Dude thanks for this detailed video. Did it on my Landcruiser yesterday and saved a LOT OF MONEY. The selenoids that you recommended are literally 80% cheaper than the ones Toyota wants to sell.
Thank you for sharing. I removed my transmission shifter handle. I had to put the transmission in 1st to access the screws. Now it is back together, but it won't start. Any ideas 💡 🤔....
@6th Gear Garage the leather is deteriorated on the shift knob and replacing with new. I'm thinking that I may have disconnected a wire in the process.
Hello, such a great how to video. I am working on an A442F with a 5th solenoid found on the RH side of the body valve above the filter, and there is also an square green ATF temperature sensor (Denso 08SZ) that differs from the transmission you showed. I've been researching for a while what is this 5th solenoid used for, I believe it may be either a proportional pressure line solenoid or just a shift-lock solenoid (which usually are outside of the transmission assemblies, locking the lever mechanism). If you have any clue that could point me on the right direction to find what could it be used for I would appreciate!
Great video - gives me the confidence to tackle the job. My 2000 LC just revs when trying to start in Drive. I can start in L and then shift to Drive once moving. Is this a solenoid issue or something else?
Thanks for the reply. Are you going to make more Land Cruiser vids? I hope so. I have been watching your videos for so long and in joy all your videos. Thanks and keep up the good work.
I have the same issue as you except my truck is the USDM 1994 Toyota Landcruiser, would it be the same solenoid part # ? and how do you identify the transmission A442F on my landcruiser thanks?
Yes, the JDM and US both use the same transmission & solenoids. 1993 & 1994 had the A442F transmission. If you look at the vin sticker on your 80, it should also say A442F near the bottom.
great video - I am looking at a 1993 LC now that also has an A442F solenoid issue and this video is fantastic. Can you tell what condition rating this car was listed with in the Japanese auction (scale of "R", 2--4, C-D interior...etc.)?? Also, Did you use a broker service you can mention on youtube or conduct the purchase through another contact in Japan?
I bought the 80 from someone who had it imported last year, so I was not involved in the importing process. It already had a Ohio title when I bought it. The auction grade was 3.

Hi there so good video My lc does not take off in the first gear. I need to put to L then 2nd to D. Gear does not slip. Rpm work normally. Just got transmission service done. Is that solenoid issued? Thanks
I don't know anything about a 2006, but I would check to see if there is a code for the transmission. You'll probably need to plug in to an OBD2 scanner for an 06 model. That might tell you exactly what the problem is, if it's a solenoid.
So coming out of second I’m having that problem and the overdrive flashes about 8 to 10 time and the for the second number I does It 6 times I just got this crown Vic from the auction.. I was able to drive it home under 30 for 12 miles and when I come to a complete stop I can get the car up to 60 or mor but I half to let the car decelerate to under 30 to give it more gas... please help
I can't say for sure, but it's possible because these solenoids are used in other transmissions. I'd get the toyota part #'s from a dealership and cross reference them to Cobra's to be sure.

I'm not familiar with that year, but I think a faulty solenoid would cause some kind of light on the cluster to come on, as it did with mine.
Harrison did you end up getting that fixed? My 94LC revs up in D and does the same thing, but reverse is perfect.
Any idea??

Are these solenoids the same for the A440F transmission in the FJ80s with the 3FE? Thanks for the great videos 6th Gear Garage!

The fluid film actually repelled mud if I sprayed it on before offroading.
