I gotta say this idea for a sonic show sounds pretty interesting and gotta ask in your opinion Think it would be a good idea if this storyline could work in the idw comics?
In my opinion, the main reason for the failure of the series was Sonia's voice and personality. If they would have casted a female voice for Sonia, I might have given her personality and overall story a pass.
Now I hate Underground MORE. Not that Sleet and Dingo weren't the highlight of the series (along with Manic), but I'd love to have seen a darker, grittier Scratch and Grounder acting under a SatAM Robotnik.
@@WakoDoodle The two dumb sidekicks craze really kicked off with Bebop and Rocksteady from Ninja Turtles. Scratch and Grounder kinda borrowed from that in the first place.
@@conradojavier7547 That's a bit generous. Personally, I just don't care for them. One is low-key snarky, and the other has a defective voice chip that makes him change accents.
Too bad they didn’t hear of Amy Rose (or Rosy the Rascal) from Sonic CD when making the pitch for a female lead Sonic show. Having a show featuring the kind hearted Amy helping others, like a bird find its family.
Then again, the kind-hearted Amy would not be until Sonic Adventure, where Sonic CD basically had Amy as an obsessed fan of Sonic, and the damsel-in-distress.
I feel like this show would've been like the mid-tier show that gets annoying after being played all day everyday. Especially with the high school. That would definitely be a major fall back for filler episodes. I, on the other hand, am losing my mind at the very thought of Scratch and Grounder being even considered for a comeback. SOMEBODY on the writing team said "let's make them grittier."
@@AdventureMaster18 It’s possible there might have been communication mishaps since SU was produced years after the other two shows and was a French coproduction. Perhaps Sleet and Dingo were originally created to be good guys or side characters but something happened behind the scenes where they ended up taking those two’s lackey spots and they had to go with what they had before production starts. SU in general is an oddity both for having non-standard Mobian designs and what game it was made as a tie-in for with Sonic Adventure. I’m still convinced Sonia was originally meant to be Amy Rose but perhaps a mistranslation, a faxing error or something happened that brought Sonia into existence. Transformers The Movie (1986) infamously only included four of the five Dinobots for most of the film with the missing member appearing in two scenes total because of miscommunications between the producers and Toei Animations. The original Masters of The Universe had Jitsu’s only appearance in the cartoon almost taken by a Filmmation created one-shot character named Strong-Ar who appeared in a separate episode. It doesn’t seem too crazy to think Sonia was birthed out of a mistake relating to Amy.
@@AdventureMaster18 The 90s were weird but in a fascinating way! The 1990’s Sonic DiC Animated television series (AoSTH, SatAM & Underground) were very interesting, I honestly wish they made more!
Now I want to see a bit Sonic family reunion. These two, their parents, Bernie, Jules, Aleena, Sonia, Manic, the red and yellow Sonic brothers, the Popful Mail based Sister Sonic, Nicky's whole Family, all of his relatives we saw in AoStH, all the Uncle Chucks, etc.
1) technically, Nicky *IS* Sonic's normal self; Sonic is just a transformation. After a while, he realized he IS Sonic and managed to learn how to STAY Sonic. 2) In my mind, Lady Bernadette is actually the SISTER to Sir Jules and Sir Charles; Queen Aleena is Sonic's Mother, and Sir Jules is the father. 3) Would this also include Sonic's "Extra Life" from the Fleetway comic series?
I can't believe this was proposed and I really wish it had gotten made. I don't think it would have been very good, but it would have been a bizarre, fascinating piece of pop culture ephemera in the same way Sonic Underground was.
8:16 - “Isabelle and Monica share a room that’s every Sonic the Hedgehog team’s dream: Jetsons meets Star Wars!” Shows us an ordinary-looking two-bed bedroom.
Possibly the most unexpected find in relation to the 90's Sonic Cartoons. While a part of me wishes it had come to be for its enormous flop possibility, perhaps we didn't need anything else after Sonic Underground. Great video, great find, and thank you for sharing!
@NES I have no doubt on that, but imagine what the fans would have done with the concept. (Not that they can't right now that we know about it, we'd just have more "lore") I'm looking forward to seeing if anything else will be unearthed, or see what the community has for ideas.
‘Sees this vid with a pink hedgehog in a cancelled Dic Sonic cartoon.’ Me: “Could this be the Amy Rose Dic adaption we missed?!..” Video: ‘Is actually about two brand new pink hedgehogs!’ Me: ‘FACEPALM!’ “I swear someone is trolling here!!” This is an interesting find overall though. I do think this could be an interesting adaption overall with its space theming... Though not having Sonic in it sounds pretty questionable, like many adaptations do that type of thing? Even after them? I guess may be Digimon had spinoff anime with these type of risks, but I’m unsure on much else... It sounds like it would be an interesting comic or a small special, but I can’t see it go that far... Wonder if they used any of this for their other series at Dics?
