This is truly awesome. Spent a lot of time seeing if anyone could repair my window GE unit, just to have folks tell me it’s not worth it to fix the “cheap units”. As someone who’s tight on money and wasn’t willing to throw $400 in the garbage this tutorial has been a lifesaver. Thank you!!!!

Jay your video is FANTASTIC! I watched your video this hot and humid morning after my A/C stopped working overnight. I could hear what I believe was the compressor but the fan was not working. I took my 12,000 BTU Friedrich air conditioner apart carefully following your instructions, brushed, hosed (inside and out) and straightened a few bent coils and this afternoon it is working again!!!! I think the hardest part was lifting the A/C out the window to the yard and back into the window by myself. Your video and teaching style are thorough and empowered me to believe that I could fix something that I knew absolutely nothing about. You really helped save the day! Thank you so much!
I just took out the filter for the first time in YEARS. This window unit was used and I’m not sure how long it was since it was cleaned before I got it but I’ve had it for 7-8 years. It was WAY over due and never knew there was any filter in these. Now I just put the filter back in all clean and WOW what a difference in how it runs and it’s colder too. Thank you so much Jay for making this video!!!!
We are rapidly losing the fixing skills that dad used to teach us. I'm an older female, my dad was a brilliant judge, but could not hang a picture on a wall, LOL. A complete klutz. I can fix almost anything but car guts. Engineers mind.
Re: "I've heard that making sounds makes it easier on your body". (I'm a nurse) Answer: when you bear down with effort and hold your breath you trigger a "vegal reflex", when you breath out through the effort it prevents this (making sounds is a good way to prevent you automatically holding your breath). In a young healthy person the vagel reflects might just lower your blood pressure and heart rate for up to 10 minutes, which can cause you to get lightheaded or faint. But if you have heart issues/vascular disease or are older it can even trigger a heart attack. So very good on your body to make noise or consciously make sure you're breathing out while exerting large effort. 😁 Health hack of the day.
I just cleaned my 38 year old AC as you instructed. I was going to just use a vacuum and rags but can now see that this would not have been nearly as effective. My AC not only looks much cleaner, it made a massive difference. It even sounds better. The outside fins don't feel as hot, as there is more air moving through. The inside is blowing more air as well. Thanks for the tips.
@@rm742 I did that, thanks. I clean all my regular fans and oil them usually more than once per year, so I of course cleaned the fan blades in the AC too. Correct that this is important, not just for efficiency, but balance and therefore noise too. This 38 year old AC was used hard but not for all its' life time. Where there is some rust on compressor, cap, blower motor, and a few other spots, I used a thin layer of Linseed oil. This is a drying oil, like what I use to season my cast iron cook ware(flax seed). The compressor gets warm so I wanted to use a drying oil, not one that remains wet(fire hazard). I plan to clean and add some paint to the cover, and add some new metal screws for reassembly. If I can get a new thermostat, this AC will work like new. OH I noticed that after cleaning, the compressor also does not get as warm. LOL I probably should get a new AC unit though, just because this one uses 10 amp for 6000 BTU.
And this is why I returned back to comment. After my AC blowing hot air I finally clean the filter now it’s 🧊 freezing 🥶 in my man cave. Thank you 🙏🏾 sir
I tried to clean my a/c with a steam machine, it stopped cycling off after a few seconds, but it wasn't good yet, I took out the cover, I flipped the a/c to have the outside coils upwards, I used a water bucket (mop bucket) and emptied it on the outside coil, that did give it a new life, wasn't perfect yet... i emptied 1 more bucket and then it was really good, got all its power back. I emptied two more to wash the a/c machine completely (4 total) no more vibrations, the compressor got super quiet, best a/c ever, especially since it cost me $30 canadian rubles
I watched your video last night and decided to apply the knowledge to resurrect my bedroom window AC unit. Your step by step approach gave me the confidence to do what you did. THANK YOU! My AC is now working, better than it was before, and it didn't cost me a dime. Keep up the great work. I've subscribed.
It hadn't crossed my mind that the AC filter could be clogged, but after viewing the video, I gave it a thorough cleaning. Now it's functioning superbly-much appreciated for the tip!
