I show you how I cleaned my window air conditioner AC. Yours may be different and you have to decide what are your limits for work like this. It may not work for you or your skillset. This video does not replace annual servicing by a technician and is intended for information purposes only and is NOT an exact guide due to differences with air conditioning models. ALWAYS ensure the power is OFF when working on the air conditioner.

Just put in my A/C’s yesterday here in Jersey. I used this video as a guide to clean one unit that I was thinking about replacing. You sir, just saved me about $300. The unit was barely cooling a small room and now it’s freezing in there. Thank you for your videos, they are entertaining and extremely informative.
I moved out here last year and this weather is BOOF it’s either freezing or hotter than satans bootyhole… I’m convinced anyone from jersey who enjoys living there is the spawn of Satan himself

I was about to throw my very old AC away. I thought it had something to do with the Freon. Glad I checked out RUclips first. I took the frame off the AC and pressured washed it out completely. waited a few hours for it to dry out, put the frame back on, stuck it in the window and it works like new. Thanks for the DIY Fix.
Mine makes a grindy noise when I turn it on. I think it's the bearings or whatever on the inside. Dunno how to get to it.

High pressure washing a window air conditioner is a Bad Idea, it can damage the Condenser coil and the Evaporator coil.

I have done this every year for the 3 AC units I have. I always have my kids help me. Last year, my daughters friend was over and was complaining that she was bugging her parents to get her a new AC for her bedroom because hers was barely working. With her parents permission, I took hers out and cleaned it very thoroughly and made sure she helped. It was great watching my daughter basicaly be the one to teach her what to do and why you should do it every year. She actually stopped in mid sentence and looked at me and said "OMG I sound like you!! Mom is right!!" Her friend replied "At least your dad teaches you stuff that us actually useful and you remember it." We put her AC back in and what do you know... it was blowing out nice very cold air.
Two days later I was invited over to talk to her parents and ultimately spent the next few hours showing them with them participating how to clean and maintain the other 2 AC's they have. Her dad actually thanked me for saving him a bunch of money.
Thanks for the heads up and especially For the advice on getting my 14th year old daughter to help me so she can learn how to properly clean it and maintain them!!!!!!!! Once again thanks for everything!!
I love that you made sure your daughters friend participated & helped clean “her” unit! You taught her a valuable lesson as well Good job!
Her Dad was probably thinking of replacing His wife after that🤔
He better have bought you a beer or two.
I have a question before I try cleaning my own window ac , where the mold and nasty dirt is on the bottom of the ac if their is a small water puddle does that mean anything or is my ac just full on dirty , I’ve only had mine for about 8 months now so this is why I’m asking do I need it fixed ? Or do I need it cleaned ? Because It does smell and it is blowing hot air but when I look at the ac from the outside of my window looking in I see dirt , mold / a little bit of water what do I do
Great video. I clean both my window AC's 11,000 and 12,000 BTU's just like you did in the video around every April just before the hot weather kicks in. Both my AC's are 11 years old and cool rooms as if they were brand new. Bought the AC's used for $100 each 11 years ago, getting my moneys worth. This past January I was cleaning bathroom tiles with Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Grime Fighter it worked so well in the bathroom the idea hit me to use this product for the cleaning of my AC's. When this product is sprayed it expands. I used it on the coils of the AC's, waited 5 minutes, hosed down the coils. Let me tell you, the product worked so well I got the shine back on the coils. I also used the Scrubbing Bubbles on the bottom tray of the AC, the inside and outside of the AC casing, hosed them down it worked fantastic. During the summer months when the AC's run almost around the clock I clean the filters at least once a week. Take care of the AC and it will take care of you.
Do these AC units not run out of refrigerant?
@@Utsusemi - Not unless they develop a leak.
@@Utsusemi only if they spring a leak. Same with any a/c system- home/auto. Refrigerant doesn't get used when you run it.
oh wow :o
Fantastic idea to use Scrubbing Bubbles! I'll give it a try....
I take mine apart and clean it every year after the season. That way it's all ready to go, clean as a whistle the next year.
Here is a great story. Our home AC went out Friday and by the time we got home the house was warm. We ruffed it out that night and my wife called in the morning trying to get a company out. So Saturday’s high was 90 and can not get a company to fix it until Monday. Now Sunday’s high is around 95 and the wife can’t handle it. We where going to just go buy a window unit but I remembered I had one in the basement that would not cool. I remembered this video and rewatched it. Cleaned out the unit and it is working GREAT. Thank you so much for the great videos.
That is a great story and I am so glad it helped and got you cool again and saved some cash! Please share it with anyone else you think might benefit too. Thanks for letting me know I love to here these.
as a technician another thing to point out is that the coils need to be kept straight, bending enough of them will block airflow through the unit and cause similar issues, fin comb brushes are pretty cheap alternatively you can use a flat head screwdriver and some patience, also be careful with using dish soap on the coils and inside the unit as it will corrode the copper lineset potentially leading to a leak so rinse extremely thoroughly, preferably you want to use the foaming spray linked in the pinned comment or an equivalent personally I use Nucalgon condenser coil cleaner which dries without leading a residue, but does have a habit of softening the plastic shell on my AC unit.
Thanks 👍🏼
@@NicholasPeters1 the copper pipes that's the copper lineset, the coils is what he's cleaning you got two of them the condensor (Outside) and the Evaporator (inside) that's what moves the heat since AC doesn't just blow cold air, it absorbs the heat from inside and takes it outside.
You're an angel! Straight from a Cali girl (105 this EVENING).
Is there a reason why one side would be blowing stronger then the other side but still blow cold? Is one side clogged?
@xratedsuperstar1987 I'm a tad confused what you mean.
dirty coils are a major cause of efficiency issues in AC units. both central as well as window/free standing units. Glad to see somebody took the time to put a tutorial together about how to clean these.
If you notice your home's central air starting to not do as good of a job it's a good idea to take the hose and wash off the coils on the outside condenser unit.
Thanks so much! I did this on the very old unit in my kids’ bedroom, followed your directions precisely, and now it’s chilling nicely!

