  • In this video you will see how to change a spark plug on a Suzuki 150 marine outboard motor. The difficulties of the task will be talked about and a work around will be demonstrated.
    Spark plug Replacement Procedure.
    Tools need
    1.Ratchet
    2. 5/16 head
    3. spark plug head
    4. Long extension
The first step is removing the hood. Step 2 pop up and off the plastic cover over the aft spark plug. Then place it upside down to be used to store screws. Proceed to take the first screw off the the spark plug sensor with 5/16th head. Next pull up and remove the sensor plug to get at the spark plug. Use the spark plug head on the ratchet to remove the old spark plug. Now with the tips of your finger place the new spark plug in the bottom of the slot gently to as to not damage it. To screw the new spark plug in lightly place the ratchet on the top of the plug and turn. ( if ratchet heads disconnect tighten from a half connection.) Continue to turn until hand tight then turn ¼ turn with the ratchet. The sensor for the spark plug can then be reinserted. After it is back in the hole re-secure it with the 5/16 ratchet.
Repeat for every remaining spark plug.
Average time to complete this task per engine is 30 minutes. There are 4 spark plugs total on a engine.

Just tape your socket to the extension and it will not fall off when screwing in the spark plug. Thanks for sharing the video 👍

Excellent video...just what I needed to change plugs in my 2006 150 hp Suzuki 4-stroke / 4-cylinder. From the internal cover to dealing with a socket stuck within the socket this video was invaluable. THANK YOU!

That “sensor” is the coil pack, you can also tape the socket to the extension to keep your issues from happening. Thanks for the video

Good idea about the tape. If you haven't used tape and the extension comes loose from the socket try putting a piece of nitrile glove over the end of the extension and plugging it back into the socket. Used the glove trick many times to hold socket head screws to an allen wrench.

You can get a spark plug wrench attached to an a extender and never have to worry about it again

Tilt the outboard in a vertical position instead of horizontal where gravity takes over

Plug you took out was fine, as far as I could tell. Just needed a light clean. You didn’t set the spark gap, unless you’d done that before but looked like to just put ne plug straigh in.

Actually i did set the gap before hand yet i did forget to mention it in the video. Thank you for pointing out that.

Those are not Sensors, they’re Coils.

Thank you for pointing out my untrained ignorance. I am happy the people who watch and then see your comment will be educated as well, if they dont know and need to know in their situation.

America is a grand place. Sometimes a volley ball cut in the shape of a gasket will do yet also getting the gasket from the store does too. Life and all its spices are allowed here. Maybe the subtext is muddled.
