to save some work... 10:33 check: "fill caps" before converting it back to a mesh. then you dont have to select the open edges and fill them manually.

This triangulates the caps for me which makes them difficult to bevel. Is there a way to prevent this?

@@ArijanRace okay... This makes your approch the prefered method until Blender fixes this.

well for other who wants to make threads a little good looking you should first convert and edge loop into curve and then make thread separetly using cube and the use curve modifier with array
this might look better
