@@Dirtyboxer1 "if women don't find you handsome at least let them find you handy". The best quality DIY on internet that I found. Measuring the temp before and after is what made me do it. And like you said "a clogged ac is nothing more than a glorified fan" lmao ty so much !
For mine, I used a pressure washer and a 40 degree nozzle to keep the pressure from being too high, and then a leaf blower loosen any other dirt in it. Other than that, those units can work even during a heavy rain storm, thus they are fine with quick use after washing them. I regularly clean it to save on the electric bill.
next time I would say just turn the leaf blower on it first, then user water. That crud will clean out better and easier when its dry and that leaf blower will move a massive amount of air and dry out any "wet or moist" debris.. But yeah you do have to wash down or blow out even your central AC units on the outside twice a year to keep them working right.. glad it helped and awesome to see classic content!
I tried blowing super high pressure air through it with my AC first (didn't make it in the final video) and it didn't move anything. That crud was baked on like some kind of clay cake. Is that just dirt and mud? Or is it like tree sap from the trees in my back yard? The stuff was a nightmare to get out. What the video doesn't show you is that 2 hours of several cycles going back and fourth to get it all out.
@@Barnacules dude that is all the stuff floating around in the air. Basically as it sticks to the condensation on the radiator it turns to mud and the repeated drying and moisture basically get it to become a crud cake so to speak... I know for my AC units out here in Texas I have to turn the hose on em every few months.. I would recommend doing that too even if it's blowing well... Also if you're going to get up in a ladder to do it please take as many breaks as you need and might I recommend a camel pack backpack or some other bladder type pack so you can get hydration instantly while your up on the ladder.. most of all take care of yourself big guy.. this is coming from someone who would make you look small... Keep up the awesome work brother! Can't wait to see more 😎😎💪💪
Yeah your compressor appears to be going off on overload because the pressures are rising due to no heat transfer on the condenser. Which would make sense when you spray it down with the hose you got 1. cold water on there and 2. you might have cleaned it enough to let some airflow through for a little bit. But yeah i think thats by far one of the dirtiest condensers i have ever seen! Great video man! I have been cleaning my 20 year old window AC every 2 years or so and it runs great!
I’m a professional HVAC installer and repairer (25 years experience). I also repAir window units on weekly basis. Next time your units airflow becomes comprised, I suggest an easier approach. All you need is 1jar of honey and a tea bag. Turn the unit off. Put the tea bag INTO about 8 ounces of hot water. Then take the honey and put it on some toast with butter. Pour the tea and enjoy. Then go ahead and install a split system. 🤣😂
last night I noted my shop AC was having the same symptoms. I went to take it out like you, but I decided to go outside to make sure everything was clear before pulling it. That is when I realized I still had the winter air-tight cover on it... Now it works!
Great video! just an FYI they sell something called an ac coil cleaner foam at lowes or home depot if you spray it on that crud then flush with water it should all go away!

So I'm sitting here writing this on the day that I started a new season of using my A/C unit - it was spitting out barely cool (not cold) air. Pissed me off, because I have too many other projects to tend to, and after some landscaping all afternoon at almost 90 degrees, I was looking forward to running my A/C for the first time. I know it probably only needs a cleaning (done it before), but if it has a refrigerant leak, I'll deal with that. Bottom line: You've made a great video. It's informative, accurate, and entertaining. *WOW!* It's been 4 years? That video was the first one I watched of you, because I was installing a window unit and wanted to see how not to do it... 😉😂🤣
If you go to your local Home Depot (maybe others as well) will sell a product called AC coil cleaner. It’s an aerosol can that comes out mostly as a liquid and foams up to push the dirt out from the coil. Let it sit then rinse it out really well.
Agreed, but it's been outside for years? without being cleaned, so I guess there's a lot that's hard stuck in there. Blowing first would probably get rid of a large chunk of it, though, if not just the fresh dust.
I do this to my air cons at the end of every summer, I have an Amana AC that is now 29 years old and still runs great. Removing the fan shroud and fan makes it easier to reach the condenser fins, which you can then clean with a soft brush mild soap and then rinse all the crap out of it. Good job none the less.
@@Barnacules Ah! That's no problem - life gets in the way sometimes! I have been watching you since you inspired me to have my own mancave - and love it! So thank you! 😊
Real A/C repairman here... Frost is not good. Those pipes should not frost over like that. Frost is a sign that the coils are still pretty dirty and are not getting the proper airflow to exchange the heat out of the room. You didn't really save yourself money, you just bought yourself some time. That will need to be replaced before the summer hits or you will melt like a Klondike bar in a sauna. Edit: however if the frost was short-lived on those end turns and then it cleared up all will be right in the world. Otherwise, she has given all she will give after 4 years of being ridden hard.
