I waited two years for this bike to arrive, bought the Raven Black for me it's the best-looking one. Regarding all the negative comments, for the price show me something better, It's light, fast, great touring, & lots of extras that are standard. David newman if you need an electric screen buy a car. You didn't mention that the suspension is fully adjustable, that alone is a 1000 euro upgrade. Some guy mentioned the side panniers didn't take a full face helmet, this bike is for riding not for storing helmets. fill the panniers with camping gear & do what it's designed for. It gives me a big smile every time I ride this bike, hello, isn't that what it's all about. The slight vibration on the pegs reminds me that I'm on a motorbike. Best regards, Frank.
Frank Stocker an electric screen would be ideal for touring. Keep it low in the summer so the wind cools you down and high in winter when it pissing it down and freezing........ wasn't an negative comment. Love the bike, just an idea.
Frank Stocker test rode one today. In US they retail for $12990. Imho this is the best all around motorcycle for the money in any category. Simply amazing. I currently own a FJR and a cb1000r. Looks like the FJR may be getting traded in soon.
Lovely bike but not very pillion friendly when you consider the carrying capacity is 180kg. For what is billed as a touring bike it doesn't leave much room for luggage.
When I decide to buy a new bike, I do all my homework and have a short list of 5. I then hope and pray TMF has ridden one and done his unique style of review. Then test ride the top 3. TMF provides such a helpful review and view point. Comparing to other bikes in class. Answers all the questions and then some. What an absolutely brilliant and valuable channel.
First big run for the 900GT, Bath to RAF Cosford to see the Tornado fly past. Very comfortable, very fast, there and back in seven hours, one stop for fuel, 30minutes at Cosford , see the Tonkas and go home. Very good day! Very good motorcycle.
Great review. I need to point out, though, that you mentioned 3 times the bigger tank. That's incorrect, all Tracers have always had this exact tank: 18L. Nothing has changed on any versions in that respect since its launch in 2015. I know, I've owned a 2015 and just traded for the '18 GT.
TheMissendenFlyer it's larger than the MT09 (SP) which would have been your most recent review of this bike type by 4 litres. But then everything in it is bigger overall!
Just when I thought I'm on top of my game, this comes along and completely messes up all my opinions, resulting in a complete rethink. After a long drought on desirable options in the market, manufacturers seem to have listened intensely to what people want and are in the process of rolling those out. I for one can't be happier for them making my next bike choice that much more difficult.
That's what im thinking. I have an old Fazer for 8 years now, and every time i think about replacing it, something even flashier appears. Oh well, at least one can testride many sweet bikes. I think i will wait the KTM 790 Enduro and then decide.
Hi all, I purchased one of these Yamaha Tracer 900 gt last year, I have to say I think he’s being a little kind about it. I’ve sold mine for a few reasons read on if you are thinking of buying one. The seat is terrible 90 minutes and you want to get off it, the ergonomics of this bike is so wrong the foot pegs are too far back so it constantly pushing you forward so you will never get comfortable on it. The quick shifter is absolutely useless feels like the gearbox is going to explode or the chain is going to snap. ( I’m comparing this to my other bike that is fitted with a quick shifter and is beautifully smooth). Try the Triumph Tiger 800 XRT before you decide.
I tried the Tracer but ended up with the Honda Crossrunner because of the better build quality. Ps. No one, in test, has mentioned the low load weight on the Tracer? 🇩🇰
I agree with you about the seat, it’s the worst I’ve ever experienced on any bike that I’ve owned in the last 40 years, I have to use an Airhawk pad otherwise my arse screams out in pain in under an hour
Rarely compared but I’m also interested to know how it is versus the Honda Crossrunner; I like the Honda build quality but it sounds very heavy. How do y’all see it?
I had a ride of the same year Tracer 900, but the non-GT version, (in the same beautiful (to my eyes) kind of Singer-Porsche grey colour) and I was surprised by how bad the suspension was, even jumping off a '98 VFR (which aren't exactly known for great suspension). Glad you mentioned it in the review. I hope to have a ride on the GT soon, but I wouldn't even think about buying the non-GT version.
Thank you for another cracking, honest review. After watching this, and your review of the 2017 Tracer 900, I took a used 2018 Tracer 900 (not GT, funds didn’t quite stretch that far) out for a test ride today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Paid for it there and then, delivery due on Wednesday. Happy Days !
