Hey so Harley actually does have a backstory! She originated as a sidekick character for the Joker on the Animated Series then became a staying character in the comics. Initially she was a psychiatrist in Arkham who ended up working with him as a patient, he manipulated her into loving him, so she busted him out and became Harley Quinn. They eventually end up in an abusive relationship for a looooong while before her current iteration breaks it off for good and went solo. Now she usually has a thing with Poison Ivy which had been heavily hinted at for years since the animated series but is official now. Some fun facts are she's basically inspired by and named after her OG voice actress Arleen Sorkin (RIP) and she's not a natural blonde even though she's portrayed like that nowadays, no one ever remembers that throwaway line lmao. My one irritation is very few portrayals utilize the fact that she WAS a psychiatrist and stick to the ditsy blonde chaotic crazy clown girl persona too hard trying to match Joker's freak. I get it but it's annoying, she could actually be very intelligent, capable, and dangerous if written well. Sorry for yapping, I love DC Comics and Harley Quinn was my absolute favorite as a kid. DC live action movies have been kicking me while I'm down for years now lmao Edit: I'm also just genuinely baffled by Lady Gaga as the choice to play her?? Why??
Thank you for sharing this! Yeah from what I knew the joker was a patient of hers. That would’ve been a much cooler angle than this one. This movie just has her as like a random super fan. It’s so wack.

Falling Down came out decades ago... Even the musical aspect was filler for having no real reason for being included. It wasn't a valid plot device at all. Hell, should've got lin Manuel to help. The fact the real/fake" joker cuts his own face makes it worse because we all know the implications it makes even if they don't make sense, and that angle doesn't make because harvey dent is in the movie! How many fake jokers had painted faces? And the ONLY iteration of joker cutting his face(heath ledger) is the one killing the joker? It's so ham fisted it's insulting. People can pretend the movie had a bigger arching point but the only reason you have to think that is because the surface level is so bad. You have no choice to to find some good to cling to. The story, plot, pacing was straight trash. Good performances an cinematography is a wasted plus if the main core isn't good. Not to mention classic movies exist without those two aspects.
They called me crazy when I said the first movie was ok but a bit boring and that was a bad Joker movie, and now they still call me crazy but at least now we agree that there's at least one very very bad Joker movie
The content conversion rate for 4 hours of a day into 12 minutes is pretty clean. It's unfortunate when good actors get directed to do bad things and waste that much time, though. Imagining how much waiting and standing around the actors had to do to make that 2 and a half hours makes it all even worse. Just an overall waste.
It feels like the director is spiteful he was forced to do a sequel, like whats happened to many sequals before, thats my take, he knew exactly what he was doing and the corpos are going to suffer for it
Sounds like malicious compliance to me, lmao. I understand why he would make as many terrible decisions as he could to stick it to the studio, but also, let somebody who does want to make the movie make the movie. Why are you being so greedy?
As someone who didnt want them to make a Joker movie in the 1st place, Im not surprised at the response to a second one. Like who would want to watch a movie about a villian thats not fighting his/her arch nemesis? Joker is at his best within the confines of a Batman led story imo
Idk, at first I was pretty conflicted about it after watching it. But once I got the whole point of it all I found it pretty good. Maybe because of the contrast of peoples expectations and the movie itself it gave people such a tonal whiplash, that they thought it was so bad. And unlike other really bad movies this year, I've found many other people that also liked the movie because of its message. And I know it might seem really pretentious to like a bad movie because it has a really good deeper message, but I think people are really rating it unfairly. This movie doesn't really have anything to do with the comics or other movies, and is purely original. I'd frame this movie as an art project that got funded by Hollywood executives because of the first movies success. This movie tries to hammer home a theme that many people didn't really care about it the first movie. It's that people only care about the Joker, and not Arthur. People only cared about the first movie because it was about the Joker and him doing Joker things. So this was kind of like a giant middle finger to those who only care about the Joker, and in my opinion it worked. The criticism of "he doesn't do any Joker things" proves that. Also, I do agree that the trailer is false advertising and general expectations were not met, but that doesn't make it a bad movie. All these criticisms make this a bad Joker movie, but not a bad movie. Also saying nobody asked for a musical is a pretty surface level critique and not true. Many of the critiques in this video just don't look deep enough. Even the "Harley arc" has its purpose in the movie. It's about people only caring about the Joker, and in a deeper way people making a martyr out of a really mentally ill person, and using their outbursts as a some kind of sick entertainment. And in the case of Lee her only using him because of her fetishization with Arthurs mental illness of him being the Joker. And I find the commentary really well executed. I get that people were disappointed, but I don't really like how people frame this movie as being so terrible. If you just go to the theater with an open mind, and try to look past it just being about the Joker you are going to like it at least a little. But if you just call it boring, you miss the big picture. I'm not calling this some big brain Rick and Morty copypasta crap about only smart people getting it. And I'm not a film nut either. But I liked it when I thought about it a bit more. And I urge people to reconsider and not just dislike because of something so surface level.