@--Allen-- ALWAYS check air flow first... inside AND outside.. sometimes the outside is hard to tell but if the air is VERY hot, u can confirm by putting your fingers near the fins and go back and forth and u will feel the difference... i have deep cleaned mine and had a layer of crust on the inside of the exhaust... used a plastuc putty knife to vreak it into pieces
My GE unit (5k) wasn't blowing much air even though the removable filter was cleaned daily. High dust area, so after watching this video I gathered the pluck to remove the unit and take off the shell and front fascia. There it was, an almost completely plugged front fins on the front coils. hosed the whole area off, went over the back radiator too while it was exposed and blasted out the sediment that had accumulated in the bottom pan. Put it back together and had plenty of airflow! Thanks.
Jay- I want you to know that I learned a lot from watching this video. I knew that I needed to clean the filter in my ac unit. I had no idea about cleaning the other parts. I have sent the video to my son & my fiancée. I told them both to watch the video because this is what we are going to do. You were thorough with your explanation and you didn't have a dull monotone voice. As you know, just because a person knows how to do, doesn't mean that they can explain it to others in an engaging interesting way. You were great; THANKS 🤗
Thanks for the video. I was getting geared up to add freon to my big window unit. However, I noticed that there was no hot air blowing out of the back. In fact, I noticed that there was no air at all coming across the condenser coils. I slid it out of it's case and brought it outside. Upon inspection, I noticed that the fins for the condenser coils were completely clogged. Took off the fan shroud and cleaned them thoroughly. Works like new now. Thanks for inspiring me to take it out.
Thank you so very much for your help. I live in an apartment and cannot do what you do but I was able to take off the front of the machine and vacuum the dirt. It made such a difference. It looks like another hot summer. Stay cool everyone!
Normally you wouldn't want to turn the compressor on it's side to prevent oil migration but if you leave it off and upright for several hours it might be ok. Thanks for the educational videos.
@@WordofAdviceTV In my case, my LG window air conditioner (which looks almost just like yours), was working fine until yesterday. It cooled my small bedroom very quickly right up until yesterday when, all of a sudden, it stopped cooling. At 1st I thought the compressor was not kicking in, just the fan working at low medium or high as usual, but after turning it off for 3 minutes and then turning it on in cool mode, with the temperature set at it's lowest (60), when I first turn it on, the compressor does kick in, but rather mildly, and it just barely cools a little. It actually helps to turn it off a short while because it seems the compressor doesn't stay on, or keep coming on, even though we're experiencing one heat wave after another, and the outdoor temperature low of the day doesn't even go below 80°. Therefore, it seems I may get more cooling after the initial start up at 60, to raise the temp to 81 or 82, after a while, so it will automatically turn off the compressor for at least 3 minutes, then cycle it back on after the temp crawls above 82. It's extremely, uncomfortably hot & humid lately & I'm sufferring in the heat. An inner voice had been telling me I needed to vacuum & clean the air conditioner & filter for the last week, but I had not done so yet as of yesterday, when it stopped cooling. I have now washed the filter & partially vacuumed and washed with a rag, the inside part of the in place, air conditioner, but still, only the fan is working fine. If it was just dust, I'd think it would cool less & less, but it cooled very well until yesterday when the cooling compressor only lightly kicked in. The cooling compressor has not improved after cleaning, so I was wondering if the excess dust that had accumulated before I vacuumed & cleaned the filter and inner fins, may have made it run hot and tripped an internal circuit breaker or burned up an easily replaceable, inexpensive part? The cord plug in, is a circuit breaker which I tested and reset. The air conditioner fan has continued to work fine, so I hope there is a circuit breaker or fuse inside the air conditioner that's just for the compressor, but haven't been able to see any indication of one, so far. Do you know if there's a fuse inside the air conditioner that can blow and cause the air conditioning compressor to not kick in, except for very lightly? Thanks in advance for any advice!!!😀
Glad this worked for me. I started freak out a bit because my unit quit cooling halfway through the day while working. I was worried for my pets as the temps climbed to 94 inside. After I got off work I took a hose inside flushed out on the inside then outside. Waited an hour to let it dry and turned it on and it once again started to cool my room. Saved me a lot of money as my window unit is actually a really big unit that also heats my room in the winter. Spent almost a grand on it years ago and was not ready to have to replace it. Video just saved my pets and my bank account.