Great review, I have the same bike and have done nearly 3000 miles across Europe last week, amazing machine. Vibration happens around 5000 revs but it doesn't bother me that much to be honest, and yes, that screen is noisy!
Road one today they're very good have the essential gadgets and could easily do the Alps, just need slightly taller screen im 6tt. Amazed with the grunt like a twin but spools up quicker cruises well in excess of 70 sits easier at speed than the GS. Quick shifter great away from the lights and tight bends. Brakes spot on front disk totally adequate rear ok. Hmmm nice bike who needs 1200 this thing flys
Not at all sure about the battleship grey and can't see that being a top seller, perhaps they could improve the look by adding some of the red decals to the panniers.
I agree, with all the great improvements on the bike they should have done better with color choices to really capitalize and sell a lot of bikes. I like the black one a little better, but to me that one should be better also. If they took the gold forks and went with either black or blue (like the rims) I think it would look more sophisticated. I have a 2015 FJ-09 and I really appreciate the styling detail upgrades they have made on the new models, but the paint colors are a bit of a let down.
Had mine now in the black colour option about three weeks and love it. I test drove the Tiger Xca and Xrt but also the BMW GSA and opted for this over them all based upon value for money, handling and engine performance for everyday riding. I get the colour schemes are not everyone’s cup of tea but i find them modern looking and eye catching. The screen is however, I have to say, not very good and could be better. Also think a heated seat should have been included. Other than that it’s a brilliant bike that is real value for money....I love it. Adjust the suspension to suit you and it transforms the handling so it’s worth putting the effort in to find your ideal settings!!! Great review by the way!!
Love your reviews TMF, please keep them coming! The Tracer 900 GT and "Ninja 1000" (z1000sx) are in great battle within my household thanks to your reviews. The Tracer was winning, but am giving pause to the vibrations and fuel range. However, the gizmos and center stand are hard to beat on the Yamaha!
If they had the Tracer GT this time last year I think I would have gone with that over the Tiger Sport I got. For the money it has everything you need for a great all rounder.
Great review, looking at buying one of these now, don't like the dash on the newer model at all with the split screen, I doubt those panniers weigh 6kgs, the recommended capacity might be 6kg per side?
Bought a tracer 900 GT last week. First bike in over 3 years. Your reviews have helped me enormously over the last 9 months. Love the bike might look for an aftermarket screen I'm 6ft 2 it feels a bit breezy after 60 mph. Big shout out to Ian Bell motorcycles Northumberland couldn't be more helpful. Now if it would just stop raining 🙄😉 Thanks again TMF.
Andy hi, though I have left plenty of comments on your videos (all positive of course), I thought it right to say thanks on this review for all your hard work. You frequently say that there aren't really any poor bikes and we live in a 'golden age' and though it is true, it is also a little frustrating when us ordinary folk are trying to decide by narrow margins. However re-reviewing your Tracer review, you actually subtly identify all of the Tracers pros and cons perfectly. Restricted to a single bike that has to do a bit of everything as comfortably as possible, even with its lack of technology and dodgy quality in places, the Tracer 900GT was the only choice last year for me. The pros have exceeded all expectations and the cons all liveable or fixable for a small number of british pounds. Thanks again and keep up the great work (and yes you can add some more subtle humour like 'mmmm fitness fanatics ... excellent')
I’ve not been looking forward to this review. Through gritted teeth I’ll keep my 17 plate........but why didn’t they put cruise control as an extra on the ‘17 something about the ecu ? The TFT doesn’t bother me I’m to busy looking forward. Another cracking review thanks.
I bought one, and your review is spot on, I’m glad you mentioned the vibration issues as I thought it was just me. After 2k miles it still vibrates as bad as when I got it, dealer not interested and says all bikes vibrate 😳😳, so basically just get on with it. Screen works better at very high speeds, but as you say pretty useless most of the time. Best advice is to try before you buy to see if you can live with the vibes. Thanks TMF.
Roger Zeitgeist Smith . Hi Roger, the vibrations start about 75 mph and disappears around 85 mph, it doesn’t matter if you’re in 5th or 6th gear you can’t get round it. I generally have to cruise at just about 90 mph to avoid it, this is usually on the motorways of course. It’s a right pain in the arse, and I’m seriously thinking of selling mine because of it. Get a test ride if you can is the best advice I can give you.👍
Saw the blue version yesterday in my local showroom, looked a good solid bike. One for the future for me, just a great value, do everything bike. I want one! 😊
Totally agree about the bigger tourers . Bikes like this and the Tiger 800 range have made the bigger bikes largely redundant. I owned a Tiger for 3 years and in all honesty its the best all-round bike I've had. Ridden the big tourers from Triumph BMW and Ducati and just don't see the point .. just more bulk and weight for no reason.