Let's face it. As much as people like Sonic CD now, it wasn't really all that popular when it first came out (mostly because it came out for an add-on that most people either didn't want to shill extra money for or just weren't interested in general because it was a dumb idea). Everyone's attention was on the mainline Genesis games. We have rereleases to thank for CD's popularity and the first one on PC didn't come out until 1996. Heck, it took Archie until mid-1995 to introduce Amy Rose.
@@ScatterbrainPete Sigh guess you’re right, not even Metal Sonic, outside an anime thing, got much animated appearances. This is despite him mainly being the more popular of the two before Amy became a main character, even after Metal was still a very loved character.
I think I would’ve loved for this to be a show too. It could’ve been set in the same universe as SatAM and show us what Robotnik had planned for not just the galaxy but the rest of the universe as well. I can certainly see this as being a mix of serious and comedic storytelling and the cousins certainly do sound like they would’ve been fun characters and probably also could’ve made it into the Archie Comics. And as for other villains who knows? Maybe we could’ve gotten to see that show’s universe’s versions of Scratch and Grounder and that twin brother of Robotnik’s planned for Underground. While we may have never gotten this show maybe people could at least write fanfiction for it.
Meh, this feels more like it could fit into the universe of AoSTH due to its mostly comedic nature, but the plot sounds like it has more of a focus on mysteries, making me wonder if this will be Sonic meets Scooby-Doo.
After seeing that premise, yeeeeeah this definitely feels like stuff only DiC would produce if it had been greenlit. But in all seriousness, thank you for revealing and archiving this stuff.
While I don't mind the idea of exploring space with other alien races and having more possible family members for Sonic to have, I can KIND of see why this show might not have been made. Aside from the aspect of needing to juggle 3 shows at once already, this one feels sort of the least Sonic-y out of all of them. Aside from the main characters, Robotnik, his nephew, Scratch and Grounder, the use of Sonic/Mobius related lingo (the "MNN" and Comet Tails, latter being based on Tails's name but I doubt it was intentional), & Sonic's cameo for the typical 90's "the girl is fat!" episode, most of this feels like a completely different show. Like, not gonna lie, the Sonic elements that ARE there kind of feel like it's tacked onto a generic "high school in space" show. As far as how the show would have been received, my initial gut is telling me that it could have easily fallen into a niche of "only a handful of folks really like the show" like Underground. Granted, it would have been an interesting addition to diversify the series, but I feel like it could have been a black sheep of the franchise. Especially since back then appealing to girls sort of resulted into a copy paste result that a LOT of girl centered shows would have fallen under. Or just be sort of taken as a generic show, my brain thinks of comparing it to how the Snorks can be seen as a "lesser" iconic version of the Smurfs. I'm sure it would have had it's fans, but I feel like it would just be kind of on par with Underground as far as how people in general feel about it, maybe. It's hard to say but it very much feels like it could have easily fallen into the "this is too generic and too detached from Sonic" category.
Wow, you weren't kidding. This really IS a big find. A possible fourth Sonic show from DiC that predated Underground and even Christmas Blast. While it is a shame that it barely has anything to do with the actual source material and Sonic is reduced to cameos, the show's premise still sounds pretty interesting (and as 80's and 90's as it gets). I'm getting Galaxy High School and the Jetsons vibes from it. Also, having an episode of AoStH featuring Merlina definitely would've been interesting to watch. Oh well, at least there's Merlynx in that time-travelling search for Chaos Emeralds 4-parter. Personally, I still can't believe we almost got a Sonic/ToeJam & Earl crossover episode. Also, Scratch and Grounder were actually considered for Underground. Yay! Not gonna lie, I'd have prefered them over Sleet and Dingo. Too bad they didn't stick around. But you can tell they later got reworked as Sleet and Dingo. That's for sure. Also good to know that they still had the trio's father under consideration but Robotnik having a twin brother sounds kinda ridiculous, even when taking into consideration what we got in AoStH and Archie comics. If anything, it goes to show just how much of a mess the production of Underground actually was.
I’m convinced Sonia’s creation in Underground was a mistake they just ran with. They were probably meant to include Amy Rose but a mixup occurred with the name being smudged or misinterpreted the name on the sheets somehow and no one bothered checking with anyone from Sega on if that was kosher with them.
@@MILDMONSTER1234 Satam adopts the environmentalist story of Sonic 1 into something that’s more sustainable as an animated series, AoSTH adopts the Sonic travelling the world concept of Sonic 2 and 3 & Knuckles into a comedy series and Underground is just some red headed stepchildren that’s remembered largely for introducing Sonic’s actual family with names. The first two are both based on what the source material were about at the the time just adapted for a televised medium. This scrapped spinoff is so far removed from the source material that it may as well be divorced as a Sonic cartoon if you removed all the Sonic elements and make it some other DiC cartoon.
Actually, thinking about it a little more, I wonder if the idea of Robotnik having a twin brother would've been DiC's way of explaining why there were two different-looking Robotniks in their previous two shows. Also, after reading those documents about "Sonic and Friends", is anyone else thinking that Merlina (especially regarding her personality and dynamic with Sonic) may have later evolved into Sally? Also, I can't help but wonder if whatever work they had done for Super Sonic Sisters may have ended up being reused for Sonic Underground, particularly all the alien character designs and backgrounds taking place in outer space or in a futuristic city.