your post save me a 4 year frustration...Thank you....my ac/heater unit is back to normal...!!!!!!!
Glad it helped
Just watched 10 videos on this topic. This was by far the best one....clear and concise. Thanks.
My grandpa taught me this long ago, now they have central air, I'm glad he doesn't have to deal with it anymore but I'm also happy I learned, sometimes you don't even have to take all the covers off just depends on how dirty or clogged it is.
Yup, but this coils still have to be cleaned. They are just outside now......... 😉
@@alexpearson8481 ummm actually for window units the coils are and always have outside (they hang out your window) and for central AC you still have coils outside in your condenser, yes, but also inside within the air handler (near the evaporator)...jus sayin'. 🤷🏼♂️😜
My 5 yr old Frigidaire 6000 BTU stopped cooling the bedroom well ... sorta gradually but it wasnt a big deal until the California heatwave that hit last couple days when we really noticed it wasnt doing a lot of good. Quick inspection fans were working and the filter and grills didnt look bad. Like a few other commenters I thought "I guess these newer units coolant just doesnt last that long". Glad I saw your video! I removed the unit, opened it up, cleaned everything ... the back grill was actually pretty dirty when I saw the water running off... re-installed and there is a marked improvement right away. Thanks!
When pandemic hit, we did our ac cleaning by ourselves. So satisfying to see dirt build up being washed down
After watching this video I took apart my old AC unit that wasn't blowing cool air and now it works like new! Cleaning it made a huge difference and didn't take very long!
For those who are unaware you should NOT put an AC on its side, or upside down for any length of time, if you do have to have it tipped on its side, you should allow it time for the oil to run back down to the bottom of the inside of the compressor. just saying 😘
How do you grease the bearings? Mine is making a grind noise when turned on I assume it's the bearings?
Just like an automobile.
@OneDayAfterAnother that's ridiculous. You either just remove screws and then the outer case and so on until you get to the parts you want to grease or freaking spray a bunch WD-40 in where you can reach with the attached tubes they come with, let it dry out completely and turn it on. Taking a window unit to an expert is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Quick way to get totally ripped off when you can DYI easily or just shell out $100-$200 or less for a new one! Sorry don't mean to be rude, just realistic and practical.
@OneDayAfterAnother I do hear that my friend however in cases like a window unit people should be a bit brave over spending useless money on an expert. You wouldn't take a busted microwave to be fixed these days it's just not cost effective or smart. 🤷🏼♂️
@@QueBeraBera You never use WD-40 as a lubricant in place of something that uses grease. WD-40 is a degreaser, your cleaning off the last remnants of the grease the mechanism actually requires. Ask a locksmith, the worst thing in the world is spray WD-40 in a sticky lock.
Lesson learned, I will be cleaning all my ACs before I store them away for the year in the early fall. I had a older 12000 btu unit I moved up to my attic. The thing constantly tripped my breaker when the compressor kicked on. The problem ended up being simply a super dirty ac. I took it apart, cleaned the hell out of the coils etc. bam it runs like new and solved the breaker tripping issue.
I do the same exact thing with my 4 Panasonic Window A/Cs.
They don't make them anymore and they are super quiet so I value them dearly. They look and perform like new for nearly a 25 year old appliance.
That’s awesome. The old Panasonic’s were amazing. I used to have one too
Jeffrey Caban had those growing up in parents house. My dad installed them permanently in wall. Never had to touch them for same amount of time as yours!! Now have crappy ones with styrofoam inside and get 3-5 years, if lucky 👎🏼
Agreed, the Panasonics are much quieter than others I've heard.