I just wanted to you know that I bought this motorcycle partly because of your review. I was between this and the Triumph Speed Twin (which I love). Ultimately, It was because I wanted "a bike you could do it all on". I'm loving the Tracer 900 GT though, what a smooth machine it is!
Your reviews are great. They're just right and a pleasure to watch. Thanks for doing the GT as I was curious about it. I saw one at the dealer last Friday and was surprised that it was bigger and taller than I expected, more than I need. After a test ride, I bought a black 2018 MT09 like the 2017 one you reviewed in your other video. Terrific bike and so much smoother than I anticipated in the canyons. Still keeping the S1000RR too, though. Nice to have variety. Atb, Mike
Another great review TMF. I am looking for a “do it all bike” and this one is on the shortlist. My wife likes to ride pillion and that area of the bike looks like it would meet with approval also. As a U.K. rider I would be interested to know if there is any protection for the swing arm or whether a hugger is the first thing that needs to be purchased! Keep up the good work!
Love the tracer and it just keeps getting better. A bike for me would have to be a do it all bike. The commute to work, tour of Europe and something fun for the weekend. Tracer GT it is then.
As a previous Crossrunner owner, I can safely say he made the right decision, unless, he wanted to spend an additional £2 grand plus, and enjoyed mediocre performance below 70mph, doesn't want engine modes, cruise control etc. and a seriously top heavy bike. 😏
Just taken a second look at this very good review by TMF because I've ordered one from Phoenix Yamaha in Trowbridge. only one problem, which colour ? probably black...
Almost went the mt way myself until i found a man to reduce safely the gs's handlebar width. On that note possibly add widest point measurements for those of us that have to negotiate a narrow garden entrance etc? If Yamaha add a shaft drive to this machine i think it would clean up the adventure market, great review as ever.
Glad to find that I am not the only one to notice the vibration. Totally unexpected on a three cylinder machine. Surprisingly, not mentioned in any test report I have read.
Great review as always. Have the test ridden the GT and really wanted to like the bike. The vibes are a deal breaker, I could feel them through the footrest as well as the bars. The bike is good but was underwhelmed coming from a 1200GS which is to be expected. Good value and I am sure they will sell well.
One of the better looking current bigger Yamahas - just an R1 might be prettier. And sounds the ideal general purpose bike. And again, Triumph have the components not being fully exploited - either a torquier version of the 765 triple or a slightly boosted power version of the Tiger 800 engine. Either would be good in a pure road oriented sporty tallrider tourer like this. 110bhp-ish, 220Kg max. And a suitable modern sprint ST replacement.
Even though I prefer the triple, I'd be swayed to go with the Suzuki V-Strom 1000 with it's 20 liter fuel tank and better stock wind protection. Thank you TMF for another great review.
great review as always. I have a 66 plate which I use mainly for commuting. Thinking of upgrading to the GT version. Quick shifter and a more comfortable seat a big bonus. I have been told the handlebars are slightly narrower than my version. Tank size is the same at 18 ltrs though. Mt09 is 14 I think from memory
Been waiting for this review. I upgraded to the GT from my '15 Tracer and the difference is amazing. The longer swing arm makes a big difference to the handling. The stability of the bike is now spot on. I added some extra's, one which you will appreciate, I went for the heated comfort seat which is just over £350 (a bargain compared to your GS one) and the switch just slots into the spare socket next to the TFT screen so all neat and tidy. The TFT screen is brilliant and the way it switches at night time to all black with white writing is a nice touch. All in all I couldn't be happier. Its a perfect all rounder. I can get to my destination in comfort, unload the panniers and have some serious fun in the twisties when I get there. I don't think anything comes close to the spec for the price.
Thanks again for the nice review, TMF. People used to complain about the older Tracer being uncomfortable. Is this one more comfortable? I appreciate what Yamaha is doing for the market with this bike at a decent price and excellent specs. I'm pretty sure it'll make an excellent tourer. I honestly just so wish Kawasaki would make a bigger version of the Versys 650, though. The bike is really hard to beat in terms of comfort, customisation, low consumption and above all reliability.