Say, is this Sister Sonic concept possibly related to the canceled "Sister Sonic" localization of Popful Mail that's a bit of ol' Falcom/Working Designs trivia? I admit, the summary of the premise doesn't sound like something that could work in a modified Popful Mail game at all, but I find it interesting that there's TWO canceled takes on the "Sonic Sister" concept. Edit: Also find it kinda amusing that the most story-breaking character of SatAM was an executive mandate. That all makes sense now...
It’d be weird if they were just done independently. I do think that cancelled game could have possibly influenced this show, maybe even have access to some designs that we still don’t have any concept drawings or artwork for; possibly making this cancelled cartoon our first look at anything related to ‘Sister Sonic’ since the magazine announcement.
@@rayvenkman2087 If they were connected, the link between the show and the game would explain a lot about the game's nature and cancellation. It'd have to be an incredibly elaborate re-skin to overhaul Mail's D&D-style world into a sci-fi space high school, and it'd be way more difficult to re-write the story with all it's cutscenes and voice acting compared to, say, what Mean Bean Machine was for Puyo Puyo. That said, it's very likely that like Mean Bean, there'd need to be more of the show to work off of for an actual game prototype to exist in theory. Mean Bean had scenes and characters recreated from AoStH's pilot... but if there's not even real concept art for Super Sonic Sisters, it's not very likely the doll-up got very far, making the talked-about Sega CD localization easy to cancel without sunk costs.
@@cabbussesI believe Sister Sonic’s cancellation wasn’t to do with the backlash it got in the magazine announcement because I find it hard to believe people in the early 1990’s in an era where gaming magazines reigned supreme would be that outraged over a Japanese game getting the Sonic branding. There’s games that were completely reworked from their original artworks including the original Persona for Playstation 1 when they got localised and no fuss were made about those games. It’s more likely they saw the sales for the Sega CD and the 32X (Not too sure if it and Knuckles Chaotix were out at this time or not) along with seeing the logistics of how much effort it would take to Sonicify the game as well as concerns about diluting the Sonic IP (Ironic giving what Sega had signed off on over the years...) which led to the plans being scrapped before localising the game as it was without any Sonic branding on it.
@@rayvenkman2087 The thing that's most strange about the "backlash" is that, logically, the cancellation would have gotten worse backlash... UNLESS you somehow already knew Working Designs got the rights to make a new localization. If the game and the document pitch are linked, then it's best to surmise that the game localization never got very far in the first place. My speculation: SOA and DiC may have worked on this pitch together, and then perhaps Sega tried getting a deal with Falcom to make the localization. The deal would be probably similar to Compile with Mean Bean Machine. However, going by the pitch vs. Popful Mail itself, I'd surmise all parties involved were in over their heads in regards to the sheer scope of the localization changes vs. the projected sales of this game, especially with Mean Bean as a comparison point. It's easy to believe that at this point both Falcom and Sega wanted out of the game tie-in, which may have contributed to the show's cancellation as well. Personally I'd be kinda disappointed if this was the case as that means there's likely no playable prototype, but it'd at least be a solid closure on this project's story. The reason Falcom made up the story about the fan letter campaign? NDAs. They would not have legally been allowed to discuss the project on a more nuanced, detailed level because of heavy involvement from DiC staff, including probably having access to these Sister Sonic documents and, if they ever existed, concept art or even a pilot. So Falcom decided to spin it in a way that made it sound like they listened to their own fanbase instead.... it probably helped that they probably already signed a deal with Working Designs by this time.
@@cabbusses That’d be more likely than a pre-internet gamer backlash for a game that’s not a big title like Driver 3 was before release. Considering the time it takes for the announcement to come out, how long it would take for the fan response to reach them and how far along they would have been by the time the announcement came along. Heck, I believe there’s more to the Ken Penders vs Archie lawsuit than what we know and I think that there could have been some kind of espionage sabotage involved on Ken’s behalf when it comes to Archie not having the papers to prove they or rather Sega legally owns the characters and thus Ken winning ownership of his characters. Why I think this? Because considering Archie is apart of the same industry as DC Comics and an industry known for swindling creators out of their character ownership including most famously Superman. Archie’s been around long enough to know how to practice that hustle and thus I find it so hard to believe that Ken Penders was able to get one over them in the lawsuit but not the other more highly regarded creators. Archie and Sega realistically would have legally squashed him like a bug under their boot in any other point in time.
I wonder how the infamous Chris Chan would have responded to _Super Sonic Sisters_ in his youth had the show been greenlit and made. Keep up the good work.
If Team Sea3on's SatAM revival does well, I do wonder if maybe they'll consider the idea of bringing Super Sonic Sisters to life next… I could easily see Jamie Costa being cast as Cal Tech, for instance.