I just want to come here and say I was hesitant at first if this would work but I did it, and my air conditioner is like NEW! blasts out 60f ice cold air and this just saved me $600 vs buying a new one. Thank you!!
HVAC tech here lol. Good instructional video. We just use water no soap. Soap is cool though. Only things you need to clean is the coils and fans. Everything else can be dirty. Always like to see a tidy unit though :)
I have some old air conditions outside and I have cleaned up old air conditioners before and made them work. But you do have to bleach the inside where the air goes are you could have some serious mold and stuff in there. And unfortunately some of these air conditioner companies make it so you can't pull the front of it off, which is ridiculous they just want you to throw it away and buy a new one. Thanks for posting this.
Bleach doesn’t kill mold, but vinegar will
Wow very nice video I'm highly impressed I thought my AC was garbage and I only had it for a year it stopped blowing cold air and the pump would kick on and off. Then I did this and it works just like when I first bought it that is freaking amazing seriously thanks for this! Great guide
So glad its helped, its great to get something working again.
@@SilverCymbal Love your video. I'm going to do this. Dirt is our enemy.
Thanks for pointing out it turned compressor on and off hopefully that's my problem and it doesn't need freon. it did blow dust out when I first turned it on so hopefully this is it!
@@alexmoreno2953what happened did it work for you? My compressor keeps kicking on and off
I did this last year to my 2 window units and after i let it airdry fully for 2 weeks in my basement without putting the exterior cover and filter on. Then i put the cover, screwed everything back in place , turned it on to make sure it worked for a minute and stored back in its box for the winter. In the late spring we put them in the windows and no nasty mold smell like we'd usually get. Now i'm ready to do it again this year and came back for a refresh. Will do this def. every year.
I like Formula 409 for this sort of cleaning job. I learned about cleaning window units from an A/C contractor about 30 years ago, and he preferred F409. He said it does a better job of dissolving grime than dish soap or other products he tried.
any degreaser will be just fine ...such as dish or laundry soap
I subscribed just to tell you this really worked. Had an old Fedders unit blowing warm air. Cleaned it up on the back patio using your video. Blows cold now and keeps the room comfortable, Thanks.
Awesome! I have a window unit and had no idea you could clean it so easily! Thank you
My conditioner is now 19 1/2 years old, but is working as good as new. The motor did eventually end up squealing at one point at high volume. This was due to the oil having dried up completely at the bearing felt pad locations. With a little patience and a little know how, I figured out how to re-oil the felt pads, even though it was a fully closed and sealed motor. That brought the motor back to having a quiet life. Other than that, the front plastic panel had turned yellowish over the years, so I de-yellowed that by using ICE CREAM. ICE CREAM is a women's hair bleach that contains 12% Hydrogen Peroxide. So, by taking care of what you own, you cut costs down significantly, just as is the case of my stainless steel microwave oven. It is now 18 years old, but it basically looks a good as the day I bought it. I have had to replace a door micro-switch a coupe of times, and replace the main fuse and a thermal fuse, but I simply obtained those parts from someone else's oven that they had tossed onto the curb for disposal. I also repaired the turntable motor when it stopped working. A few drops of glue was all it needed. So overall, the total repair cost over those 18 years, was $1.49. So that's roughly 8 cents a year. The oven itself was a store show model, so it only cost me $45. That amounts to $2.50 per year for 18 years. LOL
What you’re looking at with debris is a lack of heat transfer, this ac is a heat pump, meaning it removes heat from a space. If there is low airflow there will not be a heat transfer the coils are the only important objects to keep clean
@Darin P Except he's not really wrong though. AC units are a heat pump, they're just one-directional. A standard AC unit is just creating (and hopefully maintaining) a simple "cold" to "hot" temperature gradient. This is accomplished by pumping a refrigerant through a condenser coil and an evaporator coil (and some specialized valves) using a compressor, not some "dehumidifying process". The refrigerant undergoes a phase change at each coil. Liquid to gas (e.g. evaporation) at the evaporator coil, and gas to liquid (e.g. condensation) at the condenser coil. Evaporation is endothermic and condensation is exothermic. Heat is drawn into the refrigerant when it evaporates at the evap coil, and released from the refrigerant when it condenses at the condenser coil. AC units are arranged in such a way that air from in the home is blown around the evap coil and back into the home, while air from outside the home is blown around the condenser coil and expelled outside. So, an AC unit quite literally pumps heat from inside the home to outside the home. Dirt, dust, grime, and other debris slow down heat transfer between the coils and surrounding air and limit air flow rates from around those coils in the case, which is essentially what Brandon said.
Wow!!! I threw 3 AC's out!! Never have I ever done this! I'll be doing it from now on. Thank you for sharing!
I always take my window unit A/C to the car wash and spay it down really good with the high pressure soapy wash before I install it and after I take it out. I have one A/C thats 21 years old and still work great