Good news, the frost actually went away after about 20 minutes and hasn't returned even though the compressor is cycling. I suspect it had something to do with first time startup after all that or maybe it just needed to get some water in the pan out of the air. But thank you for telling me about this, because right now there is zero frost.
@@Barnacules I edited my reply to add that fact in as well. All should be good in the world then... As long as the frost cleared up and she is blowing you hard (you wish, lulz), I mean cold air.
This is one of the most entertaining videos out on how clean Window unit 😂😂 thank you my man i feel alot more confident doing so now i dont really want spend $500

I used to enjoy jerry but without any new videos it’s not worth subbing or watching his livestream videos. He basically went from “wanting to do a review on the switch lite, but instead we got this.
I used to repair a lot of window ac units and cleaning them helps massively. Most of them ship with very small refrigerant leaks so after 3 or 4 years they need refrigerant. Your ac is definitely a little low, there should never be frost on the evaporator. For r22 systems you can top them off with propane if you have to but I would recommend just replacing it with a mini split ac when it stops working. You can get a mini split heat pump off ebay for under $500. You could install it your self easily. Just buy the ac, a vacuum pump and a gauge set.
Ironically it didn't turn her on that much to see me destroy my back hahahaha, I think next time I'll go the hand truck route like my wife suggested in the first place. I just didn't wanna go find it.
Yeah I'm a big guy(6' 9"), but even when I can carry things myself, if there's a cart, hand truck, etc... to make it easier, I use it. Though at work I'll carry a jack hammer or bag or portland, which is 80+ pounds, and it's not a big deal because I am use to it.
DAMN GOOD IDEA to force that soap through the fins with the air hose, and let it sit in the fins! FINALLY one of these videos with something that will really help. Thank you!
This is a terrific room air conditioner. Our main unit went out but this unit is just as good for my living area. My electric bill went down as well. Glad we got it.
Haven’t watched this in quite some time but have to say this is one great video! Funny thing… at my in-laws house they bought three of these LG units. They might be the same one as yours. When it gets warm I’d go down to their house to install them. Few years ago I dropped one out the window! Somehow I fixed it and it still works today! 😂
feel free to put it in the window wet, just dry off the plug and it should be fine, they love water as they can transfer heat much better, the fans on them are designed to flick water that's sitting in the tray at the bottom across the condenser (that's the back side).
Good job man, I appreciate seeing people fixing otherwise trashed appliances giving them a new life and keeping them out of the landfills, I collect and repair window air conditioners as seen on my personal channel.
that's good that you cleaned it instead of throwing it away cause those compressors are thermally protected meaning if the hot coil (outside) gets too clogged it will overload the compressor making it too hot and thermally shutting down
I got here through Leon Lush' subs list. Went trough the mancave video and now watched this. You're my kinda guy. Immediately subbed! Greetz from The Netherlands!😎😋

If you go to your local Home Depot (maybe others as well) will sell a product called AC coil cleaner. It’s an aerosol can that comes out mostly as a liquid and foams up to push the dirt out from the coil. Let it sit then rinse it out really well.
Should have used compressed air first. 😊
I agree... would make more sense
but forgive him, he has never done it before
i mentioned this on patrion and he did! he tried it then switched to water
I spent like 30min with my air compressor and a toothbrush to clean the fins on the front.
Agreed, but it's been outside for years? without being cleaned, so I guess there's a lot that's hard stuck in there. Blowing first would probably get rid of a large chunk of it, though, if not just the fresh dust.
I know you always have a lot going on, but these vids are the best. Take care
What?! I remember watching you install this. It's been FOUR YEARS?
I do this to my air cons at the end of every summer, I have an Amana AC that is now 29 years old and still runs great.
Removing the fan shroud and fan makes it easier to reach the condenser fins, which you can then clean with a soft brush mild soap and then rinse all the crap out of it. Good job none the less.
OI! Where are your videos? The last one was 2 years ago! Hope everything is ok?
Things didn’t go according to plan, I mostly live stream now but that is going to change next month hopefully.
As long as the frost cleared up and she is blowing you hard (you wish, lulz), I mean cold air.
yo barn. that gtx voice demo was lit
Thank you, I quite enjoyed making it.
I love this video so much! Mrs Barnacules needs to be on these more.... great video
But what he doesn't want us to know is that he DIED fixing it and this is his clone enjoying the fruites of his labor, truefacts.
This is one of the most entertaining videos out on how clean Window unit 😂😂 thank you my man i feel alot more confident doing so now i dont really want spend $500
*Professional TIP* . They have pro made AC Cleaner at your local Home Depot/Lowes! It's Amazing just let it rest on the mold, mildew and it will rise it up like nothing then just clean it off!