If this show was made, I'd love to have watched it! I enjoyed SATAM and TAOSTH. I feel like this show would have been a mix of seriousness with some comedy mixed in, and I like this balance. I personally prefer SATAM over TAOSTH. GwenLongcrierCat did a great job with the artwork! I'd love to see some space action, futuristic stuff and the news reporting. I feel like the high school plots could easily become filler. I'm so glad you found the documents of an unmade show!
That's pretty amazing. Also that bit you mentioned about them adding Dulcy to SatAM due to a command to appeal to girls more is nuts. I guess Sally and Bunnie were too womanly to appeal to girls. XD
And kind of ironically, Bunnie appeared less and less in Season 2 (and Rosie Woodchuck seemed involved, but only in the Blast to the Past two-parter), while Lupe is only given one episode- her debut. (Extra surprising is that they didn't use Amy, but that's a general Early Archie thing.) At least Stargazing/Dear Ally onwards, Reboot, Prime (by not having Amy be the sole girl), and IDW Sonic are aiming to balance the roles.
I don't know about the high school portion of the concept, but it does give a nice contrast to the child revolutionaries concept of SatAM and the nomadic nature of AOSTH. A more common domestic childhood setting than the other two series had. Personally, I see a not quite as good Galaxy High School. I'd want to see more of the space pirates and battles with Robotnik. I'd want the school news program bit to be some sort of anti-Robotnik rebel broadcast, and considering that their teacher was fired for not being pro-Robotnik propaganda that seems like a good angle. The only thing that made me openly ugh, though? Yeah. We ALL know who would REALLY love that weight gain episode. No doubt there's already fetish art on DA the second it was mentioned in the video.
@@AdventureMaster18 Had that episode aired, it would have been like the Passion Patties of the Sonic franchise. I hate that I know that. Also, seems that whoever wrote the movie Mean Girls owes Phil Harnage a check. Wasn't that something Lindsey Lohan's character did to the Queen Bee girl?
this is SO fascinating, thank you so much for uncovering this and letting us know! i always do wonder about all the rejected pitches for animated shows out there, but especially for something as huge as sonic the hedgehog cartoon shows?!? incredible discovery! :D also, the art in this is fantastic, kudos to GwenLongcrierCat!
Wow, lots of praise for this cancelled cartoon, yet when Sega tried to do it, they were hazed nonstop until they caved and decided to cancel Sister Sonic and release Popful Mail as is.
I find it hard to believe Sister Sonic was cancelled because of the negative reaction to the announcement. Especially in an era when the internet wasn’t quite the place to be for gaming knowledge while gaming magazines were the dominant source of gaming-related information and where not many people would know what’s in Japan unless you knew a forum about it. I think they were just going to go through with the initial localisation plan before changing their minds when they saw how the Sega CD was doing in sales and having second thoughts about dilution of the Sonic IP at the time which led to the game in question to make out of Japan without the Sonic branding.
Speaking of space, it would've been an amazing cartoon show if there was ever one about the Fleetway's Sonic the Comic's interpretation of the Chaotix where they travel through the Special Zone as guardians
I assume it's because she has pretty much no story to work with. While adorable, she's easily the most tacked-on & irrelevant character of the SatAM cast
@@rayvenkman2087 Considering DIC didn't seem to know about Amy since she wasn't used for their female centered Sonic series, it's more than likely they never knew about Monica Mouse with her only being in the manga (which Amy also first appeared in prior to Sonic CD.)
@@KatelynJewel It’s probably like the case of how Transformers’ Tailgate was somehow turned into Wipeout in the Marvel Comics where Trypticon debuts while Tailgate himself never shows up in the US Comics or the whole case of Hauler’s existence in the More Than Meets The Eye three-parter of the Sunbow cartoon as a precursor to G1 Grapple In 1984 while it’s believed Grapple’s toy was meant to be apart of the 1984 assortment when the pilot aired and for Amy, they could have erroneously turned her into Sonia for Underground or whatever through some kind of behind the scenes mixup.
I think this would've been cool to see as a show. I wasn't born with the DiC Sonic cartoon's but I did love them when I discovered them like in the 2010's or something. Sucks that this was cancelled and Isabelle and Monica were scrapped. Still would've love to watch this if it was made ^_^
This crazy to hear, that this was an idea, even weirder that this was gonna be made just because DIC thought Sonic was only popular with boys when Sonic has a huge female fandom as well. But that’s the beauty of the 80s and 90s when certain cartoons were made for a specific gender
Alright, I got quite some things to say 1. Personally, I can see this show definitely being more like AOSTH but aimed towards a female audience more, followed by the space theme. Most of the ideas they had felt silly in a AOSTH fashion 2. I feel like this show would have been memorable in a good way, but not as much as AOSTH and SATAM, it wouldnt have been the worst show to exist, but it wouldnt have been the best either, personally, considering the ideas for this show and what i said in the first statement, I probably wouldve almost liked this show as much at AOSTH, i've kinda been more of a AOSTH guy than a SATAM one growing up (not saying SATAM is bad though, heck i sort of had a phase relating to it a long time ago)
Just wanted to say that the art seen here was made by GwenLongcrierCat, and isn't actual art made by DiC. So any visual similarities to the other shows were interpreted by Gwen and isn't exactly what DiC may have went with.
