Hammond: You weren’t even driving the bloody car! Clarkson: You WERE driving it and you crashed it. Hammond: Yes, but I did it after the finish line, like a professional...
It was actually revealed that Jeremy, James, and Richard made a pact that should one of them die while filming the show, the other two would open the next episode of the show announcing the death, and after a minute of silence, continued with a comical "anyway.." and soldier on with the show's segment as if nothing had happened. I think it brilliantly shows their bond as a team, as they've mentioned that the reason the rest of the team always left the one that broke down during their trips behind was because they believe so long as the others carry on, the team carries on, and in that way, everybody no matter what, gets to finish their adventure together.
@@OSEF006 i think you're right. If memory serves me well, Richard actually mentioned this in an interview post crash. Arri's are notoriously hardy, had an Alexa SXT get caught in an SPFX snafoo where a cable dolly jammed as a massive explosion was set off about 10 feet diagonal from it, the outside case looked like hamburger but the internals were completely intact, the side monitor even still turned on. Only thing stopping it from being used was the melted plastic around the lens mount.

I was launched 30 yards from my R1000 after clipping a Prius at 80mph. Felt like I was airborne for miles and everything looked small. Luckily my body went limp on impact and rolled out of it without broken bones, but paralyzed neck down. Can type with my tongue like Steven Hawking on this clit dongle thingy in my mouth.

I suppose you can see how not worried james and jeremy were of this in the episodes afterward, where they make a whole running gag of how the medics cut his pants off him after the crash. Really shows how much of a bond these three have for each other, and how deeply they care for one another’s safety.
Both of them thought he had died. James said there was a white-hot ball of horror forming in his heart, while Jeremy said his knees had turned to jelly. I think you can also see James walking alongside the paramedics when they're carrying Hammond to the helicopter
When Rimac made the Concept_Two (later known as the Nevera), they included a fire extinguisher held by a leather strap with a humorous message that reads "In case of hill climb, extinguish fire", poking fun at Hammond's accident.

The comment I was looking for... This should be at the top.
I still can't believe he crashed AFTER the finish line 🤦

Something tells me that that terrible crash in 2006 did something bad to his mind, it seems he was nervous here and over thought things, and sometimes when you overthink something it goes wrong because you’re not in “the zone”, Richard Hammond is a perfectly good driver but I think that first crash took something away: his confidence.

I’m so glad Hammond survived! I also really want to know if the Arri Amira camera mounted in the car survived? It looks like they amazingly recovered the memory card from the camera, but my guess is the camera itself probably isn’t with us anymore 😭
@@TheScakal Wow! Yeah I’ve seen some melted Arri bodies and it’s incredible they still work after that. Figured this crash might be enough to kill one, but a few days ago I found out from the guy who is in charge of shooting the Grand Tour that they use Panasonic GH5 cameras for the in-car shots.

I have had many a serious accident (wasn’t always the driver) and other near death experiences (wrecking my motorcycle/overdoses). You are right on the money about the passing of time being both fast and slow simultaneously. My therapist says this is happening at the moment in my life due to my grieving at the loss of my girl.
