My 94 has less than 100,000 miles on it and runs like the day it was purchased. I have made modifications to it suggested ones by numerous sources. The thing is a tank and will run forever. The engine was designed the run 1,000,000 km without rebuild, if you’ve got any brains, you keep your floods in your filters clean and you don’t abuse it this thing will last year entire lifetime. It’s never gonna get great mileage. That’s not it was designed for it was designed to take you anywhere and get you there safely if you use your head.
Great video. Just got my self my second one. A 97 lx450 3xlocked. Doing all maintenance and cleaning now. Dirty previous owners. Will keep it for years
I have an 80 series that has been in My Family since 1994 when my Dad bought it off the Show room floor at Bell Rd. Toyota in late 1994. It had All terrain tires and a Cattle Guard on it. I still Own it.
Northern Territory number plates at 4:34 That's where Crocodile Dundee was filmed. Any Landcruiser with rear barn doors has a model designation ending in 2. ie BJ42. HJ62. HZJ82.
The 80 series especially the 40th anniversay edition is a great heavy duty tow vehicle especially once you replace the original rubber bush suspension with nolethane. I also fitted new Pedders springs and shocks. The truck was slightly above standard suspension height when finished. The original sags over time and is too soft for heavy towing. I bought my truck brand new. The 4.5 litre twin cam is a great reliable engine especially if looked after properly. Only negative is fuel consumption which is considerable under load. But I did use it to tow a 31 foot drop keel ocean going yacht!
@@CrazyforCruisermy '96 got up to 15.5 mpg! If you want the mileage to looks great, keep it as close to stock as possible, with regularly maintenance and lightly added weight. It's amazing forever vehicle to drive.
What's the chance of the "common problems" actually occuring? I kinda want to get an FJ80, but with them being slow as heck and possibly having some serious frame and suspension problems, that kinda scares me away from wanting it. Are they actually common problems? Or are they more rare?
Thats my 1993 LC at 3:57. I got Maco to paint white as the clear coat on the original dark green was a mess. It has 338k on it and runs great. Gas hog but a reliable weekend truck.
Beware of oil leaks.Common issue from crankshaft seal, usually see the crank has grooves worn.Only way to fix properly is a long block....seen it LOTS of times with these 80 series over 200,000 miles
The only thing the 80 series lacks is the availability of an aftermarket dual transfer case. If I am wrong, somebody please correct me and point to where one is at. I want one bad.
Thinking of buying a 93 Land Cruiser with 330k...they are asking $4400. ANy thoughts? The dark blue paint is worn and the leather seats up front are torn up.
@@Fulllarrylarry No I didn't. Got an '04 chevy silverado instead. Needed to pull a 24ft trailer and the chevy was just more practical. One day, practical won't be as big a factor because that JDM was sweet!
My experience: -PHH (pesky heater hose) -EGR getting clogged up with carbon. -Engine wire harness melting right next to the egr - Heater control valves - Front main seal for the engine. -Slow power windows operation. -Head gasket Other than those issues I love my '96 landcruiser, already clocked at 416,000 miles.

How does Toyota do it? LandCruisers are so damn reliable!

you can overdrive or underdrive the seal to prevent leaks on a budget. However the seals do wear grooves in the crank so you are correct
We own a 2011 model and it's my understanding that can get a long block 25 years after we purchased our Land Cruiser.
Looks like a great design if in ok shape

80 series 4.2 diesel OR 4.5 petrol? Help me out please guys?
Turbo Diesel

4.5 very strong 4.2 good but 4.5 1fz the best ⛽️

None for the 80. Only way is to swap the engine and trans then you can fit an Atlas.