@@AdventureMaster18 Yeah, I know, I more was referring to the ideas....but i suppose in the middle of writing that comment that my memory kinda got all wonky for a second, i'll edit the comment in a bit
@@rushedadventurefan4380 aosth is amazing cause it’s a looney tunes tier shitpost and I love it. Satam is good but just another generic 90s action cartoon
Not surprised we didn't end up getting this, honestly. I would say that even as big a departure from Sonic as Underground still kept the core element of "Sonic fights Robotnik". A show like this that doesn't even necessarily contain either of them nor any sort of normal terrestrial setting would be a risk of *ahem* cosmic proportions. It does hurt to hear that apparently Dulcy was an attempt at crossgender appeal for SatAM when she's commonly blamed for stealing screentime that could have gone to Bunnie, a character who is more likable on...every level, I guess?
If AoStH had better continuity, I could see these two being in the show as reporters who often tangle with Sonic in terms of reminding him that he may BE everywhere but they KNOW everything given they have their eye and nose in everything. It would be especially great if their show annoyed Robotnik if they constantly reported on his failures and lies.
Maybe but that just leaves us with a Transformers: Earthforce’s relationship with the Marvel US/UK canon for Sonic in terms of how do these two things co-exists because of timeline contradictions between each other.
I’m mixed on the super sonic sisters concept On one side,I get what dic was trying to do, create a sonic cartoon for a female audience, and to be fair that’s how business works, However, the sonic franchise at that time and even today already appeals to everyone, and female characters were created within adventures and satam (my opinions on adventures aside) I also feel that this could fall under the category of good ideas but poor execution, i actually don’t mind a slice of life sonic cartoon (I can definitely see it being similar to powerpuff girls, my life as a teenage robot, dexters lab, my gym partners a monkey, Danny phantom, clone high etc), however being generic, interchangeable, and maybe even predictable is something that I don’t want in a sonic cartoon which the high school setting could unfortunately fall into if not handled well When I think of sonic, I think of grand adventures, chaotic creativity, interesting characters, and vice versa All in all, if this was greenlighted, it could be a forgettable but passable series to tide sonic fans over for the next one, or a hidden gem that was swept under the radar the same way time squad was swept under the radar, or it could be a disaster that’s doomed from the start Bottom line, While it’s interesting seeing canceled sonic projects and what they could’ve been, I personally don’t know about this one And yeah, I do feel obnotnik is a terrible name for an eggman esque character for the series
Fieryfurnace got the documents a few weeks back, and we decided to properly announce the discovery of the documents with this video. You can check out the actual documents in the description if you wanna read them yourself!
It's funny because there was going to be a game called Sister Sonic for the Sega CD which was apparently a western localized version of Popful Mail and didn't went through due to backlash. Only we would finally get the game untacted from Working Designs.
I find it hard to believe the backlash was why they scrapped it because who actually knew what Popful Mail was outside of hardcore gamers with access to Internet forums.
Every time I look back at the past of the DiC cartoons, it just comes off as them biting off more than they could chew. Like...seriously, as much as I love both SatAM and Adventures, we PROBABLY didn't need two Sonic cartoons made and airing at the exact same time.
Me and my boyfriend were going threw the documents of these shows, [at the time we were not sure if they were real or fake] we were slowly losing are minds at some of some of the potential ideas but also having a blast for how absurd they were. xD
It would be better if DiC made a spinoff series for Sally if they wanted to appeal to the female audiences. I feel like Sonic Sisters will be criticized for not having Sonic in the Show, It is called SONIC Sisters its not a brand name its the name of the character. And they are not even Sonic's sisters the title is misleading.
Man they REALLY were just willing to throw... WHATEVER at the wall to see what would stick for Sonic, huh? It's like that that old Jontron clip "What the FUCK is a Sonic!?"
6:29 anything with a school setting (I don’t care who it’s aimed at, what the school is about, what happened in the story or how realistic the school is) makes me want to drive in to a pool.
@@AdventureMaster18 I personally wouldn't object to it being used that way tbh, I wouldn't mind at all if someone casually called me 'dude'. But I get the impression it hasn't quite gained the same gender-neutral status in general as 'guys'. Maybe it's starting to though? No reason it can't, I guess. :)
as a 21 year old who grew up on rental dvds of satam , aosth, and underground, this would have literally been my favorite show as a kid. hands down it would have flopped but little smolbee would have loved it
i think this would have been one of those cartoosn where no one talks about it, does well for a little while, gets cancelled, then decades later people talk about how they love the show
So they go to school, write papers and solve mysteries? I guess the paper writing and mystery solving thing kind of goes together... They have to make this now. No going back. The fans own you! You have to do it Sonic company! In seriousness I would binge this series to death!
I guess a chili dog makes Isabel lose control? 😛 I wonder if this was connected to the plans to rework Popful Mail as a Sonic spinoff? That was supposed to become "Sister Sonic" but never happened, and we got the Working Designs localization of the original. It doesn't seem like it'd work without an Isekei'd plot, or rebuilding the whole game, though.