Yep, 10 or 15 more HP on the Versys would be just perfect to cruise on the highway at midrange or for the occasional emergency acceleration when loaded with passenger and luggage.
Exactly, more power & similar features as the tracer GT for around the same price or alittle less & they'd have some serious competition on there hands.
I put this up against the Triumph Tiger 800 and this one wins hands down. Great video Sir as always! This will be my next bike in my stable of steeds. Best video done on this bike. Very informative to the point it pushed me over the edge. Buying the GT version.
Nice review TMF. I’ve always liked the look of the Tracer although never ridden one. Me and my brood are off to the US for a few weeks and just bought an iPad to hdmi adapter so we can keep watching on the TV. Cheers!
TheMissendenFlyer How about Tracer900GT vs V Strom 1000 in your opinion. InThailand it’s the same price (V Strom 1000 have Special Gift Voucher to reduce its price). I ride on road 90% and just a little off road.
thank u very much TMF, for this review, i've been waiting for your review on this bike since i am gonna buy it. And u were really helpful for me to make me not changing my mind and go for another bike.
All together a very nice review, thorough and informative. The rider is clearly experienced and points out both the pros and cons with solid conclusions. Perhaps, as a helpful suggestion, the rider should compare and contrast this bike to the BMW f900 XR, which in my estimation is it's closest competitor. All in all, a really top-notch review. Thank you very much for the great work and keep it up!
As an JF-09 owner I think the "vibration" is inherent with the Yamaha 3 banger. I got the buzz in my bike till about 12,000 miles. And the dam turn signals don't go off after time. And they finally fixed one terrible seat. And change out the stock tires and the bike gets even better. Fully adjustable suspension is great except 95% have no clue what or how to adjust the settings correctly. But, for the $$ it is a very good buy, just have to tweak it a bit.
Another great review Tmf. I just dont understand , if there redesigning a bike as a touring machine , then fit paniers that are poor on space. And whats with the grey and white colour scheme , what were they thinking !
In my mind, it depends on what your definition of "touring" is. I ride a 1200 Gold Wing, and even though it *has* 139 liters of storage, most of the time I don't *use* 139 liters of storage. Even when I took off a 3000-mile trip recently, I really only used both saddlebags for storage. So for weekend trips or 3-day getaways, the Tracer's bags would be fine in addition to a soft bag on the passenger seat. I just don't take that much when I travel. Different strokes, as they say.
Thanks for posting. Great video as usual. Very thorough. I could never do what you are doing. For me, the temptation would be great to buy many of these bikes you test drive. Which would be fine, except for my wife divorcing me and having to live under an overpass. Trade offs, I suppose. Best to live vicariously through you. :)
I took the same exact model code for a test ride 2 weeks ago. All in all it is a terrific motorcycle. Three minor comments..... The signal switch is a bit hard to find while wearing gloves. I found the seat in the low position is a little too firm and tends to push me toward the gas tank. And according to the sticker on the gas tank you need to use a high octane premium fuel.
Thinking of upgrading maybe, to one of these. I have the 2017 Tracer and love it. An absolute pleasure to ride and perfect for New Zealand roads. I was going to mention the tank size, but i see someone already has. I have put the Yamaha grip warmers on mine, so the only thing missing is cruise control! All bikes these days ought to have at least grip warmers and all tourers should include cruise control as standard. Keep up the great reviews.
Great review, TMF, as always! Giving serious consideration to this bike, but I'm somewhat torn between having something that can do (most) anything or having a streetfighter that's light and powerful for commuting around the city, which is 99% of my cycling time at the moment. Thanks for the info!
Great review, I have been waiting for this one. Looking for my "retirement bike" and this is the front runner at the moment. Kawi Concours is another possibility, it is more powerful, but a lot heavier.
..there is definitely something to be said for the triple layout. Smoothness and character - a nice sound and torque distribution across the rev range. I guess many of the bikes you test are very low mileage - whenever I've been fortunate enough to have a brand-new bike, it's been at least 1000 miles before they've started to loosen up - certainly the bigger displacement/lower state of tune engines, such as that in my FJR1300, are said to take at least 10,000 miles before getting to their optimum.