I'm sad that Suicide Squad was so awful because I really want a return to gangster Joker and the idea of a modern "gangsta" Joker is an interesting twist. Crazy serial killer Joker is a bit overdone now. Basic answers, but Animated series and Dark Knight will always be peak.
There are times where saying "screw you" to the audience works out in a movie. The Mist is a prime example. Sounds like this Joker 2 movie did it the wrong way and basically shouldn't even exist as a film since the director didn't even want to make it in the first place (money is a helluva drug& the first one made a billion).
There's some good Joker content out there. Of course Heath Ledger's Joker is beloved and legendary for a good reason, he had an absolutely amazing portrayal. If you're into animated stuff, Mark Hamill voices the Joker in the animated series. But my favourite version of the Joker, and one of the most underrated I think, is Kevin Michael Richardson in WB's The Batman 2004 series. That is one of my fave Batman shows, I grew up off it! Plus I think it has the best Clayface, I love Poison Ivy's story in that one, and Batgirl and Robin are great!
Your breath control is CRAZY bruh keep it up! I love how you not only are working on your craft, but you also found a platform to get it out!! Keep it up bruh, I'm hoping for nothing for success for you!!!💯💯
I don't really get all the anger about this movie I'm seeing. I didn't really care for the first one and I enjoyed the 2nd one so much more. And the second viewing made it even better. It was interesting seeing the sequel to a movie breaking down its prequel as well as the audience reception.

I’ve heard that this movie only happened due to a contract since the 1st movie was such a success. I feel like the director made this out of spite of Hollywood forcing him to work.
I hated the first Joker moving because outside of Joaquin’s performance, it was dull and was just there. So I feel like, from everything I heard and read about the sequel, I’m gonna despise it.
Money. She’s decent on screen really. From what I read HQ’s purpose in the film was really underserved. Changing her backstory undermined the charm and manipulative power of Joker and cheapened HQs entire character…. And I’m okay with a cash grab. Most blockbuster films are just cash grabs. But like… phew. Sad.
I went in expecting it to suck because of the musical thing. I liked it well enough since my expectations were low. Felt like the whole point was throttling people who liked the first one for the wrong reasons. Like the fans of the TV movie are a stand in for people who forgot the Joker is a villain (/liked that and rooted for him) because the talk show host was a dick.
I just saw the movie and it was ok, I do agree that the singing was excessive, and the ending was ass… I liked where they were going with the movie and they could’ve done well but they blew it
I groaned when I heard joker 2 was a MUSICAL, don't get me wrong, I feel like musicals can work, but most of the musicals that I watched were not immersive, and it takes me out so much. So I have a bad impression of musicals. Tell me if I'm wrong but I feel like good musicals are hard to find.
if you're a theater guy, may i recommend The Maids, it's a stageplay by Jean Genet that also has a movie made in the 70s that's very good and acted theatrically.
I'm not planning on watching this movie. I heard it's shit so often, I don't want to try to verify it. I do that with everything, tbh. I don't like wasting my time doing sth I don't like. what I like to verify is when people glaze sth, cuz idk if that's true or not. tastes are subjective, you see, but only weirdos like eating shit. the outro is good, damn.
I wanna know wtf decided that a musical was needed on a Joker movie 🤨 I blame the fans 🤡 when it was first announced they hyped it up but it’s f- around and found it happened smh Jack Nicholson didn’t sing, Heath Ledger didn’t sing but Joaquin Phoenix does ugh that laugh he does is annoying in itself 😂
This movie was an “F you” from the director to the studio. They pretty much forced him to make a second movie when he only wanted to make one so he purposely made this one bad
I mean his a guy in prison going to court where else should the scenes happen. I think anyone who has or had to deal with being someone else for someone's love/adoration would understand how Athur feels. This movie wasn't about "the joker" it was about Arthur. Knock knock_whos there?_ Arthur Fleck_Arthur who?....that joke should have told you enough about his state of mind. Nobody cares about Arthur, including the movie goers, all you wanted to see was voilence and a futhur decent into insanity. And I loved every single song.
@@sameoabrahams256 I wouldn’t have expected more action if the trailer hadn’t shown me it was going to be a high intensity movie. I’m fine with him saying he’s just Arthur and not the joker but the movie wasn’t presented that way at all before release. Same way they hid it was a musical. Also hard to love the music when pretty much none of the songs are original. But I’m glad you liked it lol
Well, I didn't want to say don't bother watching it in your last post, so ... Also, there's a lot of people in denial that the guards SA'd Arthur. Is media literacy really that bad amongst younger viewers?
I wish we could respond with GIFs because I would respond with that one of Boosie’s daughter. “I told you 🥷🏾🥷🏾🥷🏾.” That movie was s bad at the end everybody was like booooo🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅.
