- 1993 interview by MTV's David Alan "Riki" Rachtman with Chris Barnes and Chuck Schuldiner at the 1993 Foundations Forum (Burbank, CA.) Some great retrospective, and some great quotes! DISCUSS, DISCUSS! The first few seconds of the interview were lost due to the age of the source video cassette, but you get the idea and the best portions I believe remain.

I'm glad Chuck wore his kitty shirt for all these interviews he did. It sent a message to anyone seeing them who believed the metal stereotypes, especially those existing with extreme genres like death metal.
Too bad Metallica had already sold out at this point when he's talking all nice about them. They were good when they were "the outcast type of band" and not trying to appeal to the mainstream.

Guys, no matter how rare and awesome this interview is don't let it fool you. MTV was shitty back then too. It would only be a year later that MTV would can the Headbanger's Ball in favor of a hard rock/grunge show called "SuperRock" Despite being a tool, Rachtman did advocate for more death metal on the show (rumor is that his being vocal about this got him fired. I'm skeptical.) Death Metal videos on the show were a very rare treat in the sea of alterna/grunge videos. Also, Chuck's shirt = WIN

@thyPotato I met Chuck in 1991 when my band opened for Death in Oakland, CA. He is to this day one of the nicest, most laid-back, least "metal" guys I have ever met. Anyway, yeah. Chuck was the best and probably the only person in the (at the time) burgeoning Death Metal scene who could wear a shirt like that and not get curb-stomped by everyone else in the scene.