It’s Blue, not purple! Having done some miles on mine I agree that the screen needs changing. I don’t seem to suffer the vibrations from the handlebars, but do from the foot pegs st higher speeds. Replacing the stock foot pegs with those from the FJR sorted this problem though. Good review, great bike!
I love the MT-09 range and this variation looks pretty good apart from the colour. The panniers certainly need a design rethink. Being too small to take a helmet is a definite minus. Do they lock to the bike? Both the MT-09 and Tracer have better aftermarket panniers than these stock ones, so I wonder why Yamaha didn't just hand the job over to a known brand like Krauser or Givi? As a potential tourer, I'd like to see larger rubberised footrest, fitted slightly further forward for comfort. Good review. ::: Camouflage tousers when riding, not too sure about that.
The standard panniers do lock to the frame, not sure what you mean by better panniers if you mean bigger then yes certainly they do make bigger ones. You can get FJR1300 panniers which fit straight on to the Tracer. I believe Yamaha went for City Cases as they felt that the larger panniers would make the bike unstable, due to the amount of Givi etc available I think the main reason is it would potentially take sales from the FJR1300 if it had the same luggage capacity.
Supposedly this is the big idea of having only one light ON in the headlight module: SAFETY and AWARENESS. At night time 2 lights ON close side by side could confuse some of us by thinking it's a car STILL in the distance and if we try to do a maneuver that requires extra time and space(left turn), well . . . I guess you can imagine what could happen to the rider.
Not sure if anyone caught this before but you forgot to mention the bike comes with the center stand as standard. Though to be fair, people who take that into consideration when buying a touring bike would definitely have seen it in the video so not a big deal. :)
Bought a mtsp09 on the strength of your review. Off touring so this may have been a better bet. Its a great bike and thankyou for your unbiased reviews
I test rode one last week from Moores in Apsley. It's a sensible choice. Agree about the indicator switch and screen/noise. I pushed it a little hard through the twisties and the better stability does make it less sporty in the handling department. Not sure you'd have as much fun when you've arrived at your destination but obviously more comfortable getting there, and therein lays the dilemma.
Thank you for the review. Was excellent to the point I have now purchased. Fantastic machine that is capable of a hard fun ride to touring. Keep up the good work.
Love my 2016 900 tracer... original seat was dire and my "comfort" seat not that much better, have been all over the country on it and into London and back 5 days a week... It is a little on the sportier side for long journeys but cannot fault it with exception of the stock suspension which needs tweaking to get right. It's a bit skitish... Have mine in the best colour, silver and blue wheels lol. Led indicators, comfort seat, few bits and a full akro system.... sounds the bollocks.
Great rundown. Enjoy your tour to Norway MSF. Warm weather awaits you. My son is living there at the moment. He tells me the water temp at the beach the other night, yes twilight swimming with many others at 11pm, was 22 degrees C. You lucky man.
Thanks for the review. I’m taking 900GT out for a test ride next weekend from Powerbiking as I’m starting to look for a replacement for my Honda NC750 XA. As I need something with a bit more oomph for two up long distance riding.
to make this more stable at speed .yamaha have narrowed the handlebars on the GT which nobody has mentioned as well as suspension mods and longer swing arm .KN air filter makes a big difference on this model.pick up is instant..last one got nicked in 10 min so make sure you never leave them unchained. the more the better.got tracker and alarm fitted and lots of chains on new one.police are a waste of time with bike thefts so make sure you chain them to a solid object.ride safe.
@TheMissidenFlyer I happened to have a ride of one of these this morning (before seeing your review). I did this straight after taking a VFR800 Crossrunner out (which I know you've got a review of too). My impression was that the Yamaha felt cheap. Definitely lithe and sporty (you're bang on about the leg position and seat!). I think I found it more confidence inspiring to ride. But the touch points all feel properly cheap (switch gear especially) and that screen is fecking hopeless. After spending more time on the Honda I got used to the way it corners (the only way I can really describe the difference is that one bike feels like it's made of steel and the other aluminium, if that even makes sense?). What are your thoughts on how the two compare?
I agree - the Honda is the more solid feeling bike - I think a lot of the "MT" Yams feel a bit too flickable almost....the GT is better than most though I thought with that longer swing arm...