Dont forget....you tipped the compressor....let it sit 4 hours after reinstalled to let the refrigerant to settle back in the unit....very important...
Who told you that
Yes very important
Im an hvac tech for 25 years...thats how i know 👍👍👍👍👍😄😄😄😄
@@warbird101210 yes. Never never do that.
It's not the refrigerant that has to settle you let it sit upright in case any oil ran into the lines or it will cause a restriction
I cleaned my window AC unit a few weeks ago, after watching this video, and it now blows enough cold air that I have to periodically turn it off or it simply gets too cold in my room.
BTW, I have an air compressor, so I just used compressed air to clean it all up. No soap nor water. But yeah, cleaning it, however you want to, will give it new life!
Wish you were here Saturday helping my husband with our two units (took foreva 🙄) wish we could use this but ours have styrofoam inside.....would have to air dry for days! Definitely used the Dawn dish soap, though
you can use a hair dryer to dry it out in about 5-10 minutes depending how much moisture.
Use a leaf blower...lol extremely affective extremely fast
That worked wonderfully it took me 45 minutes my unit is blowing freezing cold air again thank you so much for this video 🤘✌️👍
I did this with mine last year. It’s surprising how much dirt and debris builds up. After washing I also used a blower to push out any water and stuck debris. I let it air dry in the sun for a while.
Did work fine?
Just cleaned my unit. Sadly I didn’t have hard plastic vents but styrofoam and that too was extremely dirty. But I did carefully removed them without breaking them and cleaned them. Just waiting for it to dry. I’ll give you an update later today
*Update * well I am amazed that it worked. Haven’t felt cool air in awhile now. Almost considered buying a new one. But your method of cleaning it. I am a believer. Thank you 🙏 so much, this help out greatly
Ramiro Moreno yes I did spray it with a water hose. But I did place a plastic bag over the control panel as a added protection. I’m more amazed that it did work. It’s been reaching temps of 100 in my area and the room is a cool 75. Well lower now ever since I blocked the sunlight from my room, lol I sound like a vampire. But try it!
Oh just be careful with the foam, I had to take mine apart because of how dirty everything was. But glad I did though
It would have been so much better if Air conditioner were designed in a way they could be cleaned easily .
quick tips: clean ftont filter and back of unit 1-2 per yr, depending on usage. This negates having to remove unit and disassemble. For back cleaning, spray garden hose at a 45 degree , not directly head on. These two methods will remove 90 % or more of dust/dirt and unit will
operate as itvshould. Been doing this for 20+ yrs. Great method for those that live on 2-3 FL , or those with larger units.
Yeah but then we won't be forced to buy a new one.
Just seen this ! My AC unit is 1 year old but blows a molding smell I never knew you could give it a through cleaning like this. I'm definitely cleaning it this weekend ! Thanks for posting this video
I have the same smell of mold in my ac, from my ac when my ac is on or when my ac is on (noticed the mold smell over 2-3 years ago (if I remember correctly), wanted to clean out the ac's but didn't bother). Have you see anything or tried anything to clean out the mold (if there was any)? My ac has a styrofoam looking piece around a fan part of the ac and it has mold on it. I can try to scrub it out gently but I'm afraid it may destroy that styrofoam looking thing. I'm not sure if the styrofoam looking thing is insulation or what.
I did this with bleach and garden hose because mine had a smell to it. Results were great! I never thought to clean out the coils and fins for better operation. Looks like I’ll be opening it up again. Thanks for the info!
Never use bleach. It's very corrosive

