s this place in Britain called WhiteWick manor where this old merchant family used too live. I went there and the moment I went into one of the bedrooms, I felt a strange pressure on me but I pushed it off. I took a pic of the fireplace but when I checked it there was this strange white whispy think over it. I took another pic but there was nothing there. I thought about it all the way home. That night, I just couldn’t sleep. That pressure from before was back again. I heard something fall over down stairs, then a strange thumping outside my room. Then my alarm clock fell of my bedside table and when I went to pick it something was holding me back from doing it.
    When I woke up I had a huge bruise on my stomach, a cut the size of my thumb on my leg and some of my hair had been cut off.
    I still have absolutely no idea how it happend but it still creeps me out too this day.😟😟😟

    FANTASTIC movie. It scared me so much considering how it was made that I actually had to look up if it was real or not and fortunately, it's not, but still great movie regardless. PLEASE do more Horror movie reactions in the future. Have you see The Conjuring? 😍😍😍
    Also, something to definitely check out are the two other Alternate Endings of the movie. I personally saw the Theatrical Version--the one you saw--and that was by accident since it was on Netflix, and for me personally without giving anything away, let me just say that while all three ideas are really scary in their own way, I personally prefer this version the most. And not just because it's the version I saw, but the other scenes should be on RUclips if you wanna check them out.

    24:41 Demons 101: 3 in the morning is the demonic witching hour. It's when they're at their most powerful, and they like to use it to mock the holy trinity.
    As opposed to 3pm, the Holy hour, which some believe is the time Christ was crucified.

    I'm curious if you'll watch the sequels. Honestly they're kinda hit-or-miss, with my personal favorite being the one with the mexican family, just because it took a new direction instead of just being the same recycled formula.

    As someone who has experienced the paranormal myself this movie hella terrified me when I first watched it, what makes it worse is that the two sisters' names are what my sister and I used to go by when we watched it. "Katie" and "Christy." So, it was double scary for us! 😅

      @@monsterhanna6691 Not at all! My grandparents actually lived in a haunted house, so most of it stemmed from that. Didn't help that the house was on the same plot of land as a cemetery, so...

      @@monsterhanna6691 Yeah, lol. Sorry! At the time of responding last I didn't feel like choosing one story or typing it out and then I sort of forgot about it. Also, I want to make a video(s) on my paranormal experiences, so...I will say that house was pretty well-known in the area for being haunted, though I couldn't find anything online about it? Anyway, I guess when it rained the walls would bleed but I never saw that, because the main ghost there respected my grandparents. I remember whenever I would be spooked by a noise my mamaw would say "Sarah, now, you stop scaring the babies." She was the main ghost. There was also a little boy that people would see in the attic and, though I never saw him, I have a picture of what he looks like in my mind. The main ghost experience I had there was taking a shower by myself around Halloween time and, when I got out, saw "GET OUT" written in the fog on the mirror. I rolled my eyes and was like "Very funny guys" and wiped it away, thinking my cousin/sister (who had showered before me) had done it to scare me, especially it being around Halloween. I went back to getting dressed and looked up to see it being written again and then saw a hand smack the mirror from the "inside." There's plenty of other experiences I've had since but that's the oldest one.

Haven’t watched a horror movie in YEARS because as for now they scare me so much, strange because I’ve always loved them a lot. These kind of found footage movie are the most terrifying, its scary knowing something’s there but you can’t see it, just like the Blair Witch movie. Poor Nick .. lol! I wonder if you've seen The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Like this, a great part of it isn't considered frightening because it's told through the lens of a courtroom drama, but the climax terrified me. It's based on a true story that's really controversial to this day: you can actually listen to some of the exorcism tapes online.

    Small tip to control fear while watching Paranormal Activity movies; Sh*t doesn't get real until the one hour marker, nothing too big or bad will happen until there's only around half an hour left of the movie. You managed to notice it in this movie and they are all pretty much structured the same way.

    I really like this movie and am working through the sequels. Would love to see you continue. It blows my mind that Micah went out and bought this expensive camera equipment, brings a Ouija board home against her wishes, and openly taunts the demon, but won't accept help or advice from people who specialize in this field and won't take them seriously. Does he believe or not? 😑

It he camera and them fighting has just made it worser. The camera is good way to document what's going on in case something happens but otherwise you paging more attention to it making it stronger encouraging it to do more stuff maybe even challenging It in a way lol.
