    Awesome vids mate. I have a HDJ80 (1HDT 80 series) with the A442F transmission with 450K on the clock, Its started to slip in overdrive lock up. I changed the oil and filter but did not help and since watching your vids I actually learnt that there is meant to be magnets in the sump so I suspect the solenoids will be gummed up, as no magnets were in the pan at all
    There has been no Overdrive codes flashing whilst driving. ive done the diagnostic tests through E1 & Tt terminals with the ignition on and engine off - overdrive light flashes consistently, so no current faults
    I ve been driving the car with E1 & Tt terminals connected to a volt meter to read the electronic control signals. 1st gear - 0v, 2nd gear - 2v, 3rd gear - 4v, (actually can not see 3rd gear lock up @ 5v, as per the manual) 4th gear OD- 6v and 4th gear OD in lock up- 7v
    All readings correspond true to the manual, besides the 3rd gear lock up but when it slips in 4th gear overdrive I see the voltage drop from the required 7v down to 4.8v
    Ive also tested the throttle position sensor 0v at no throttle, 8v at full throttle. Hold the throttle at full and press the brake pedal down and voltage goes to zero as it should, according to the manual
    Do you think this could be a faulty solenoid causing the voltage drop or the electrical control signal ?
    In your experience is it usually solenoids that are the issues or can be an electrical signal ?

    Cheers my Aussie friend! I was deployed, (C-130's), with some of your country brethren back in 2002-2007. The aussie I would drink with after missions would speak discernable English at the onset, but then, after a few beers, would speed up in a REAL THICK Aussie accent! LOL, I'd ask him, "Mate, are you still speaking English?? Slow down!!" Lol.....
    Hey, I have a 1989 FJ62 and have all kinds of issues with the tranny. I've messed with the throttle cable and tranny cable and have it almost right....but still having some shifting issues. When it's cold, it doesn't shift into, I think, 2nd or 3rd gear....it revs up to about 4500rpm then shifts.....as the fluid warms up, things seem to get better. I changed the trans filter but had not watched your solenoid video... 2 questions;
    #1. I didn't notice if my tranny had the solenoids, and diagrams just show a "valve body"....so do you know if the U.S. 1989 Land Cruiser tranny had these solenoids you made a video of? subpart question, and would a clogged solenoid cause my shifting issue?
    #2. I have two fill lines, cold and hot. I ran the truck for close to 2 hrs, and checked it while running and it showed low so I filled it to middle of the hot mark.....next day when cold, it shows WELL above the cold full level. Which is right? She seems to run better with more fluid, but it's confusing how to fill this beast. I appreciate your time, and sorry for the dissertation here!
    -Ray

    • @YepThatsIt
      @YepThatsIt  Год назад +1

      hi, there is no such thing as a cold level mark. in some regions cold might be sub zero and here in australia cold in middle of summer might be 30C. It is always best to check at normal operating temp. if overfull the oil expands with heat and can hit the spinning components in trans aerating it - not good in a hydraulic operation circuit and similar happens if fluid level is too low - you can suck some air as oil sloshes around. the solenoid if contaminated will cause performance issues. a leaking or worn solenoid will not throw a fault code. the tcm can only sense ranges on electrical parameters. another thing to note is as solenoids and sensors warm up, so does their internal electrical resistance and in doing so ( because you have a relatively constant voltage ) the amperage has to come down. some solenoids are linear and operate by varying amperage and metering pressure or oil flow. always start with basics and work your way up...often earth straps are bolted to paint so the contact is only through thread of bolt ( not designed to conduct electricity ) check battery is charge and strong ( low internal resistance ) and all electrical connections. add magnets to trans pan to help keep metallic debris away from sensors and solenoids and clean them on regular interval. hope that makes sense and if deserves a beer, link is in description. cheers

    • @rayatencio7381
      @rayatencio7381 Год назад

      So fill to the higher "hot" markings on the transmission dipstick?(the dipstick has two high and low markings, one set for "cold" and the other for "hot"......the cold is lower on the dipstick, hot is higher....it seems to be running a ton better with the fluid up and in between the "hot" marks)??
      And do all A440F transmissions have those 4 solenoids? I have the 1989 U.S. Land Cruiser....thanks!! @@YepThatsIt

      hi, firstly always check the basics...fluid level, battery fully charged and strong, electrical connections to/from trans good, earth strap not high resistance across it etc. generally if you don`t have fault code will mean its a mechanical problem or a solenoid could be leaking/sticky ( computer only senses when electrical parameters are outside programmed values). many solenoids fail when they warm up but show up as ok at room/low temp. thanks and cheers

    Hi from Italy and thanks for the video. We have a HDJ100 with A442F trans that when it shift down under heavy load automatically or manually from 3rd to 2nd have a moment of neutral after release 3rd gear before to engage 2nd. It's not a clutch slipping during engagement but really a moment in neutral that allow the engine to rise 300-500 rpm before to lower due 2nd gear engagement. Could it be a normal way of work of this trans or can be a problem? I'm afraid that this momentary rise of rpm it makes an abnormal stress to 2nd gear clutch. A friend told me that could be torque concerter problem, but it does this only between 3rd and 2nd and for what I read only older cars had t.c. issues. I have a spare auto trans (no idea about if it works or not) that I can swap, but you know, it isn't a 5 minutes job and if I could solve the problem without to get the trans off the car it would be better. Thanks. Regards.

      hi, any electrical issue will put into limp mode or 3rd gear. check all connections and test solenoids when warmed up as they often fail at temperature but ok at room temp. you can warm them up by placing in a plastic bag and boiling water. do not use heat gun as they can damage solenoid. as temp rises the resistances go up and in doing so, the amperage goes down. cheers