I... actually would have watched it. It's quite fascinating to revolve different characters casts and new scenarios. I actually wish this was pure canon. Think of the comics I wonder just how much potential would've been brought out.
Oh this makes a lot of sense with that weird cancelled Sonic game called Sister Sonic that was supposed to be a re-skin of Popful Mail for the SNES and Sega CD, where could had a focus on Sonic's Sister going on adventures using a sword and having more RPG elements than a regular Sonic game, of course because the game was a re-skin of Popful Mail.
The premise of this show sounds like it would work better for a completely different show that's not DiC Sonic. I think there are later shows that used this similar premise like Sister Sister or Lloyd In Space. A very 90s or early 2000s preteen/teen sitcom
I would rather see Hanna-Barbera(the guys behind Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, Johnny Quest, Scooby-Doo, Top Cat, etc), be responsible behind these Nintendo and SEGA shows, rather than DiC!.. 'Cause i really like some of their action works and so on.
It's funny how this cancelled show wanted to focus on a female demographic, and despite it being a really interesting premise, Sonic satam still appeals to me more regardless. Sonic is just *cool*, no matter the gender of his audience.
On the one hand I can't see ANY WAY for "Super Sonic Sisters" to ever happen...on the other hand, it sounds like "Deep Space Nine" with Sonic and I WISH it happened!
I would've honestly hated this show if it were greenlit. Having a Sonic spinoff cartoon in an era where nothing about the franchise was established seems like a horrible idea!
Ngl but i was dissapotined they removed Scratch and Grounder and replaced with Sleet and Dingo. Now before you say, no. I don't hate Sleet and Dingo, it's just i was dissapotined after i see original content of Sonic Undergound. Like imagine we went to two goofy brothers trying capture Sonic to badass brothers or some shit. Even if Sonic Underground was not good, i rather watch this two than anybody else.
Wow Sonic was going have a bigger family in the TV show universe I would love see a show about his two cusions ,I just love the idea of seeing the main cast family members, we wouldn't know if the show turn out good or not.The Sonic sisters huh sounds interesting
Thanks for delivering the news, but there was no reason to insult Underground. To me it's more serious than Adventures but less, well, boring than Satam, which I still can't finish the first five episodes of.
Yeah I think it would definitely work for a idw storyline so we could see some of sonic's family in it Plus we would get new original characters characters we have never seen before and were in development for a long time
1:21 Merlina wasn't the only thing that AOSTH might have inspired, as there was actually a whole episode abotu Sonic going to a theme park built by Eggman, which has parts of Sonic colors in it.

I gotta say this idea for a sonic show sounds pretty interesting and gotta ask in your opinion
Think it would be a good idea if this storyline could work in the idw comics?
Wow. Credit to the artist for making something so close to DiC art that they're confused for _actual_ DiC art! Bravo!
When is the novel coming? I'd like to check it out! This has me more excited than Console Wars by Blake J. Harris!
@@macuser7048 I'm hoping to release it sometime late next year.
Yay
To be honest the pitch for the Super Sonic sister show sounds like it work good as a series of network bumpers than a actual show.
Or an edutainment game.
I agree
Yea
@NES At least Underground gave us two neat hedgehog designs...
In my opinion, the main reason for the failure of the series was Sonia's voice and personality. If they would have casted a female voice for Sonia, I might have given her personality and overall story a pass.
I am amazed that it was planned for Scratch and Grounder to be brought back in these other shows!
I feel like Orbot, & Cubot are Dollar Store Replacements of Scratch & Grounder.
Now I hate Underground MORE. Not that Sleet and Dingo weren't the highlight of the series (along with Manic), but I'd love to have seen a darker, grittier Scratch and Grounder acting under a SatAM Robotnik.
Don't forget boco and deco from sonic x.
Seems Eggman loves having 2 robots working for him. The dumb short one and the tall smarter sassy one.
YES EXACTLY MISSED OPPORTUNITY!
They knew about Amy.
See the concept art with Sally from Satam. Some of them looks like Amy Rose.
@NESI think they knew about her, because ABC communicate with Oshima and Naka abt future cartoons
@NES It's during Sonic Adventure were the Rose girl gain more attention.
I do wonder why they changed it from Scratch and Grounder to Sleet and Dingo. I think the former would've been more fun, even in a darker setting.
@@AdventureMaster18 Best guess is branding.

The 90s were weird but in a fascinating way!
The 1990’s Sonic DiC Animated television series (AoSTH, SatAM & Underground) were very interesting, I honestly wish they made more!
Now I want to see a bit Sonic family reunion. These two, their parents, Bernie, Jules, Aleena, Sonia, Manic, the red and yellow Sonic brothers, the Popful Mail based Sister Sonic, Nicky's whole Family, all of his relatives we saw in AoStH, all the Uncle Chucks, etc.
the poor chili dog cook....
@@targettoad691 Why do you think I said "All the Chucks"? It's so they can divide the work and speed it up.