I knew my ac unit wasn’t working as well as it used to but I thought I was going to have to buy recharge equipment in order to get it working properly. After I watched your video I cleaned the main filter in my tub/shower put it back and turned the unit back on. Wow what a difference. Thank you so much for your help. Fantastic video!!!
who is going to go through all of that work? Take it from the window, carry it outside, take it apart and clean it (hard work) it's easier to buy a brand new one, but as I can see that you are cheap, you won't even buy a nozzle for your hose. JUST KIDDING BROTHER!..That is so good to know, I had no idea you can do this with a window unit, and I believe 99 out of 100 homeowners didn't either. Probably purchased a new unit. You never cease to amaze me. God Bless you and your family, especially the camera woman lol.
Haha that was a fun comment :) Glad I could show you something useful, thanks for watching and commenting as usual! Ah yes, I am grateful for my wife enduring all these filming sessions.. May God bless you and family as well! Stay cool!
I just want to come here and say I was hesitant at first if this would work but I did it, and my air conditioner is like NEW! blasts out 60f ice cold air and this just saved me $600 vs buying a new one. Thank you!!
Pulled the filter on mine and vacuumed the front. Filter wasn't that dirty but bottom of front cooling fins is pulling the vacuum down indicating blocked air flow. Working for now without frosting up. Probably take it out of the window and clean it right tomorrow morning when it's cooler. Lol
Saved my life brother. Don't know why I didn't consider taking the filter out again. Unit blasted 50x more cold air out as soon as I removed the massive layer of dust. Cheers
Thank you. I felt overwhelmed and assumed it would be super complicated. And while it’s a bit much… your user friendly, step by step guide gives me confidence.
I just tried this yesterday. A/c was taking long to cool room. When I opened it up, was surprised to see so much debris accumulated on outside condenser. after cleaning outside and inside fins, my A/c working normal again. Tnx man. This video was helpful.
I live in the loft room of a house (separated from central air), and I need a powerful AC unit to keep my room cold, especially now in the Summer. This content has saved me, thank you!
I hope they continues to do so. I pick these up on the ad pages for free take em gone and clean em out real good if the work again I sell on the same pages for tidy profit.
Thank you; I have a unit similar to yours and I have been cleaning it in the front and the screen. Now I know how to clean the rest with confidence. Thanks, again.
WOW!!! This is VERY instructive! I could not understand how so much of the unit keeps exposed to the elements with little to no drainage… Now I understand, and I'm ready to clean it up confidently when needed. I do agree with Randall Warner that this is one of the most useful "How to" RUclips videos I have ever seen and it deserves a RUclips award. Thank you so much! :-)
Thank you my brother. Very informative, very insightful. And I think a lot of people wouldn't even realize how valuable this information is until they're roasting in their living rooms. Thanks again!
Hello Jay I've got the same AC Window conditioner and now I can clean it back to running right, it would run maybe 20 minute's and trip off, now thanks to you, I can fix ! My LG IS 8,000 BTU.
Was ready to pitch old one and even ordered new one. I completely opened unit and found coils to be completely covered with crude on backside where I could not see it. Hosed everything off being careful to not wet down electronics and now works like new!! When new one gets delivered I can have them put it right in the back of my van so I can return it to Home Depot:)) Thank you.
Man this is exactly what I need. My wife and I are thinking of buying another unto for her sewing room. The one there now, 4 years, has been blowing hot air for the last month. But I will first, clean it like you just perfectly showed here. Will do this this weekend so wish me luck.
another thing I like to do even though the fan bearings are sealed is put a few drops of light machine oil on the fan shaft, right where it goes into the motor. This actually helped free up a fan that was spinning very slow after it was in use for awhile as the motor heated up.
I've never had any luck doing that but it's certainly not going to hurt anything and is worth a try if the motor is loud or draggy, or just as preventative maintenance if you want to. My neighbor just gave me a free AC unit with a slightly noisy fan motor and I tried oiling it and it made no difference, I don't think the oil went in since its sealed. Oh well, it's not loud and a little noise still beats the heck out of being hot any day!
Great suggestion Kkovler!! Thank you! I would also tip the unit forward a little while doing this so that the oil is running down the shaft into the motor. Doesn't always work if the fan motor is already seizing up as Avery stated but it's definitely worth giving it a try
Most of the motors use a felt wicking method to both store and apply oil to the brass bushing and shaft. Once this dries up, the motor starts squealing and/or slows down. If you tilt the motor and manually spin it slowly, you will notice that the oil that you apply to the motor shaft, slowly disappears into the motor. This continues until the felt material is back to being drenched with oil once again. I did this to my air conditioner motor when it hit being 16 years old and was squealing. Fortunately the motor shafts were exposed at both ends since the motor drives two separate fans, thus I could oil the felt located at both of the brass bushings. After that, all was new again.