Thank you so much 😊
been doing this for over 40 yrs......works like a charm
I do the same for mine when it gets dirty. I cleaned mine with a cleaner that kills mold and mildew , because my window unit will build up mold and mildew , and produces a bad smell . I cleaned the unit real good in the early spring before it starts getting hot . It runs like new , no smell , and it gets really cold . I also built a awning over my window unit to help protect it from the elements. I have a lot of trees around my house , things will fall out of the trees on to the unit , and will get in side of it and make it nasty . I just built the awning so far I have not seen anything on or in side the unit . I believe the awning will benefit me for years to come .
I have a question before I try cleaning my own window ac , where the mold and nasty dirt is on the bottom of the ac if their is a small water puddle does that mean anything or is my ac just full on dirty , I’ve only had mine for about 8 months now so this is why I’m asking do I need it fixed ? which cleaner did you use to clean the mold and mildew out--also how is it safe to use the mold and mildew cleaner in the air conditioner or when cleaning the air conditioner?
@@NicholasPeters1 I used a cleaner called spray nine , and it works really well and it is safe to use . It kills the mold and mildew , and it has a degreaser in it , so it cleans the unit good .
@@SilentBlunts I would just try cleaning the unit . If you can get it out of your window , try to spray it out with a water hose and use a spray cleaner that will kill mold and mildew , and has a degreaser in it . If you have trees around and hanging over your unit , stuff can fall out of the trees in to your unit and get nasty inside of it. And your unit should have a drain hole so it can drain water out of it properly. The hole can get stopped up with debris and not drain. You will have to clean it out so the water can drain out like it is supposed to. After cleaning the unit , and it is still blowing hot air , it may need to be fixed or replaced .
This helps so much. I know 3 window units that need a BATH! Ughh breathing in that filthe can easily make a person SICK. Very unhealthy. I didn’t know until TODAY an a/c could be washed. Sincere thanks!

Very helpful video 👍. You have potentially saved many people hundreds of dollars by sharing your knowledge.
This is gonna save me several hundred dollars. Thank you! Now to get cleaning!
I'm doing this tomorrow!! Wish me luck 😂 my unit has barely been cooling the last few days and i can see all the gunk inside it 🤮 thats probably why! Thanks for the video!! I was scared id mess it up somehow but I knew others do this so im sure it'll be fine
Never knew you could do this! Never seen this done before! Huh!
Great video. With 5 units, I do this every year. Knowing industrial maint, I go a little further and unscrew and move the condenser to get at the backside where the dust clogs the condenser. The black dots in the evap portion are dirt/mildew. Unfortunately that part is now usually surrounded by styrofoam, so be careful wiping in and around the evap fan blades. The evap part is where Legionaires can form, so disinfecting it is important...especially where anyone in the room has breathing issues to begin with. So many units get tossed when it's only a clogged condenser.
How do you disinfect it? What exactly should be disinfected, and what product should be used?
My hypothesis about my uncle's GE aircon not cooling well enough? I said to him that it needs to be cleaned. We took it out for cleaning, and hours later, the difference is noticeable. Much cooler than before cleaning.
That’s great to hear. People don’t realize these get plugged up after years of use. Definitely worth doing and keeping it going longer. Thanks for the feedback
@@SilverCymbal my unit is inside my shop. I have a apartment and shop combined. Also I use filters held by magnets over the top and side intakes. These are cleaned once a week. Plus I wipe the outside of the unit down often with a damp rag. I wrap the unit up in plastic in the winter time. I think being inside out of the sun makes the unit more efficient too. Most people don’t have that option though.
It's 104 out and this little ac took 5 minutes to install and 15 minutes to cool down my bedroom. Works great for a medium sized room.