Then add Nicky from Manga and “Tonic” from Sonic the Comic.
@NES I agree, especially with Bernie and Jules being Ken Penders' property.
Is almost sounds like it IS *part of* Sonic Underground...
8:16 - “Isabelle and Monica share a room that’s every Sonic the Hedgehog team’s dream: Jetsons meets Star Wars!”

You don't know what the other side of the bedroom looks like. Could be normal on one side and crazy future stuff on the other lol.
This is basically a storyboard sketch. The most we could expect is a few blobs with "LAVA LAMP" etc written on them tacked around the place
‘Sees this vid with a pink hedgehog in a cancelled Dic Sonic cartoon.’
Me: “Could this be the Amy Rose Dic adaption we missed?!..”
Video: ‘Is actually about two brand new pink hedgehogs!’
Me: ‘FACEPALM!’ “I swear someone is trolling here!!”
This is an interesting find overall though.
Phil Harnage was the writer of the "Mama Luigi" episode of the Super Mario World cartoon and had a decent career at DiC. Interesting find.
Monica and Isabelle's dad looks like he Just Wants To Grill, For Aurora's Sake.
Underrated comment.
“Barely to do with the source material “ to be fair it’s not like aosth, underground, and Satam were accurate in the slightest
@@MILDMONSTER1234 even compared to those, I'd say

This is amazing!
Jake, when I fouind out that Sonic Underground was cancelled, I cried.
So the Super Sonic Sisters are basically alternate universe Squid Sisters?
That's pretty amazing. Also that bit you mentioned about them adding Dulcy to SatAM due to a command to appeal to girls more is nuts. I guess Sally and Bunnie were too womanly to appeal to girls. XD
And kind of ironically, Bunnie appeared less and less in Season 2 (and Rosie Woodchuck seemed involved, but only in the Blast to the Past two-parter), while Lupe is only given one episode- her debut.
(Extra surprising is that they didn't use Amy, but that's a general Early Archie thing.)
At least Stargazing/Dear Ally onwards, Reboot, Prime (by not having Amy be the sole girl), and IDW Sonic are aiming to balance the roles.

12:43 Oh wowie who is that overly detailed curvy body girl snake?
I wonder why Dulcie was rarely used & written out of the comic books. Is it because she was so large that it was awkward to draw her in little panels?
I assume it's because she has pretty much no story to work with. While adorable, she's easily the most tacked-on & irrelevant character of the SatAM cast
Coincidentally, there was a mouse character named Monica in the Sonic manga who was one of Amy's best friends.
Probably a case of reusing a name. Happens all the time in Transformers with Bulkhead being a notable example.

This crazy to hear, that this was an idea, even weirder that this was gonna be made just because DIC thought Sonic was only popular with boys when Sonic has a huge female fandom as well. But that’s the beauty of the 80s and 90s when certain cartoons were made for a specific gender
you sound like Weird Al and I can't get enough of it
Alright, I got quite some things to say
1. Personally, I can see this show definitely being more like AOSTH but aimed towards a female audience more, followed by the space theme. Most of the ideas they had felt silly in a AOSTH fashion

She's a Dragon Tales character pasted over a Sonic show.
Made a Poochie.
I’m mixed on the super sonic sisters concept
On one side,I get what dic was trying to do, create a sonic cartoon for a female audience, and to be fair that’s how business works,
However, the sonic franchise at that time and even today already appeals to everyone, and female characters were created within adventures and satam (my opinions on adventures aside)
I also feel that this could fall under the category of good ideas but poor execution, i actually don’t mind a slice of life sonic cartoon (I can definitely see it being similar to powerpuff girls, my life as a teenage robot, dexters lab, my gym partners a monkey, Danny phantom, clone high etc), however being generic, interchangeable, and maybe even predictable is something that I don’t want in a sonic cartoon which the high school setting could unfortunately fall into if not handled well
When I think of sonic, I think of grand adventures, chaotic creativity, interesting characters, and vice versa
All in all, if this was greenlighted, it could be a forgettable but passable series to tide sonic fans over for the next one, or a hidden gem that was swept under the radar the same way time squad was swept under the radar, or it could be a disaster that’s doomed from the start
Bottom line, While it’s interesting seeing canceled sonic projects and what they could’ve been, I personally don’t know about this one
And yeah, I do feel obnotnik is a terrible name for an eggman esque character for the series
did this literally just come out? I can't believe all this information coming out so late in the morning.

It's funny because there was going to be a game called Sister Sonic for the Sega CD which was apparently a western localized version of Popful Mail and didn't went through due to backlash. Only we would finally get the game untacted from Working Designs.

6:29 anything with a school setting (I don’t care who it’s aimed at, what the school is about, what happened in the story or how realistic the school is) makes me want to drive in to a pool.
This new breakthrough video deserves more views and attention!