Because of your old video, I bought the same unit and installed it tonight. Now I know how to clean it for years from now when it is completely messed up. Or since my house is single story, maybe I was it once a year. Btw. I love that your makeshift wooden blocks are still holding the unit in place!
"It's not awkward, just heavy"
this was cool content, you should do more vlog stuff like this lol, had a laugh and went along for the ride. keep them videos comin!
P.S.
nice to have ya back, i get excited seeing you posting these videos again.
It’s good to be back 🙏
Hey man, what happened to this channel?
I mostly stream on Twitch during the week and here on Saturday at 11am pacific. New videos coming next month though since it’s time to bring her back.
@@Barnacules Good to hear your active and doing well. I was concerned because I used to watch your channel. Look forward to your new content my friend. 👍
I rescued one of these and all that was wrong was the fan motor was dirty! got the whole thing cleaned up and it works great! using it my 8 X 12 shed! keeps my shed nice and cool!
Sir, are you alive
Yup, stream 3x a week on Twitch and every Saturday here for #TechTalk. Just haven’t made an edit video in a while. Channel recently got hacked and now dealing with the fallout while it restored and all the dates and comments get screwed up. Nice to see you here though 🤗 Plan to start making videos again in a few weeks 👏
@@Barnacules I'm glad to hear you are getting things figured out!
@@Barnacules NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope you’re okay!!
You understand that AC is about transfer of heat. You know more than most people. I think you know more than you are letting on. Thanks for the video.
I used to enjoy jerry but without any new videos it’s not worth subbing or watching his livestream videos. He basically went from “wanting to do a review on the switch lite, but instead we got this.
It’s all good, thanks for watching while you did 👍🏻 Have a great 2023
I used to repair a lot of window ac units and cleaning them helps massively. Just buy the ac, a vacuum pump and a gauge set.
what happened to this dude?
He died… /jk 😂
Watching this reminds me how much I miss these videos....
hand truck next time :-( although come to think of it, that wind occupation might have been worth it without the hand truck.
Ironically it didn't turn her on that much to see me destroy my back hahahaha, I think next time I'll go the hand truck route like my wife suggested in the first place. I just didn't wanna go find it.
It's almost more work trying to get a dolly/hand truck upstairs with weight on it than it is just to put the thing on your shoulder
Thank you!
I guess I will Un-subscribe channel is dead
We live stream every Saturday 🙏 But if you mean edited content I totally understand, have a good one and happy new year 👋
@@Barnacules You as well thank you for the awesome videos
So glad to see you back!!!! Keep it up Barnacules!!!
Glad you are back and good to see you.
You’re a chieftain for both the DIY and the humble moments where you admit shortcomings. Well done good sir.
feel free to put it in the window wet, just dry off the plug and it should be fine, they love water as they can transfer heat much better, the fans on them are designed to flick water that's sitting in the tray at the bottom across the condenser (that's the back side).
Your content is back on point! Thanks for sharing 👍👍👍
I missed this. I treasured this adventure.
I Love that the videos are back! Keep it up!
as HVAC tech i'm glad that u did that by ur own.Bravooo!!
Good job man, I appreciate seeing people fixing otherwise trashed appliances giving them a new life and keeping them out of the landfills, I collect and repair window air conditioners as seen on my personal channel.
Mission Accomplished ! Well done Jerry!!!
that's good that you cleaned it instead of throwing it away cause those compressors are thermally protected meaning if the hot coil (outside) gets too clogged it will overload the compressor making it too hot and thermally shutting down
Yeah, if I don’t clean it every 6 months or so it won’t cycle right.
Man, I'm sure glad that these videos are back. I've missed this.
Surprisingly competent…. Nicely done!
Glad to see you back at it and in good spirits, man! I miss your DIYGasms and your regular nerd content! Stay positive, my friend!
That was both educational and hilarious. Good job.
Great video. I'm going to open the case of my LG window a/c to see if it need cleaning. Hopefully that's all it needs. Thanks Barnacules.
You are the best youtuber ever! Really i really like you and your videos. A big hug to you and your family!!!
I got here through Leon Lush' subs list. Went trough the mancave video and now watched this. You're my kinda guy. Immediately subbed! Greetz from The Netherlands!😎😋
Keep them coming Jerry.... It's good to see you back at full speed!
Nice to see your uploading again!
I'm a HVAC/R tech and it made me cringe when you called the condenser coil a radiator. haha. But definitely give you 2 thumbs up for pulling that out and cleaning it out. You wouldn't believe how many people trash AC units and refrigerators due to a simple problem like that.
