    Capt Dave is 100% correct. But lets go a little deeper into anodes or also know as sacrificial anodes. For the viewers who don't know what an anode is, Aluminum does not rust or oxidize like steel. It gets electrolyzed. Basically put two dissimilar metals near each other in salt water and you create a battery. Dissimilar metals being aluminum and stainless steel or brass/ bronze, it creates an electrical charge. This is what eats up aluminum blocks and lower units. Electricity is lazy and goes to what conducts it most easily. The anodes are more conductive than the aluminum in your block or lower unit. This is why they get eaten up first. Make sure what you bolt the anode to is as clean as you can get it within reason. Make sure your hardware is clean too. think of it as connecting wires together you want the cleanest connection you can get so electric can flow easily. Never ever paint an anode. NEVER PERIOD! Good vid Capt, Dave very accurate. Nothing wrong with cleaning and re using an anode. Most viewers know this but for the few that don't know hopefully this sheds a little light.

      TAKE IT FROM THE ''FIXER'', Dr. Gary! I've seen some of the outboards he's worked on. Looked like a alien autopsy 😆

    Anodes, whether zinc or aluminum; salt water or freshwater, and bonding is a pretty interesting study. The anodes sacrifice themselves to the galvanic action of electrolysis. The small wires that you see on the lower unit, is a bond between metal components of your lower unit, and the power head. It's the same as a completed electrical circuit.

    Great video. Good info. I’ve always used a wire wheel to clean up my zincs. Probably wearing them out faster that a chemical solution.

    Thanks for all of your great informative videos. I have just purchased a boat with a 2015 250hp suzuki that looks like new and I can't wait to get into some maintenance work on it this winter. I have a question, I have the low water pickup and one of the screens is broken and I can't find a part number for it anywhere. A video on any tricks to reinstalling the Tupperware would probably bring in big numbers.

      @johnn9363 23 дня назад

      @CaptDavesSportfishing that only shows the main pickup, I have two water pickups, the main one and the low one at the front point of the lower unit. Nobody shows the part number for the front/lowest one. I know you mentioned in a video you have the low water pickup, I need that one.

    Good afternoon, I'm a follower of yours. I have a 2006 Suzuki 250. It's getting hot and the alarm sounds on the console. I could have changed all the filters. I put new spark plugs. The thermostats. The oil is fine and the impeller is new.

    • @orowock1
      @orowock1 2 года назад +1

      ok my friend, make sure the water pump cup and wear plate are not scored. Suzuki water pumps are very "particular" make sure pickup screens are clean and unobstructed. If it overheats on a flushette or "rabbit ears" run it in a bucket or while the boat is actually in the water. sometimes changing the impeller alone is not enough. These are just some very basic things to check. Capt Dave values and appreciates all his viewers who comment and I'll help you if I can. He's helped me many times !!

    Have you had any corrosion problems with your aluminum boat? I’m sure you probably have sacrificial anodes attached but I’m curious about the long term effects of saltwater on the aluminum hull.

    Correct the service manual is not always right. I followed my mercury service manual and my 2015 is still corroding away😭 Some people call the chaps the lower cowling.

    I have a Suzuki DF175 and am about to do my first 100 hour service. I’m going to change my anodes. I am worried

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing
      @CaptDavesSportfishing  3 года назад +1

      Dont be, just watch all my videos about changing them at my channels playlist for my boat. Cleaned the ones in the block today, with rydlyme, after changing my oil, after a 1/2 day charter. I show you how. At 100 hrs Id clean them not replace them. No need. Again I use rydlyme.

    Hi Capt Dave, Have you ever dealt with a Suzuki outboard making oil? I have a 2018 200df with 80 hours that has been making oil for most of those 80 hours. It's been to the dealer once and they changed the IAC valve but I don't think they really want to deal with it. Just curious if you ever dealt with an issue like that.

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing
      @CaptDavesSportfishing  3 года назад

      no, I have not. I'll ask my channel's resident zuki mechanic ''Orowock'' to respond. I think it can stem from not running the ''absolute piss outa the motor.'' Seems every mechanic I've talked too says, ''these motors (V6) wanna run and run fast, that's what they are designed to do.

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing
      @CaptDavesSportfishing  3 года назад

      Orowock said; injector stuck open could do that. Also a faulty lift pump could do that as well. Pull spark plugs / check plugs or possibly one plug for being wet with gasoline. or remove injectors and send them to a place that rebuilds and checks them. The place we send them to gives a really nice printed performance read out. As for lift pump/low pressure fuel pump, look up values or necessary pressure out put, attach fuel pressure gauge check for irregular readings. As for being to the dealer only one time, Its still under warranty!!!!! They have to deal with it!!! That warranty is built into the purchase price of that motor he paid for it. Go to the dealer, have it documented

      @631fishmafia7 3 года назад

      The low pressure fuel pump was replaced. I will keep at them to fix this issue. Thanks
