  • We test the 2019 Yamaha Tracer 900 GT at BikeReview.com.au, and despite some issues with the suspension find the same core machine that has made the Tracer 900 such a winner, with a host of extras to justify that GT tag and premium.
On the Tracer 900 GT the sports-touring aspect is taken to a new level with the inclusion of standard fitment 20L hard panniers in matt black, cruise control, heated grips, a quick shifter, fully adjustable forks, an higher spec rear shock with external preload adjuster and a TFT display. Oh and the
‘Midnight Black’ colour scheme which pays a bit of homage to the various SP model colour-schemes in its own way, with blue highlights and silver feature panels on the Midnight Black.
On paper it’s a well spec’d machine ready to take it to the standard Tracer 900, but the price is also $18,199 RRP + ORC in Australia, which adds a further $1200 premium on to the 2018 GT premium of $1500 for a total of $2700.

You showed us a zoom on the adjustable BRAKE lever. Keep in mind that the clutch lever is NOT ADJUSTIBLE. You have to replace it if you want to adjust it. I found it difficult to gently let go of the clutch with my small hand.

Took me 20 minutes to get the suspensions sorted.... KYB forks are way better than the standard setup.... not sure how you didn't manage it in a week!

GSLC owner, I test rode the GT and found it vibey through the bars somewhat, could be a deal-breaker, between Honda AT. BTW the GS is too expensive now, great bikes but expensive

Nice review, mate. Thanks! Just one thing that is ready for improvement: keep your hands of the steering bar. You spent the intro of the bike wobbling the steer / front wheel. It drove me mad....

A question Ive rarely seen anybody address, if you remove the saddle bags, like in the standard model of the Tracer, is there a secure under seat storage compartment large enough for things like cell phone, wallet, watch etc. when you go someplace like a pool the beach or a lake where you're going to get into the water you need a secure storage compartment for small valuables.

Rear seat has just enough room for paperwork and maybe a cell and keys but it clearly wasnt designed to be a trunk at all.

Headlights adjuster is for left and right not up and down

Agree. Whenever I have looked at a used bike for potential purpose, the degree to which the chain is properly adjusted and lubed is the single most tell-tale sign of how well the bike has been cared for. If the chain is right, the rest of the bike will be too.

Yamaha puts a poor quality chain on the new bike, best replace it immediately with the 530 D.I.D.. The bike is brilliant otherwise!

I have the standard tracer 900 in the grey that color sceem on the gt is horrible the blue purple rims are terrible looking I installed the quick shifter and heated grips on my standard model and adjusted my suspension that tft screen is so small and terrible to see on the gt. its a no brainer in the looks department the standard with the grey and white looks sweet the only thing you really loose is the cruise control but to get the gt for that and have a horrible looking bike is not enough I live in the us and the gt doesn't come in the grey I am happy I chose the grey model and just added what I wanted for the extra money for the gt is not worth it.

I bought the GT for my wife and she absolutely loves it, the dash is fantastic and just like the R1M so I’m not sure why you don’t like it? The quick shifter is great, the cruise control is fantastic, hand guards & heated grips work very well together and I like the way the screen works compared to my 2019 KTM 1290 GT. The colour is same as the SP and the panniers work very well. I had the suspension done by a professional and it’s so good. All in all it’s a top bike 👌

@@22995555 In Japan and Euope they got the grey/red mixed and Australia got the gutless colour, they lost me

MARKINAU8 I’m not really sure what you mean by “gutless colour” as it looks great in the black with blue accents and it you haven’t seen it the flesh then it’s hard to tell. I personally find grey a very bland colour and I’m not a fan of red so it all comes down to personal taste and as long as you like it then that’s what really counts. Great bike and keeps up well with my 2019 KTM 1290 GT.

Jim Coleman I’m just curious have you ever rode this bike? I sat on one and immediately turned my nose at it because the seat was like a rock. But I haven’t seen anyone else complaining about the seat. I like the bike a lot but that seat just turned me away.