@@averyalexander2303 if it's a sealed bearing you can pry out the plastic cover and clean out the grease and add new grease, just use a pick or something really sharp. if you can replace the bearing that would work too
Your comment might save me from replacing the motor bushing, as mine started squealing and then the fan froze up. I hope I remember to come back and post the results. Thank you for mentioning that drop of oil.
I am experienced with the costs of time and money via my pursuit of diy and handyman and thank you for your efforts. I have two things to say. The first is that it runs long for me watching the cleaning process beyond just communicating how a step is done (I’ve heard that length of videos is related to RUclips payback so I won’t press that. Whatever the reason, I’m 74 so sensitive to any time wasting I choose to invest). My second point is that in the intro you predicted looking into what can be wrong and can be done to remedy a cooler that isn’t cooling, but the only issue tackled was dirt blocking airways. I have a cooler that isn’t cooling that was filthy and I thought sure a thorough cleaning would fix it. It did not. Anyway, I was expecting further causes to be reviewed. I’ll keep looking. All my best to you. Pass on your knowledge whenever you can. A time is coming when something brand new may be very rare and or expensive (as it should be).
I appreciate your feedback! Thank you. I will try harder to deliver on the claims I make in my videos. I am actually making a video on exactly this right now. I am still editing it but plan to post the video this Friday or Sunday. A common reason why a window air conditioner does not turn on is a bad capacitor - that's what I go over in the video.
I clean my fans and store them in the basement every fall. Now, I'm going to do this with all of my window units!! I knew about cleaning the filter, but not the rest. This is awesome!
You are truly amazing with your details verbally and visually. As a woman I appreciate you providing the details that some people just assume everyone already knows. You also make it interesting, just with things you interject...grunting....we can all relate. Thank you, keep doing these for us!
most people dont see it but most times behind the fan on the back condensor there is a mat of gunk built up on the back coil and it takes alot of spraying to get that cleaned off
Oh, yeah my parents have one of these in their tiny home. It works so good! Gets cold. I think they had trouble with the original one and had to get it replaced and said that was a headache but when they work, they really work!
Once I got the air conditioner open up and the sides off I found a snowman sleeping inside I simply woke him up and gave him an Eskimo Pie everything works great again! THANKS! ☃️🌬🛌
I just found this today & wow I didn't think this was possible & this is new to me..I want to say I tried these techniques and this saved me a lot of money. I want to say thank you
Thank you for taking the time to make such a helpful video on how to clean a window A/C unit. 🤝 Before watching your video, I had already cleaned the front air filter. Now, I'm going to remove the A/C front the window, take it apart, and clean the dirty parts. KREP UP THE OUTSTANDING WORK!👍👍
Excellent video, easy to follow too. My unit is exactly the one you're showing here, and LG8000, so that's great for me too! My father used to take care of these things but he's no longer with us so I'll try LOL. With your video I feel a lot more confident to even attempt it! I don't think I need to take my apart as far as you did - the only reason I need to look into it is because the "clean filter" light on the panel is lit (which I didn't notice until today!), it's only been used a few summers. Thanks so much for sharing your experience, it will be very helpful for sure!
Think I have same LG model very very very quiet running, also wi-fi comparable so when not running all day while at work can turn it on from LG APP and start cooling the house while driving home
Great video, just got a 10k BTU unit with remote for $10 at a yard sale and followed up on this video and MAAAN is it blowing penguins in my garage now in this 110° heat index😂🙏🏼
Started my old AC 8 years later and it stank up the whole room, watched this video to open and thoroughly clean it then close it up, easy to follow guide. Waiting for it to dry and hopefully itll work better than before, there was a lot of dirt buildup inside. Thanks for this helpful video :D
Something to keep in mind when working around those 'radiators'... the fins on those things are SHARP and they will take a layer or two of skin right off your hands if you are not careful. They are also easy to bend up if you get to enthusiastic with the hose or a brush.
Can I dry dust those sharp things gently with a toothbrush (& then maybe some canned air or spray water?) I can’t remove the unit from the wall...it will have to be done gently from inside & then hose the outside.