TheMissendenFlyer I managed to ride the Tracer 700, 900 and the 900 GT back to back and I could definitely tell the difference between the two 900 variants that's for sure (the 700 is evil - I took my test on an MT07 and didn't really like that either, swapped over to the schools ER-6N for the Mod 2). I completely agree with your observation that it doesn't feel like a big bike. Stepping from the Crossrunner back to my CB500X felt like a massive difference (and step down), but doing the same after the 900GT wasn't such a huge difference (power aside of course). I'm going to try the Tiger 800 next week (unsure about the XR Vs XC for commuter purposes - I'll try both but what are your thoughts?). Seeing as I'm seemingly trying everything in the class I might as well throw one of BMW's 800(ish)'s in to the mix too I guess.
6stringsong what are your thoughts on the Tiger 800 after your test ride? How did it compare to the Tracer in terms of comfort, handling, engine, etc.?
Themissendenflyer in regards to the headlight, i have heard two seperate reasons. One was that it was required for endurance races in Japan to have one headlight on and the other was that a motorcycle at night or in the fog looks like a car further away with two headlights on.
I agree, lots of nice bikes in the market at the moment but I like Yamaha’s recent design thinking and price brackets. Thanks for another great and enjoyable review TMF 🍻
Test rode this bike last week, can't fault it at all, incredible value for money, Yamaha do some great accessories for it as well. I'm looking for a sports tourer and at the moment this is top of the list. It also has a main stand.. great review TMF .
Wonder how these bikes are doing coming up on 2020? Needs a tail rack as standard since it's a touring rig. Maybe they're equipped that way now. Nice bike especially for the price. Love the sound off the triple. Love the taste of a cold Belgium triple too!
Frank Stocker Totally agree with that Frank, I'm loving mine !
One thing i would like to know is this bike “pillion friendly”? It’s hard to fins a review with the pillion point of view.
Thank you very much Lee - appreciated!
First big run for the 900GT, Bath to RAF Cosford to see the Tornado fly past. Very comfortable, very fast, there and back in seven hours, one stop for fuel, 30minutes at Cosford , see the Tonkas and go home. Very good day! Very good motorcycle.
Like the exhaust being tucked in and that it comes with a centre stand.
Thanks for the clarification (not sure where I got that idea from then!!)
TheMissendenFlyer it's larger than the MT09 (SP) which would have been your most recent review of this bike type by 4 litres. But then everything in it is bigger overall!
?
I'd be interested in your opinion of this bike versus the Kawasaki Versys.
Agreed - some great machines to choose from these days...
That's what im thinking. I have an old Fazer for 8 years now, and every time i think about replacing it, something even flashier appears. Oh well, at least one can testride many sweet bikes. I think i will wait the KTM 790 Enduro and then decide.
I have absolutely waited for this review a long time and it's finally here. Thank you sir.
Hope it was worth the wait!
Definitely sir. This is one of my top favorite bikes on my list. Love the Tracer a lot.
@@BazzerObama you must have a very soft A**,what were you sitting in for 40 yrs an armchair- give us a break
Exciting times Ian!
Have you still got it? If not, why did you sell it?
Great review, I have the same bike and have done nearly 3000 miles across Europe last week, amazing machine. Vibration happens around 5000 revs but it doesn't bother me that much to be honest, and yes, that screen is noisy!
Been away from bikes since my early 20s kids are up and been wanting a new bike, I really fancy getting this..great review 👍
Finally got a chance to ride the Tracer last week and it's a splendid bike overall. Best value in the sport tourer category.
Great review tmf. Had mine for just over a week now, great all round machine. Looking forward to touring the d-day landing beaches soon!!
I have been waiting for this review especially coming from you
I hope it was worth the wait! Thanks for watching....
Thanks for this valuable review again...Now which one to choose this one or Africa Twin?
@@serdarozaydiner this
Not at all sure about the battleship grey and can't see that being a top seller, perhaps they could improve the look by adding some of the red decals to the panniers.
God that color scheme looks so much better than what we get in the us.... you can have whatever color you’d like. As long as its black..
Thanks very much for watching - appreciated!
What were your thoughts on the two Tiger 800 models compared to the Tracer GT?
Love your reviews TMF, please keep them coming! The Tracer 900 GT and "Ninja 1000" (z1000sx) are in great battle within my household thanks to your reviews. The Tracer was winning, but am giving pause to the vibrations and fuel range. However, the gizmos and center stand are hard to beat on the Yamaha!
Good luck with your choice Mark!
If they had the Tracer GT this time last year I think I would have gone with that over the Tiger Sport I got. For the money it has everything you need for a great all rounder.
