A few episodes before this we see them filming the pilot episode where Drama has a 2 page monologue "not in my town, not in ANY of my five towns" and Ed Burns looks at the cameraman and says 'He's good." And he actually meant it. In fact Eddie Burns was the one who pushed for Drama to get the role.
Everyone loves Ari of course, but Johnny has always represented the core of the show to me. The marker of modern masculinity. Constantly in search of approval, buffeted between desperation on one side and cockiness on the other. He's humiliated over and over again. His idiotic overcompensation was always played for perfect laughs by Kevin Dillon. The dude just loses every day of his life and it's fucking hilarious. But this moment, he gets on his knees and thanks god for the one moment we see him not only win something, but get praised by all his friends. It elevates Johnny's win above just the immediate audition and pilot situation - it's about the possibility of rising above whatever shit situation you find yourself in at the moment. The music choice in this and the timing of it is so perfect that it makes that roar of "victory" that much deeper.
People shrug this show off as Sex and the City for men but it's much deeper and the Hollywood stuff is just a backdrop to the themes of brotherhood and friendship and love.
You can’t help but root for Drama. This scene and the movie ending were both epic and tear jerking moments. There’s a bit of Johnny Drama in all of us, we all just want that little win every now and then.
That primal yell when you finally get a W and you're just yelling in the face of all the L's and hard work you have done to get there. Best scene in the series.
Watched this show super late. Just finished and Johnny Drama was my favorite character. 0:54 I love how even with how bad he’s feeling he can’t stand the idea of someone else cooking for his baby bro! This scene was my favorite of the whole show
funny how the sopranos episode that aired the same night also had tony going to vegas and then to the grand canyon with a great scene of him looking our just like drama
When I first watched this when it aired in high school I prayed when the music hit we’d get a victory but never would I have thought it would exceed expectations
This will forever be the most memorable DRAMA scene. Well this and when he was on THE VIEW and said TWEET to his ex-girlfriend. Whoopi was looking like What? LOL
People who loved this show pretty much agreed on the archetypes: we understandably envied Vince. We respected E. We tolerated Turtle. But we loved Johnny Drama. VICTORY!!!!!!!!!
Inspired by this, I drove from Boston all the way to Philly over night. Started my drive at like 8-9 PM at night, and arrived there at 2 AM. Parked my car literally in front of those Rocky steps where the Rocky statue is, and just slept there in my car from 2 AM till 10ish. Had a bmw convertible back then, so I’m thankful no one stabbed me or something while I was sleeping. Also had to put all my belongings in the trunk in case someone wanted to steal something. Anyhow, it was amongst the craziest and most spontaneous things I’ve done, and it was thanks to Drama. This scene rocks.
I’m not from Philly so i don’t know the name of the parking lot/area, but I’m sure as hell there was a big parking lot on the right side, right across from the museum, and there were hundreds of parked cars.
Not gonna lie, i loved this show already but this moment literally brought tears to my eyes. Entourage is to this day one of my top 3 all time favorite shows along with South Park and Game of thrones with breakimg bad and sopranos roundimg out the 5
I came back to the clip because I needed a 54 on my final to pass my finance class. The highest grade I’ve gotten on an exam in the class was a 46, took the exam and got a 59, wow I’m on cloud 9 my fingers are just typing and I couldn’t be more hyped to get a D in a class. VICTORY
This was my feeling when i got a fulltime deal at my current company earlier this year… Following six months of training, before that, two months of vetting by the recruitment team. By the time i started, i was out eight months after the previous firm fng fired me. No shame, because this new company paid me better
I like that they played “when the Music’s over” by the Doors. Putting the the thought that his career is over. Also Ironic they played it since he played John Densmore in the 1991 Doors movie.
So Johnny Drama is sleeping in the car in the desert, while the Doors music is playing. With John Densomre on drums... played by Kevin Dillon aka Johnny Drama in the movie the Doors..... Whoah mind blown🤯❤️😍
@@Orangeflava omg yes. It sucks they moved it back from March but maybe a.good sign because I hear whispers of oscar contender? Either way it will be fuuuuuhking awesome to be back in the Soprano universe just like it is for BrBa when watching Better Call Saul (which is amazing) and El Camino
I’ve lost count how many times I’ve watched this series from start to finish. I love this scene. The music goes perfectly with the “victory” . Proper iconic scene.
This was my happiest moment while still watching this show.
Yeah it was epic
Fun time.
Agreed

Over ten years later and no matter how many times I’ve seen it, my hair still stands on end.

Three full seasons we watched Drama struggle just to get an iota of respect and professional acceptance. He deserved the hell out of this win.

Get ready for the win he gets at the end of the movie😂

This is a beautiful articulation of the meaning of this scene, haha. Great fuckin' scene.
This is thesis material
I feel that bro
Yes.
I will admit. I teared up at this scene.
Man me too... for me it’s the greatest scene in all the show... I just finished today 😭😭
I had dramas poster in my place for years.

This was when life made sense
This and Aris' comeback tied for the number one spot. Beautiful message in this scene, about perseverance and hard work.
This is the best example of “good things come to people who wait” drama the 🐐
I remember being so truly happy for Johnny. He is my hero.

It's that type of break the cycle and enjoy the moment type of stuff that makes life great and enjoyable.
Hahahaha considering the rocky steps are on Kelly drive and a very busy road, I highly doubt this happened. Your car would have been towed by 7am