Narration: "a rad dude" On-screen text: "A woman" wait wut
Dude is a gender neutral term.
as a 21 year old who grew up on rental dvds of satam , aosth, and underground, this would have literally been my favorite show as a kid. hands down it would have flopped but little smolbee would have loved it
smol^2bee
i think this would have been one of those cartoosn where no one talks about it, does well for a little while, gets cancelled, then decades later people talk about how they love the show
So they go to school, write papers and solve mysteries? I guess the paper writing and mystery solving thing kind of goes together...
They have to make this now. No going back. The fans own you! You have to do it Sonic company! In seriousness I would binge this series to death!
I guess a chili dog makes Isabel lose control? 😛
I wonder if this was connected to the plans to rework Popful Mail as a Sonic spinoff?
A News channel presented by 2 girls who are not alike the other... why this sounds so much like Splatoon?
bro the guy narrating this video sounds like mario without the italian accent
It’s tough to get through 😢
That's kinda rude.
@@AdventureMaster18 i’m truth it was a compliment
Sonic Prime is technically a 4th DIC Sonic, but this one looked wild & unique.
It's funny how this cancelled show wanted to focus on a female demographic, and despite it being a really interesting premise, Sonic satam still appeals to me more regardless. Sonic is just *cool*, no matter the gender of his audience.
It fascinates me how with Mario Dic stayed pretty close to the source (even with all the insanity) But with sonic they went "fuck it" GO NUTS.
On the one hand I can't see ANY WAY for "Super Sonic Sisters" to ever happen...on the other hand, it sounds like "Deep Space Nine" with Sonic and I WISH it happened!
Hmmmm… Sonic Sisters? I wonder if they were planning on using this concept for the supposed reskin of the US release of Popful Mail on Sega CD.
lol, what if *this* was the cartoon "Sister Sonic" for the SEGA CD was going to be based on...
This sounds like a fanfiction. I feel like this would have been a flop idea as-is. It's just too out there for a Sonic-related concept IMO.
Oh my god this is insane, I wish they actually made it XD
I would've honestly hated this show if it were greenlit. Having a Sonic spinoff cartoon in an era where nothing about the franchise was established seems like a horrible idea!
Ooo I love me some sonic triva 🥳
Ngl but i was dissapotined they removed Scratch and Grounder and replaced with Sleet and Dingo.
Now before you say, no.
I don't hate Sleet and Dingo, it's just i was dissapotined after i see original content of Sonic Undergound.
Like imagine we went to two goofy brothers trying capture Sonic to badass brothers or some shit.
Even if Sonic Underground was not good, i rather watch this two than anybody else.
This sounds like a show that would've been truly fucking bizarre, but would probably still be more fondly remembered than Sonic Underground.
I would’ve loved this show if it was made.
Wow Sonic was going have a bigger family in the TV show universe I would love see a show about his two cusions ,I just love the idea of seeing the main cast family members, we wouldn't know if the show turn out good or not.The Sonic sisters huh sounds interesting
This is the most early 90's show that never got made
I'm planning on a Sonic Satam Sequel Called Sonic Satam A Return to Freedom a sequel to the Sonic Satam Series
I wonder if this project was related to the cancelled Popful Mail reskin game "Sister Sonic"
We may never know how this fourth DIC sonic serie turn out.
Thanks for delivering the news, but there was no reason to insult Underground. To me it's more serious than Adventures but less, well, boring than Satam, which I still can't finish the first five episodes of.
I don't hate Underground. I like some elements, it's just that it's a pretty flawed show imo.
Super Sonic Sisters looks like it would be an animated cartoon sitcom 😂
Incredible. They tried to make a Sonic show, and ended up (almost) making a Space Channel 5 show almost a decade before Space Channel 5.
Oh wow. Now that you mention it, it IS pretty similar to Space Channel 5. I never even thought about this. Mind blown.
Space Channel 5 meets Splatoon basically.
I wonder if this project has any connection to the infamously cancelled "SonicSister" game Sega scrapped back in the 90's
And I thought the fourth Sonic show was X lol
If this show was made. Archie and IDW would put Isabelle and Monica in one of their Sonic comics.
Consider as co-anchors to Wes Weasley in the Champions arc, a pair of porcupines named Bella and Moniker.
You mean Monika not Moniker, and what do you mean co-anchors to Wes Weasley
@@manicgamerthehedgehog No, I mean Moniker- as a sort of "spin" on their names, instead of literally the kids.
@@amesstarline5482 oh I get it
Yeah I think it would definitely work for a idw storyline so we could see some of sonic's family in it
Plus we would get new original characters characters we have never seen before and were in development for a long time
DIC was really trying to make a cinematic universe 20 years before Marvel.
I would love for someone to make a fan made pilot for the series.
Hello new fanfic idea! :3
Wow, so interesting!
1:21 Merlina wasn't the only thing that AOSTH might have inspired, as there was actually a whole episode abotu Sonic going to a theme park built by Eggman, which has parts of Sonic colors in it.
Wow. As a long time Sonic fan, I did not see this coming.
I doubt society would be ready for this even in 2025
I like the idea of a Sonic show that doesn’t focus on Sonic, but why do they have his speed powers???