I absolutely love the reviews but the lovely tour through the English countryside is why I'm here. Well done!
Thanks.....
I'm watching your Arctic Circle vid now! Beautiful. I'm in Oregon and have been blessed with beautiful riding out here as well! Cheers!
I must ride there one day!
You are welcome to come ride with me anytime. Its a beautiful state with some amazing moto roads!!
Great review, looking at buying one of these now, don't like the dash on the newer model at all with the split screen,
I doubt those panniers weigh 6kgs, the recommended capacity might be 6kg per side?
Bought a tracer 900 GT last week. First bike in over 3 years. Your reviews have helped me enormously over the last 9 months.
Love the bike might look for an aftermarket screen I'm 6ft 2 it feels a bit breezy after 60 mph.
Big shout out to Ian Bell motorcycles Northumberland couldn't be more helpful. Now if it would just stop raining 🙄😉
Thanks again TMF.
Congratulations Steven!
Thanks again and keep up the great work (and yes you can add some more subtle humour like 'mmmm fitness fanatics ... excellent')
Cheers Bob - glad you're spotting my jokes!.....
I’ve not been looking forward to this review. Through gritted teeth I’ll keep my 17 plate........but why didn’t they put cruise control as an extra on the ‘17 something about the ecu ? The TFT doesn’t bother me I’m to busy looking forward. Another cracking review thanks.
TMF keep the quality videos rolling. I just saw this at the dealer and wow! It is a stylish bike looks large but well balance. Safe travels.
Superb review as always thanks for your time to show us these great machines and this Tracer GT is no exception.
Thanks TMF.
Thanks for the comment and glad we agree! All the best - TMF
Just the sort of things that get VERY tiresome when putting serious miles on bikes and most suffer from them.
At what speeds do the vibrations occur?
Roger Zeitgeist Smith . Hi Roger, the vibrations start about 75 mph and disappears around 85 mph, it doesn’t matter if you’re in 5th or 6th gear you can’t get round it. I generally have to cruise at just about 90 mph to avoid it, this is usually on the motorways of course. It’s a right pain in the arse, and I’m seriously thinking of selling mine because of it. Get a test ride if you can is the best advice I can give you.👍
Duncan Blanchard lol. Selling a brand new bike because it vibrates.
Love all of the TMF reviews .... !!
Nice one - and congratulations on the bike!
Another excellent review! Boy have you been blessed with some great riding weather this summer!
Sure have and it seems to be continuing!
Aye, compared to the Tiger 800 and the Ducati Multistrada 900 you do get so much more bang for your buck. Great bike.
Dear TMF. Have bought one of these. Pick it up tommorow. Keep up the good work. Cheers ears.
Congratulations!
Atb, Mike
Thanks for watching and for stopping by! All the best - TMF
I collect mine Tuesday from a London Yamaha. Few extras: LED indicators, tail tidy and a rear carrier.
Solid video as ever TMF.
Nice - congratulations and enjoy Dean....
They saw you coming mate...…………………….should have got the VFR 800 crossrunnerX
Dean Steven ,Congratulations, best of luck with the new bike.
elitetileandstone why thank you. Also just ordered a screen protector courtesy of TMF 20% discount.
Great problem to have!
I went for Black!
Love your reviews. Some of the best on RUclips. Except now I want 6 bikes
Sorry about that Jeremy!
Glad to find that I am not the only one to notice the vibration. Totally unexpected on a three cylinder machine. Surprisingly, not mentioned in any test report I have read.
Glad it's not just me!
Thank you for watching!
great review as always.
Thanks for the real world feedback Alan...
Excellent review, as always. I must ride this bike one day, looks right up my alley. Cheers.
I put this up against the Triumph Tiger 800 and this one wins hands down. Great video Sir as always! This will be my next bike in my stable of steeds. Best video done on this bike. Very informative to the point it pushed me over the edge. Buying the GT version.
Enjoy!
Nice review TMF. I’ve always liked the look of the Tracer although never ridden one. Me and my brood are off to the US for a few weeks and just bought an iPad to hdmi adapter so we can keep watching on the TV. Cheers!
Nice one!
A decendent of the TDM 900 ?
The colour would suggest that (I actually like the grey though)
Does the suspension a little bit too soft like MT-09, or better?
Don't recall it being too soft?