Can I just be the one to say....I never got the hype around the first movie to begin with? Outside of some stellar performances from the cast, the fact of the matter is, that movie says NOTHING. If you go back and watch it and ask yourself what that movie is trying to say, the message is a very clear and unnuanced "society/capitalism bad." It doesn't actually ask any deeper questions or examine how that plays out on different socio-economical levels. You know what movies did? People kind of like to hand wave them off now that The Batman exists, but Nolan's films were asking much bigger questions about society, crime, and privilege than The Joker ever attempted (even if the narrative ultimately placed most of the people asking these questions as villains). Semi-related, I'm very curious on how Nolan would've interpreted Harley.
i know this wasn't the topic of the video but i had like no idea you were a theatre kid have you ever listened to the heathers n beetlejuice soundtracks

I just saw the movie and it was ok, I do agree that the singing was excessive, and the ending was ass… I liked where they were going with the movie and they could’ve done well but they blew it
I liked the flow in the outro!
@@yourgrandfather806 thanks!
I-I I-I I-I I-I, AND I WANT YOU TO WANT ME TOOOOOOOOOOOO
Movie twitter bout to call this shit a classic by next year
surely not lol
Damn even derapy movie reviews taking off
Shoutout to Thomas The Dank Engine. That name is so funny😂😂💪🏾
Is the The Penguin show any good
It is good 👍
if you're a theater guy, may i recommend The Maids, it's a stageplay by Jean Genet that also has a movie made in the 70s that's very good and acted theatrically.
Thank you for your review ❤
I feel better about not buying in to this franchise. Still haven't seen the 1st one 🤷🏾♂️
I wanna know wtf decided that a musical was needed on a Joker movie 🤨 I blame the fans 🤡 when it was first announced they hyped it up but it’s f- around and found it happened smh Jack Nicholson didn’t sing, Heath Ledger didn’t sing but Joaquin Phoenix does ugh that laugh he does is annoying in itself 😂
don’t
Thank you for saving me and others from watching this movie
Doing the world a favor
Hold on where are all the defenders from the community posts?
Instagram is now inundated with jonkler reels
It's like torture
derapyyyyyyyyyyyyy🗣🗣🗣‼️‼️‼️
"Don't (Dare)-apy"
nice lol
If i go in expecting a Joker movie: its gonna suck
If i go in expecting a movie abour Arthur: i would probably enjoy it a lot more
It's funny how I slacked on watching the show after becoming a member of the channel 😂
Come back!!!
I didn’t hate it, but it felt just unnecessary…
I liked it more than joker 1 frankly but i absolutely hated joker 1
Here before I even saw the notification!
I cant wait to see the next movie in the trilogy Joker- its morbin time 😩
This movie was an “F you” from the director to the studio. They pretty much forced him to make a second movie when he only wanted to make one so he purposely made this one bad
Makes sense
bro it’s always The Heart Part 5😭😂😂🕺🏾🕺🏾🕺🏾
@@Derapy good thing I didn't watch the trailer then 😂😂
Batman the Animated Series has a great portrayal of the Joker, especially in the episode "Christmas with the Joker"
I’ll have to check it out!
Well, I didn't want to say don't bother watching it in your last post, so ...
Also, there's a lot of people in denial that the guards SA'd Arthur. Is media literacy really that bad amongst younger viewers?
Go watch Rubber, the film about a rubber tire that rolls around the desert killing things with its mind
Damn. I was looking forward to it.
😅
I wish we could respond with GIFs because I would respond with that one of Boosie’s daughter. “I told you 🥷🏾🥷🏾🥷🏾.” That movie was s bad at the end everybody was like booooo🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅.
Joker 2: The Jokeling feels like a movie that was made for HBO Max but got bumped up to a theatrical release at the last minute
How the flip did you put this out so quick?
Time to cleanse your palate with Megalopolis 😂
Let’s goo I knew it was gunna be trash when they had lady Gaga play
Harley Quinn lmfaoooo
Watch the Batman movie with Heath Ledger in it😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨
🐐
Can I just be the one to say....I never got the hype around the first movie to begin with? Outside of some stellar performances from the cast, the fact of the matter is, that movie says NOTHING. If you go back and watch it and ask yourself what that movie is trying to say, the message is a very clear and unnuanced "society/capitalism bad."
It doesn't actually ask any deeper questions or examine how that plays out on different socio-economical levels.
I feel like this movie was trolling me, like I genuinely can't tell If it's supposed to be like this lol
THIS ISH MADE ME NOT WANT TO WATCH THE FIRST ONE ANYMORE 😡😡. LIKE WTF??;!
That bad huh? Damn....I loved the first one. 🤦🏾
It made me miss the first joker tbh lol
@@DerapyI hope they don't botch The Batman sequel 🤞🏾
@@Derapy I can see that to be fair 🤔. I should probably cleanse my brain and reset with the original. If it ain't broke, don't fix it... Sometimes you gotta listen to the older people 🤣
@@SladeW5218 SLADE 😊!!! It's an over exaggeration of course 😂. The first one was phenomenal
I watched a cam rip at 2x speed. That shit was poop.
