My car has a play/pause button on its steering wheel and that's pretty cool too
OMG, mine doesn't
I have a BJ button on my steering wheel. It's pretty worn out to be honest.

The fact that the drink button is not standard in consumer vehicles is honestly an outrage
My question is who wants hot water?!
It is now in the McLaren Senna albeit being a 6k option :D
That sounds like a whole lot of law suits from DUI accidents but still a great idea....

I have a logitech G29 and that thing has a few more buttons than the F1 wheel, I use almost all of them when playing the F1 games, and if i didn't have half the shit on "quick settings" like he was talking about the modifiers idk how the hell i would manage, actually going through menus mid race must be insane

That's a grand total of 26 buttons all custom mappable however you want. Then you also have 3 pedal set and an H pattern shifter (which you can use for mode changes if you map each gear for a different mode). That is easily comparable in complexity.

Having this explained by a real driver instead of a RUclipsr was brilliant.
....not that there’s anything wrong with RUclipsrs, it’s just that he seems to know the minutia of things in a bit greater detail :)
"Real driver" is a bit of a stretch. Real back up driver who has never actually driven in an F1 event....
How is it a stretch? He drives F2 and he's the reserve driver for Renault F1... Might not have an F1 seat just yet, but that's still a real racing driver.
@@Tempcore_ It's a stretch because he's never used a formula 1 wheel in an actual race. Idk about you but when I'm learning what something does, I prefer tips from someone who's actually used it for it's intended purpose.
@@MonstaMunch101 not trying to be an internet troll at all but he still probably has plenty of seat time in an f1 car and is more than likely fully familiar with everything. You're right about an official race but he's got to havd driven the car and put in laps in it to even get the spot he has now
@@MonstaMunch101 That doesn't mean he doesn't know just as much about the functions as a top-tier RUclipsr or an F1 driver. Remember that there are many jobs where you are not 'real' for at least 4 years. Does that mean you don't trust anybody within that framework, such as pre-doctors/med-students or whatever? They clearly still know everything needed for general information (which is all this is), it's just that they haven't actually worked on a human body by themselves yet. In fact, I don't think you'll be a 'real doctor' for at least 6 years, though some jobs only require 3-4. Still, he's clearly a real driver and more so than a RUclipsr, just not a real F1 driver is all.

They could get rid of 2 of them *and* solve the pit box side issue quite easily by installing a foot clutch pedal.
@@MikeDCWeld there is no room for more than 2-foot holders that are used as pedals.
@@MrHaggyy that can be fixed. It's all a question of design.
I can't imagine how the racer handle all of that buttons while drive at high speed.
All the buttons you may need to press are on the top handle or on the paddles, all the rest is just settings, fallback configurations and stuff you can probably change while a pit stop.
anyone who's played racing _games_ knows how to work with multiple buttons at high speed.
racing simulators, flight simulators, sailing simulators.... more often than not, you need a keyboard to manage all the controls.
With what they call, "skills to pay the bills"
I think that modern F1 cars are 'easier'. Almost everything you will need 99% of the time can be reached at all times with your hands at the top and behind the wheel. Pretty sure their fingers don't move around the wheel much during a race. I think the hard part is actually driving well at such high speeds around a course. It's talent and training and normally from a young age. By age 12 or so these people learnt to handle 3-4 things with hands and feet at the same time in Karting and such. I guess this is just 4-6 buttons/paddles at once most of the time.
Most drivers have to train for a long period of time with the tech in practical situations such as sprint races before they hit the tarmac in a professional forum. By then, the buttons become second nature to each one, to a fault at times surely.
D is for drink.

"Like a road car but not really because it's an F1 car" - Jack 2k18
There's a goddamn "Drink" button.....GTFOH! I thought he was going to make a joke but he's serious!
DJHeroMasta Yeah. They have small water tank for driver since f1 isn’t exactly as easy to drive as Go kart. It’s physically taxing so yeah a drink would help a lot.
The drink bag system is strictly to keep the drivers from passing out from heat exhaustion; he's not kidding when he says the engine makes it unpalatably hot (enough to where some guys put tea instead of water in there so it's nice and hot midway through the race). Regardless of what the beverage is, there's not a lot of it (about 1 liter) and the only option if you have to piss during a race is to go in your suit.
I know some don't even bother with the drink bag, since it saves a few precious pounds in weight. Schumi reportedly never used a drink bag; he'd super-hydrate himself before each race, then intentionally piss himself after about 10 laps (or once he was in a stable defensive position). The piss would then evaporate through his suit in the hot cockpit over the course of the rest of the race, saving even more weight. Lewis Hamilton has hinted he does something similar.
King Belial what if they want to piss after drinking all that water🧐🤨
@@easonchen8591 they pee in their suit, it's not like you can stop midway through a race and go on a bathroom break
Peeing is fine and all but what about poop?
7:03 "But not really 'cos it's an F1 car" hahahah brilliant!
So here's the rundown, this button does something cool, this button is definitely a button. Here's a knob, you can turn it if you want but you might die. This button also does something but I can't remember. This button turns the car into the batmobile. Best part about the wheel is when you turn it, the car will steer 😱

The double clutch paddles have more reason than just entering the your box at the pitlane. As one hand is necessary for a gear change, the other hand is used for the clutch paddle. For example, you can't use the clutch on the right hand and use the right hand to upshift gears too. Hence, clutch paddles on both sides.