@@georgiegunn9577 On the outside coils, some water running through the fins while yous scrub (gently) with a brush should work, though I would recommend something like a scrub brush, something plastic with a handle and nylon bristles. Those bristles should be a bit longer than those of a toothbrush. On the inside, you probably don't want to run water through those if you cannot remove the unit. If you have a vacuum cleaner with a hose and a bristle attachment, I feel that would be a better approach. GENTLY being the operative word in both cases. Once again, I strongly recommend gloves. As I said above, those fins are very sharp and will lay you open very easily. They are also very easy to squash together or otherwise damage.
Thanks! Yeah, a vacuum sounds great, but I don’t have one (which is why I thought maybe a soft bristled toothbrush.) ...& outdoors, I won’t have access to scrub any of the inner coils as it will still be in its casing since it will still be in the wall. But as water goes in there when it rains, perhaps s little hose down could listen any leaves or dust.🤷♀️ Works great when it’s coo...lmao...not so much when it’s 100 degrees...🤣😥
@@georgiegunn9577 Georgie, I hope it works out for you. Perhaps you could borrow a friend's or neighbor's vacuum or better yet, a shop-vac with a nice long hose.
Fantastic video. You taught me everything I need to know how to do to improve how my A/C works and, even better, I have the same brand and model so I couldn't screw this up if I tried. Plus, you saved me over $150!!!
I do this every other year in the northeast, I have a raised Ranch 2000 Sqft and a window Unit that pushes 20,000 BTU or just under 2 ton of air running on 230V that cools the entire home. My unit is 25 years old, preventive maintenance is EVERYTHING in keeping old things running like new. If the Military taught me one thing it's take care of your equipment because it will take care of you when you need it the most. Most people that live in the Northeast understand how important a AC Unit is... sure we see temps in the winter of way below 0 F. but what they don't say is in the summer we also see temps well over 90 F with over 90% humidity, Florida thinks they have a humid problem come live in the Northeast, the only difference is we don't have to deal with it as long....thank God. I'd rather live in Arizona or Nevada with no air than deal with this FU*%&ing humidity.....yeah 105F with 27% humidity, I'll take that any day over 85 F with 89% humidity
I’m a retired hyacinth guy. This is a very good video! 90% of all room ACs that don’t seem to cool just need a good cleaning. However, never ever turn that ac in its side or in any position other than the way it sits in your window. If tipped on its side or on its end, the oil in the compressor can move out of it. This may cause the compressor to seize up from lack of oil.
I have an associates degree in hvac. I was always taught to wash filters or evaporator coils/ condenser coils from the inside out. This way is doesn't push the dirt in wards. That said this can be hard to do on a window unit.
you are correct young one, but that is for industrial or central units, not window vibrators, How much experience do you have in the Field ? besides the entry level junior course ?
Today June 8 2023, the air quality is at 185 due to the Canada wildfires, the worst in the entire world right now. Me, a student who is working an ok job that gets the bills paid was not in the current position to by a new air conditioner. The air conditioner stored in the closet sucked so bad last summer that we had to put a fan in front of it. I saw your video yesterday and I’ve just now finished dissembling and cleaning it per your instructions. I didn’t/couldn’t really rinse it out but I used my wet/dry vac a toothbrush and a kabob skewer to remove all the chunks of rust. The vacuum was helpful when using the blow setting to get into those crevices. Since I didn’t soak it and just used damp rags I was able to put the AC up as soon as I reassembled. I am sitting here now with a powerful Newly cleaned AC and a new skill I can offer my friends and family. I have 3 dogs and we all thank you very much hands down the most useful video I’ve ever come across
When turning a window air conditioner on its side and upside down and stuff like that before you plug it in to use it you should put it back in its original position and let it sit for a while to the freon levels off inside. Just like a refrigerator if you transport it land on its back that refrigerator needs to stand in its upright position for quite a while for thatIt's free on to little out.
Wow i didnt even know an A/C had a filter ..now i do and cleaned both out just ran water on the filter dirt came right off easy as pie literally wow thanks so much
My window unit is a Fridigaire at 15000 BTU it weighs in at 115 pounds and it sits in a window sleeve that's about 6 feet off the ground. Removing this thing is not an option. Any ideas on how to clean the fins?