TheMissendenFlyer How about Tracer900GT vs V Strom 1000 in your opinion. InThailand it’s the same price (V Strom 1000 have Special Gift Voucher to reduce its price). I ride on road 90% and just a little off road.
thank u very much TMF, for this review, i've been waiting for your review on this bike since i am gonna buy it. And u were really helpful for me to make me not changing my mind and go for another bike.
Thanks for watching and for stopping by! All the best - TMF
Much appreciated! I'll pass your comments on to the rider....
Great review, saw this today in the show room the exact one you where riding from high Wycombe Yamaha and it's absolutely stunning
Crikey -hasn’t it sold yet!?
I don't mean the one your actually riding I mean the one that looks just like the one your riding
Your videos are great. If I wasn't stuck in "the colony" I'd join you in Britain for a ride.
Wasn't a fan of the windscreen on the previous tracer, this one doesn't look any better.
18litres! Where's the rest of the tank?
I'm not too keen on the grey Tracer GT.
Picking mine up on Friday next week from the wonderful Phoenix Motorcycles in Trowbridge, thanks for the review helped the buying decision!
Congratulations!
Nice review as always TMF. keep 'em coming :)
Actually there are so many good bikes out there you would never know which ones to buy!!
I agree on both points!
Good point....
Nice review! Correction: TC can be switched of. Just hold the TC button for a couple of seconds and TC is switched off.
Thanks for the clarification!
I've got to say you picked the dark side of the bike to remove the panniers so didn't really have the light to see the mounts
Great review as always and no white van!
Great review as ever, very useful information thanks very much. All the best.

I pick up my new 900 GT on the 1st of March ordered yesterday
Ooh congratulations - exciting times waiting for a new bike!
Thanks for watching and for stopping by! All the best - TMF
Thank you for the review. Was excellent to the point I have now purchased. Fantastic machine that is capable of a hard fun ride to touring. Keep up the good work.
Thanks and will do!
Wow - where is he in Norway?
TheMissendenFlyer Oslo.
tank is the same size 18 L for all 900 tracers, great bike & review
Also for the FJ-09, the US version.
Nice review as always, great imformation.
Thanks for the review. I’m taking 900GT out for a test ride next weekend from Powerbiking as I’m starting to look for a replacement for my Honda NC750 XA. As I need something with a bit more oomph for two up long distance riding.
Make sure and tell 'em you saw it on the Missenden Flyer! (that way they might let me ride more bikes :0)
Great review ( as ever ) TMF. I have Airfix grey GT with 1500 on the clock after 6weeks, totally agree with all of your findings.
to make this more stable at speed .yamaha have narrowed the handlebars on the GT which nobody has mentioned as well as suspension mods and longer swing arm .KN air filter makes a big difference on this model.pick up is instant..last one got nicked in 10 min so make sure you never leave them unchained. the more the better.got tracker and alarm fitted and lots of chains on new one.police are a waste of time with bike thefts so make sure you chain them to a solid object.ride safe.
Awesome review man! I’m getting this bike!!
Very informative video. Made me smile when you said most of us only have 1 bike...except you of course:)-
Glad you liked it!
not exactly a head turner is it?
Themissendenflyer in regards to the headlight, i have heard two seperate reasons. One was that it was required for endurance races in Japan to have one headlight on and the other was that a motorcycle at night or in the fog looks like a car further away with two headlights on.
Yes I’ve heard the same - thanks for watching and for stopping by - TMF
I agree, lots of nice bikes in the market at the moment but I like Yamaha’s recent design thinking and price brackets.
Thanks for another great and enjoyable review TMF 🍻
Thanks for watching and for stopping by! All the best - TMF
Picked mine up today in Phantom Blue and I love it 😍
Congratulations!
Test rode this bike last week, can't fault it at all, incredible value for money, Yamaha do some great accessories for it as well. I'm looking for a sports tourer and at the moment this is top of the list. It also has a main stand.. great review TMF .
Cheers Nigel and I agree - great machine this one, great value too.....really impressed by it.
Wonder how these bikes are doing coming up on 2020? Needs a tail rack as standard since it's a touring rig. Maybe they're equipped that way now. Nice bike especially for the price. Love the sound off the triple. Love the taste of a cold Belgium triple too!
thanks again for an excellent review, my two eternal questions: engine heat? would you take this over the crossrunner?
No engine heat I noticed and yes I would....