Thank you, I personally will be using an all purpose cleaner instead of dish soap and then following with a blower before re-assembling to get all excess water out. Great video tho
I'm glad you mentioned a blower to dry it out. I was wondering how it'd all get dry good before putting back into window. Awesome idea Brandon!

Fantastic advice! Excellent video!
I'd like to add, for those who are given a used air conditioner, mabe from a smoker, a degreaser like Greased lighting will quickly remove all the stink. Use gloves! Works faster & removes the smoke residues that Dawn dish soap can't, without scrubbing.
That's so wild I have the same exact Kenmore unit it's cooling room like the day I purchased it in 1999.
Better hang on to it. They don’t make them to last as long these days. Wrap plastic around it in the winter time. Take care of it. It’s a gem.
I do this every fall with all my units including my portables. I had a Carrier from 1967 that worked over 40 years and a Kenmore for 30 years that heated as well with the compressor and coil when it got colder. They both still worked when I moved and had to leave them behind. People are afraid to spray them because of the obvious reason, electrical short. Worst case the circuit break and or GFI would trip and most newer units have a GFI on there plugs, I think it is now mandatory. I just be careful not to spray the electronics. Ether way, I do it in the Fall when the cooling season is done so the are way dried out by spring!
Easy for a small window unit, but those larges ones are a nightmare to pullout. I have one that is elevated and is nearly 300lbs.
This video never gets old.
you have to cover the fan motor with a plastic bag before you use the hose. Many ac units have the fan motor exposed and the water can ruin the motor if you dont protect it.
Omg I jus now came across this and I'm so glad I did
Me and my husband are taking our AC units outside right now and omg it was built up so bad 😭😭😭😭
Thank you for explaining the process on how to!!!!

