What I did is order free carpet samples from carpet places online. I cut mine so they on the steps themselves but if u use a flat hear and hammer to put them into stairs. That's if u wanna use real carpet like
Hiya, sorry, if you checkout the blog post in the description there's more information there. They are set in place with multipurpose glue that dries clear. If you wanted to paint your spindles and handrail you could use wood glue, this doesn't dry clear but won't matter if you're painting over it.