Or you could get free window a/c from remodeling projects. I got myself a brand new used one and its nice and cold in 2023 during this 100° F weather. 👍
First useful video I've found. Thank you. Basically just wanted to confirm what I already suspected being an HVAC cleaning technician. Never done window units but it does make sense. I see you're a no BS guy so I'll go ahead and subscribe. Thanks again!
I have a window A/C unit installed in the wall of my shop, it is not easy to remove. What I did that helps a lot is I put the sticky one-side velcro (hook part) around the intake grill of the unit and stuck on a piece of polyester quilt material over the grill. This is a very good pre-filter, it will get filled with sawdust before the inner filter gets really dirty. On mine, the grill frame comes out at the top like yours and will come up and out so I can take both filters outside to hose off. I have been running it for 14 years now.
I noticed a decline in how cold my window unit gets these past couple days and the filter is clean. Never considered cleaning the actual insides ! I'll definitely be doing that tomorrow
I found that using rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle works really well for cleaning that sticky, greasy, dirt on air conditioners, ceiling fans and stovetop and stove hoods. I also spray rubbing alcohol inside my air conditioner while it's running full speed to freshen up the stale odors that accumulate on the inside.
Don’t be too surprised if you start a fire if the alcohol hits the moving fan or hot electric part. Are you diluting the alcohol or at least not using 93%. I had accidentally set a lawnmower on fire with a full tank of gas when I was 12. I spilled gas into the pull start line. As I pulled the cord to start the mower, I learned why Gasoline makes a “Spontaneous” combustion! Thank god it didn’t catch on anything else. Luckily for me, my uncle was not too far and he didn’t even rat me out.
@@analogaudiorules1724 yeeeaaahhhh, nnooooooo! 🤣 for real though if you see this comment and use this stuff make sure it's unplugged and not hot and you give it a good hour at least to dry if you just use a little 93 %. Stuff is VEERRYY flammable and you is so pure you can't see the flames in daylight and therefore very Dangerous. You will get extremely hot and wonder what is happening cause they are that invisible. 😬😬
I just cleaned it but when i screwed on the back i heard a very lousd hissing noice like a gas was released and now it will not cool.. did i hit something ? It looked like a small hole where the screw was !! Idk ugh

Haha awesome!! Thanks for coming back to leave a comment. Glad to hear you got the AC fixed, stay cool! ;)

People like you that’s the people we need, I was about to buy an other AC , but I did the cleanup to my old AC and I save some money ,thank you .
Same. I almost felt defeated. I don’t have the brawn to lift my larger one but I can clean from the window.
It worked? I did this last year to one of mine and it stopped working altogether. Thanks

Normally you wouldn't want to turn the compressor on it's side to prevent oil migration but if you leave it off and upright for several hours it might be ok. Thanks for the educational videos.
Thank you for that warning! I should have mentioned that in the video..
@@WordofAdviceTV The rule is as long as it was on it's side that's how long you leave upright before running it.
In my case my air conditioner turns on but no air comes out at all! It makes a vroom sound should I still try to clean it? Will it help?
@@jujub3382Did you try that and did it help?
Please reply with results.
another thing I like to do even though the fan bearings are sealed is put a few drops of light machine oil on the fan shaft, right where it goes into the motor.

Something to keep in mind when working around those 'radiators'... the fins on those things are SHARP and they will take a layer or two of skin right off your hands if you are not careful. They are also easy to bend up if you get to enthusiastic with the hose or a brush.
well said
Can I dry dust those sharp things gently with a toothbrush (& then maybe some canned air or spray water?)
I can’t remove the unit from the wall...it will have to be done gently from inside & then hose the outside.
@@georgiegunn9577
On the outside coils, some water running through the fins while yous scrub (gently) with a brush should work, though I would recommend something like a scrub brush, something plastic with a handle and nylon bristles.
But as water goes in there when it rains, perhaps s little hose down could listen any leaves or dust.🤷♀️
Works great when it’s coo...lmao...not so much when it’s 100 degrees...🤣😥

A-HA I hadn’t thought of cleaning the outside coils! Thank you for the inspiration!🎉
Exactly, so what do I do just vacuum?

This saved from buying a new AC! RUclips is clutch sometime

I just cleaned it but when i screwed on the back i heard a very lousd hissing noice like a gas was released and now it will not cool.. did i hit something ? It looked like a small hole where the screw was !! Idk ugh
I'm not the only one that uses a handy dandy Toothbrush🤗
But how do you clean it when you live on the 6th floor of the apt?