GREAT,GREAT VIDEO AND PRESENTATION.THANK YOU.
Glad you liked it!
Great Video to clean up your air conditioner! I been having a lot of breathing problems hope this helps! Looks like a big cleaning a head but it looks like this could be the video I need to help me stop breathing all this dirty air! My unit is Midea I sure this what it needs after all the screws are off then use a hose and spray it down with soap and water! Sounds like a plan!
Can't remove mine from the window without surgery but I've used a hose and AC cleaner solution for a few years. Works fine.
I was just wondering how I could clean mine cause it's high up on the wall and I have no idea how I would get it out. I just moved in here and I'm thinking it's never been cleaned. Could you explain a little more how you clean yours without taking it out?
@@minkiegreen404 I have a ladder that lets me get closer to the AC. Mostly just nearer to it. I use a can of AC Coil Cleaner. You can buy it from most big hardware stores. It remove a lot of grime and then I blast it really well with a water hose all over. I make sure the rubber plug on the bottom lets the water drain out. When I finish I drop a few (a lot) Air Conditioner Drain Pan Tablets through the slits to help control any mold and mildew smell.
@@BusinessMan1619 I'm very new to the wall unit life. I didn't even there was tablets you can use for them. Haha. Thank you so much for your reply! I'm gonna attempt to clean it tomorrow when it's a little cooler
@@minkiegreen404 you got this and have a wonderful summer.
@@BusinessMan1619 thank you 😊 and you as well
Last year I was having issues with my air conditioner's. Especially when it was really hot . And I thought my air conditioner's were going to blow up or something. It's amazing what dawn dish detergent can do. When they were cleaned out and they were working like the day I bought them.
Love the video and I was just cleaning the screen
Dads always give you valuable advice and tips to improve your life.
And never forget to take the front cover off the cooling fan and clean the fan blades. Black and white mold grows in them
Good point you sure right about that!
During the cooling season if I stay in a motel with a window air conditioner that’s in a window or mounted though the wall I do some free maintenance for them to keep myself and my family cooler and healthier. I remove the filter if they have one (it always looks dirty and disgusting) and clean it in the sink or tub with a little warm soapy water and I rinse it. I’ll dry it off quickly by sandwiching it between towels before replacing it. When I switch the A/C on I am rewarded with cool clean air. I don’t think motels ever clean the filters so I do it for myself.
most hotels have central air lol
@@iggypopisgod9 True. Most have central air or a PTAC in the wall.
I’m talking about really inexpensive and old motels.
I clean mine every year, I take it out side and the same thing I guess, just wash it out!
Thank You! You just saved me more doe than I did with GEICO.
I just hose the condenser while it's still in the window. The evaporator I never have any real issues with but I don't lose the filter either.
Thanks
I did this an my ac still doesn't cool as much as it should. Guess I'm buying a new one. Great video.
Man i never would've thought about that thats awesome man thanks
I appreciate it thank you it makes a big difference
My central air is acting up now so im gonna watch that video from you again then do it tomorrow see if it helps
I came on here to see how I can fix my ac before summer kicks in, and found this instead. Will be putting this on my to do list tomorrow.
Now if I only could physically pick up the unit. Lol
Great video though I will just have to pay a handy man to do it.
Same issue here
Wow this is so awesome,. I had a brand new general electric window unit ,. Its didn't last almost 5- months,. The company reimburse me another one,.. the lighting fry my new one ,. The memory shot on it......
.
Should have recorded the internal temperature before you started cleaning it so we could see if it really made a difference
Man I cleaned a little my mother's a.c. unit window and you right I clean the filter, the front or grill of ac and wait like 3 hours and the a.c. star fine like new, excellent video.
Thanks for the info on the generac 2200 I noticed on my area that prices starting going up and you can't find too many gerators as matter of fact they recommend you look on line.
Easier solution! ! ! When you buy a air conditioner remove the case and hot glue aluminum window screen inside the intake vents that bring air in from outside the house. Cut to fit the openings. This prevents all the bugs, leaves and debris that gets inside and blocking air flow from dirtying it up. I live in the woods and the screens get blocked two to three times a year. All I need to do is slide the AC out of the window leaving the case in place and hose the screens clean blasting water from the inside out. This clears all the debris off. Any air conditioner that must be removed is still just as easy to hose clean. The aluminum window screen saves a lot of time cleaning and by hot gluing the screen inside and straight it looks factory installed.
Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!!
Unless you specifically set them to "vent" mode, a window AC does not bring air into the house from outside. It has two separate ducting sets - one takes in air from inside, passes it across the cold evaporator, and blows it back inside (usually the intake is the lower area, and it blows out at the top) - the outside part, takes outside air and blows it across the hot condenser to cool it down, and it just blows right back outside.
@steve…..if I read this right
standing outside at back of unit where fins are at
remove housing
apply aluminum screen to the inside of housing
when I put housing back on,the screen will be up against the fins per-say,thus a filter effect
should / could I do the same to louvered vents that are on the sides of the housing¿
Thank you
Fantastic! I love the helpful details like mentioning it will stuck together a little when you are taking it apart.
Don't soak the motor, remove before cleaning if possible
What if it isn't?
@@SlickRick4EVER get water in the fan motor it wont work..i was taught to wrap the fan motor up with a trashbag and duct tape
What your explaining is just common sense, something alot of people don't have.
Knowing the difference between your and you’re also is just common sense, something you must not have.
@@localhotti3 its not tho its english literacy not so common.
I am going to renovate lawn this fall so wish me luck.
If you try my method I know you will do great. So many nice stories here from those that did.
Wish you the best I am also doing it this fall.
@@drymoonproperties yeah my lawn isn't terrible i just have to get rid of the wild violets
Its a good video if its extremely dirty theres ez coil clean that can be used on both coils, on the evaporator (exterior) coil you can use maurtic acid cut it 10 to 1 always add the acid to the water never the other way around it can react and explode out of the container. It will get the really heavy stuff on the interior of it its the hardest part to clean properly.
How long do you let the ac dry for before plugging it back in?
Just did mine last night i let it dry for an hour
It's going to be 100 plus this week in Denver. My bedroom unit bows hot air. I will try this and let you know
I guess I'm gonna have to redo all my air proofing tape lol
🤣🤣🤣
Lol. 🤣😂

Wow! What a difference. I have to share this with my sister. Thank you for sharing!!
That's some pretty green solution... What kind of dish soap are you using that looks that green only using a table spoon?
Dawn.
Our living room AC works but I bet it's filthy. Thanks for the video!
What about cleaning the inside of the cold air handling ducting and fan? I always get a buildup of mold on the inside of the ducting. Especially if the ducting is made with molded styrofoam material. It is impossible to get it totally clean just by trying the reach through the outlet grill. Thanks
Did you ever find out how to deal with the issues you mentioned above? Also I am not sure if I have the same styrofoam material in mine as you (it seem so but I don't know s*it about being handy).
